Ok, so its not the finest of dining, but for a neighborhood desperately in need of better-than-chain restaurants, Pub 42 is awesome. I can forgive it for its occasional service fumbles, or the fact that their burgers are not the best of the best, because its relatively affordable, the atmosphere is comfortable, they're definitely family friendly, and the food is solidly good, if not REALLY good. I've brought my family, extended family, and friends there on occasion and no one has hated a meal and most have really enjoyed whatever they have ordered. I have not yet sat on the patio, but it looks lovely. I look forward to that soon. I will admit that some thing menu items are better than others. Some highlights: Spicy Shrimp Taco--they are a little too spicy for me so I have them put the two sauces on the side to mix to my spice liking. Not Your Mama's Deviled Eggs--as others have said, these are amazing. Its a must order every time and everyone who tries them are pleasantly surprised. The candied bacon is the star. Ribeye Grilled Cheese--everything you'd expect it would be! Reuben or Rachel--I have not tried these myself, but others say they are great. Baked Mac and Cheese--ridiculously good. NOTES: 1) The burgers are fair in my opinion, but my son and brother-in-law love them. 2) Parents--I don't remember if the kids mac and cheese is Kraft or not. Ask before ordering if that makes a difference to you (I hate paying restaurant prices for boxed mac and cheese). read more

I was trying to decide whether to give this 2 or 3 stars and I asked myself, "would I ever recommend that someone go here?" and "Would I ever go back?" The answer to both, unfortunately, is no. The place can't decide if it's a bar or a sit down restaurant. The hostesses seemed lost and stole our popcorn from us when we didn't sit in the bar, it was just a confounding start to our lackluster meal. The service was mediocre, complete with repeatedly badgering us for our ID's. The only thing that had any flavor on my burger was the bacon (and who could mess that up). I got the double blue cheese burger and I could see what was apparently blue cheese dressing, but it was completely void of any taste whatsoever. The coleslaw was literally like eating crunchy air - I found myself wondering what the hell the point of making myself fatter with this stuff was?? Eh, where do I start? First off, the food sucks. Do not get the onion rings- just don't. And their happy hour specials are a joke when it comes to the apps. Second, if you come in an hour before they close the staff makes you feel like you are wasting their time. Third- and this takes the icing - we literally watched our waitress pull the bag of trash out of the can, push it down, tie it, and then grab our drinks from the bar and serve them to us. Gross. Both my husband and I had the old fashioned pub burger with cheese. Very juicy meat, a little greasy but not so much to where you are using a napkin every time you take a bite. The homemade chips were pretty good too. I don't usually finish a whole burger at a restaurant but I finished this one because it was delicious. The tap beer we had was also nice and cold. It was much better service and food than the old sunshine factory. We vowed never to go back to the factory and are not planning on trying the "new" factory. So Pub 42 is the type of restaurant we've been missing in the area. We will definitely go back. read more

Sunday, 6/3 Had a nice lunch, and then proceeded to walk to the parking lot where maintenance was being performed (lines were being resprayed while customers vehicles were in the parking lot). It was windy and overspray did not seem to be a concern. I went back inside to approached management with the concern and he blatantly said; "I don't give a fuck". I have never had an experience like that at any restaurant. He actually didn't care one bit about anyones property but his own. I have lived in this neighborhood for 30+ years, and have watched this establishment change ownership from Sunshine Factory to Pub 42. Great food and service but very poor management/ownership. Hopefully, residents in New Hope chose somewhere else to eat. read more

Stopped in for lunch, sat at the bar. Rob the bartender is highly personable. Talked me into the Italian sandwich lunch special, it was meaty and delicious. Enjoyed it with a tap beer (Hemp Pilsner) from my favorite brewery - Gull Dam Brewing. Next time I must try the shrimp tacos. Love this place! read more

I am surprised only 3 star average. I went here years ago when it was the Sunshine Factory. It is so much better as Pub 42. Great menu, nice seating area, busy but manageable bar, popcorn excellent beer menu. The menu was great. Specials all looked very enticing. I got the millionaire burger and almost ordered a second. I was stuffed but it was so good. We had our 1 year olds with us and the wait staff was very helpful with them. High chairs, crayons, sippy cups, etc. If you haven't been here, I highly recommend you stop in for a beer and something delicious. I will be back next time I am in New Hope. read more

