Provision is a breath of fresh air in the Indy restaurant scene. Easily one of the contributors to the recently nationally feted independent restaurant scene in this city. Unique in its approach, we started with a basket of bread, sourced from 200 miles south. There were four distinctly different kinds of bread, exceptionally well seasoned and served with spiced butter and oil. Alcohol selections was broad and appetizers were plentiful. We had the Grilled Shrimp and Oyster chowder. Both were well made and presented. Next we chose mushroom and sun dried tomatoes and lobster dumpling. Again rather unique dishes worth remembering. We had no room for entrees this time! For desert, there was chocolate tart with lemon ice cream. Again a unique combo. The ambience was stylish and a little loud - maybe people were having a very good time. We had a great wait-person. He was knowledgeable about the origins of the 'provisions' and also could discuss their choices of single malt scotch. A very enjoyable experience and wholeheartedly recommended. read more

I truly don't understand the ratings for Provision. It's a very trendy spot with cool decor. The service is very good. Everything else is disappointing, including all the food and appetizers we had. Ok, the charred shrimp is tasty but it was downhill after that. The wife had seabass and I had a filet. My steak had some weird tomato/pepper based topping but overall was lacking any seasoning and was flavorless. The seabass was completely forgettable and again not very flavorful. In this price range Provision is probably the worst restaurant in Indy. read more

Was well as the chefs special, a delicious fish dish with risotto on the side. My counterparts stated the steaks were good as well. Haven't seen such great service in a very long time. First, I arrived with no reservation and was told there we no reservations available until 7:45, but was offered to check the bar if I'd like. I said sure, so the hostess actually walked me to the bar and asked if that was suitable. Of course, yes! Very nice bar. Crowded, but very nice. The bar tender walked up to me immediately to ask if if like something to drink. I got the Taxman Deduction (Belgian Dubbel). Very malty on the balance but excellent flavor, served in a proper goblet and at a proper temperature. I was called for a table about 5 minutes later. How great is that?! I can't say enough about how excellent Todd, my server, was. Genuinely excited to talk about the specials and his favorite selections. His enthusiasm and sincerety really made the experience. He completely sold me on trying the sparkling water which they carbonate themselves to perfection. I ordered the jumbo crab cake which was incredible. Not as jumbo as I pictured in my mind, but honestly one of the best crab cakes I've had. Todd also brought a special treat compliments of the chef: a little mini salad with Carrie greens, seeds, pomegranate, cheese, and some other tasty stuff. So cool. Next was the tortelloni. Nailed it once again, and delivered with enthusiasm and professionalism (Todd is amazing). Also a big thank you to the Provision staff and management! This place is a class act. The food here is great and the service was good as well but the host manager Chris is one of the rudest individuals I've encountered. We were at the Ironworks hotel for a business meeting and had a group of over 15 on the deck for cocktails after hosting our all-company dinner here two days before. Chris came out and made us leave the deck because the outside tables were for "reserved" guests. Nobody was waiting and he was very rude. The restaurant gets a decent review, Chris gets a "zero." read more

I would love to give this five stars, but for the price of the food, I would expect top tier service. My husband and I both ordered the 5 course tasting menu, which included a smaller portion of wagyu beef. We asked for it to be prepared medium rare--my husband's came out perfect; mine was rare and cold inside. I reluctantly sent it back and said "I'm sorry" to our waiter, to which he replied, "it happens." It just didn't correspond to the experience or the kind of food we were eating. The waiter also told us that because we were celebrating our anniversary there, we would get a free dessert on them. That never happened. I just expected more from such a great restaurant and found myself a little disappointed. read more

