Not many places do quality DIP POWDER and puffin is one of them. This review is pre covid - and I miss them so much. I moved back to Concord and with any move you need to find new salons, which is always annoying. Puffin is down the street from my house so I thought why not. Bonus if they're good - and thank god they were! The shop is small, they have about 4-6 manicure tables (more but it's kinda squished together) and like 5 pedi chairs? I called ahead to make an appointment which I'm glad bc it can easily fill up given the space. They're clean / very sanitized. Everyone is super friendly, the guy at the front desk I think is the owner/ manager and the one who makes all the appointments. They have a solid selection of regular polish, gel polish, and dip powder colors. I forgot the names of whose done my nails but they always talk to you and make sure you're pleased with the nails, as they ask and check for your approval at many times throughout the process. The only thing I don't love is that I have to go from the pedi chair to the main desk every time. If they're able to do my nails AT the pedi chair it would be 5 stars. read more

Update 10/1/18 I had to stop coming here. The service is inconsistent and they rush your pedicures. You always get someone who clearly isn't trained in their job when you have to tell them you missed a step. Not sure who the owner is but sometimes quality over quantity is better. Sadly after a handful of great experiences here I made two recommendations which I now deeply regret. I had the pleasure of getting pedicures from him back in the day on Clayton Road. This review is only on pedicures I never get my nails done. The shop itself is located at the Corner of Monument/Treat Blvd near Captains Chest/Wells Fargo/Trader Joes. The nail shop is very clean, they use Liners in their Pedicure Chairs, and the chairs offer a great massage that you can get while you get your pedicure done. They use clean tools out of the bag and don't rush you. The pedicure I got was $25. They have other specialty pedicures as well. I voiced my concern about a few touch ups that needed to be done and it got taken care of with a smile. The nail stations looked clean and the staff actually tries to get to know you. Pedicures are usually a hit or miss but I needed to find a new nail shop and this is located within the perfect radius for me. In order for ANYONE to have a pleasant experience at a nail salon you obviously have to go during off peak hours (i.e Monday-Wednesday). Cash & all major cards accepted. I have been to numerous nail salons but none that I have been 100% satisfied with until coming here. I would always get acrylics but after a recommendation from a friend I decided to try out dip and I couldn't be happier. The first time I came here my natural nails were not healthy and would always break so I decided to get tips. Cindy did an amazing job on my Valentine's Day set. She is lovely to be around and paid great attention to my nails (the skin around them was very cracked and bleeding). The set she did was AMAZING! And lasted me more than three weeks. I came again to get a set this time, Misa, did my nails. She removed the dip so patiently and helped me choose a color that matched my skin tone so nicely. She was so meticulous and made my natural nails look beautiful. This is my first time ever not adding tip or some kind of extension, and they look even better than extensions. I'm not one to post a review a lot but I was truly disappointed with how my first experience was at Puffin Nails. A friend of mine recommended this place and I was really excited to try it out. I called ahead of time to ask for dip powder and a gel pedicure. I went in and they sat me down immediately! That was a plus! I then told the lady I had 4 tips, two on my pointer fingers and two on my thumbs. The lady was super nice and very fun to talk to. As I was get my dip powder taken off, I was sent to do the pedicure. From here, my experience wasn't too great. I had asked for a gel pedicure in the color bubble bath, but when my manicurist was looking for the color she couldn't find it. I just wished she had told me instead of pretending a different nail polish was the same color. I was very disappointed with the gentleman at the front who I'm sure new that was the case as well. Lastly, when I finished my pedicure, I went to get my nails done. I asked for a dip powder similar to bubble bath and the lady said okay. She then proceeded to put white dip powder and continued to layer it pretty thick. She kept asking me if is it okay and I said to not put pink anymore because adding anything else on top would make my nail bed look super bulky. In the end for both dip and a gel pedicure came out to 115 dollars. Very upsetting to be paying 115 for a service not done well. I really wish the owner could take this review and help his employees do better. Thank you for your time. read more

