    Saigon bowl
    Roger M.

Quick stop the pillow little grub in the tub. Burning up some carbs walking around the city lakefront. Easy order, walk up to the counter. Friendly service with a smile I ordered the side on which is organic, roasted tofu, romaine, peanuts, carrots, red onion, green onion, and brown rice with a very scrumptious carrot ginger dressing. Healthy, grub, good protein, and fiber and low on the net carb - again good delicious grub to fill my hungry tub!

Japanese BBQ Salmon Bowl (added tomatoes, carrots, and kale)

My first protein bar meal did not disappoint! I have been wanting to try protein bar for a while so I downloaded the app and was given a free entree promo to try it which was an awesome incentive! I ordered on the app and got the Japanese bbq salmon bowl, and added some kale and tomatoes for some extra veggies. I wasn't sure what to expect from the portion or freshness of the salmon but was actually impressed by the size of the fish and the fullness of the bowl. The dressing on this bowl was fabulous and it was a well balanced and fresh meal. Full price this came out to about $16, so definitely one of their pricier bowls. I'm excited to come back to try more!

Very speedy. I get the same thing every day and they are very consistent. Lots of indoor space. They give a lot of avocado if you order it. As the cheapest salad option in the loop, I'll keep coming back

    Harvest Salad

I'm in town visiting the Leo Burnett building for work, and a coworker recommended this spot for lunch - I loved it! The price is what I expected for a health-food restaurant. My salad totaled out to be about $12 with tax - but I felt the portion size matched it since it comes in a big bowl. We ordered online for pickup and it was ready on the shelf at the exact time we asked! Super easy to run down between meetings. I ordered the Harvest Salad, and I highly recommend it. It's packed with toppings and high protein to keep you full. My favorite parts were the goat cheese, brussel sprouts & roasted butternut squash - like fall in a bowl! I just wish the goat cheese was crumbles instead of a big dollop. Overall, this is a great little lunch spot that's not too overpriced. If I'm back, I'd love to try some other dishes!

I ordered the green goddess wrap, spinach and pesto bar-rito, as well as the perk smoothie from Postmates. I was really satisfied with everything - the items were all tasty yet healthy. I appreciated the restaurant providing the macros on the menu as well and loved knowing I was getting my protein in. I would come again!

    mexacali bowl partially eaten

I got the morning mexacali scramble for breakfast. It was pretty good when I put a ton of hot sauce on it. It is nice that I can choose to get this with egg whites only. It was the right size for breakfast and they gave an ample amount of guacamole. The price point for breakfast is nearly $6 so it is steep for a quick breakfast. I would only get this for special occasions or if i was really hungry. If you use the ritual app to order this you get a few dollars off. I really do not like the smell of protein bar...everytime I pass it has a weird distinct smell..

Armed robbery. Paid over $17 for just a carnitas bowl and a tiny bag of skinny dipped almonds and on top of that my bowl was half empty (pictures attached). This is an insult to your customers and you are taking advantage of the inflationary environment to not only jack your prices twice the rate of inflation but ALSO serve smaller portions! And you guys still have the nerve to ask for a tip for counter service! Hope these bad practices eventually catch up to you once customers say enough!

Fruit Loop'd smoothie with whey protein & almond milk!
    Sally M.

This is my new go-to spot. First order (of many) I tried: - Quinoa chili (veg chili, cheddar & Greek yogurt) - Market (celery, apple, kale, parsley, spinach) raw juice Since then, I've tried a couple salads and three of their smoothies, which were all good. True, the lettuce was a bit wilted in one or two of them, and that was a bummer, but it is also hard to find non-wilted lettuce outside Northern California. Opportunities for improvement: use non-GMO, organic produce (because I'm not sure if they do). Also, perhaps tone down the sugar in some of the smoothies? But, kudos for posting this detailed nutritional info, when almost no one else does! :)

    Black bean bowl
    Thomas G.

Peaceful environment and great food! I stopped in during spring break week while in the area at 'Harold Washington College' which sits on the other side of N. State St. I took several minutes looking at their huge menu on the wall which consisted of a variety of vegetarian foods. That prompted me to question the employee at the register on what he recommends trying. I believe his name is Kenny, but my receipt says Carlos. Kenny recommended the 'Black Bean Bowl' because of what it had in it and also what I had the taste for. I visited this location 10 minutes until close and the employees did not have a problem with me staying until I finished which allowed me to relax and enjoy my bowl. For the employees recommendation, I'am not only a fan of Protein Bar & Kitchen, but also a fan of the 'Black Bean Bowl' and will most definitely stop in again for another round while at my college campus. As for this location it deserves nothing less than five stars because of its location in the tourist & Chicagoan heavy Chicago loop, and also the employees professionalism. Enjoy, Thomas G

The bowls are crazy filing. Totally worth 6$

The spicy chicken sandwich $21 was extremely soggy and chewy, and their "spicy" part is just hot sauce. It had no flavor. It was such a disappointment. And the "side salad" wow. ok. drowned in vinaigrette. The Wheat's End Skillet $22 was mid. Not spicy, bread wasn't good, and their veggies were mush. Service (1/5): There was a guy and a girl working and the girl was on coffee duty, while the guy was just taking orders and talking about lotion and soft hands. It was so weird. Ambiance (2/5): At least there's like 3 seats to sit on while you wait for your food. Other than that, it's just an "order, wait 25 mins, and take your soggy food home" place. They are a gluten free place too. Everything is put into Styrofoam take-out boxes. The prices are dine-in prices for soggy, flavorless food. I understand gluten free ingredients are expensive, but $22 for a skillet where 3 (eggs, bacon, and veggies) out of the 4 items (eggs, bacon, veggies, and bread) are already naturally gluten free is disappointing. I felt ripped off. @meni - Thanks for the comment! Cute business name! ;)

I highly recommend any of their items - you won't be disappointed.