First of all, we were so happy with the service here! Aaron was an amazing waiter! He did an excellent job making sure everything was tasting great and definitely deserved a good tip and a great review! Second, the drinks and meal were very delicious! Started it out great with the isle of flowers and the two deep brown ale and the bread (of course)! My fiancé then ordered the burger and I got the tortellini. Everything was so delicious that I couldn't stop! To finish it off, we ordered the peanut butter bombe. It was the cherry on top to a great meal! I thought the menu was a bit limited, and would have liked to have had more options from which to choose. I settled on the vegetarian tortelloni as my main course, and ordered the "Off to the Races" bourbon cocktail. We shared two appetizers, but I can't for the life of me remember what they were, and am not seeing them on the menu online (though I do recall once was supposed to be like some sort of tater tot for adults). The food was decent, portion sizes were appropriate (not too big that you need a take home container, but not so small that you leave feeling hungry, either), the atmosphere was nice, and the service was good. read more

Absolutely loved this place. Limited review because we came here on a Tuesday evening for an after dinner drink (no food) on the second floor patio area outside. Walking in, I was immediately impressed with the classy ambiance and artistic features. The way they tied in this old industrial theme with a modern design was fascinating. The drinks were excellent, went with the usual old fashioned and the lady got a fancy cocktail which was mixed to perfection (not too sweet). The patio area outside was an excellent place to sit. This new restaurant was great. We went with a party of 6 for my husband's 50th birthday. We started with the bread basket (yum) and the oysters (didn't eat...those were for hubby). The bread was so good, we ordered another round with dinner. Three of us had the NY strip special with a shrimp and a scallop over risotto. Mine arrived without a shrimp so they brought one out immediately. Everyone loved their steak but mine was a bit salty or over seasoned. My daughter had the burger which was unique and amazing. My husband had the short ribs and he ate every bite. My daughter had the Hake and she said it was good. The desserts were to die for. Due to my husband's birthday, he got a sugar cream pie with ice cream as a gift. I ordered the peanut butter ball wrapped in cocoa with a bit of banana(?) ice cream. Those two items sealed the deal! They were amazing. I gave 4 stars due to the noise level...very loud. It was challenging to hear everyone in our party. Also, our dinner lasted 2.5 hours. That was a bit long for a Wednesday night. This is a great addition to the corner of Keystone Ave & 86th street. The dishes are quite decorative, pleasantly plated and meticulously cooked for an amazing dinner. I was totally in a carbohydrate mood and had Tortellini. It was really good, especially with the shaved truffles on top. Even though it was the carbiest thing on the menu, I totally dug it. But hey, let me backtrack to some appetizers you've gotta try. The lobster dumplings and the foie gras were amazing. The one interesting thing about the appetizers was the use of pomegranate seeds. Always a solid bet for a great meal and pleasant atmosphere. The wedge salad is perfection and the burger at $20 seems pricey but I think it's worth it. The chicken or short ribs are also excellent choice. The peanut butter bomb dessert is one of my favorite in Indy. read more

I am a huge fan of Cunningham restaurants, but unfortunately didn't have a great experience at Provision. I found the menu to be pretty limited: lots of steaks and big seafood options, but the appetizers were pricey and mostly seafood oriented, no salads or lighter options available. Not even the beautiful included bread basket I look forward to at Vida, just a small one you can order with one piece of each bread! The atmosphere is more Mesh than Vida, trendy but tight in places. I had the tortellini, but it was extremely heavy and not super flavorful. I really could have used some salt at the table to augment in. I also tried a side of vegetables, which were $8 and not anything particularly special... they were covered in oil and without much seasoning. I did enjoy a glass of wine and my husband said his steak was expertly done: maybe this is a better place for steaks and heavy food. In any event, I'll take my money back to Vida instead of driving to the northside in the future. read more

First time visitor. I definitely recommend the chef's sampler. Everything was amazing from the oyster's to the desert. I was hesitant to order the sampler because I thought I would not get full but I left feeling comfortable full. It was absolutely delightful. The only thing that top the food was the service. Our server Jeff was absolutely amazing. He took time and answered all our questions and gave detailed description of each entire. We came here last week to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We were both so excited to try this restaurant since it's been all over social media. Thinking it would be busy we ended up making an open table reservation, however even with our reservations we ended up getting a table right next to the entrance which was a little loud. The food was excellent, he got a steak and mashed potatoes and I got the tortellini. I would definitely recommend coming and sharing a few of their sides to sample everything out! read more

