Every trip to the Fox requires a trip to PDH prior to the show. Great menu and a pretty rad and vast selection of spirits. Service is always on point-- staff works seamlessly together and it shows in quality. Gets a little crowded during prime times before/after shows, they take reservations-- but we've always been 'walk-ins' and never had a long wait at all. Pretzel with beer cheese is heaven. read more

It's interesting to look out the window when dining here right before a Fox Theatre event to see the crowd but the meal was not good. I ordered a lamb burger and sweet potato fries. I came here for lunch and drinks with six others and really enjoyed it. They have tons of beer on tap, but I opted for a bloody mary. It was spicy and well made. I had the caesar salad, which can run you $15-$16 if you add meat to it. The ambiance is casual cool and laid back. It's a cool spot and very convenient if you're staying at the Georgian Terrace. Falafel is a bit soft like a veggie burger but falafel isn't supposed to be soft. Falafel is usually firm not mushy. Others didn't like it on ciabotta bread but I like that bread so I'm ok with that but I wouldn't order it again. Nice bartenders. Would definitely come back and try something else. I'm digging the Publik Draft House. I was in town for NYE weekend and stayed at a hotel across the street. We were looking for a place to eat that wasn't too expensive, nothing too fancy, and a few beers. Publik Draft House met all of that criteria! Large variety of beers, wines, and other cocktails. The fish and chips was pretty solid. By far, the best thing on the menu is the sweet potato fries. They have a touch of cinnamon and just melt in your mouth. We ended up here, to watch the World Cup match on a Saturday afternoon... (How we ended up here is a long story, details of which I won't bore you with). The Place: First off, the nicest thing about this place is the location. Easy to find, and really comfortable on the inside. Nice interior with good seating arrangements, in and around the bar - you can face the two screens in the bar area, or have a great view of the foot traffic outside (people going to the Fox), which is rare to find in Atlanta. Makes you want to stay for awhile... Good for a group meet'n'drink, or to kill time before the show. Even a decent sports spot (but only 2 screens). The Service: Pretty good and attentive. No complaints at all. The Food/Drinks: Here's where things get muddy. They weren't serving any plates during the mid afternoon, so I had to settle for apps (Popcorn Shrimp was an abomination, and the Fries were the crinkled kind that come in bags at the supermarket. WTF?)... Had enough choices on tap to satisfy most, as well as a larger list of bottled beers. The Crowd: Mind you, we all met up here to watch the World Cup. Therefore, its probably not the typical crowd. But guessing from those coming and going, there probably is not a "typical" crowd here. If I had to guess, I'd say local midtowners (young and well-employed), grad students at Tech, suburbanites coming to the Fox, as well as a few tourists... Nice vibe, friendly, a place where strangers will chat. The Skinny: Between here and Churchill Grounds, a good meet-up spot before or after a show at the Fox, but nothing special enough to go out of your way for. Scoring free parking in the area is turning out to be more of a challenge in a cash-strapped city... Would give this place a higher rating, except that the food was a real downer for a place with such potential. read more

Stopped in for a quick meal after a show at the Fox. We were seated upstairs which doesn't have the same feel and vibrancy as downstairs. We tried the shrimp and grits and duck quesadilla. Both had good flavor but was nothing spectacular. Perhaps the other reviews set my shrimp and grits expectations a bit too high. The grits were on the heavy side and I felt there should be more gravy to eat with the grits. The duck quesadilla was good but the unique taste seemed to get lost with the pico. It's good to balance the sweetness but cilantro can easily dominate a dish. I have to note that the table was sticky and the upstairs bathroom was less than desirable. Felt like an employee bathroom, not one you want your customers to see. And to support my theory, I almost walked in on an employee since he failed to close the door and lock it. Despite being upstairs, the service was great. Our server was pleasant and attentive. Though we parked at the Fox, it's good to know that two hour validated parking is available at The Georgian Terrace Hotel. read more

Went here on a recent Thursday for lunch - large crowd of us (12) were seated upstairs. Drinks/orders quickly taken, and the food delivery was timed pretty well with the number of diners. I opted for the Cuban press sandwich with fries (probably not the best thing to keep you awake the afternoon that follows!), but I had relatively high hopes. Unfortunately, and it wasn't until I was well into the sandwich, that I realized the pork in the sandwich was VERY salty - almost brine salty. I thought it was that the fries were over-seasoned, but nope, it was the pork. Although edible and not worthy of a re-fire (besides, we were on limited time), I did mention it to our very pleasant waitress. Would like to try the bar area on a follow-up visit. read more

