What a fun hidden gem in the downtown area. This spot was recently renovated and has had a facelift for about three years. They had happy hour specials on a Sunday which was a nice touch. I also appreciate how they have live music free daily. This bar features a wide array including a bad ass beer tap wall. The decor is super nice and creates a great vibe. Also - the AC in here is popping! Check out their outdoor garden.

Ended up celebrating new years 2026 here. They have a large patio and a good selection of beers and cocktails. They'll let have an outdoor area by the river walk and also have live musicians almost nightly it felt like. Overall a good spot to stop in for a drink and some good bratwurst

I hadn't done the river walk in many years and it was fun to be back again doing the touristy stuff. We stopped at Prost right along the walk for a nice Bavarian-style lunch. I had a brat platter with a beer that was really good. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal as did our dog who had scrambled eggs. We sat outside of this almost sprawling venue; as they seem to have a lot of space with both indoor and outdoor bars and seating. The weather was warm and sunny but the exterior layout along the water made it more pleasant. I want to go back to check out Alchemy which is their cocktail bar that had all sorts of interesting offerings on the menu. Service was great, everyone loved our dog and wanted to meet him. That is always a plus for us, even if he doesn't want to meet them. HAHA.

Love the vibes. The inside decor is very girly and unexpected for a German restaurant/bar but it's very cute. We sat outside to enjoy the live music. Outside seating also comes at the risk of some bugs and birds but also a view of the river walk and passing barges. Food was excellent, drinks overpriced but that's expected on the river walk.

We went here during one of the coldest weeks in San Antonio. Walked in from the river walk, not busy but also unsure where to sit. After a couple of minutes we were told to grab a seat anywhere. Food was good, service was super friendly. I would recommend this place, especially when it's warmer and you can sit outside and enjoy the scenery, music and the river walk.

Closed. Now is Buffalo Blue. Still have the pretzel. And the 1L beer mugs... new menu looks good but gone is the German menu.

Cherry Bath Bomb, off of the Alchemy menu!

Came here several nights in a row while I was in town for business. Absolutely loved the outside swings and patio. Such a great vibe. We took advantage of the "secret" drink menu and I think our group must have tried almost all of them over our week long trip. They were delicious and creative and served with flair! Can't wait to come back and maybe actually try some food next time!

Nestled yards away from the famous riverwalk is a wonderful little German bar that warrants attention. I love themed bars especially those from far away lands. After a good long walk by the "river" I was parched and among all the other possible options, I settled in on Prost Haus. The outside is unassuming enough, fitting in nicely with the San Antonio vibe of white slate stone, trees providing some shade here and there, live music and a few places to sit. However, walking in the vibe switches to more foreign influenced. There some artificial plants hanging to create an ambiance of nature. What really catches the eye are all the nice touches of German culture, WW1 helmets in a hollowed-out keg, steins here and there, grey stucko walls that resemble the movie tavern from Inglorious Bastards, replica crowns and so on. My eyes were drawn to the behind the bar area as it really felt authentic. Kegs protrude from the wall; a nineteenth turn of the century tap system and the German nation bird the Golden Eagle. Yes, there are TVs mounted around however it's done tastefully to not interfere with the attention to details. Generally, I do attempt to grab some grub however I had already eaten for the night so I can't speak on the food however the fellow bar patrons assured me what they had was really good. Speaking of bar flies, I'm from Charleston SC and the Texas Longhorns were playing. While wanting to subtlety jab the "hook-em" fan I mentioned how Clemson had won two titles in the last decade and "has UT ever won anything?" For the record I know they beat USC is one of the greatest title games but I wanted to have fun with their fans. From there I made a friend for the night. The point is, there customers here are very friendly and able to hold a conversation. My cocktail and my girlfriends drink were very good. Along with our drinks there are many adult beverage options for any number of tastes such as wine, liquor or beer. The staff is very friendly and quick to fill the order with a smile and small talk. Overall, this is a great place to drop in and unwind for the night, get some grub or watch whatever sporting events you may enjoy. The place is safe and outback gets roaring later at night as I walked by when I left. It's a very fun atmosphere and offers everyone a chance to unwind and enjoy living.

Our food was delicious and the server attentive. Nice atmosphere. The only thing was the live music was too loud, but other than that, good place to have dinner!

A wonderful dining experience in a pleasant location directly on the Riverwalk. The seating area is comfortable and the waitstaff friendly. Games are available to play at the tables. My chicken schnitzel sandwich tasted delicious. I will dine here again when at the Riverwalk.