It's a mom-and-pops shop through and through- you'll see homely decor, a simple but well done menu, and people from all walks of life coming together over delicious food. The staff was warm and attentive throughout the meal and brought out delicious complimentary french bread. It's pretty cool that although the restaurant doesn't serve alcohol, staff from the adjacent bar came around every so often and took orders. For appetizers, we started with the feta and olive appetizers. They were good, but I'd probably order something a little more unique next time. I opted for the chicken kalamata dinner for the main event, which came with more french bread and a salad. The salad came out first, and it was pretty simple with minimal dressing. I wished there had been more variety in produce and something besides iceberg lettuce for greens. I'd recommend getting some feta on the side to add some flavor. The chicken, however, was absolutely outstanding. It was super tender, seasoned beautifully with za'atar, and brined in vinegar (I think). The za'atar seasoned french fries underneath were extra crispy and perfectly soaked up the extra sauce from the chicken. For the price, this place is a steal- you really can't beat the quantity and quality of food that you get. Overall, a great experience- I definitely recommend making a stop if you're in the area!

The flavor was really good and the honey mustard complimented it nicely but it only came with 6 small potatoes which wasn't worth the $10 to us. The pizza had cured pepperoni, hot honey, ricotta, basil, mozzarella, and marinara and was fantastic. I would come back just for this pizza. The interior is bright, green, and inviting, with lots of seating and great natural light coming in from the front windows. There's also outdoor seating, but it was a bit too cold the day we went, so we stayed inside. Service is counter-style, and the staff was very knowledgeable about the menu. It's fairly simple, but still fun and satisfying. I ordered an Impossible burger, tater tots, and a strawberry almond milk smoothie. My friend got fries, so I was able to try both. After over 40 days without fried food, I was especially excited for the tots and they did not disappoint. Overall, the food was good and solid across the board. Nothing that completely blew me away, but definitely satisfying. If you're vegan or vegetarian and craving a classic burger experience, this is a great option. The smoothie was good as well, though I personally prefer fruit-forward smoothies with lighter juices, so the almond milk base wasn't quite my favorite, but it still complemented the meal nicely. Overall, if you're looking for a casual sit-down spot with a cute atmosphere and a solid Impossible burger at a reasonable price, Elephant + Vine is a great choice. 3.5 out of 5 stars.

He also suggested items to try on a next visit. There will definitely be a next visit. Fancy, picture perfect mocktails just might fool an onlooker. The drinks were fresh, fruity a little spicy and alcohol free. Please grab the jalapeño cornbread. It's the perfect balance of sweet and spicy with corn kernels and sliced peppers topped with a finishing salt. Just perfect. The deviled eggs were so tasty that I just know someone's Big Momma is in that kitchen! Next visit I'm looking for her. My wagyu steak taco platter was outstanding. Usually, there is some part of a platter I don't care for. Not this time. I can tell the tender meat was marinated as there was flavor coming through each bite. The sautéed peppers and onions added even more flavor. Served with warm, rolled corn tortillas, sour cream, cheese and guacamole to top it off. In the center was perfectly cooked cilantro rice and creamy black beans. Couldn't eat it all, but it made a nice lunch for the next day. I suggest you do NOT leave the restaurant without stopping by the Cookie Bar for a sweet treat. I grabbed cookies; cherry pie, s'more's, lemon and the viral tequila sunrise which you much be twenty-one to purchase. Everything was amazing at Summer House. The entrees were more of the disappointment. First we were served the spicy rigatoni - portions were lacking, dish was underseasoned, and the pasta and peas were undercooked. The rigatoni itself was more al dente than im used to/prefer so heads up there. I personally like firm noodles so not a problem but it was a big tougher than I would've liked. What really made me consider whether it was overall undercooked was the fact that the peas were nearly raw. Most of them had an unpleasant hard texture in each bite The mushroom pizza was up next - crust was nice and crispy but the filling was extremely overpowered by something that I couldnt put my finger on.. I believe it was an herb, assumedly rosemary, that just made having a second slice hard to keep down Finally the fish tacos - the most visually appealing of the 3. Despite its appearance, they were also a let down. The tortillas were dry, the tacos themselves were bland, and the star, the fish, was nonexistent. I ate one where it was basically just all breading. The second time around I got a bit more fish but it was also dry and lacking sauce to balance it Ultimately everything looked better than it tasted. The saving grace for my visit there though was the cookie I got from the cookie bar they have out front. The half chicken was excellent, cooked perfectly and rubbed with delicious warming spices, the potatoes and pickled veggies the perfect counterbalance. Similar idea to the dish at Armitage Alehouse, but better seasoned and a lot lighter. The steamed mussels rivaled those of Armitage as well at a fraction of the cost. Very different broth, but the mussels themselves were excellent. We were also really impressed with the tuna tartare, an excellent blend of flavors and textures we could have had seconds on. The crispy shrimp rolls were a slight miss, largely because the shrimp were finely chopped, rather than sliced chunks. You ended up getting more the essence of shrimp than shrimp itself. We also felt the skillet cookie was just fun, no better or worse than we've had at places like Crosby Kitchen. Overall, a really good meal that scrapes being really great at times, and does it at affordable prices with friendly, attentive service.