I really enjoyed going to Publik after dinner one random night. It is right next to the Theater, so it might be hard to find parking, but it's worth looking around. The bar itself is really clean and nice inside. Service is spot on and the beer selection is GREAT. Some beers are pricier than others, but coming from NYC everything seemed cheap to me! The husband and I headed down to Publik Draft House last week to blow off a little work-related steam and while we really wanted to fall in love with this place, we found ourselves making excuses for their overall poor showing. The inside is nice, with a low key vibe. There is an upstairs and a downstairs. We were sat in the upstairs area and were not overly impressed with the atmosphere. The way the upstairs is arranged made us speculate if it turns into a club late night? We started with the corn and crab fritters, which we were awesome and the burger and sweet potato fries, which were not so awesome. While we really applaud Publik giving information on where they procure their beef, the burger was on the small side and the fries were soggy. As a place that is touting themselves as a draft house, they certainly didn't have a wide variety of draft beers. And (not sure if we hit them on a bad day) they were out of almost all of their draft beers and several of their craft brew bottles; although our server was fairly knowledgeable and able to make sound recommendations. We also summoned up enough bravado to dance with the Green Fairy and ordered off their Absinthe menu. The presentation was on point and the service was as it should have been, with ice cold water and sugar cube included. Both their beer menu and their Absinthe service were well priced for the selection and they even have a "Publik Draft" which was Keystone Light for $2...although I am not a Keystone Light drinker and didn't venture out to a DRAFT HOUSE for a gas station beer. Publik has hooked up with Scoutmob and is offering a 50% off deal, but buyer beware as the discount is only up to $15. But we ended up parking across the street and had to pay $10, so there went that discount. Overall, I got the impression that Publik wants to be on a competitive level with the other gastropubs in the area but their performance was seriously lacking. read more

I've been here several times over the past few years and enjoy it every time. I honestly didn't expect the food to be good when I first visited. It just seems like a good beer spot, but not necessary a good place to eat. However, I was surprised. The food is good every time and there is a great selection of beers (as well as liquor if you're not a beer drinker). The location is also fantastic (right in the middle of midtown). PDH is a good place to go for dinner before a show at the Fox. Originally, I tried to make reservations, but since they were "booked," now I know it's because there are few tables they can reserve. You are much better off wandering in hours before a show. Plus, the wait staff is aware how many people dine here to catch a show, so they're very prompt and still courteous. House Burger: This was kind of meh. Not much flavoring on the patty and it probably could have used a little more salt/pepper. However, it was cooked to order of how I wanted it: medium. Instead of fries, I substituted with their mac and cheese for an additional $3. It was ok, but then afterwards, I realized how much oil/grease there was in here and it didn't have that Gouda-cheese I thought there would be. Maybe a tad better than your standard mac and cheese and the portion is VERY generous, but not something I would get again. Impressive beer and cocktail list. I mean, you kinda have to here because people want to catch a drink before/after a show. PDH is one of those restaurants I wouldn't go out of my way for, but I'd come back if I needed a choice in the area. Food The food is all pretty good. The lamb burger is great (only if you like goat cheese because they are generous). The fries are probably some of the best in Atlanta. The drinks are all delicious and its a great place to grab drinks with coworkers after work. Service Sometimes the service has been a bit off but that isn't the norm. Usually very accommodating to people who need to finish lunch quickly to get back to work. The food comes out fast as well. Atmosphere There are two levels and I have only ever sat outside or downstairs. Tables fit 6 people. Eating outside is a bit strange since they don't have a door and the servers have to go through the back door. The service wasn't as good since it was harder for them to check on us. And without shade it's getting a bit hot to eat outdoors in Atlanta. Overall experience A graleaf place for lunch and drinks. Food is overall good (burgers, sandwiches, salads). They have a trivia night but because of the layout of the restaurant l can't it would be a great experience.. read more

