Where should I start. First, the employees are friendly and very helpful. The selection of food is great. Did you know everything is made on site. It is a quaint shop with not only good food, but a sweet area where you can purchase interesting items that will bring a smile to your face. It is a family-owned business which has been there for many years. What more could you ask for: great food, great employees and a quaint little shop. Ordered from Village Bake House through Uber eats while staying in Mystic a few days ago. An amazing experience from start to finish! I ordered soup and a salad through the app with no explanation of what soups were available but immediately after placing the order I received a phone call from a friendly employee explaining which soups were available. He named three different soups but I only heard one which was jambalaya. He mentioned that it was spicy but as I said "I'm from Texas" he said "oh you'll be fine then!" He was right! It was awesome and just the right amount of spicy! I ordered the chef salad as well. Everything was presented beautifully and didn't look like a to-go order at all! Amazing! The word "bakery" is very misleading. A small display case which by 2:00 p.m. is nearly empty is what we discovered. There were a few basic cookies, tarts but nothing anyone would get excited about. Village Sandwich Shop is what they really are. There seems to be a real lack of bakeries on Groton-Mystic shoreline which is a major disappointment same goes for good Italian food. Syft is decent but also lacks when you think of variety and baked goods. Having moved from central CT, we never realized how spoiled we were having access to very good, generational, family owned bakeries! Great quick dive for lunch! Very fresh chicken and veggies. You can tell it's homemade. One thing I wish was that there was more potato salad! That was so good. The service was quick and accurate and you can tell the owners care about you! There are a lot of regulars that came in and you could tell the owners loved them. I would plan ahead if you have a large group as there isn't a lot of seating but there's enough for a couple on a quick lunch! read more

Village bake house is one of my favorite lunch spots whenever I'm at work. They are quick, friendly, and have a ton of options for sandwiches, soup and salads. My favorite items here are the thanksgiving on a bun sandwich and the chicken quesadilla. I usually add avocado to the quesadilla (for an up charge) but it's so worth it because let's be honest avocado rules. I also really enjoy their soups which rotate daily oh and did I mention they make their own delicious cookies and other pastries? Make sure to grab something sweet before you check out. Looking for a quick bite to eat and a good local spot based on word of mouth, I discovered this little gem. I definitely wouldn't have found it by just driving by, plus there was road work being leading to it's parking lot. The building it was located in almost looks like an office type building. In addition to their baked desserts, they have a wide variety of wrap and salad offerings. One of the locals that was in there at the time recommended the pesto chicken wrap, so that's what I went with. The wrap was warm on the inside and the wrap was toasted giving it a little more rigidity and a slight crunch when eating it. It came wrapped in foil to keep it warm, then additional with paper and a pickle slice. A variety of bottled drinks could be purchased. Tables and seating were small and quaint, but the place isn't big enough to really support bigger ones. I was too full to try any of the desserts, but the cookies are sold by the pound and the rest of the display case looked really appealing. Overall a good experience, with friendly customer service. I can see why it's a favorite spot of the locals. read more