We were excited to try this place! We had heard great reviews about the food and atmosphere. The food spoke for itself, really great!! We got the oysters (so delish), bread, scallops and a ribeye and a dessert, all were awesome flavors and fresh ingredients. I personally like when service is outstanding at a restaurant. This place was lacking, our waiter did not have much interaction with us and no real suggestions on cocktails or dishes. The atmosphere was ok...mixed reviews because I love the bar area and vibe but the actual restaurant felt very formal steakhouse. I think they could dim the lights more and update some of their seating. It would be great if they had heaters outside to enjoy the patio year round! I really did enjoy the food, just think the atmosphere and service could use an upgrade. read more

I VERY rarely write negative reviews... My husband and I wanted so badly to love this place. We came here for our anniversary while staying at the Iron Works hotel. We were disappointed with every aspect of the experience. The hostess was rude. The atmosphere left a lot to be desired. Our server was very inattentive. And the majority of our food was average, at best. The bread basket appetizer and "Tan Lines" cocktail were the only bright spots in our experience. We will walk to the other side of the parking lot to go to Ruth's Chris next time... similar price, way better experience! read more

The bread basket is to die for. From what I understand, the accoutrements with the bread vary, but when I went they served it went bone marrow butter. SO GOOD! And that was just the beginning of our meal. I ordered the special of filet and sea bass, and it was delicious and tender. The filet cut like butter! I had the tortellini and it was really, really good. The server was on top of checking to make sure things were vegetarian. It was pretty expensive, but I thought it was worth it. The bar seemed a little crammed and a championship game was on and a group of guys were screaming. They left shortly after, so I'm thinking maybe they were told they were being too loud. We thought we would try the Cunningham Group's newest dining location Provision last weekend. Normally we are big fans of CG's and frequent Vida, Livery and especially Union 50 on a regular basis, so we had great expectations. Upon arrival, we weren't disappointed. The decor is great, and very tastefully done. We were seated on the huge outdoor patio with a view of-- well, traffic. Okay, I guess you can't have everything. From here our experience went slowly down hill. It took a long time before our server acknowledged our presence. We had to flag down the server from an adjacent table who took pity on our plight and took our drink orders. We perused the menus while the server brought our drinks. We were thinking about ordering some appetizers while we decided on our entrees, but our server informed us that they require that we order the entire meal all at once. WTF? How we dine should be our choice and we should be able to order what we want, when we want it. Not dictated too us. Strike two. So we ordered the Lobster Dumpling and the Oysters, followed by the Scallops and the Salmon. Hey, we like seafood. We were extremely disappointed. The oysters were overcooked and so covered with topping that you couldn't even find the oyster. The dumpling was also overcooked, chew and bland. No flavor at all. The entrees were not any better. Both the scallops and the salmon were cooked to perfection, so kudos there. However, extremely bland and very under seasoned. Strike three. For the price of this meal and from the Cunningham Group I was extremely disappointed. I would skip Provision and go to their downtown offerings for much better flavor at a better price. read more

Came here for a Friday night dinner with the girls and we were not disappointed! As a matter of fact, I think we all left as members of the Clean Plate Club! I had the burger and loved how unique it was with the green onion English muffin, brussels slaw, and tomato marmalade. The "tater tottler" is also a delicious surprise on the menu. This was by far one of the best meals I have ever had, and to top it off, the service was out of this world. My boyfriend and I came to celebrate our 3 year anniversary, and opted for the chef tasting menu. With each course, our server was very well informed with every ingredient and gave detailed explanations of the wine pairing. The portions were huge for being a tasting menu, but every bite had you wanting to go back for more. I would highly recommend everyone eats here at least once. read more
