Also had the flourless chocolate torte and the tiramisu for desert, both absolutely yummy. 2 drinks with that, for about $75 pp including tip. Not cheap, but not terrible. Came here on a Saturday evening around 6pm after a stroll in the park nearby, all table were seated so we happily settle on the bar seat which was pretty comfortable, I ordered a glass of barbera knowing i'll order pasta, it's never been so satisfying to have a sip of good red wine to unwind the week, we had cavatelli w pesto and papardelle w meat sauce, the pastas were amazing, pesto was fresh and nutty, the color, the savory of meat sauce, boy! I don't recall the last time I had pastagasm this bad, or more accurately, amazingly mind blowing!! I wanted to have tiramisu for dessert but opt of panna cotta which was just as good w fresh mints! I ordered Potato Leek Soup it was yummy delicious. My wonderful friend Brian ordered Burrata. For main course I ordered Milanese and he ordered Bolognese. The food was big portions. Visited this Italian restaurant on a rainy Tuesday night. It's a small, intimate establishment and seems to be quite popular because it was busy. There seemed to be quite a few families present so it seems to be good with kids. My party (3 total) and I weren't able to get a table but were swiftly accommodated by the bar. I would definitely recommend making a reservation if you plan to dine here. We were satisfied with our food. I personally had the papardelle and I unfortunately wasn't completely wowed but it was good. I can't say I would order it again, though. The devilled eggs were very delicious though! read more

I enjoyed the outdoor eating experience with friends and fresh delish food. I had salmon that was done perfectly cooked medium along with grilled artichokes in a light olive oil. There was light butter sauce that I had on the side to put over the fish as I wished. * I do like to have sauce on side on many foods The cappuccino was fabulous bold, strong and creamy. By chance, I decided to have brunch here today with the family. We were parked right in front of the place, it wasn't too busy, and the menu looked good so it worked out. We were seated right away and the service was immediate. The place is small and the tables are pretty close; while you're not sitting in anyone's lap, you also can't have private conversation. Thankfully it wasn't to capacity when we came and the decor is pleasant, more for evening dinner than for brunch. It's like a Bistro/Brasserie hybrid. I decided to splurge and have a big breakfast- French toast, eggs, bacon, salad - and a mocktail. The food came out surprisingly quickly (we ordered a lot of food) and it was staged nicely so as soon as we finished one set of plates, the others came out right after the table was cleared. Everything tasted fresh and delicious; the eggs were done well with being overcooked, the salad had just enough dressing and the french toast melted in my mouth like butter. I usually go to Sarabeth's in Manhattan for this quality of food, but with congestion pricing looming, it's nice to know there are local places I can get my favorites. One small caveat: While the staff is friendly and professional, I had the feeling from some of the patrons that they're uncomfortable with people who are not their neighbors patronizing their local eateries. There were some stares and one little kid even commented to his parents about me. I ignore that kind of stuff, but it's something to be aware of. Let me be clear: it has nothing to do with the staff, just something to be mentally prepared for. Then again, I'm hyper observant in a way most people aren't. That said, I've found a new brunch spot and I'll definitely return soon. read more

Nice restaurant for a date night! They have fully enclosed "outdoor" seating, and indoor tables and bar seating. Complementary salty bread with olive oil, and a full bar. Happy Hour until 6:30pm weekdays. I have never seen a place where all of the cocktails are cheaper than all of the wines by glass, until now! That said, the wines are excellent and they also have beer. The eggplant parmigiana is delicious, easily one of the best I've ever had. My dining companion recommends the salmon, which they'll make to your requested level of doneness. Fast friendly service, and a gender neutral restroom in the back. Buona notte! read more

