This is a hard post for me to write, as Prost has always been a favorite spot for me downtown. I attended a local rally at the Capitol last night on behalf of a non-profit that removes children from the sex trafficking trade globally. Six of us decided to have a beer and a bite to eat after the event. They wanted Eureka, I convinced everyone to go to Prost. I left a little early to secure a table. Obviously, this is during Covid-19 and a city ordinance requiring everyone to wear a mask. This ordinance excludes those with medical conditions that do not allow for this. I am exempt due to a medical condition. When I arrived on the patio the employee that was outside walked up to me and told me I needed a mask. I told him I am medically exempt. That's all you're required to give, according to the Mayor's office. When I got near the front door (mind you, his volume is elevated) he tells me that they're at capacity inside and that I can sit at the last table on the patio. Which is appropriate and I accepted this. As I turned to tell him there six of us, he walked away. I can only assume he's upset that I was not wearing a mask. I messaged those that were on their way and suggested we go with their original request of Eureka. I received confirmation that this was OK and told them I'd meet them there. I went into the bar to let them know that I would not need the table. As I was walking in, the employee behind the bar immediately walked towards me and at a level that would appear like screaming, told me I could not be in the bar without a mask on. Patrons of the bar were now watching this, as I explained to the guy behind the bar that I am medically exempt. His response was, whatever and he turned back to the cash register. I'd like to point out that they are in fact, in violation of the Mayor's ordinance with their treatment of me. I am not required to disclose my medical condition, but I will. Before you think I'm soft, I'll tell you that I'm a Marine veteran who found out while serving that I had a heart issue. I have a bundle branch block in my heart, which causes my heart to work harder than the average person and in fact, it takes my blood longer to pump through my heart. I was sent to Bethesda Naval hospital in MD for testing, where this was discovered. As you can imagine, this doesn't bode well for a Marine corps career when you are prone to fainting or possibly worse. I've tried to wear the mask at places like Costco and Winco, in order to comply with their rules and the Mayor's ordinance. This doesn't work for me, as it causes breathing issues and I feel as if I am going to pass out while wearing the mask. I asked of the Mayor's office the guidelines around medical conditions and was told I was exempt. I made Prost aware of this last night and I was dealt with in a way that drew the attention of customers and this caused me embarrassment. Having the employee scream at me caused all eyes to be on me. I remember two guys at the table nearest the door laughing at me as I walked out. This was due to the behavior of the employee behind the bar. If you are a US Veteran, I would consider other establishments to patronize with your money in that area. Prost has been a favorite establishment of mine for years, in fact, I'm on card #5 (having only learned about the cards two years ago) and I was really looking forward to having a German brew last night. Prost let me down. The owner's response to me via social media did not go over well either, as it appeared to defend the behavior of the bar as a whole in relation to the Mayor's ordinance. The owner of the bar was unaware of medical exemptions. My suggestion to customers, go where you'll be respected and not verbally abused as I was last night. read more

Prost! does a body good! What a great pub! If you want energy, excitement, good beer and good food, you can't really go wrong with a visit to this foreign land. You don't even have to hop on a plane! Prost! is a gathering place for happy people looking for a fun experience. Several beers will make your tummy smile. I am a huge fan of Schneider Meine Hopfenweisse and the Maisel's Dunkel Weisse and it tends to be my go-to. Not only is their "beir" superb but their bites are equally as mesmerizing. I get pulled towards the salads and the two I have tried, keep me coming back for more. The Gurken Salat which is a traditional German cucumber salad tossed in a creamy, fresh dill and green onion dressing is plain and simple yet refreshing on a warmer day. The other salad that has my taste buds cuffed is their Rüben Salat which is marinated beets, blue cheese, red onion, and walnuts served over mixed greens with balsamic vinaigrette. This salad will surely make you a comeback for more and they both are pretty healthy. The service is always fun and fast here but not being able to taste the beer prior to getting a huge mug full makes this a 4 star for me. read more

