11/20/24 - My wife and stopped @ Pueblo Nuevo last night to heap a bite to eat & visit w/our old friend Lulu & her daughter Jocelyn. Holy smoke time flies by so fast. The last time we were there Jocelyn was 8 years old (she's now 17 and ready to graduate from high school) As soon as we walked in Lulu saw me called me out by my name Phil. My partner and I came to eat here and we were greeted by Lulu. She is amazing! Very friendly and hospitable. And to add to that the food was amazing. Very authentic tasting. I had the chorizo pambazo and my girlfriend had three different types of tacos. Everything tasted great! If I lived here I would probably frequent here often but it will have to stay a staple for when I come and visit. Highly recommend! read more

So good! I got the chorizo and potato pambazo, and my husband got a carne asada huarache. I also got a quesadilla, and the cheese pull game was strong. The owner was so nice and came up and talked to us many times to make sure everything was delicious. I think this may be our new favorite Mexican spot! read more

Owner is welcoming, helpful, and friendly. Pozole was rich and nourishing. Fish tacos were served quickly and tasted like they were from freshly grilled fish chopped up. I almost felt like I was in the owner lulus kitchen! She served me their Mexican coffee which I thought was so amazing! First time trying it. She held conversation and continued to check on her guests to point her guests where chatting with eachother. I tried their 3 steak taco dinner which was omg so good not a piece of fat or nasty meat! She had carne asada in it. The salsa and chips was spicy but so good! And I even went ahead and ordered a horchata probably the best I ever had and their chicken sope was so homemade! I decided to finally return back, I truly regret not returning sooner. Lulu was great. She has the most amazing personality, and truly makes you feel at home. I ordered their Carne Asada burrito. The carne Asada was delicious. It was very tender and seasoned perfectly. I also substituted their lettuce and tomatoes for rice. The tacos were also very good. Lulu also recommended to try their Pambazos, and invited us back to try them out. Will definitely accept that invite! read more

Delicious food and welcoming upbeat staff. The chicken quesadilla dinner was generous with the tortilla a smidge golden and crispy. The frijoles refritos and rice were so good I fished them up before turning my attention to the 3 quesadillas. Plenty left over for dinner. The chips were great. This is the type of neighborhood restaurant that reminds to take a drive and savor the variety of restaurants in Chicago. A typical modest local place that quickly feels at home. Rick Bayless (Frontera Grill & PBS), has talked about Mexican food in Chicagoland, stating that the majority of our food (cooking style that is) comes from northern Mexico. Which is great and yet I've always been intrigued with cooking from other parts of Mexico. Kinda like the US, every region and state has their own unique style of cooking. So when the owner told me that their cooking hails from Mexico City (central Mexico), I got really excited. They have pambazos (which looks like a big torta sandwich) and huarches (which looks like an elongated tostada). I look forward to trying those on my next visit. We had their tacos, a burrito, creamy beans, a soft lengua (that's tongue) taco and I tell you, the poblano cheese stuffed taco was Muy excellente - that was my favorite for sure!! The service was great, and we were given complimentary Mexican coffee, which was somewhat grayish in color but cinnamony and darn good. The flan was thick and rich and overall, great!! It's a Family affair here with the husband cooking and the wife running the front of the shop and daughter??, running the register. Can someone spot a dynasty in the making?? Lulu knows firsthand how to create community. amazing food and warm presence make for a perfect meal. Kindly served hot food: carne asada, al pastor, pambazo, avocado salad... quickly and with a sense of humor. The chairs are comfortable, tables are clean, and Frida watches over all. Wow, I'm so disappointed. I placed an order for delivery for tampiquena dinner and guac and chips. I put in the notes that I wanted the steak medium rare, when it arrived the steak was like shoe leather, so dry, thin and no flavor at all, the guac was decent but over all a terrible order, won't be using this restaurant again. One of the better Mexican spots in town. Not fancy by any means, ut certainly not a hole in the wall spot. I like it, and will be back. Would give it a 5, but service is always so average. Lulu remembered what we ordered and if we would like to have the same or something different. We were completely shocked that she remembered! We always enjoy the fajitas, burritos, infierno tacos or enchiladas molé. The salsa is different from any other we have tasted and with oranges being a side for the fajitas, we researched that Lulu's cooking is Southern Mexico! Not something offered in our area, so we love the complexity in the flavor of the red salsa. We chose flan for dessert with coffee and the smooth, creamy yet firm texture of the flan never disappoints. Also, chocolate cake at the bottom of flan?! Win, win. Lulu's service is so hospitable and remembering the order of a couple that visits a handful of times a year is impeccable. A bit overwhelming place with great service. Servers are engaging and prompt to attend. The salad was missing dressing and pretty much is not worth asking for it. The Pambazo is a tricky dish easy to get wrong, but they nailed it! Of course it wasn't prepared as spicy as it should be and was missing the queso fresco, but the presentations was nice. No washrooms, so I would recommend this place for a pick up only, or a quick bite when you are around the neighborhood. Looks a family own/run place so let's keep it alive. read more

Do not sleep on this place!! The owner is so amazing and kind. Their cafe de olla is so delicious, my mother and I got to try it while we waited for our takeout. As we waited, we watched the owner greet every customer with the same kindness and warmth that we were greeted with. Once we got home to eat, the food was amazing. We got the chorizo con papa pambasos, horchata and Gordita de chicharrón. Everything was an 8+/10!! The Gordita de chicharrón specifically was a 10/10! Overall amazing and welcoming place. This place is hands down the BEST Mexican food I have ever had. Lulu, the mastermind, makes food that taste like love, the atmosphere is so comfortable and inviting.
