Cable Pipe & Leak Detection failed to detect a PVC pipe that was located exactly where we showed them we planned to dig. The resulting damage cost us more than $6,000 to repair. CPL not only refused to cover any of the costs resulting from the failure, but their General Manager was unprofessional and discourteous throughout our interactions. Not once did he complete a follow up item within his own self-imposed timeline, or even return a single call. In fact, it took 8 outgoing calls and more than 3 weeks to get a refund of the amount we paid to CPL for the job at which they failed, which was under $300 and very far from recompense for the ~$6k the failure cost us to fix. Pay careful attention to the terms CPL requires its customers to sign, which state "Any consequential damages due to the service performed are not recoverable." (Also, the fact that they did not leave a copy of those terms at the time of the job but provided them after we made them aware of the damage tells you a lot about the way that they do business.) There are many local providers for PVC pipe detection, avoid our mistake and find one that stands behind their work and treats their customers with respect. read more

Technician came out to identify the water leak in my mom's garden. He noted that one of the sprinkler valve needed to get fixed. However, when the sprinkler was off, the water still kept rising. And so he thought the water was coming from neighbor. We notified the neighbor and the had someone come out and there was no leak on their side. They charged $385. My mom's neighbor came by and he immediately identified the problem and fixed it. There was a leak from garden faucet, not related to the sprinkler system. read more

hate leaving a poor review but this is my experience with CPL... They came out, the tech was nice and professional, however, they misidentified the leak. They taped off two pipes and said "this is where the leak is" and they gave us instructions to relay to a plumber to repair the leak. We had a plumber come out and re route those lines that were taped off and found out that the leak was actually before these lines... I understand that it's not an exact science but when we called back to try and schedule a time for them to come back and actually find the leak they just kept saying they would call us back but we never got a call back. I worked with Ellie and Jose to investigate water seeping through my floorboards and had a great experience with CPL. Ellie was super helpful and quick with scheduling. She initially offered a next day inspection but while I was checking my calendar she found an opening on the same day. Luckily Jose was already in the area so I drove straight home from my office to meet him. He was extremely respectful throughout the entire inspection, offering little tidbits of knowledge and advice such as capping my water heater drain with a brass cap. He would explain his troubleshooting process and was very patient whenever I would ask questions. He tried all of the tools in his arsenal such as measuring the water pressure, acoustic detection, using his thermal meter, etc.. Although we did not find the source of the water, he helped give me peace of mind that my hot and cold water lines are not the culprit of the leak. He gave several helpful tips along the way of things to look out for and in general was very respectful and kind throughout the entire inspection. As mentioned in other reviews, he was very respectful of my property especially. He always asked if I was comfortable before puncturing holes in the floor and walls with his moisture detector. I genuinely could tell he wanted me to be sure about it and wasn't just asking for the sake of it. He also gave words of encouragement towards the end as he could tell that I've been stressing about the leak. His kindness helped me feel more at ease and those little gestures went a long way during a stressful situation. Overall, I'm super pleased with the help Jose provided and although we didn't find the source of the leak, I feel confident that the pipes in my home are not the cause. Admittedly, CPL was slightly more expensive for a leak detection than other companies I called (~$20 more) but with the quality of work, professionalism, and customer service Jose provided I'd say it was money well spent. Called after True Plumbing said we needed to hire someone to find where exactly the leak is taking place. Rylee answered the phone and was very nice. Was able to book an appointment the same day and mentioned that if you pay with cash it is 10% cheaper!!! Guy who came was nice but did break the handle off my water heater. He said it was because of how old the water heater was/corroded, but still kinda sucked. Then he started to tape everywhere the pipes were and wanted to cut a hole in our wall to show where the manifold was even though there was no leak inside the house. My wife was freaking out. Then he realized that we probably didn't need to cut a hole in the wall and became super helpful giving advice on what we should do, needed to ask & tell the plumber. He emailed notes with pictures which was also really appreciated. Lesson learned is give all the options before you start doing doing something...like cutting a hole in the wall of the bathroom. read more

