    CRUNCHY taco!

My CRISPY taco meal. I opened as soon as I got home because I was starving! I live less than 3 miles away.. Also ordered a wet burrito and it was dry... I didn't realize a wet burrito could be dry burrito. The order of chips and salsa was good. :-/

The service was fast. Hostess let us pick where to sit and immediately got asked our drink choices and got chips and salsa, and a really big size of chips! We ordered and food came out in about 6 minutes. Very impressed! Prices were par and the food was great. I got the huevos con chorizo and he got the fajita lunch. Flavor was so good! Didn't have to add any spices or sauces. Definitely would go back! The expedition of everything made it a nice in and out stop!!

I was so excited to try this place since I had heard great reviews on both the Foodies of Chico Facebook page and on Yelp-- but what the heck?? I don't know if I had high hopes because of what I heard but damn, it was not impressive at all. My boyfriend and I shared the chicken nachos and shrimp fajita plate. The nachos were basic AF and there was some type of gross cream on it that just sat and made the bottom watery (we got the sour cream on the side so no, it was not melted sour cream). The chicken tasted like tuna to me, and there was not one tasty thing about it. We had MAYBE 3 nachos each and were over it. The shrimp fajitas were a tad bit better, but really just the actual fajita skillet that had the grilled onions, peppers, and the shrimp. I think, to be honest, the best part of the meal was the salsa that they give you with the chips. Their beans and rice were dry and meh. I'm super sad because I loveeeeee Mexican food and was super stoked to try this place, but I probably won't ever go back.

I was sober for 11 years before I stepped foot into this restaurant. The waiter mistakingly placed a pitcher of blackberry margarita on my table, and following a regretful bout with my ex wife Kelly I couldn't help myself but to drink the entire pitcher. Later in the night, drunken and ashamed, they actually had the nerve to ask ME to pay for it. Tonight is the third night I've spent alone in this motel room, and one of the last nights I think I have left before my credit card declines. Kelly I miss you. Please come back. Franz jr. I hope you know how much your father loves you.

If only the food quality matched the colorful place.

Salsa a mediocre, somewhat disappointing serving for such well regarded establishment. Certainly in the lower tier of the well loved quality Salsas. 2 Stars. Chips plain average. 2 Stars. Lunch menu, Chili Relleno and Crunchy Taco an uneventful fast lunch serving. Beans salty, the tiny presence of guacamole near frozen, Rice a little better. Dull and uninspiring offering. 3 Stars. House Carnitas, boasting of being home made, long ways for upper placement. Chewy, while also managing to be dried, back to Carnitas 101. At best 3 Stars. Soda bottle ($3.50) water drinkable. Place looked colorful, service adequate. Someone extremely kind and nice suggested this place, a little hard to tell her how mediocre everything was. Total with gratuity way past $60. By reading the reviews of this place, expectations were met by reality, and let's just say it did not pan out. So this place merits 4.3 Stars on average? I respectfully disagree. 3 Stars.

Good service by our server Vicky and others. Nice free thin, crisp, fresh tasting chips brought right away to our table and came with salsa that was good (although for my taste buds could have used a little bit less salt). Cheese Chili Relleno was really awesome. Actually one of the best Chili Rellenos I've ever enjoyed in my 72 years on this planet and I'll definitely will be coming back for many more of them assuming they're consist. Delicious: $3.75 Chicken Tostada was flavorless however as I see it to make up for that (I suppose I ought to have put some of their salsa on it) it had a major amount of shredded chicken on it. $3.00 I'll come back for that as well. Side order of Rice was ok, a bit dry or maybe slightly tired/old $2.50 That could just be a one time thing. Time will tell and so come check the rice out for yourself or wait for my review after I come back. :-) :-) Side order of Beans was good $2.50 If you order both a side order of rice and beans = $3.50 They have a decent selection of bottled beers including my Mexican favorite Negra Modelo at $3.75 which includes a lime and in a refrigerated heavy mug if you like.

A friend and I were headed to an MMA event just north of Oroville and needed a quick bite to eat,…read moreso pulled off and hit Yelp to find something good in the area. Vallarta Grill looked like a good option so we headed over. This was a Saturday evening (about 6pm)... they were busy, but had no trouble seating us within a couple minutes (the host had to duck out to clean the booth for us). The menu is very complete - lots of options! It was honestly tough to make a choice. I chose the Lamb Shank, which included an enchilada. I was given the choice of ground beef, shredded beef or chicken for the enchilada. I asked if I could somehow upgrade to a shrimp enchilada and was politely declined. My date chose the chile verde. I also ordered coconut shrimp as an appetizer. First up was the coconut shrimp - first impression: I was surprised at how "flat" they were! Obviously it was intentional, but flatter than anything I've seen or had before. I jokingly called them "road kill shrimp" and my date slapped me. They were good, though, and I understood and appreciated the reason(s) for flattening them - more surface area for the breading, even cooking and easy to scoop up the yummy sauce. Next up were the main dishes - the Lamb Shank was good... imo, I would have liked the sauce to be a little thicker, but the flavor was good. I really liked the enchilada too. I didn't have a ton of the rice and beans just because I normally don't eat much of that - but it was good, better than I've had elsewhere! I had a bite of my friend's chile verde too and give it a thumbs up. I love flan. I was full enough that I didn't need to order flan, but I couldn't leave without giving the flan a try. I'm glad I did! The flan was very good, some of the best I've had in a while. Overall, great meal and I wouldn't hesitate to drop by again if I was in the area.

The reason I didn't notice it was a small restaurant is because there is no signage other than by their takeout window! I am glad I stopped in with boyfriend and puppy in tow. Although the service was super slow it was worth it. We shared the carne asada burrito that had plenty of meat and rice and beans in it. The flavors were really good and no chewey or fatty meat inside. They do have inside seating but not pet friendly ( no outside seating). We took it to go and got back on the road. The burgers and milkshakes looked amazing ! The locals told me to call in the order ahead of time to eliminate long waits. Food was authentic and I will be back next time I drive through this area! I joined some friends for lunch and after deep diving the menu, I ordered the Al Pastor Super Burrito and added a fresh jalapeño. It was the game changer that turned a great burrito into the perfect meal, because I LOVE spicy. Everything stood out on this meal: The Balance: It's rare to find a burrito where the meat, veggies, rice, and sauce are in such perfect proportion. Every bite was consistent. The Al Pastor: The seasoning on the pork was spot on, and the added heat from the jalapeño provided that perfect kick to cut through the richness. This was not marinated in store bought adobo. The Tortilla: Often overlooked, but the consistency here was perfect, strong enough to hold everything together without being gummy or overly thick. The interior has that classic, rustic wood-paneled vibe that makes you feel like you're in a true community staple. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch at the counter or sitting in one of the booths, the atmosphere is exactly what you want from a neighborhood spot. The owner was there crafting the perfection. He is happy to adjust to your taste. This is high-quality, honest food. I'll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu. A Marc Tip: Definitely add that jalapeño to your burrito it adds a fresh heat that elevates the whole experience.