My husband and I frequent Prost because we love the beer and the cozy space. We have been working on completing our first punch card, which is a fun challenge with an awesome reward at the end! It's fun when our friends or sons join us for a round or two and some pretzels. One complaint though, is the exceedingly loud music. When I am at a rock concert, I expect to have to yell to be heard, but not at a pub. If you look around you will notice everyone is literally yelling at each other, which makes conversation additionally difficult. It's my one complaint of this otherwise super enjoyable pub. read more

Wow! Who would have "thunk" a place like this exists in Boise--but WOW!!!!!! This place is amazing. The service, the food and of course... the beer! Super delicious all the way around. Staff could not have been nicer and more helpful. I'd recommend this place for anyone who truly appreciates a good beer. Their pretzel is out of this world and their pretzel sandwich is epic! Beer, music, food... how can you go wrong on this 8th street gem? The vibe and the ambiance of this place is super cool and super down to earth. No pretentious BS here; it's all about the beer! And if you can appreciate the German Purity Laws of how beer is made and ultimately how it tastes, then you found your new watering hole! Don't be a stranger and come often. The location is absolutely perfect! The additional outdoor seating was a great call and as soon as it warms up, we will be back. The beer and the Grapefruit Cider were great and the food, considering they don't have a real kitchen, was pretty good, the pretzel was the best. Great german food and beer! Service was good and everyone was friendly. We had the bratwurst with sauekraut, potato salad, and a pretzel. Everything was seriously delicious. The chef brought us goat cheese to go with the brat and sauerkraut - it had apparently been a hit earlier in the day or the previous day, so he highly reccomended it. The pretzel was perfection, very warm and filling! My favorite was the potato salad - it was excellent! I love german style potato salad, and this was probably a favorite. It was served warm and had a bit of bacon in it I think - I could have had two more bowls of it! It looks like they had a decent sized patio outside that would be great for it was warmer. They also have a really awesome looking punch card system - though you definitely have to be a local to get some of the perks! read more

I was so excited to see Prost! move into Boise and I'm even more ecstatic that it has stuck around! Their selection of German beer is awesome. I love Hefs and Pilsners and enjoy every single one that Prost! has on tap. My favorite is the Weihenstephaner Vitus...it has a slight banana aftertaste which works amazing with the yeasty beer. I love the beer club that you can join at Prost! You can work your way up to your own beer stein, or eventually your own stool! If that doesn't scream Cheers, I don't know what does. I have had the pretzel, gurkensalat (cucumber salad), Brotzeit Teller (cheese and meat plate), and Wurst Sampler. All are excellent! They did a great job laying this place out. It feels quite German in that they have huge tables and you share with other patrons regardless if they are in your party or not. That is a VERY German thing to do. Gutes essen und gutes bier. Prost was something of a lucky find. Not only do they serve amazing food and beer, but the name itself has a special place in mine and my best friend's heart. Prost means Cheers in German, which happens to be the name of the show we just religiously watched, and loved. The inside of the restaurant is small, but they also house a lot of seats outside as well. I ordered the Bratwurst sandwich, which came with gherkin, and a side of German potato salad. The sandwich was out of this world. The sausage was huge, the homemade mustard and ketchup tasted unbelievable, and the mound of sauerkraut was the cherry on top. Everything tasted simply incredible. The sandwich came with a small side salad, with a dressing that tasted like tzatziki sauce. The German potato salad was not overly mushy, and it actually tasted like potatoes. I ordered the Warsteiner Oktoberfest bier, which had beautiful color, and tasted great; however, it did have a big head on it. It went perfectly with my sandwich. What I also love about the bier is that they serve them in glasses with the bier names on them. The service was friendly, but not very attentive. Our waitress came by once when we weren't ready to order, and when we were ready she was nowhere to be seen for over five minutes. In a place this small, I would expect that time to be way less. If you want to indulge in fun, full bodied, robust beers, Prost! is the place for you. In addition to their regular list of biers, they also have some pretty tasty specials. I ordered the Andechs Doppelbock (dark roasted malt, notes of cocoa with a dried fruit aroma). I don't know about the aroma, but it was surprising light and easy on the palate for a dark beer. I enjoyed it very much but one was plenty for me. The menu leans toward more traditional, heavy pub food, so I ordered the Ruben Salat (marinated beet salad) and I forgot to order the dressing on the side, but it was dressed perfectly anyway. My friends and I also ordered the cabbage rolls special. We were expecting something more like a stuffed cabbage roll, but these came as ground beef and cabbage encased in bread rolls. It's a good thing we split the order, but even so, I ended up breaking it open and eating the center. It was just had too much bread and I thought it overwhelmed the taste of the filling. The atmosphere is open, loud, and boisterous so not a place for a quite conversation. Our service was great and I will definitely be back again. read more

