Their beer selection is incredible, but what else can you expect from a German bar located in Chicago's very own Lincoln Park? I wouldn't recommend anything deep fried here unless you were planning on going straight to bed after your visit. Lincoln Park's version of a German Beer Hall. If you're looking for old world charm, probably not your place. But I happen to love it here- good beer and the best schnitzel I've ever had! I find schnitzel to be a little dry/bland sometimes, but the jäger schnitzel here has a good sauce on it. If you order a pretzel, don't forget to add their cheese sauce. read more

Went to Prost last night and had a blast with some old friends to catch up! It was very busy, but the staff handled it very well. The food was amazing and our waitress was very pleasant & fast with attending our table even though she was swamped. The manager Von also came up to our table to make sure we were being well taken care of. To say the least, we were very pleased with our experience at Prost and for it being our first time there. I go to Prost on a fairly regular basis. The food is pretty good, particularly the brat boards and giant pretzels. The beers are decent and available in a few sizes up to the giant das boot, which is fun. The service is a bit hit or miss...we've had some very rude waitresses before, but then the waiter we had this past Friday was great. I'm mostly here for the beer anyway, but one warning I would give is to come in person and not order food from here via Grubhub or any similar service, because there is a slim chance that it will be correct/complete. read more

I checked out this German restaurant last weekend with some friends visiting Chicago. There was ample seating for large groups at 6:30pm on a Saturday and the atmosphere was casual and a bit loud. The pretzels are huge and absolutely incredible. The entrees were all good and nice portion sizes. There is a collection of board games that groups can borrow/play while at the restaurant too. oooooh i love prost! 10 stars for their unbelievably insanely amazing GIANT pretzel...this thing is the size of an xl pizza, and is the best pretzel I've ever had. Ever. No chunks of salt or stale parts, they are basically coated in a light bath of salt & are warm and fresh. Not to mention they come with extra spicy dijon & melty beer cheddar dipping sauces. The servers/bartenders are awesome & really friendly; it gets a little Depaul shit show later on weekends, but they have a crazy amt of german beers (maybe a little pricey, but, it's fun to go and do the real german bar thing) Prost is a great re-addition to the neighborhood & you will kick yourself if you don't get the pretzel. One of my most memorable experiences was attending Oktoberfest in Munich, so I was excited to try out Prost as a little reminder of trips past. The space is nice, an upscale version of the German tents with the servers decked out in German attire. I wasn't a huge fan of the beers, I had tasted three different kinds and was only mildly pleased with the taste. The menu was filled with sausages and schnitzels, but the main event was the giant pretzel. My friend had ordered this, and I wasn't expecting much, but it turned out to be the highlight of the place. With it's perfectly cooked crusty exterior, soft, buttery interior and a sprinkling of salt, it was a match made in beer heaven. Plus it's huge. You'll get two dipping sauces and it's more than enough to share for four people. Service was great, so the two star rating really applies to the beer, and if I'm going to a beer hall, that has to be good. read more

They got two stars for honoring our reservation and kicking people out of our table. However the service was slow...they had to clarify our beer orders twice. Then we waited for 15 minutes and she was shouting out the beers she was bringing down the table. It was hard to hear in a crowded bar so we did our best to yell down what we had but she was clearly agitated and gave us numerous dirty looks. We asked about getting a pretzel which they said they were out of. But then we saw two pretzels come out of the kitchen after that. Kind of frustrating bc we were expecting a fun german experience and ended up hearing wiz Khalifa. Next time ill go somewhere more authentic in October. read more

