Service was good, the worker was very nice and attentive. Drinks: Chai Latte: 5/10 - There's taste of chai is very subtle. I like the lightness, it's not overpowering but it's still ok. Just ok though. The chai has a very very strong aftertaste. Hawaiian Honey: 7/10 - There's not really a taste of honey, personally, I think it needs more flavor because otherwise it just tastes like regular matcha. Uala Matcha: 7/10 - It needs a little more sweetness. The cold foam is where all the sweetness is, so advice is to mix before drinking. All in all, I agree with another review saying it all tastes like watered down milk. Price wise... it's a bit expensive. The drinks in the pic are all pretty small, but total was 22.73? Sweltering temperatures during our visit here! A long line of anticipating patrons standing in the hot midday sun to order and enjoy a refreshing drink from Pu Kena! Each minute that ticked on in the noonday sun made me rethink what drink I wanted to order. Beautiful and lively music pumped out of the sound system and those who had umbrellas, popped up to provide shade. Nearing the front, I decided on a Lotus Yuzu Lemonade with Mamaki tea! Sooo refreshing and delicious! Highly recommend this drink. Great smiling service and there's even a shaded seating area. Thank goodness. The wait was long and I did get sunburnt! I was excited that a new coffee trailer in Aiea as there really isn't much good coffee spots in the area. Pu Kena Coffee is located next to Shay's Smashburgers which I pass whenever I get onto the freeway. I waited until the hype kind of died down to check them out since I saw how long the lines were before. I like that there is ample parking and tables outside that you can sit, although it can get hot. I came on a weekend before noon and thankfully there wasn't a long line. My friend and I decided to get the Waimomi which is a vanilla latte with Kulolo cold foam. I didn't want to get the matcha because I'm picky about my matcha and I could already tell by the color, it probably wasn't going to be that good. As for my latte, unfortunately there was nothing special about it and I couldn't really taste the kulolo in the cold foam. I was disappointed as I was hoping a good coffee shop would finally open in Aiea. My friend also thought the coffee was average. The concept of the coffee shop sounds great, but I was met average to below average coffee :/ read more

weekdays seem less busy than weekends and the line isn't as long. I do think there isn't a whole lot of options for coffee around this surrounding area so thats why they're busy. they are located around the same areas as shays burger. there is some parking but can be full. I do like that they use local vendors tho and service was generally friendly. It is outdoors and it does get hot in the summer heat. it got a little uncomfortable just sitting and standing there. I got a latte with vanilla cold foam around $8, not sure if it's just opening blues but the coffee was a little watery. hopefully they can get the jist of things as time goes on. read more

Just before you jump on the freeway here sits a new spot for something cool...Pū Kena Coffee a super cute trailer playing local Hawaiian music keeps you feeling happy as on this blazing hot afternoon there was a decently long line but I was determined to get something refreshing after a early morning Sunday start of my day. As every drink is crafted it does take quite awhile with the long line it was quite painful for the long wait but there are a decent amount of shaded picnic bench seating while we wait for our drinks as I got the Strawberry Fresca their version of Strawberry Matcha which has strawberry puree and topped with vanilla cold foam is something I definitely had to try and thank you Jackie K for the yummy drink with matcha sourced from Uji Japan I had high expectations but sadly it was ok it didn't have that nice matcha kick but don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the drink but I'd get a refresher the next time as it really hit the spot. They do have some snacks like scone and croissant sandwich but understandably they were out of some when we got there. The staff is very friendly but I think I'll wait when the line gets down before I return or make sure you have an umbrella and water while you wait it gets pretty hot out here. Thank you! read more