Went to meet some friends there. I use to go There a lot when I lived in the area. In fact it was one Of my favorite places. We walked in and went to sit at the table are friends were at, the bartender immediately came up and said we had to have our masks on and when we sat we could take them off. I literally was climbing on my seat. My husband who is a veteran and honestly can not wear a mask said I don't have one I have a medical reason and can show you my doctors note, was immediately kicked out. We had all put our masks on by this time but my husband who now was out side. I tied to talk to the person calmly with my mask on and said ok well do you have a mask he can put on to sit down or can he use mine since I'm sitting and the waitress told me to walk my ass to a store and buy hiM one they don't have them. We had our masks off because we had been sitting enjoying company and cocktails just up from there and forgot and walked to meet our friends. No other place was rude or even said a word about him not wearing a mask. We left and went across the street and sat and had drinks where we were welcomed and had a great time and spent a lot of money. We will never go back Or support them again. A very good friend of mine talked this place waaaay up and it still lived up to my expectations! The staff was friendly, fun, and knowledgable. The beer was absolutely incredible. The food is S'good. The location is in the heart of Downtown Boise! You like beer, German food... nice people?! Then come on by! Guten Tag! Between my buddy and I we tried a lot of beer, I went for the lighter more refreshing beers but I got to try some really interesting concoctions. I had a dark beer so toasty it literally tasted like toast. If you're out for the flavors of the world like I am, you'll absolutely love this spot. Be adventurous and ask questions! If you're just out to have a tasty drink, you won't be the only new patron adding this lovely location to their new after work weekly destination. They also serve some delicious meals. The pretzel and cheese is oh-so good. I almost asked for a shot of the cheese... Having to choose between dipping into the hardy zesty mustard and the tangy rich cheese was almost cruel. But we made it through unscathed! The prices here are very inviting. Although some top quality beer selections can be a bit of a hefty fee, the food feels like a steal. And if you're not happy with the choices of snacks; their location makes it very easy to close out and find another destination that fits your cravings. I'd say if this place has a flaw, it's just the size of the venue. A large crowd of college kids came in while I was sitting at the bar, and the noise level was unbearable. But as you can tell from my rating... I don't think this place is flawed. While it may be small, every other attribute makes up for it and then some. They even have punch-cards for regulars. If you're a food lover, do yourself a favor and at least stop by here once. read more

We go to Prost! at least once a month. Good food and great German beer. We really like the atmosphere and friendly service. It's 'communal seating' and the place can get crowded but we have always felt comfortable there and they have a great selection of beer on tap. We really enjoy Pilsner and Kolsch style beers and they are always have a few on tap. If in Boise stop by Prost! You won't be disappointed! read more

The roast beef havarti sandwich is fresh and oh so good, with a nod to local in the Acme bread. The beets are exactly as they should be in any small German eatery. It's nice to have an authentic German-style pub in downtown Boise. Prost! gets it right in that respect. I like the authentic glasses, decor, beer selection, and outdoor seating. My main gripe is with the food and the customer service. The food is just plainly not good. Bier 30 does German fare as well and it is 100 times better than Prost. As to customer service, I had one particularly bad experience recently. I went in and my companion wanted a small taste of an unusual beer that was on tap, before ordering a whole stein of it. The bartender initially said they don't do tastes. She then said that if he didn't like it, she would be glad to pour out the glass and get him another beer. Huh? That doesn't make any damn sense. She finally decided on giving him a taste, but had an attitude about it. What's up with that? It wasn't Chimay Blue Label or something exorbitantly expensive. A little while later I guess we weren't drinking our beers fast enough because the other bartender brought us our tab when we declined another round when we were about half way through our second round. Indeed we might have ordered another beer, just weren't ready yet. If you don't want to make more money off us, we're fine with that. We moved on to a better location after that. read more