If you have never been to Germany, specifically Munich - then you must go here. Reminded me of the original Beer Houses of Munich and Augsburg. Totally awesome. We just at here tonight and I couldn't wait to write a review. The place is huge and was light tonight given the holiday weekend. Our service couldn't have been more top notch. They dynamic duo (bartender and server) operating the place tonight were totally great. They kept coming over and checking on us. It was our 1st time, but definitely not our last. We ordered the full pretzel - OMG - it was just like the ones I used to have in Munich. It was so big that 6 people could have easily split it. The beer cheese with was great as well as the house Pilsner that we had with it. We ordered the Jager Chicken Schnitzel and the 2 sausage plate for dinner. Both were absolutely delicious. You could have served the food on fine china plates at the Ritz-Carlton and no one would be the wiser - the food was that good. I had the normal expectations for a pub beerhouse. But the food was seriously awewsome. The spatzel with the Schnitzel was amazingly soft and well cooked. Hats off to the amazing team in the back of the house in the kitchen. They are doing a phenomenal job. Also, the 2 sausage plate was immense. You could choose your 2 sausages and it was accompanied with at least 8 items. There is no way that 1 or 2 people can finish it in 1 sitting. We had so much food left over, that I think we are good for at least 1 to 2 more sittings. Although the food and beer was really great, the guys who were there managing and taking care of everything were really phenomenal. Just one example of their great service - I said, that I wanted the really hot spicy mustard they serve in Bavaria. The waiter said "no problem - let me see what I can do." He brought out some mustard which literally resulted in me coughing up a storm - it was that spicy. It was exactly what I had asked for; however, most places don't make it or have it, so I took a little bit more than normal, assuming that Prost wouldn't have the spicy stuff - but sure enough - it was the real thing. Went to this place last weekend, liked the beer hall feel, but we felt the decor was rather sparse. The beers were delicious (obviously), but waaay expensive. I've been to Munich before and beers were way more affordable! And it can't be a distribution issue; Ayinger is widely distributed in the states and it was one of the most expensive beers on the menu. The only thing we ate was the pretzel, and I must admit it was absolutely delicious, and probably the best deal on the whole menu ($11 for something that 4-5 people could easily snack on). Good beer and good food. The pretzel is gigantic... 2 feet wide (not kidding). We thought the waiter was joking when he showed us the size of it. Get the beer cheese dip with it, the pretzel can be a little dry without it. The schnitzel with spaetzle was very good. We also had the currywurst and weißwurst which were excellent. The food was awful, doesn't even come close to authentic German cuisine. Everyone in our party ordered something different and no one finished their meal and we didn't ask for doggy bags either. Sorry. My mother was from Europe so we grew up eating veal, schnitzel, light tasty sauces etc. No comparison! I suppose if possible, I'd give it three-and-a-half stars. I'd sum it up by saying it is good, but just a bit pricey for what you get. Went there with my special lady and had a beer and some food for dinner on a quiet Monday night. The space is nice, big, with long communal tables that are similar to what you'd actually find in a lot of places in Germany. Perhaps a touch sterile, but that's just the US for you. I ordered some of their wursts, served traditional style with red cabbage, some kraut, bread and fries (potato salad was an option, but I'm not a huge fan of German potato salad. The wursts were quite good, not entirely authentic, but well executed interpretations that I think more or less captured the gist of the types. My friend ordered the "street style" schnitzel, and again it was a decent, if not fantastic, interpretation of the German staple served with fries. I'm probably spoiled from spending a fair amount of time in Germany, but I couldn't help but compare it to some of my favorite restaurants in Munich, where you get more (and better) food for 2/3 the price, even after the premium on Euros and Munich prices. The beer selection on the menu was good, but they didn't have my first choice. The waitress did give me small samples of a couple other beers to help me pick a second choice. Beer isn't cheap either, but isn't that bad. I'd reiterate, it was good, but perhaps just a bit pricey. I'd certainly go again if I find myself in the neighborhood with a German food craving, but it'll probably be a while before I make it a destination, particularly with other German food options in town. read more

Worst bar of all time! Wow where do I begin!! We flew in from California to hang out in Chicago. Our friends recommended this place. The bartenders were complete jerks. We told them we were in Chicago celebrating our friends bachelorette party! This was their response "we could care less." I spoke to their GM and he didn't even offer to get us a free drink. He was standing around chatting to staff doing absolutely nothing. I told him we were unhappy and this was the worst service we ever had. His reply: cool. AVOID AVOID AVOID!!! We came here after seeing a show last night and it took us almost 3 hours to get our meal. This was the first time I've ever had a waitress tell me she was going to wait to take our order because of how busy the kitchen was. Funny thing is the restaurant was not even full. It also took 22 minutes to have her bring me a beer because she "completely forgot about it". Then the pork belly rueben was not served on rye because they ran out but didn't even mention it before we got our food, and the nachos I ordered were almost inedible. We stopped here for drinks and appetizers before going to a show up the street. This place has a nice ambience and a decent beer selection. In addition to drinks, however, we ordered half a soft pretzel to share (which was plenty for two of us). The pretzel and dipping sauces were ok. My only complaint was that the pretzel was dripping with grease. They could have used about 50% less butter, and the pretzel would have tasted better, would have been less messy to eat, and wouldn't have been so unhealthy and off-putting. read more

I never write negative reviews, especially for bars on weekends. But last night I came straight from the gym to Prost to meet my friends who had spent the evening at Oktoberfest on Lincoln and the service we received was despicable. For one, upon arrival two tables were free, but one had a reserved sign. I threw my backpack to the other empty table to which, what I assume was a manager, told us there was a wait list for tables. Totally acceptable, especially since it wasn't particularly full so we got up and I asked one waitress where the wait list was so we could get our names down. She admitted that it was her second day and she didn't know. So we pulled a second waitress, who did the same kind of dance and said to ask what I assume is the manager. After 15/20 minutes of this waiting without knowing we were told we could have the big reserved table but that we would have a waitress. Totally fine, we wanted food anyway. I still hadn't ordered a drink, but most of the party grabbed a drink while waiting for a table. When our waitress finally came to the table she asked us if this was our full party and those who wanted to order right away said yes, and those who had been drinking said no because there were three girls closing tabs at the bar. She immediately said she 'couldnt' serve us if we were going to the bar. I responded that we were not but she immediately walked away. She didn't return for another 10-15 minutes, obviously giving us attitude. At this point I'm hungry and grumpy so I got up to get a drink from the bar and got no recognition from the bartender. I turned around and decided right then it was time to leave. But that wasn't even the kicker! When I got back to the table our waitress, had the bouncer kick out a girl who allegedly flipped her off for being so slow (which everyone claimed was a lie). Nora, yes I asked for her name because I realized I couldn't do sh*t on a Friday night, was the worst server I have had in my entire life. It's Oktoberfest weekend Prost, I'm Austrian and all I wanted was a kasekrainer & some pretzel. I ended up leaving and apparently the manager attempted to resolve the issue later in the night. But there is a fine line between taking the side of your staff and straight losing your bar a significant chunk of change from a party of 12-15 on Oktoberfest weekend. read more