A local business selling drinks? Yes please!!! They are located in the same parking lot as Shay's smash burgers, right across of forty niners restaurant. They are a maroonish trailer. Their menu consists of local products. Baked good and drinks. Oh! And açaí bowls. Yum! I got their chocolate Haupia which had chocolate syrup, coconut cold foam and chocolate bits. I added another shot because it comes with 2 and I love strong coffee, and she for sure delivered. The roast is very good I loved it. The coffee wasn't too sweet. I also got their waimomi latte which was KULOLO! I recommend this one! So so good! If you like a nutty flavored coffee, then you'll love this one. Kulolo taste is strong which I absolutely loved. Aloha! As a former barista, world traveler, and Native Hawaiian, I support this new coffee spot 100%. First, the reason you're going to want to check this place out is because they have tasty flavors of both coffee and matcha drinks, depending on how you prefer your caffeine intake. Clearly, you want something that's not simply the ordinary coffee that you could have made at home. They have unique local flavors that you won't easily find anywhere else, such as kulolo, uala, macadamia nut, banana maple, etc. They also have a small selection of baked goods, including their ham and cheese croissant as they're only savory option, which my husband and I find quite tasty. Second, the reasons you're going to continue supporting this coffee establishment. Reason #1 - You love Hawai'i and you want to support our local economy. Starbucks may have been a convenient go-to but Aiea is saturated with them and to quote one of my pop culture faves, "she doesn't even go here." Pu Kena supports other small local businesses and the local community through the products and ingredients they use for items on the menu. Reason #2 - they're conveniently located. If you're passing through Aiea on Kamehame Highway, just hang on the right, snag your drink, and before you head into town. Small parking lot that's never packed. I would recommend setting aside 15 minutes if you see a bunch of people out front. If we eventually get an online ordering system in, even better. I had a banana maple latte, it was ok however not too much maple and overly banana. I was so excited to try this and went as soon as they opened at 6am and the line was long already. I know a lot of people were wanting to try it because they are new. Unfortunately, our first experience was pretty disappointing. I ordered the mac nut latte and it was extremely bitter with almost no macadamia nut flavor. I ended up not being able to drink it and had to throw it away. My husband got the chocolate haupia, which was a little better, but still wasn't something we'd order again. We paid around $18for the two drinks, so it was disappointing to leave feeling like neither was worth the price. The barista taking our order also wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming, which added to the experience. I definitely think this trailer has potential and hope they're able to work out some of these things as they get established. I was excited to try this place as I live in the area and pass it on my way to work in the morning. Today I woke up extra early so that I could go and grab coffee before going into work. There was no line which was great at 610a! I ordered the iced Waimomi latte with oat milk. I am not the type of person to like very, very sweet coffees and this was a great mix between tasting the coffee and a little bit of sweetness. The kulolo cold foam was really ono! Wanted to write about my experience not with the purpose of tearing down a local business but in hopes that this can be used constructively. When the barista handed me my drink order, she told me to enjoy, but said nothing about the scone I ordered. I mentioned I was still waiting for food. She then told me they were out of scones which was disappointing to hear after I had already ordered it. She left a pause in the conversation until I had to initiate it again and ask if she had anything else available. She finally offered their buttered sourdough bread. Maybe she was hoping I forgot about the scone or once she said they were sold out that I would say "it's okay, next time" as if I didn't spend money on it. It should have gone as: "Here are your drinks. Unfortunately we are sold out of scones. Is there anything else on the food menu I can get you instead?" all in the same breath instead of me initiating each time. We also didn't notice until we left, that half of our order was wrong. Sorry to whoever's order we got instead but now we know how good the Po mahina (vanilla cold brew) is! I really enjoyed the lotuses. It doesn't taste "plant-based" -- it tastes like a redbull. I like that they also come in 16 and 20 oz. I was excited to try the Koko Loko knowing how hard it is to find shops that serve matcha with coconut water. However, I wouldn't get it again. It would be better if it was made with matcha cold foam leaving it refreshing but not overly watery. While this first time experience wasn't up to expectations, I plan on giving it some time and coming back after they smooth over some kinks. read more

I am easily influenced when it comes to matcha's, so when I sees trending place on social media, I will make the drive to it! We tried a total of 6 drinks, since we had to try both the coffee's and matcha's, and were overall disappointed. Matcha's were obviously not high quality, and a waste of money given the price, and coffee's were watered down. We got a scone, and sandwich as well, but one was burnt, and the sandwich was as expected, a basic sandwich, which ofc i didn't expect much of to begin with. I love both dry or moist scones, so i'm okay with either, but this just wasn't on my radar. I ordered one drink and a pastry and the wait was quite long, close to 40 minutes. You order first at the front and you can wait in the shaded area. Get parking but might have to double park due to limited space. The service was great but the drink was mid (Hapa Matcha) and added housemade syrups, which made it more taste like flavored milk with a whisper of matcha more than an actual matcha latte. To ber fair, I do like my matcha strong in flavor and intensity (4-5g type). I do like that they source local. Maybe next time I'll try their coffees. I came here today and got the chocolate haupia and Hawaiian honey matcha, and both were so good! The coffee was definitely on the stronger side, and I really liked that the matcha wasn't too sweet. I definitely want to come back and try some of their other drinks, and I thought the pricing was really fair too. The workers were super sweet and welcoming!
