If you want to know how and why I know you should pick him, read on. First you need to know how they find this stuff. They will start with the obvious items that any diy person can handle 1 Shutoff valves to toilets etc to check and listen for faulty valves 2 Do pressure checks 3 Visual checks If those don't find it they have specialized equipment 4 use super sensitive mic, metal detectors If that doesn't work, the expensive part comes in. 5 will pump helium gas into your pipes. Either whole house or irrigation IF you are lucky enough to have an existing access point. Points 4 and 5 is where experience paired with common sense comes in and this guy, Jeff has it. And no, not every leak detection guy has it. My story: I needed a small leak found on my property. I called plumber 1, he recommended Pulse. Did I initially call? No. Why? Because I thought I was being scammed into paying more. I called advanced xxx. They spent the full 2 hours and didn't find the leak. To be fair, they did find my irrigation valve cutoff which was hidden under mulch 2 feet away from my meter. I asked what about pumping air but they already looked like they were done entertaining finding the leak. Their excuse was that the pipe is PVC and is hard to find. Is it true? Yes. Could they have done more? Yes. Did they? No, they didn't. And just like that I was out 300 bucks. Fast forward to Pulse. Jeff His experience was clear in the first 5 minutes. He used the same tech as the other guys but in a different manner. Jeff explained ahead of time he needed to use helium gas to find the leak under my front lawn with pipes made of PVC. The pipes ended up being roughly 2-3 feet underground and he located the pinhole leak and located the pipe and was dead center on it. The way a business like this should work is pretty simple. If you don't find the leak, come out at hugely reduced rate plus regular rate on materials and finish the job. I had a gallon per minute leak in my landscaping, they came out to wave a sensor around for several hours and tell me that the leak is certainly coming from visibly dripping irrigation manifolds (logically couldn't add up to a gallon a minute). Thousands of dollars later with manifolds fixed, same leak exists (obviously underground somewhere), exact same rate to come out again and find the actual leak. I called these guys up because my hardwood floors in the living room was lifting and buckling. Thinking that I may have a slab leak, I decided to give these guys a call. Technician shows up and I show him the floors. Instead of breaking out the instruments to check for hotspots underneath the slab, he proceeded to hook up an instrument to one of my outdoor faucets to check water pressure. Then he had me stand by the water meter at the sidewalk while he heads into the house doing who knows what? Keep in mind that the whole service call felt rushed and lasted 20 minutes for which I paid $375 for two hours. In that short amount of time, no leak was found. The contractor from pulse was supposed to come this morning and did not show up. We had a very tight schedule as we had to drain our liner pool overnight and he was supposed to be here early in the morning to check for a leak in the pool pipe. He did not show up and now we have a drained liner pool that could collapse if not filled again in time and no pressure tester. Extremely unprofessional, do not work with this company!!! read more

I had a leak under my house concreate foundation for the past week. Thoughts and stories from my friends haunted me with a large expense. One of my friend spent $14000 on his slab, trying to locate and fix the problem, but his house was much older. Unfortunately, Jeff was neither helpful or professional. We noticed mold on several items in the cabinet. Jeff came over and did his few minute test and declared there was absolutely no sign of moisture in the cabinets. I asked him if he was sure because we have little ones that get into cabinets. He said there's definitely no moisture in there. Not 3 hours later we discovered that several wood cutting boards in the cabinet had mold on them. Jeff was either incompetent in detecting obvious mold or careless in his work. The best is that after a 10 minute visit where he clearly was careless and did not come close to living out his "to give the best possible leak detection service" motto, he charged for 2 hrs of work and told my wife he didn't mind losing our business. He said, "not all leak detection guys know what they are doing, even if their company may have a good reputation. He not only marks the spot on the floor where the leak is, he also marks the spot on the walls where the pipes are going and where the manifolds are.