Stopped in at Prost after a busy morning on the riverwalk and it was just what we needed - a place with some good, simple food, plenty of shade and misters on a hot San Antonio summer day. Prost is prominently situated on the riverwalk, so its an easy find just at the doorstep of La Villita. As its name suggests, it is a German-style biergarten. Our little one loves jumbo pretzels, so ordering the Bavarian Pretzel for him was a simple decision. For the two of us, we ordered we split a sausage paddle that had Bratwurst and Knockwurst. All the food was great and love the concept of the paddles that provide some of your favorite biergarten-type foods with also some customization. Like so many places on the riverwalk, we had a fine time at Prost, Texas heat notwithstanding and plan to make this a regular stop during our Riverwalk jaunts.

I was attending a work conference in San Antonio. My colleagues and I attended two vendor functions, both held at Prost, before heading to dinner at Boudro's. Prost is a Bavarian restaurant and bar housed in a mid-19th century rock building located on the Riverwalk between La Villita and the Hilton Palacio del Rio. The interior architecture is a charming throwback to bars past. Prost is also host to an amazing outdoor terrace patio bar overlooking the Riverwalk. The patio features a nightly lineup of local bands and DJs and giant Texas-sized Jenga blocks and other games. If that wasn't enough fun, the Prost also houses the Alchemy Lounge, a speakeasy-style space featuring innovative cocktails. Function guests were treated to a catered variety of Prost starters and Happy Hour specials, including Prost Wings, Deviled Eggs, Prost Chili Cheese Fries, Reuben Egg Rolls, Fried Pickles, Mozzarella Sticks, Fried Mushrooms, and Onion Rings. We also ordered a round (or two) of margaritas. The beverages were solid, but definitely on the strong side. Service was on the slow side; however, there were two large vendor functions and other patrons, so the bar was understandably slammed. I look forward to visiting on a less busy evening in San Antonio to fully soak up the patio vibes.

It seems like reservations are encouraged. At every visit, the servers greeted me with water and asked for my dietary preferences. You can tell that the servers all work together as I had other servers stop by to pack up my food and refill my water. I do love how they offer to pack up my leftovers and do so very nicely. 1st visit: My server was a sweetheart, very attentive, and super nice! I made reservations for 5PM on a Friday. I was one of the first to arrive, but the restaurant quickly filled up. I opted for the Mezas De Alegria, the server brought out Tirshi, Roasted Cabbage, Steamed Red Snapper, and Olive Oil Cake! All were very tasty, my favorites being the Tirshi and Steamed Red Snapped! I also ordered the Greek Wine flight, I enjoyed the Troupis wine best! Out of all of my dining experiences, this was by far my favorite! 2nd visit: My server was also attentive and kind. This time, I didn't make a reservation, I just walked in but was able to be seated at 11AM on a Sunday. I opted the for Turkish Brunch and the Mint Limonada, and they were able to accommodate my dietary preference! Everything was good once again, my favorites were the Grilled Olive and Tomato Salad, Fire Roasted Peppers, and Shakshuka. The Mint Limonada was too sweet for my preference, I had to water it down with some water. 3rd visit: My most recent server was very sweet and kind but wasn't as attentive. I made reservations for 5PM on Friday. She got held up by a table nearby a couple of times. I tried items from the Culinaria Restaurant Week Menu (Armenian Salad, Texas Waygu Kebabs, and Local Fruit Sorbet) Everything was soo good and flavorful. I really enjoyed the Armenian Salad. The Texas Waygu Kebabs were good, but a little chewy for my preference. They were cooked about Med-Well/Well done, though I prefer my beef to be cooked Medium, but I wasn't asked about my preference. I also wasn't given a steak knife and tried to wait for my server, but she was with another table for a while. I had to use my butter knife... The Local fruit sorbet was very refreshing and a light dessert to end my evening. Overall, great experiences, flavor-packed food! I enjoy Mediterranean food, so I'll be back to try more items off their menu!

