A group of us met at Pub 44 for lunch and beers after a bit of shopping at the Alderwood Mall. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Pub 44 is a true dive bar; 21+ only allowed. A variety of entertainment choices can be made; darts, pool tables, pull tabs and TVs. Large parties can be easily accommodated. Happy Hour is offered Monday-Friday from 3pm-7pm and Saturday-Sunday from open-7pm. Pub 44 offers a nice selection of craft beer, standard domestic beers, hard cider, wine and a full bar. There's bound to be something for everyone. Food menu is modest, listing typical bar grub. During our visit, table service was not offered due to a staff shortage. All drink and food requests were performed at the bar. I had a couple Trickster IPAs for $5.25 (hh) and my wife has a couple Manny's for $5.25 (hh). My wife ordered the Chicken Strips for $10.50 (hh). She stated they were gristly and didn't eat them. I ordered the Nachos for $12 (hh). At first I was impressed; however, it only took a few bites to realized that the toppings we inadequate for the amount of chips provided. We wasted this meal also. Overall, a decent place to drop into for a quick beer. I wouldn't waste money on the food again.

Came here for drinks only. This place has been here a long time. The bartender (a very nice gentleman) has worked there for almost 30 years which shows they take care of their employees (which is nice to see). From what I hear the place hasn't changed a bit in a few decades but does have an "add on" section which is large and light. It looks like it was just an extension of another section in the building. unlike their cozy "ship" area (which I thought was neat). It is a true dive bar. I didn't order food but it looked and smelled good while coming out of the kitchen. The place was quite busy for the middle of a Sunday, and it was filled with regulars. Parking is not an issue here. As for activities, they have plenty of pool tables as well as a row of dart boards. Plenty of seating for large groups as well. Not sure if they play music but they have a good sized dance floor.

    This place has COCKROACHES

This place has cockroaches. I am a regular customer and come atleast 5 times per month. There was one crawling on my table. I told the server about it and asked if they had an infestation. She told me yes they do and they spray for them but they will not go away and there is nothing they can do. They will be knocking the building down in a year anyways. I trapped the one on my table under my drink and told her i am not sure what she wants me to do about it. THE SERVER LIFTED THE CUP AND THREW THE LIVE COCKROACH BACK ON THE FLOOR....THEN SAID IM SORRY ABOUT THAT AND WALKED AWAY. THIS IS A BABY COCKROACH. IF THERE IS ONE THERE ARE THOUSANDS. PROBABLY IN THE FOOD!!!!! I WILL NEVER COME BACK.

Wow this bar is awful. Dive bar without cheap drinks. Terrible service, worse drinks. Avoid.

We went across the alley to where other folks seemed to be congregating and hung out just fine until almost everyone else had left--we were approached by someone who yelled at us at full volume and told us we were retards, and that they were going to call the cops on us if we didn't leave immediately. This was at 9:00pm. If you wanna take a chance at this place, go for it, for me and all my "hoodlum friends and family" we will NEVER be returning.

Especially that one dude... I have a friend, well not really a friend, more like an acquaintance. This guy is always in some sort of trouble, never has a drivers license but is always driving a beater anyway. The kind of dude that will bend over backwards to help you out but you're kind of worried he's also casing the joint while he's helping. Anyways, this guy asked me if I'd help him get some stuff out of his storage unit. He's behind on payments and doesn't want it auctioned off. "Bring your truck and we'll be done in a jiffy" ( this is back when I had a truck so probably early 2000s ) I swing over to the dive he's living in to pick him up. He's talking my ear off about some ridiculous Jerry Springer show type behavior and the sudden realization hits me... am I assisting in some sort of criminal offense? Are we on our way to rob a storage unit? I'm honestly scared, my heart is racing, I'm calculating my exit strategy if this looks to sketchy. Trying to keep my cool, I start tiptoeing around what he's going to do with the stuff we're saving from auction. He claims he has a better spot at "his old lady's moms place" I can't make this shit up! As we pull into the storage place I noticed all the cameras, oh man, I'm about to be on the worlds dumbest criminals. The dude tells me the code for the gate, from memory, okay I am feeling slightly better. We drive down the main aisle, take a left, and halfway down this row is his door. Well the door that opens the hall that has about 6 doors in it. The first key doesn't work. Beads of sweat form on my temples. The second key he tries doesn't even fit the padlock. Christ almighty I'm stressed. He pops in the third key, click. The lock opens. He reaches into his back pocket and grabs a small flashlight. He opens up the door and shines the light around the closet, relief floods my body. There's absolutely no way this shit belongs to anybody else but the guy I'm with! We cleared what he felt was important and didn't bother to lock up the rest. So like I was saying, everyone was feeling good, especially that dude in the corner that totally reminded me of my derelict buddy. The nerves were calmed and I recorded a great episode of the GoodTalkJosh podcast!

We slurped on a pint of Deschutes King Crispy Pilsner for $6.75 each. The staff and regulars were unwelcoming; not a single smile was offered or seen during our visit. It's just the right vibe, the drinks are strong, and the bartenders are attentive and nice. My grandma also likes this bar and she doesn't drink but she likes to go here for her birthday which typically happens to be on Super Bowl Sunday. They never complain about her coming in early to "set up" a table and they never make her feel weird which I really appreciate because I mean she brings like board games and stuff to a bar and doesn't drink so it is a bit odd but glad the staff make her feel welcome. Even on Super Bowl Sunday, the staff checks on us like every 10 minutes, no matter how busy it is. They don't pressure you to get a drink or food but they do offer which is also something I very much appreciate. Aside from all of this, I once had someone tell me this place has the best clam chowder and I was thinking "......? Ew?? Clam chowder from a bar??" Well I still have never tried the chowder, but I can tell you the Ruben is fire and you should definitely get one. I like mine dipped in au jus. I can say that the vibe/customers inside can vary, since I don't go as frequently it may have changed but there's definitely regulars as well as people from different age ranges. They've got a nice dart set up, lots of seating, pool tables, and a very large bathroom (good mirror to take pictures in the ladies room) Definitely don't pass this place up if you're looking for a good sandwich, nice bartenders, chill vibes, and good drinks. I would recommend coming around like 9 or 10 because parking can fill up, but typically you can still find a spot to squeeze into even if you get there later. I have started and ended my night here and never regretted it lol