The atmosphere is warm and welcoming soon as you walk in. Our server cassy was amazing and she gave us amazing service. The food was great and the wings are the best I've had in a while. There was a fellow who's brother passed away a little while ago and he pays it forward. He paid our tab and it made me and my wife cry. He asked for two things "pay it forward and always be kind to people" as a kitchen manger and being in the industry this was a fantastic experience. Love this place. I will be back again. read more

We have had a good breakfast here before so we thought we'd stop for some good food - not a good decision today. Ordered two omelettes- bacon, spinach, mushroom and Swiss and ham, cheese and mushroom-20 minutes later we receive a ham, bacon, mushroom and cheddar and a spinach mushroom and Swiss - all toppings on top of what looked like a plain egg frittata folded in half and burnt - I could barely eat it - hash browns were barely warmed and tasted like dehydrated potatoes - we got comped $6 just over half the price of one omelette- on a good note and the only reason for three stars and not two - beer was cold and good and bloodys were good and cheap! read more

However, for Happy Hour - several times I have asked what food is discounted for HH & different waitresses has said everything under the "starters" category; which I find to be untrue when I get my bill. I'll pay the full price, but when several waitresses has said the same thing and the outcome is otherwise, I'm confused. Service wasn't all that great even when it was quiet in the bar and dining area. I try not to let that bother me, but if you're having a hard day, working for tip and we are not jerks, don't treat us like that. Also, their alfalfa sprouts on their deviled eggs were partially yellow. The chips for the Tuna Poke were cold (last time I had them, they were hot) and the avocado was bruised. Had I paid HH price, I wouldn't be complaining. The tuna tasted fresh otherwise. The portion also has seemed to slim down. I probably will not visit this place much anymore. ---------------------- I go here at least once a month. I have always had great experiences here except when I ordered for pickup to go (an order of chicken wings). I ordered then picked up 20 minutes later (they said 15-20 minutes when I called from home; which I did wait). My order was not completed when I arrived. I waited for an additional 30 minutes. Luckily, I like this establishment a lot! They're food is always pleasing! I have gone there from the beginning and have tried a lot of their dishes! I love their deviled eggs, burgers, and most importantly, the chicken wings. If you like a comfort food, their meatloaf is soooooo good! I had that months ago... Their menu changes, so be aware! It's not a bad thing though! Had their Tuna Poke and for the price is right! It's so fresh and I love the touch of the wonton chips!! The onion rings are HUGE!! Been here a few times since it changed to Pub 42, and the food is delicious. The portions are big and I've been impressed with both the quality and the menu selections. Yes, they DO have steak. I had an amazing prime rib grilled cheese sandwich there last week. It was a nice slab of prime rib with lots of gooey white cheddar on sourdough bread- yum!! Our hockey team frequents this place after a lot of our games in the north metro; always decent, but seems to have gotten better since they became Pub 42 rather than the old Sunshine Factory. Pretty much all the food I've tired has been good, and in particular the apps are a great deal, esp at Happy Hour. The best among them, the Maple Glazed Bacon Donut Holes! They're just as they sound, they're huge, and they're amazing. Good burgers, wings, and pretty much all other standard bar fare. Speaking of which, all the activity seems to be at the large, centrally located bar in the back, with very friendly servers. I'm def not a regular up there but with the occasional hockey game (New Hope Arena is around the corner) we have plenty of time to kill prior to games or during tournaments and this has been our go to. The food is awesome, the beer list appealing, and the staff is amazingly accommodating. We've flooded that place many a time and even if they're already slammed, they still make it, effortlessly, happen. Anyone else who says differently is obviously drunk. Brand new breakfast menu... The flavors are there, but the execution still needs some tweaking. I ordered the French Toast. Thick slices of cinnamon swirl bread. Downside was that it wasn't cooked long enough and it was still pretty doughy in the middle. Also,the butter was ice cold and rock hard. My husband had biscuits and gravy. Gravy was very good, but the serving was pretty stingy, just enough to cover the biscuit and nothing more. The biscuit had good flavor, but dense as a hockey puck. It was too bad there wasn't enough gravy to soak in and soften it. My son ordered the pineapple pancakes. He loved them. A thin slice of pineapple was cooked into the pancakes, allowing it to soften and caramelize. Yum. All in all, great start. My wife and I have been steady customers for decades and have only good things to say about PUB 42, until a few days ago. Rob (bryce) the manager was rude, dismissive, confrontational and not professional when I had to send back two (2) separate dished because they were both uneatable. The manager handled the situation in a manner that Wags the owner, or even Vinnie would find distasteful. Next time you get bad food and Rob is the floor manager I would suggest you just pay the bill and not return again. read more