How do you review a restaurant that has decent food, but is run terribly. I brought 3 friends here for a meal before a show at the Fox. We arrived on a Saturday at 12:30. The restaurant was fairly full, but 2 tables for two were available. The hostess said there were no tables available unless we wanted to sit outside (on the sidewalk, in the sun, at noon, with crowds swirling about, trying to get to the theatre - no thank you). I pointed out that there were 2 two tops available inside and that we were willing to split our group, as we wanted to be sure we had time (an hour and a half) for a leisurely meal before the show. Our waiter was very busy, but finally came to out table and took the order. We both ordered the James Beard hamburger. He never asked us if we wanted to drink anything other than the water he had brought. Then we sat back and waited . . .and waited . . . and waited. Our waiter stopped by from time to time to reassure us that our food would be coming out soon, but after 45 minutes, I finally asked the hostess to please check on our order. She went to check on our food and came back and said that, you guessed it, our food would be out soon. I then heard about the small kitchen, the decision to keep seating people even when there were already customers waiting for their meal, and of course, apologies. A full hour after we sat down, we finally got our meal. It turned out to be a great burger, slapped with potato chips on top of the meat and grated cheese falling out the sides. Probably the most unattractive plate that I've been served in a restaurant EVER. As we hurriedly ate our meal, we asked for the check and our waiter told us that the manager had given us a 15% discount (really???) We gave our waiter our credit cards to expedite the purchase. When he returned, he left the slips, thanked us for our patience and walked away. That is when we realized that one of our credit cards was missing. I had to stop another waitress to get her to get our waiter to find my card. The waiter and the manager came over and just looked perplexed. As it happens, my other two friends had finished their meal and left to stand in line at the theatre. One came back to get the tickets and we told him of our dilemma. He said that he had seen a waiter drop a credit card on the floor, and he had pointed it out to another waiter, who gave it to the bartender. If my friend had not come in, the staff would probably still be looking for my card. I've eaten here in years past, but I can assure you that this trip was the last one. Oh, and don't hold your breath about the James Beard burger contest, folks. Mine was half raw in the middle. read more

Came for dinner and arrived 20 minutes before my guest so I could get the table, order a drink and out appetizers. They wouldn't seat me until the other person showed up. Then wouldn't let me sit at a table for 1 when requested since bar was full which would work perfect since there are two chairs at every table. All I wanted to do was enjoy a drink, apps and a meal yet I had to wait and they made the process difficult. Then, 20 minutes later when guest arrived, all tables were taken so we had to wait longer. Publik is right down the block from me, so it's one of my go-to places. Everything is pretty solid on the menu and they have a long beer list and several on tap. The place is pretty noisy throughout the week. But if you're meeting someone for a bite, try the upstairs seating and you might have an easier time hearing your friend talk. I've tried a few things on the menu - burgers and the apple walnut salad - and they were all good. The last time I had the apple walnut salad and was thoroughly pleased. I usually love anything fried, but I wish the chevre croquettes were just crumbled chevre on top. The fried batter was a slightly overpowering the other flavors in the salad. The creaminess of the chevre paired nicely with acidity in the salad though. I'll definitely be back here again and again since its so close to my apartment. read more