It truly bothers me that I'm leaving a one star review, but something needs to change. My wife and I love this spot, and have frequented this bar for a few years. It's the only place in the area to get authentic German beer on tap. The food and beer is outstanding. That being said things have changed since Covid hit. The staff there have become hostile and aggressive in a very unnecessary way. Here is just one specific example... Myself and a buddy were downtown and I was excited to share my favorite German spot with him. We left our masks in the car by mistake so we didn't have them. We thought about going back and then coming in, but we saw an open outdoor table that was well away from everyone. Keep in mind they were not busy, and the outside was mostly empty. We decided to at least ask and see if we could sit down. We walked up to the front, and at this point we're about 3 feet from the table. One big step and I could've sat down. A female waitress came up and said in slightly aggressive tone "You can't come in without masks on". I politely said "Sorry were not trying to come in, we forgot our masks and we're hoping to just sit down at this outdoor table". She became clearly pissed off and said "No you need to leave you can't sit there or anywhere". I tried to reason with her one last time and she interrupted me and said "No not gonna happen, Bye" and walked away. Totally unnecessary attitude and treatment of customers. I didn't attempt to argue or make it a big deal and we just left. It's not that hard to be nice and talk with your customers. I personally think that they could've accommodated us, but if they choose to deny us service then at least be kind about it. It also felt really comical being told to leave. The table was literally 3 feet away and I'm 6'4", so we would've put the masks on for maybe 1 second to sit down and then take them off. It's just silly and being treated like that in that situation was ridiculous. Overall this is a common theme here with some of these Yelp reviews and it really needs to be addressed. Two years ago this bar had 5 star reviews across the board. Their staff is the problem not the food or drinks. I understand this has been a tough year, but there's absolutely no reason for them to treat people with such hostility. I recommend the ownership of Prost find new staff, and ensure that they understand the importance of customer service and common decency. Also, the staff tends to take very political stances which is totally unnecessary and unprofessional. It's so simple, just be kind and treat your customers with respect. I hope Prost catches on and fixes this issue. We would love to return at some point. read more

One of my FAVORITE places for a beer in Boise! Having visited Germany only a year ago, I appreciate the authenticity Prost! brings and the sense of nostalgia it creates. Great selection of flavorful beers! I've only been for drinks but look forward to trying some of their cuisine in the future. Since I'm not a big fan of IPAs or super hoppy beers, I find myself enjoying a wide variety of the beer selections at Prost!. While they do have hoppier drinks on tap (for those who love a great IPA!), it's not the focus like a lot of breweries around the area. Located on 8th street right in one of the main hubs of downtown. Although this place can get pretty busy, seems like there's always a spot to sit even if you have to share tables. Overall, check this place out next time you are craving a quality beer! read more

Cool German bar. Came on a Friday night and it was rockin. They were playing rock music and the crowd was lively. They have a great beer selection. If you're brave, they also have the das boot. As a german visiting Boise I can certify that the food is authentic and as tasty as it is at home. The currysauce for the Currywurst is awesome and the Rippchen mit Kraut were really good. Nice juicy meat and the Sauerkraut was not too sour. Only two things I missed: a) the mashed potatoes that usually go with the Rippchen mit Kraut in the area around Frankfurt b) Apfelwein, which is the "national drink" of the area around Frankfurt. Basically it is apple cider and there is apple cider on the menu, but none from Germany as far as I understood. Oh, a little thing: Normally only yellow mustard is served with Rippchen mit Kraut. But it also tastes awesome with the sweet german mustard. read more