CPL came to do leaks detection at my house, which overall is a really stressful time to be in. My place wasn't really organized and they were very kind about my messy garage and my messy bedroom and didn't make me feel bad about my mess. I had a plumber recommend CPL as we are having tenting of our kitchen tiles. I set up the appointment and was given a window of 1 to 4 pm for tech arrival. When I hadn't heard anything about 3:50 pm, I called the service and they said their technician was held up at another home and would be arriving sometime between 4-5 pm. He actually arrived at 5:35 pm. So thinking the would be arriving between 1 and 4 pm we weren't able to use our kitchen, which was a huge inconvenience not being able to prepare lunch or dinner. The tech finished his work after 7pm so we had to buy dinner. But they easily billed me $395.00, and when I called them about offering a discount for the inconvenience, they said they could not give me a discount. How difficult is it for a business to offer a 5-10% discount for an inconvenience like what we went through. I would not recommend CPL, as it already felt like the cost for the service they provide is overly expensive and they overcharged me. Look for someone else. The guy didn't do a full and thorough examination of the land and told me it was ok to dig to plant my trees. In fact he actually circled on the ground in green chalk the best spot to dig at (which I did). I hired a landscaper and low and behold - a foot down there are pipes that he didn't detect but should have. The managers at the head office were rude, argumentative and not willing to do anything to make their mistake right. They did their due diligence and found the leak. After leak detected, 1-2 hours later, they recommended some plumbing companies. They left, water shut, but they found the leak. A mess was left and we felt like we were in a very precarious situation- water shut, bigger leak and shopping for a plumber quickly. They did find the leak however. read more

Just met with Chris and the newbie Quinn regarding a leak at a small apartment complex. I feel like I've been playing whack-a-mole with all these various leaks I've had to deal with. I contacted CPL on the recommendation of a plumber working on a water main leak. I had previously found a leak at the meter (my side) and had it repaired. The repair failed after six months. The plumber came back and repaired it for free, but we noticed what seemed to be a slow leak based on the meter still but nothing was visible. I contacted CPL and they came out the next morning as promised. The process of finding the water lines and marking their location was very interesting as my pipes are PVC. The technician verified and marked everything including the path for irrigation supply running from the front to the back yard. He then introduced pressurized air into the water lines from a hose bibb in the back yard and proceeded to bleed water from the lines. He then used special listening equipment to find point from which the leak was located. He checked the path of all water lines several times, ultimately returning to the front yard approximately 8 feet from the water meter. He let me listen to the sound being transmitted through his equipment and it sounded like a gurgling in a toilet that doesn't stop running. Satisfied that nothing else had any signs of a leak he marked the area and departed. After digging down to the depth of the pipe I found a coupling with the pipes connected that was crooked. It was exactly at the point he marked and where we heard the sound. Saved a lot of random digging! read more

CPL detection did an excellent job in finding a garage slab leak. At first we thought there was a water pipe leak in the wall in the house, but after Cooper did a bunch of tests, it was determined that the leak was actually coming from under the slab in the garage. I was surprised to see how many different type of tests can be done to determine and verify the location of a leak detection even when no water is visible but just the sound of water leaking in a wall in the house. I never would have guessed that the sound behind the wall near the kitchen originated from a leak under the garage slab but I was relieved that we did not have to rip out any kitchen cabinets. Found these guys off of a Google search and did not even think about using Yelp. Sorry Yelp! Considering I used a Google search, I had low expectations. I did have to wait 2 days for an appointment. Technician Quentin gave me a text of his ETA and showed up on time. He took his time while investigating the problem with the water leak that was inside the slab of the house. He exposed the wall with the pipe that had an issue and also exposed where we could bypass the pipe in the slab and go though the wall. Technician Quentin was professional and explained the problem to me. At the end of the job, he was also able to send me an email with pictures and a summery of the issue.