About a month ago, I met up with a friend of mine at the bar. It happened to be a Wednesday night, which only meant... KARAOKE night. OK, I am NOT the biggest fan of karaoke bars, but my friend was really into it, so here we go. The crowd was almost dead, few tables. I suppose they had some regulars singing, and then the staff got involved, WHICH WAS FANTASTIC! the security guy singing natalie imbruglia's torn = epic. Last night, I met up with my friend again and we went back, and the scene was completely different. Due to the fact that there was a show at the fox theatre (i believe it was Phantom of the opera), it was crowded... We took a seat close to the tv to watch rest of the baseball game and felt so welcomed when the server remembered us from a month ago wednesday karaoke night. Not sure what made him remember us, and to mention it, but I definitely felt welcomed. OK my friend wasn't too happy because the drinks took 4 innings. He ordered a beer, and I ordered a mojito... We visited this joint a couple weekends ago on a fling. We saw that they offered absinthe on the menu which was a draw; if nothing else but to say they offer absinthe. Clearly, a draw for the bar scene as the menu is very limited with an offering of hamburgers and a few vegetarian options. Nevertheless, the food was actually good and the absinthe a hit (with me at least). The Falafel Burger was quite good and the Cajun Seasoned Fries were yummy. I can only comment on the Sunday fun day happy hour drinks, the atmosphere, and the service. I will say that our group had a good time and we will go back. Located on the edge of midtown, and connected to the Fox, this place is on the corner with lots of windows and light. There is both an upstairs and a patio so depending on the weather and your mood you can choose the sun soaked down stairs, a large patio, or a more private up stairs. The carafe sized mimosas were priced around $15, for the area this seemed to be on the less expensive side by an average of $5. The drinks themselves did not skimp when it came to the alcohol. In true midtown fashion the drinks were made to party. The only unpleasant experience, and it's really minor, is that my glass smelled like old stale beer but after a couple mimosas I didn't care and my immune system was cleansed by the alcohol; that's a thing right? I once had a hot fresh cookie fall on the floor of Elise Island and I rubbed the top layer of the cookie off and had a double shot of vodka afterwards and I didn't get sick. The moral of the story here is alcohol is a cure all. The service I thought was great. Our waitress was extremely polite and friendly and when we were originally sat next to another loud group she moved us without hesitation or complaint. There weren't a lot of people there at 2pm and happy hour ended at 3 so that may have been a factor. The manager that day was very cool. In fact, once we started talking to him he actually let us decide our own ratio or champagne to OJ. We went with 90/10 (sorry OJ). Like I said, it was a fun place to go on Sunday for happy hour but the do stop promptly at 3. They also ran out of champagne so that might not always be the case. read more

The goods: atmosphere, pre-mixed and interesting drinks (the Elderflower Sparkler, the Red Moon and the Lychee Martinin were delish), simple menu with comfortable choices (had the goat cheese fritter salad, would like to have a more hearty option next time), lots of beer on draft, large windows for people watching on Peachtree, quick bar service, not too "Fox crowded" (get my drift...) The ugh-I-guess-I'll-deal-with-it: parking, parking, parking. It's Midtown, on the corner of P-tree and Ponce so you know that means pay lots. There is no valet and on a night when there's a show at the Fox (last night--my first visit--there was a show at the Fox) that translates to high parking fees at lots that don't accept restaurant validation. Boo to parking, but you really shouldn't let that deter you from visiting. **Update on the parking: the Georgian Terrace validates up to 1 hour! Overall: I'll return to Publik with friends again! read more

Had a fantastic experience here. We were driving through Atlanta to get to Alabama for my grandmother's funeral during the week that Atlanta was basically shut down because of how bad the ice on the roads was. We got into the city around 8pm and could not find anywhere that wasn't closing as we got there. Except for Publik House. We had to wait a few minutes for a table but the staff were very friendly and helpful the entire time. Fantastic beer selection. Probably the best cocktails I've ever had (something pumpkin and their publik house cocktail were both incredible). Great quality of food. I had shrimp and grits that was wonderful. Crab fitters were super yummy. But the best part was our lovely waiter. I don't remember what his name was but he was so sweet to us when we were so tired, hungry and saddened over the loss of a close family member. He took such wonderful care of us and even took care of our desserts for us. I will remember this place fondly and be sure to return the next time I am in Atlanta! read more

Went here on Saturday night with my husband before a 7:30 movie at the Fox Theatre right next door. Can't believe we've lived so close for almost a year and have never been to Publik before, it's a really great place for drinks and bar food that doesn't feel like bar food. We ordered beer from their pretty extensive beer list and the prices weren't too far off what other places around town charge, which surprised us since we'd heard Publik can be a little pricey. We just ordered apps to eat, the fries and curried sweet potato wontons. Beware the wontons are pretty spicy and my mouth was burning by the end of them. Thankfully the mango chutney they come with is delicious and refreshing, I wanted to ask for more of it! It wasn't very crowded when we went, but I'm sure it gets a lot more crowded late at night. We'll definitely come here again and try out a few more dishes on the menu. read more

I was staying across the street at the Georgian Terrace on business for 3 weeks. I must have come to this place with my coworkers at least a half a dozen times during my stay. Their food is tasty and the drinks are great too. If you're feeling adventurous, just ask the bartender to make you something "interesting". Its a good place to grab a bite before or after taking in a show at the Fox next door. They also have their own live entertainment on certain nights. read more

Our server was great! However, she suggested the Calamari, which is what we wanted, and came back to tell us they were out. We had the cheese slate, and the Kansas steak.
