I had taken the river boat tour and spotted this restaurant. I eventually made my way back to it. While looking at the menu out front, I was approached by someone who works there and she told me about specials and the menu. I wanted to hang out here for dinner as it looked the better to me than all the other restaurants around, so I didn't need much convincing. I had one regular sized beer and one giant stein style beer. I was recommended a good German beer and had one IPA. I had the wings in two flavors, they were very good. Service was friendly and the waiter checked on me often, even chatted with him for a bit. Great experience here and good food/beer. Plenty of space to sit and people watch. The bill was more than fair. I highly recommend this spot out! read more

Very good established locally-owned place with a fun German-style Octoberfest vibe to it. It has kind of a jumble of seating inside but has wonderful terraced, tree-shaded seating outside (if a but unkempt) along the Riverwalk with direct stairway access to it. Excellent selection of German-style local craft brews and actual German brews. Has good quality food featuring decent German food options including sausages, schnitzels (but not with veal, so technically not really a schnitzel) and others. Their menu has a lot of non-German fare which are apparently obligatory San Antonio items presumably appealing to tourists that most places seem to include - I've been to other, different ethnically-oriented places that have same or similar items. At Prost I had a delightful local Altbier and delicious reuben sandwich (again not German - an NYC Jewish deli invention). Overall, a qualified 4-star (3.5 stars if I had that option) place for San Antonio. read more

This place has a great patio for watching the riverwalk, which is exactly why we chose to go here. The service was good once we got someone's attention. We were being served "half liters" of beer, although I doubt the glass was that much. I was disappointed that the first two beers that I chose from the menu were not available. We ordered the meat tower and a salad. The tower was decent, but not outstanding. The "hot" items were more like kinda-warm. The pretzels were drenched in oil or butter, not sure which. The live music was fantastic and I could sit here for a good while and drink and listen to the music and people watch. However be very chosen with what you order to eat. We had the jaeger schnitzel and it was gross. Not really hot when it came out. The service was extremely slow and nothing to write about. I would go back but only for drinks and live band. Visiting San Antonio for the first time and was excited to enjoy German food. The location is really good, on Riverwalk with pretty view. That's about all the positives of this place. Granted it was Saturday evening but service was slow. Menu is full of random food choices, most of them not related to German cuisine. I ordered Sausage paddle that clearly stated it come with bacon sauerkraut & potato salad. My husband decided on Schnitzel that comes with bacon sauerkraut & mashed potatoes. Our server even double checked if mashed potatoes works & my husband confirmed it. It too quite a while & food finally came out - no potato salad for me - instead i had a few spicy pickle & cauliflower pieces. My husband had fries instead of mashed potatoes. The gal that brought food out just plopped it in front of us & ran away before we got a chance to point out we had no utensils & napkins on the table. My husband had to actually go get it. I should mention that our server by that time was not available since he fell walking down the wet unsafe stairs carrying a tray with drinks, dropping it all & splashing more fluids on to already wet floor. Thank goodness he was able to hobble up the stairs - I truly hope he is doing ok. No employee came back to clean up the wet spills, broken glasses that went different directions. Unbelievable! It was already wet & slippery & now got worse but no one cared - employees just kept on slowing down a bit going up & down the stairs. No one checked on us to see if food was good or if we wanted anything else... sausage & pretzel were decent but sauercraut literally had 1 crumble of bacon in it & pickled vegetables were not tasty. My husband's schnitzel was flavorless & he did not care for the fries either. When it was time for us to pay, I mentioned the substitutions on our plates & all the lady said was that she is sorry about it & they should've notified us that they ran out of potato salad & mashed potatoes... Seriously? How do you run out of these two foods in a "German" restaurant? So a lesson to us not to ever eat in a restaurant in a touristy location. This place looks really inviting, but the food was subpar! I ordered the pork schnitzel, that advertises a hunter gravy over it. When it arrived there appeared to be no gravy at all. When I inquired, I was told that the gravy had turned out watery today and it was more like broth. All they had to do was add flour to thicken it! The bacon cabbage was awful, the pickled veggies where yuck, and the potato salad had no flavor! The sauerkraut, sausages, and pretzel were very good, and the service was great! If you want good German food, sadly this is not the place! read more