I probably ordered wrong and should have gone with something more Italian but I ordered the steak. The tagliata di Manzo to be exact. It was quite bad. Just unbelievably tough and fatty and sinewy somehow at the same time. I could barely chew it. Apparently it's supposed to be served sliced and this definitely wasn't. Took me forever to cut a single piece. It was seasoned fine but for a $40 steak it was really disappointing. Other than that the experience was lovely. Service was great! Their outdoor seating area is so nice, so inviting, with pretty flowers and tableware, even if no one is there. If they took the same care with the flavor of their food as they do with appearances, it would be great. The plates look attractive but are criminally unseasoned. Completely unseasoned sauce with linguine (and a really small portion). Gnudi with a texture like glue. Also underseasoned. The friendly waitress said, when she dropped it off, Let me know if you need salt, pepper or parmesan. Then she left. And didn't come back, sadly, to check. The chicken Milanese was the worst! It was unflavored and dry with an abundant topping of arugula. The menu indicated a sauce which was non existent. I informed the waitress who informed the manager who did absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. At the sake of not making a scene, I ate what I could. The manager never came over and the curtesy of complimentary drinks or dessert was never extended as in more attentive restaurants. I have had this place bookmarked for some time now and knew that I was definitely in the mood for Italian food for dinner. My friend accompanied me and I was so glad for the company, especially with today's rainy weather. Good company and eating at a new place equals a good time in my opinion! We arrived at Provini and were greeted by the hostess/waiter Nitzan who allowed us to choose where we wanted to be seated. My friend decided that he wanted to sit by the front so that we could enjoy the outside view. When it was time to order, my friend knew he wanted Lasagna but of course I was undecided since there were so many delicious items on the menu!-lol. I finally decided to order the Scallops wrapped in Prosciutto as an appetizer which was fabulous! Bolognese was main course and it tasted delightful! My friend mentioned several times that his Lasagna was good ( I can confirm this because I tried some- lol). Oh Boy was the dessert yummy....the Tiramisu was creamy as well as heavenly and I savored every bite. My friend said that his chocolate torte was wonderful! To top it off, our server Paola gave us complimentary wine and scones. To be honest, I am still stuffed from everything I ate at Provini earlier-lol. Paola and Nitzan were so great to us....They were both patient in describing menu items. Paola stated all of the dinner specials and I was so impressed by their exemplary customer service. We don't get here often enough but we've never had a bad meal. We usually visit when we are feeling like having a pasta centric meal. Ironic that we don't visit pasta Louise when feeling pasta but read my other reviews for my opinion on them (bad all around). Last night we kept it simple, marinated olives and the mushroom pasta special with fusilli and the cavatlli with broccoli rabe pesto. The bolognese and ragu dishes were amazing on a prior visit. We've enjoyed a few of the salads as well. I must admit, we haven't ventured too far from the salads and pasta. The entrees look interesting especially the eggplant and Milanese. Ambiance is warm and inviting although at times you feel a bit cramped. The service was good. My only compliant is the wine list and price point. I still struggle when neighborhood joints create wine lists with all bottles north of $50. Our two pasta dishes last night were just about the same amount as our bottle of red. read more

Great atmosphere, friendly service and amazing food. I had the pesto pasta dish with a salad and a great rose and I could not have been happier. My husband loved his dinner too. A classic restaurant with dry service. We waited to be seated for the tables to be cleared. It took a bit for anyone to greet us. Is the one waitress the only one working the tables? Our waitress barely cracked a smile. I got carbonara. My family members got other nice brunch dishes. The portions we're medium sized. Just enough so no one leaves leftovers. The food was delicious. I think the service was the damper here. We tried to order, and I felt I was imposing. She told me she needs to come back. It's really the way it was communicated. Also when we took pictures by ourselves, she avoided us. We just kind of felt cold. Will definitely try it again but with no expectations for friendly service. First off, note that the restaurant is VERY small. As soon as you walk in they ask if you have a reservation because there are about 10 normal spots to sit and then the bar. It has one restroom that sits basically in the eating area (which is pretty gross) but the lighting is great and it has a friendly feel. Cost: It's most definitely on the expensive side. Park Slope area but Upper East Side cost. The food is ridiculously fresh and delicious however. Portions are very small for the cost. We ordered the buffalo mozzarella with figs and yellow beets. For our main course we got the short rib which was fall of the bone soft but the cost for the size was insanity ($32 and it was only placed over a small salad), and the bolognese (again, small but DELICIOUS!). For dessert we got the flourless torte with strawberry glaze (and yet again ......small but delicious). Overall id say if the costs weren't so pricey and the inside seating was bigger I'd easily give it 4 stars read more