I'm so glad I found this place! I wanted to try dip after getting it at another salon in Walnut Creek and really not liking it. So I was nervous i would have a similar experience (thick nail, lifting after one week). I expressed my concerns to my nail technician Cindy and she assured me I would get what I wanted. Cindy is a fancy nail tech! My nails looks fantastic and they are exactly what I wanted. She is very meticulous and made sure to check in with me multiple times to ensure i liked what she was doing. I loved this place because of Cindy. But today really pissed me off. I have had two incidents now where I have scheduled WEEKS in advance with Cindy and when I get there, two other people do my pedicure and dip powder manicure. Not only that, but today I have someone who is clearly not experienced. She not only did not do a good job, but she decided to take her gloves off and compare her short nails to mine (I tried to go without doing the dip polish for a few weeks and my nails keep breaking really short because they are so thin) to the other girls standing around followed by laughing. We were trying so hard to find the right color for her big day. All the ladies in the salon were so helpful! I made an appointment here last minute about a week ago in hopes of finding a new salon closer to home. Although I appreciate them making time for me so last minute and I over all liked how my nails turned out, my experience ended up being not so great. I wasn't able to get the design I was hoping for because they only have one technician that does designs and they weren't working that day. However, I made an appointment last minute so I was okay without getting the design. I had a pleasant experience getting my nails done until the last 15 minutes or so, the person had filed so roughly that I started bleeding and had cuts in multiple different spots. They seemed thoroughly distracted towards the end of my appointment and I don't think they were aware of what they were doing. read more

Then he looked me up and down, looked at the EMPTY appt book sitting right in front of both of us, sighed a few times, and then asked if I could come back later!!! No thank you! Update: This place was my favorite nail salon to go. Lately costumer service has been TERRIBLE. I went yesterday to fix my nail. I had called early to schedule an appointment with Lin. The guy that does appointments told me she only had a 6:30pm available. So I took it. I double confirmed the appointment was going to be with Lyn and he said YES. When I got to the place he greeted me and told me to sit in Lin's chair. He NEVER told me she was NOT in the shop. After 30 minutes Issa came and told me Lin wasn't there. She look at my nail and said no one else could fix my nail and had to wait for Lin until Monday!. Then she filed my nail and told me it would be fine until I see Lin. I asked her if she could at least take off the remain dipping powder I had on my nail. She put a cotton ball with acetone and foil paper. She said she had costumers and left. I was there for more than 15 minutes without help. I decided to do their job myself... At this point I was already mad. This review is mostly for the guy that answers/schedules appointments. He has messed up my appointments more than 3 times!!!!. Idk if it's a language barrier or what's the problem but they need someone who knows about good costumer service. I do not have nothing bad to say about Lin or Issa they are really nice. They have lost a loyal costumer due to poor costumer service. I used to recommend a lot of people to them. Love their dip manicures here. I moved to the area almost 3 years ago and started by trying dip at a few places recommended to me in downtown Walnut Creek but ended up with damaged nails and bad experiences. I'm so glad I finally found Puffin- it's closer to home that does such a better job! The price of dip can be a little high but my nails look good for about 3 weeks so it feels like a worthy investment when I want them to look nice without causing lasting damage. I am able to book my appointments right through Yelp which is so convenient and I don't request anyone specific because I have had good experiences with every person I've been to here. One of my favorite things is how they help me test out and sample colors to make sure I'm getting the shade I really want. (They have a LOT of color options so I always try to get there early to give myself extra time to choose.) The whole nail salon itself is also very cute and clean. I love how it's filled with such pretty plants! It's very calming and with the fresh air flowing throughout I feel safe even during covid times. read more

3 weeks ago I stopped at the plaza to pick up an item from another establishment. Since I had extra time I decided to get a quick manicure. I don't live in the area and had never visited this salon in the past. As I walked in my first thought was how bright, clean and cheerful they are. As we all know since then we have been stuck at home, washing our hands repeatedly, spraying counters with bleach and doing home projects to fill the time. I am amazed at how well my nails are holding up. No chips or peeling! When a client makes an appointment you abide by that appointment versus taking walk ins and seating them first.