When we lived in Groton, I would have eaten here every day of the week if my wife would have let me. This is a very small, nondescript place on the side of the road next door to a jewelry store. If you blink, you'll miss it. If you aren't looking for it, you'll never notice it. Please listen to me carefully: LOOK FOR IT. SEEK IT OUT. GO TO THE VILLAGE BAKE HOUSE NOW! If you're just driving across country and have no intention of even getting off the highway between NY and Boston, DON'T. GET OFF THE HIGHWAY in Groton and have lunch at the Village Bake House along the way. You WON'T be disappointed! Besides being an AWESOME bakery with absolutely sinful things to tempt your tastebuds (of the pastry and cookie variety), they also have a supremely delicious selection of sandwiches, wraps, and soups. I would routinely go there to have a wrap for lunch. Just the thought of the maple turkey or the thai chicken wrap is making my mouth water. (You can check out their menu on their website). If you look at my rating spreads, you'll see that I reserve the 5-star rating for those places that are very truly spectacular. As I ran my errands and finished up at the post office I stopped by to pick up a lunch and two cookies. I ordered the Turkey BLT wrap, a tollhouse cookie, and oatmeal raisin. I loved the wrap and their oatmeal cookie but their tollhouse cookie wasn't that great. Stopped in for lunch today, which was my first time ordering an actual sandwich from here. I've had their cakes (thumbs up) as well as their cookies (double thumbs up), but never ordered off their actual menu before. First of all, i just have to say...I like this place. I like that it's small, and i like that the staff engage you in conversation even though you're a complete stranger. I like that the other customers make silly faces at my son when we stop in just to get him to smile back. It just feels like a small, friendly place--and I like that! But onto the food. I ordered a Louisiana Chicken Wrap today, and snagged 2 cookies as well. The wrap was delicious, and was still nice and warm by the time I got it home. The portions are just right--which is something I admire. I can't stand ordering someplace and being left feeling hungry or worse yet, being left with an overabundance of food (that usually doesn't taste great the next day.) But my wrap was a nice, normal sized wrap and had a great little kick to it, thanks to the Creole sauce. The cookies were the perfect ending. A nice touch of sweet to finish up with. Very good. I'll definitely be bake to the Village Bake House. When I need a birthday cake or just some sweet, or a quick delicious lunch, I'll swing by. And think you should too. :) read more

I like the Village Bake House. I like sandwiches and cookies and pickles, and the Village Bake House provides me all of these things! And they manage to get it to me well within the limits of my lunch break! It's kind of like magic, only it's actually excellent service. I guess I have one compliant though. You get a side with your sandwich or wrap, but it's never the same. My favorite is the potato salad - it's freakin' delicious, but I've only ever gotten it twice. It's like I'm 6 and I keep putting my quarters in the toy vending machine trying to get the the lollipop ring, but I end up with two flower tattoos and one of those sticky hands that get hair and dust on 'em the minute they're out of the plastic. Not the point. Point is, the pasta salad and cole slaw are okay, but the potato salad is waaaayyy better. And their sandwiches are just really satisfying. Get the veggie melt or the pesto chicken wrap. Oww or the maple turkey wrap. They also do half sandwiches and soup - either way, you'll be satiated and happy and back before the boss notices you're gone! read more

Great discovery for lunch while on travel! I've had both the Louisiana chicken wrap and the flaming chicken wrap! Both have just enough kick. The sandwich and wraps come with a side that you can't pick. Both times got coleslaw. Chips and drink extra. Great potato salad. Was told that potato salad was made on Thursday for Friday and Saturday. They toast the wrap so it's not just a stuffed rolled tortilla. Closes at 4pm not 6pm during winter months A little disappointed in the baked items...cinnamon stick and apple turnover. Not worth the calories. I went to your business purchased the soup for my brother-n -law whom was on a low salt diet,and also was handicapped and unable to leave the house.I went out of my way to purchase that soup& quite frankly i wish i never stepped foot in that place!The soup was not consumable it was disgustingly salty!! I will say this publicly it is written on several posts that you are accusing me and your wife who was not there that day so she should not be making false accusations of stealing, be very careful when you are actively accusing someone of stealing.I believed you robbed me !!I paid for a soup that i never got!!IT WAS ME that decided to call the cops because i like anyone in their right mind are not going to be accused of theft and i said call the cops because i wanted my money returned and wanted to file a complaint that you were accusing me of theft!! The best buffalo chicken wrap I've ever had. Everything is made to order right there, so you can customize any salad, sandwich, or wrap. The staff is always super friendly and patient. If you don't like their menu items, you can build a sandwich from scratch. Every sandwich comes with a pickle (YUM) and a side of pasta salad, potato salad, or coleslaw. All are yummy. I've been here several times and only ever get the Thanksgiving-on-a-bun sandwich because I just love it so much. My co-workers got a grape chicken salad sandwich and a chicken ranch wrap and they kept saying how good it all was. The potato salad here is one of my favorites in the area! The shop is super cute and cozy and very clean. This is the only thing that I've purchased from this place since 2010- chicken salad on 8 grain bread with a side of Deep River Original Chips!!