The shrimp gnocci tasted delicious and was swimming in a delicious cheese sauce. I feel the actual balls could have been a bit softer/creamer, but the shrimp flavor worked perfectly with all of the other ingredients (tomatoes, basil). Service: 2.5 Although our waitress was nice, she seemed to have forgotten about our table on multiple occasions. My friend and I sat outside the restaurant and had to walk inside multiple times to order food and drinks, or get our bill and pay because nobody was coming over to us at all. The food also took very long to come out. The salad, albeit delicious, was very simple, and took quiet a while to come out. Delicious! I had the bolognese with boar and beef ragu, just the sort of thing for the last (hopefully) fairly cold night of this absurdly weird spring we had/are having. Global warming is real my friends and if there is any upside to it it is a comforting dish with serious Nonna-vibes. The pasta, itself, was stunning because it's handmade and the portion is just right for a hearty appetite or emotional eating, which is what I had in mind. For wine I had the lovely bartender, Cecilia, choose a glass for me--it was a red and perfect with my meal. It was my first time there and the customers seated at the bar couldn't have been friendlier. Provini is a regulars' spot and their loyal clientele are super cheerful and welcoming to newcomers. In fact, as one lady was leaving, she stopped by my stool and said, "We didn't get to chat this time so I'll look forward to that next time." What I'm saying is if Mr. Rogers needed a solid meal on a Wednesday night this is where he would go. Meals at Provini end with some gratis handmade biscotti, perfect for dipping into the last few sips of my red, for a desert moment that is deeply satisfying but not off-the-charts heart attack. Don't worry if your taste leans towards luxurious, there are a handful of rich ends you may choose. I'd love to try this place as I walk past it almost every day. The first time I tried, I called on a Thursday to make a reservation for 2 on Friday night and was told that they don't take reservations at peak hours. This was confusing, because peak hours are the main time you would want a reservation, but they told me I shouldn't have a problem finding a seat. You can imagine my frustration when the first question we were asked upon entering on Friday night was "do you have a reservation?" I said no but asked if we could take a nearby open seat for two, but couldn't, because it was reserved. Tried again last night, wanted to sit outside and have a drink before ordering in the beautiful weather. We sat down and were ready to order our drinks. Waiter asked if we were ordering food and we said maybe, but not for a little while at least. We were then told that we can't order just drinks outside and that we'll have to sit at the bar, so we left. Maybe one day we'll meet the requirements to actually eat here but they sure don't make it easy. read more

This is a cute and cozy restaurant that seems to have some history. It has a nice ambiance with jazz music in the background (which I love!). My friend and I met here for brunch on a Saturday. They were friendly and accommodating to my dietary restrictions and let me remove ingredients from the NORVEGESE item on the menu. Unfortunately, it took a long time for us to get our meals because the kitchen didn't read the waitress's notes about my special requests. My friend and I didn't mind since we were catching up and hanging out! They were great about remaking my meal too. Unfortunately, when it finally came the avocado was added to bread even though I didn't see that on the ingredients listed. I went to the restaurant Provini this morning. They were getting ready to open. I went in and asked if I could make a reservation and the lady said "we are not open yet, please go outside". I said okay, please give me a menu to look at. She said we are not open yet, I am not giving you a menu". There was another man behind me, he also wanted a menu. We were both upset at the treatment we received. I told the lady working there (a lady about 5'3" with a dark ponytail), you will not be getting the money I was going to spend on my family of 4. I will not go back there unless I get an apology from the owner. The former owner who recently passed away, Peter, never would have let that happen. He was such a nice man. I walked down to another restaurant a few blocks down. They were not open yet, but the man working there was very nice to me. I will bring my family there instead. read more

It was just horrible. Waited so long for our meal only to be ignored every time we called the servers for basic things such as toppings & bread. Servers gave lame excuses and didn't seem like they were trying much- they couldn't even give us a recommendation from their OWN menu! Food was okay, outdoor area is just noisy and UNCOMFORTABLE! Avoid this place & go a couple blocks down for better spots where they actually CARE about their customers and give you REAL Italian service! read more