But at my age anytime you are over ground is the best occasion. I have heard it is real fancy. And it is. Do not come in Crocs and sweatpants. This is not that restaurant. It is that restaurant where you should make reservations. It is also a place that emphasizes presentation and service. We came right when it opened and we informed the hostess of our reservations. We were seated in the bar area. Once inside I was struck by its ambience. It is sleek, dark and dare say "sexy." Our server, who was extremely attentive came to our table and took our drink orders. My partner ordered an Old Fashioned and me, a Lagunitas IPA. Whilst waiting for our drinks I looked over the room. One thing I noticed was a barrier that separated the bar area and the dining room. The Social Hour is meant, to socialize. I saw couples leaning into each other. Another group were drinking martinis with a seafood tower, almost touching the ceiling. Conversations were had. Romantic glances were exchanged. It isn't a casual place like Bubba's 33 nor Texas Roadhouse. It feels like a place best suited for a date night or an anniversary. I'm wondering how the dining room area is? The Social Hour does offer some drink and small bites specials. We ordered the kabob with pineapple, brussel sprouts, and sliders. They were all pretty great. It reminded me of the same experience as in partaking in tapas. I would remiss if I didn't relay our service here, it was excellent. Our server, Holiday(I hope I spelled it right.) treated us like we were the only patrons there. I've gone to upscale restaurants where staff looks at you up and down. Or they try to size you up. This is not that place. Which was so refreshing. If this place went above and beyond my expectations why didn't I give it four stars? In my opinion I think that a place that creates an upscale experience needs to have a few beers on tap. Even places like Wing Daddy's or Chili's offers a few beers on tap. Secondly, the bar area seating feels a bit tight. I wonder when the dinner crowd arrives would you be in the lap, of someone else's conversation? I still highly recommend this place. The Social Hour area is perfect for a date or an anniversary. The service and food were both excellent. And I've never been to a place where you are given warm hand towels. It reminded me of that scene with Adam Sandler in "The Wedding Singer" minus Billy Idol.

For 73 years, The Barn Door has been more than a great restaurant; it has been an inexorable piece of San Antonio history. Last week, The Barn Door announced on Facebook that its final day of service will be Sunday, May 11th (Mother's Day). The Barn Door has been an outstanding steakhouse in the truest sense. They've never relied on gimmicks or culinary trends--they've relied on the tried-and-true flavors that have maintained a loyal clientele for decades. I'm taking about hand-cut, primal cuts of beef grilled over real mesquite, delivering that unmistakable South Texas char. I'm referring to plump, wild-caught shrimp from the Gulf Coast, the famous yeast rolls, and tubs of homemade salad dressings. If you've been there, you know how special the overall experience has been. I've read many heartfelt comments on social media asking why such a successful institution would cease operations. Well, dear reader, I have a unique insight into why. Randy Stokes has poured his heart into the restaurant, but he merely leases the building--not the land--from the Straus family. Approximately seven months ago, Mr. Straus decided to sell the dirt beneath the "Barn" to a real estate developer. The plan? To raze this historic site and erect modern condos. It's a familiar story of urban expansion, but it doesn't make the loss any easier to swallow. But before we close the door on "The Barn" forever, a glimmer of hope looms on the horizon. Randy Stokes and his team aren't necessarily hanging up their aprons for good. According to a reliable anonymous source, the team has expressed a desire to reopen The Barn Door at a new location, with eyes set currently on the city's North Side. I hope the promise of a new location comes to fruition, but even if The Barn Door closes forever, I will cherish all the wonderful memories of dining there with my parents and grandparents over the years. I will remember the ingratiating staff, the unique ambience, and the hundreds of delicious meals I've crammed down my gullet.

It's a sketchy area to walk behind the restaurant to the Speakeasy. Anyhow, I ordered the chicken fried ribeye, jalapeño twice baked potato. Now, the potato was great. I didn't care for the ribeye and didn't eat it. The salad was right out of the bag. Iceberg, shredded carrots and cabbage with 5 bagged croutons. What happened? It wasn't like that before. My cream spinach came out late, and we weren't charged for it, which was nice. My brother in laws filet was too done. He asked for medium, and it was medium well. He ate it anyway. They used to have a 6oz ladies filet, but they don't. The server wasn't perfect, but we lived. IF I return, I'll skip the salad, get the filet and potato.

I'm glad they had room for us but, it's still safe to make reservations. We did not know they are a tapas style restaurant, but that didn't deter us. And we were pleasantly surprised at the size of their "tapas". What we ordered was enough for two people to share. Dumplings - 9/10 Gulf Shrimp & Noodles - 10/10 Blistered Green Beans - 10/10 Ramen - 9/10 Service was great. It's a casual atmosphere, but perfect for an intimate date night.

A bit messy to eat but I would get this again. Udon noodle with pork belly: noodles were kind of irregular in lengths. I really liked the sauce with it but it felt like it was missing something. Light dish. Tc double cheese burger: very strong flavors, somewhat sweet. Dense/heavy dish . Our waiter was quick and friendly. The restaurant lighting was dimmed and gave a more intimate /bar environment. I think the ac was broken here because it was very warm and they had fans going on around the room. I think this place would be good for someone who is prefers an American fusion cuisine that leans heavily on the western style dishes. The fusion elements were cute but I still left unsatisfied but still full. We did not park. We walked here right from the river walk. Not a bad place to go if you arrive in town after 9 pm.
