I went there for an inspection and called prior to make an appointment in which I've gotten my cars inspected plenty of times so I knew the process. I show up 8 mins before the appointment and the guy looks at me like I'm crazy and I told him I had an appointment and then he sends me inside to find someone, so I did. The guy I ran into asked me if I needed help and I told him I had an appointment, so he took my keeps my registration and came back a min after and told me he couldn't help me cause the inspection sticker on the plates expired two months ago and I explained to him that it doesn't matter if they expired I have up to a year to get it inspected and he said no... not even trying to help me or anything. Everything was going generally fine with my inspection, until the employee came out and started ranting and waving his arms about not having my front plate mounted. He threatened to fail my inspection, without letting me get a word in edge wise. I moved from a state that doesn't require a front license plate so I didn't have a mount. When he finally stopped yelling and I told him that he simply said he could mount it for me. Just confused as to why anyone would ever approach a customer in this way. Two things off the bat that set PAE Co. apart from the rest of shops around Providence/RI - friendly customer service from ALL of the employees (Roger, the girl who answers the phone etc..., and prompt attention to the customer and their vehicle's needs - getting the vehicle fixed as quickly as possible. When I get the truck back I'll update on the actual repairs, but so far I'm impressed and have found my new place to get my vehicle repaired. read more

It's easy to see how this garage has been in business since the 1930s. Every time I come here I get a sense that these guys are super busy, but it never impacts my appointment. Everyone I've intereacted with at Providence Automotive has been personable and helpful -- I never feel like a pain in the ass. I've had minor maintenance done here with no problem. I also prefer this place to any that I've ever been when it's inspection time. I am in and out before I've had a chance to get bored and uncomfortable in the waiting room. read more

Don't judge a book by its over here, once you brush off the dust you find a well seasoned auto mechanic. Lee made me feel very comfortable and explained my car situation the way he would treat his own car. I would come here ( if even just for a quote ) to get anything fixed on my car. The only downside coming here versus going to a dealership is it could take longer for your car to be fixed, which could get tricky if you don't have a spare car or a replacement car. I found Providence Auto on my AAA app for a place to get my car inspected. It didn't pass but the mechanic there was great and explained the issue with my car and how serious it was and quoted me a price to fix it. There was no pressure to get it fixed there. Needless to say I brought my car back the next morning to have the repairs done and had it back the same day with my new inspection sticker. Great Service... The quality of the work at Providence Automotive Engineering is consistently excellent! Lee is very knowledgeable and just a really nice guy. The prices are great too, but the main reason that I drive up here all the way from Hope Valley is because when they do a job, they do it right the first time. I won't have my tires mounted and balanced anywhere else due to shoddy workmanship at places that "specialize" in tires, because every time I've had them "balanced" at these specialty shops I've had to bring the car back because the improper balancing resulted in excessive steering wheel vibration. I needed some work done on my car to pass inspection. After going to several different places and getting "robbed", I went to Prov Auto Engineering. The mechanic who worked on my car, Lee, was very intent on getting my car running properly. His demeanor was very nice and he was adamant about not giving me my car back until everything was fixed. And with the cost of the repairs and the labor, I was still under my budget. My only issue was they let me drive away without paying for the inspection. read more
