One issue is they need to have on reserve 2-3 dollies over the dollies assigned through out the facility in case someone uses assigned dollies for loading or unloading trucks which will minimize the time lost by customers waiting for this activities. Over the holiday, I learned that a friend's locker at the HOOKSTON PLEASANT HILL had been emptied by thieves. Throughout the entire process the property manager didn't care to help resolve the situation and instead put my friend through three days of emotionally hell: his families' ashes were in the locker too. Not until Friday morning did the friend discover it was not his locker after all, but another locker. However, my friend came to a horrific realization: although PUBLIC STORAGE claims the premises are secure and monitored by SURVEILLANCE, Pleasant Hill Police confirmed that is false, and there is only one camera for the entire location: at the front gate. Therefore, if someone breaks into your locker, your stuff is gone and no way to help capture the culprit. The insurance takes the hit and then the insurance rates go up. So I wouldn't recommend using PUBLIC STORAGE until they install cameras in all the buildings, hall ways, and everywhere in the buildings to TRULY offer is client's piece of mind for the $400 they charge for units now. read more

I've been a long time customer (10+ years) and recently upgraded to a larger unit. After 2-3 months in the new unit, my unit has been broken in to and my monthly rate has increased from $236 to $278. When I called to see if they could offer me a better rate for 6 months or so, I was told there was nothing that could be done. I asked to speak to a manager and was told they would not be able to help either. When I insisted, I was transferred to a voicemail. I've been happy to pay small increases over the period of time I have been a customer, but this seems excessive, unprofessional, and unhelpful. Be sure to ask about your rate for the next six months or a year before you make a decision to rent here. Also, this is not a reflection on the staff on-site as they seem to have no control in these matters. read more

This is the worst storage facility I've ever used. During the few months we had our boat stored there it was repeatedly vandalized and almost stolen. The boat was stored in their outside parking lot, north of the building. When I went to do some work on the boat it was clear that someone had been inside the boat. They had opened all the hatches and pulled out all the extra parts that were stowed. They had stolen one of the batteries and tipped the other battery on its side so that the water (essentially battery acid) got everywhere. The carpet near the battery compartment had to be replaced. Several hand tools stolen and lifejackets too. Also, someone had attempted to cut through the lock on the trailer. Luckily they didn't get very far. Thank goodness for our Masterlock pad lock. When we asked to see the security footage for the past week, they refused to show it to us. They said we would need a court order to see the video footage. Should it really be that hard to get help from the people with whom you are trusting your possessions. There was no compensation because as they pointed out, the contract that was signed releases them from all liability. Do not store your valuables here. They are untrustworthy. And you stuff will not be safe. read more

The staff is completely clueless when it comes to customer service. The district manager did not return multiple phone calls requesting assistance. The office is not email or fax friendly. Phone calls or snail mail is the only communications systems that work. Completely incompetent. read more

Terrible experience at this location. Priceless family grandfather clock was stolen, and there's no chance for insurance recovery. I received a call from Public Storage asking me if everything was ok with my unit, because another customer notified them that her lock was tampered with. I stopped by to check on my unit, and my lock was replaced with another similar lock. Public Storage management had to come and remove the unknown lock, and we opened my unit to discover that my personal property had been stolen. They told me to call the insurance company (paid for insurance through Public Storage because they said it was required). First, I filed a police report. Then I called the insurance company and was provided a claim form, but it requires proof of ownership and records to support values. That's understandable, but those records don't exist for most property passed down from family. My family's 60+ year old grandfather clock and other expensive furniture items were stolen, and nothing is recoverable because I don't have records to support the values. Lesson learned and a warning to all customers thinking about using this location. I'm not sure if there's collusion with Public Storage personnel or another renter, but I believe it was a current renter who stole my property. Someone was able to obtain access codes to get into the storage building (requires 2 different passcodes) and remove other people's property from locked units. I'm sure this happens all the time; if there is no security (no cameras in the buildings) then this is easy money for thieves. Be careful if you plan to store at this location. read more

I have been a return customer for over 15 years at this particular Public Storage. It is close and convenient to my home and business. I'm haven't written before because the service I received was pretty poor to average but the customer service team they have in there now is so friendly and accommodating I wanted to acknowledge them..I recently had my card info hijacked and had to get a new card sent to me and forgot all the auto pays including Public Storage. They gave me a reminder call and helped me set everything up with my new card without being rude or critical of the situation..thanks ladies...it's a pleasure! read more

I haven't started to use my unit yet - but Kevin was so incredibly friendly and helpful - he made the stressful moving process much easier! He took a ton of time to explain different options and to make sure I was getting the right unit for my needs. The units are nicer than some other locations because they are all above ground and for same size square footage as other places - you get more room because of much higher ceilings(vs units that are downstairs). So far - good experience! read more

I went into this public storage to inquire pricing of storage sizes that were available. I was very displeased with the service, when I walked in the lady at the front counter continued to look down and did not bother to greet me. The lady in the back asked what I needed help with and I got help there. I later found out that the one in front was the property manager. I find this redundant that the manager could be this rude. Today 8/22/2014 i came into public storage on hookston. I was interested in purchasing. A 10x20 storage unit. A young man by the name of Anthony helped me out. He asked me what i storing and suggested the 10x20 unit for my needs. The property is huge and im a older man so i thought we were gonna have to walk a little distance, but Anthony told me hop in the golf cart. I thought "how convenient " and that was my little excitement for the day. Anthony was so helpful and answered my questions and the rental process was really quick. do not store here.... i have a rv trailer that has been broken into twice...they do not have security cameras and is easy to hop the back and side walls. the place is a joke. spoke to the lady at the front desk to report the break in and she did not even ask what space # is or my name. did not even offer to report it the police. left a message for the manager, cody pashutani 916-567-1041 and have not heard back. they do not care about your property. they only want to collect the rent. shame on you public storage. read more