The food here is awesome. I've been here a few times in the last couple weeks and every time, the staff has been great and managers are super friendly. The lady who makes the omelettes during the sunday morning brunch is probably the nicest person I've ever been served by. They had karaoke last week, I think on Tuesday night and the singers were great and the sound system the guy had was amazing, wasn't too loud either. Family friendly? Someone told me this place was "good" and Yelp said it was kid friendly. I brought my son in for dinner Friday night 6pm. The bar was bustling and very loud. Which is fun if thats what you want. It looked like more a tavern. The host tried to sit us in restaurant right next to the bar, but I wanted something quieter. I got it. The ambiance was weird. I sat in the restaurant and there were no kids, 95% of patrons were seniors. So... This wont go well with a kid who might make a noise or something. I ordered kraft mac n cheese for my son which was $6. No sides or anything offered. He liked it, obvi. I ordered shrimp tacos with fries. I received a plate of food so huge, it was about three meals. Tacos were "tasty" but not anything I would go back for. Fries average. Server recommended special sour cream to dip, it was actually gross. I might go to the bar with my friends in future, but it was not good food. The only reason I can imagine its busy is for the bar or there is not a lot of competition around there. Service was fine but please do not get the prime rib unless you like medium or well. I ordered a "rare" cut on a Saturday at 7PM thinking they must have it available since they don't start serving until 5PM. Even if they didn't have rare, a heads up would have been appreciated so I could change my order. Nevertheless, I am not one to let food go to waste or complain much so I did not ask for something else as the flavor was enough to overcome the well done portions. Unfortunately, the asparagus I ordered in place of potato didn't make things any better and definitely left something to be desired. I think I have had green beans larger in size. These were definitely the worst I have ever had and they only served 5 or 6 straw sized pieces. Like I mentioned, the service was fine and the waitress did offer free bread for the poor food which actually was the best part of the meal. I have eaten here before and left happy but please be cautious of the prime rib and definitely do not order the asparagus. They should probably stick to burgers and bar food. read more

This was my second time going. We sat on the pub side. The server was pretty good. The food was pretty good but a bit overpriced. I had the walleye sandwich and it was ok but not worth $12. The baked macaroni was yummy but the arugula salad that came with it was salty and had WAY too much dressing on it. Loved the popcorn that the server brought over to the table when we first sat down. If I go back I will try the restaurant side side. I didn't check to see if there was a different menu over there. (Hopefully there is and it just isn't more bar food in a dressed up area of the building.) Over all it was pretty ok. I was excited to try this bar and grill, and was treated welcoming at the door as an employee opened it for me. However, as soon as I went in and sat at the bar I was completely ignored for 10 minutes. When someone finally came by and asked if I was helped, he was not very friendly. He gave me my drink and a menu and then never came back again. There was 2 bartenders and not that many at the bar. They paid attention to regulars and ignored everyone else. I sat for 30 minutes waiting for someone to come back and take my food order and it never happened. Eventually I flagged down the bartender to get my tab and headed to Applebee's. As my fiancé was trying to lead us off the patio to leave, the outside bartender slammed her hand down on the bar and told him we can't order drink out here we have to go inside! Fiancé told her we are just trying to find the exit to leave, with the same attitude she told there is an exit but we have to go thru inside to get out. So he asked her "what's with the attitude? We are just trying to leave!". The situation escalated and, words were exchange. After that she sucked on her middle finger and flicked us off, and mouthed out F*** off. As we were leaving, we made a comment about "wow, great customer service!", she got on the bar and shook her butt at us!