Was walking along the riverwalk and stumbled upon this quaint corner of the walk and this Prost Haus. Didn't stop, but decided to come back after I wanted more than Tex-MEX food. I chose correctly. Decided on the Jaeger Schnitzel with bacon cabbage, and mashed potatoes, and washed it down with a Hoegaarden bottled beer. It was a little early, so plenty of seating outside in the patio, where live music was playing. Open seating, so was able to to snag a high top table and listen to the music. Waiter promptly came over, mentioned how to get the menu from the QR code on the table, and allowed me to glance over the menu. Once I saw what I wanted, waiter was prompt in getting my order and get me started. The Schnitzel was delicious, as were the potatoes and cabbage. I would definitely come back. read more

We had friendly service, from the hostess to the wait staff. The menu was not as German focused as one might expect, but the sausage paddle with bratwurst and polish sausage was delicious. The crispy Brussels sprouts appetizer was SO good. My wife got the chicken schnitzel club, which she said was great. I could wish for more German beer options, but the overall options for beer were solid. Warsteiner Dunkel or Pilsner is always great and did not disappoint. There was also Franziskaner Weissbier, but I did not try it. There are several regional options too. The river walk atmosphere was really relaxing and the guitar playing singer the night we were there was excellent. There are many not so great chains along the River Walk. If you are wanting to avoid those as well, give this place a try. read more

We were half happy with our experience here. The ribeye mashed potatoes and cabbage was very good and so was the Ruben sandwich. My daughter, the chicken strip connoisseur, said their chicken strips were just OK. The sauerkraut on the brat went very good either. The deviled eggs were dry and rubbery. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The ambiance was very nice, you can't beat right on the river walk. The live entertainment was nice and funny, but was sometimes competing with the live entertainment next door, so sometimes they'd be singing over each other. Girls trip to Texas included visiting the Riverwalk. We stumbled upon this restaurant when we were looking for a snack and some drinks. Prost is located on the Riverwalk in La Villita, this restarant has tons of outdoor seating, nice bar. They also have indoor seating but we didn't check that area out. Our group of 4 ordered some cocktails and the holy grail of nachos (Double stacked tortilla chips topped with our very own savory Altstadt chili, queso, and finished off with jalapenos, pico de gallo, guacamole, and sour cream.)! Huge and the ingredients were layered thru out so every bite had something in it. My god they were delicious!!!! What made our experience top notch was our server SERENA!! I frequent many restaurants all around and let me tell you that Serena was at the top of that list. She was so fun, friendly, her attitude was amazing. Give this woman a raise!!! My only "small suggestion" for this place was to put some fly fans on the tables. We battled a few wasps/bees trying to share our nachos and they were way too good to share!! We came early in the day (when they just opened) because we were about to fly out of town and want to try this place before we left. We sat outside and the view was great. They have a cool staggered deck view of the riverwalk. I could imagine this place would be amazing at night if it were full and hopping with people, maybe music? There are a lot of fried options. We got the corned beef egg rolls and sauerkraut balls. Both were good, but we just are huge fried food eaters, so regretted the decision soon after eating. One thing that they use plasticware. The service was friendly. This isn't a place I would go for a great date or dinner - but it is somewhere I would go to meet friends for drinks/snacks/atmosphere. read more

Went here on vacation and was thoroughly impressed. Ordered the Meister Burger and my wife got the Schnitzel club. Ordered a Long Island and Cherry Bath Bomb to accompany it. The Meister Burger was amazing, and was even better with the addition of Bier Cheese. Wife was impressed by the Schnitzel club as well, and the Long Island got her thoroughly buzzed. The fries that came with the meal were also rather divine, and I don't know what brand of ketchup they use but it really tied it all together.
