09/14/26 Food was great. While our server was friendly, the service was lacking. We were seated right away, but it took longer than expected before our server arrived. My husband tried to order the Pupatella IPA, but the server told him they were out. When he asked, what do you have? She responded with, you can get anything on happy hour. He then tried to order the Future IPA and was told they were out of that also. He then asked for the Pupatella Lager which is $5 on the happy hour menu. We ordered the arancini with sausage. They were crisp on the outside and paired nicely with the delicious marinara sauce. The balls are about the size of a golf ball and I would recommend them at the happy hour price of $5 for four, but not sure I would venture to get them at the normal menu price. We asked our waitress how big the pizzas were in reference to whether one would be enough for my husband and I to share or if we should each get our own. She tried to tell us one would be enough and we would each get two slices. When she mentioned two slices, we both looked at each other and agreed we'd better get our own. I'm so glad we ordered two because it is not big enough to feed more than one person unless you're not very hungry. We ordered the chorizo and the onion tart pizzas. They were very different from each other and very tasty each in their own way. While the onions were abundant on the onion tart, we would have liked more chorizo on that pizza as it wasn't enough to carry the flavor of the chorizo and wasn't enough to make an impact on the taste of the pizza. Our server was hard to flag down or find and wasn't on top of refilling our drinks or checking to see if we needed anything. Although, she was very pleasant, she seemed to lack the words to communicate with us and seemed like possibly a language barrier. I saved a slice of pizza to take back to our airbnb so I would have room for dessert. We ordered the dessert sampler only to have our server come back and tell us they didn't have it. She didn't mention which they didn't have, but then tried to get us to order something else and mentioned at least two of the items that are on the sampler and then also a gelato flight. If they were only out of one dessert, which I'm thinking they were out of the panna cotta, they could have offered the flight with a double serving of one of the other desserts. We opted for nothing as we were looking forward to having a sampling of desserts which was the main draw for us saving room for dessert. I explained to the server that I would not need a togo box since we weren't having dessert and I was going to eat the slice of pizza. We asked her for a togo cup for my soda instead. She came back to the table with a box for the pizza that I had already eaten in the time it took her to come back to the table. Again, we asked for a togo soda. Then she brought the check. The check had an old fashioned which we did not order and a charge for two full priced Vienna Lagers which are also not what my husband ordered. We went back and forth about the bill. She left and came back with a bill that still had an old fashioned and then one of the full price beers removed. We explained again that my husband had 2 Pupatella lagers which were $5 on happy hour and no old fashioned. She then brought our bill back again still with a $5 old fashioned and then $3.50 taken off of the full price Vienna Lager. So the drinks were still wrong on the bill, but since the prices ended up being the same, we left it alone and just paid the bill. Regardless, she told us when we ordered that he could get any of the beers on happy hour so the beer should have been $5 on the receipt no matter which beer she rang up. It seems as though she gave inaccurate information since the Vienna Lager rang up at $8.50 on the bill. Overall, the food was good, the server was friendly, but just not very good at the role of being a server. Again, I feel like there was a major language barrier so perhaps she was not placed in the best role as a server at the restaurant. Also disappointing to be out of several items and not making the staff aware so they could accurately inform customers without a lot of back and forth. read more

So good! This place seriously has some of the best Neapolitan pizza I've had. The crust was perfectly soft and chewy with that slightly crispy char, and the toppings tasted super fresh. Everything came out hot and clearly made with care. We also tried the tiramisu and it was amazing- light, creamy, and not overly sweet. Definitely one of the best desserts I've had in a while and the perfect way to finish the meal. Service was great too. Everyone was really friendly and attentive, and the whole experience felt relaxed and welcoming. We'll definitely be back- highly recommend if you're craving really good pizza and dessert! read more

I went to Pupatella with the fam. We started with the Mozzarella balls appetizer--a different take on mozzarella sticks. There were lots of choices for thin-crust pizza baked in a wood-fired oven. Delicious, ney really delicious...Pizza was fresh and hot. Everyone had a different type. The daughter had a Margarita, Neapolitan buffalo mozzarella, basil, and olive oil with tomato sauce. Son has a Burrata, Burrata (extra creamy mozzarella), cherry tomatoes, pine nuts, and basil. I had a Mimosa with roasted corn, prosciutto cotto (ham), and fresh mozzarella with Italian cream sauce. All came out of the oven pretty fast. Pup's offers Mexican Coke with real cane sugar, Italian Blood Orange soda. Better than crap put out in the US Service. Perfect. Staff was friendly, and accommodating, Unfortunately, forgot our waitress's name(I think it was Matte) but definitely terrific, Place was clean and bright. Parking right at the restaurant. Pupatella used to be my go-to for perfect Neapolitan pizza -- airy crust, great flavor, spot-on bake. A couple of years ago, after getting three soggy, underbaked pizzas in a row, I reluctantly stopped ordering from them. Then, a couple of weeks ago, a friend ordered a pizza in the hopes that the problem had been fixed. Unfortunately, it had the same issue: burnt edges and a middle so soggy you needed a spoon to eat it! I know Neapolitan style has a naturally soft center, but this goes beyond that -- it feels underbaked in the middle. The ingredients are still tasty (even though they used ham instead of actual Prosciutto), but the balance is off. I hope management sees this and brings back the quality and consistency that made Pupatella a favorite. I really want a properly baked pizza, but I'm getting soup. read more

Our new favorite local pizza. Absolutely delicious and perfect for takeout. I had pepperoni and my wife had the meat pizza. Mine was cheesier, but hers was more flavorful I think. There was a bit of a wait on a busy Friday evening and parking is very challenging; we will opt to do take out, and even then we might go as a pair so one can pick up while the other waits in the car. Visited pupatella's this evening for the first time, cute little place with a very relaxing and laid back atmosphere. We got the mozzarella balls and they were so good, gooey and warm, I wish we got more but for $7 in Arlington it makes sense. We did 2 make your own pizzas but did not go over the 4 ingredient suggestion. Overall pizzas were pretty good, great sauce and ingredients, highly recommend getting bacon and sausage both were very good. Also the ricotta was our favorite for the cheese! The only complaint I had was the pizza was extremely floppy and soggy bottom, Neapolitan pizza is known for a thin crust which I love but it good have been a little more crusted as the pizza slid off every time I picked up a slice. This is my favorite pizza in the DMV. With one caveat: it does not travel well. It's not bad if you order to go, but it's exponentially better if you eat it there. Service: (0/5) I have never had worse service in my life. We got there and it was fine. When I asked to pay some on the card and some with cash, the waitress was annoyed. While it is more difficult, I didn't think it was a big deal. I counted the cash in front of her and my entire party, but when she took it off the bill, it was miscounted. I politely told her that it wasn't correct and she said she would check. She threw my credit card back at me when she was going back, which to me is very disrespectful. Great Neapolitan pizza, and good service. These pizzas come with a perfectly soft thin crust and super flavorful toppings. My partner and I tried onion tart and mushroom pizzas. Both were great and very rich and filling. Two slices were enough to fill up each of us, and that's really something! Onion tart pizza was both sweet and savory, and the mushroom pizza was very garlicky (yum, love it!). In Germany I had bruschetta from a little Italian restaurant... years ago. It is the measurement of all bruschetta for me. This place is a 8/10 on that scale. Too many tomato's, too little servings. 4 vs 6. But still really good. Sitting on the front seats provided a chill atmosphere and theater of the Arlington Traffic at the X intersection. Really nice at sunset on a cool day. Service is kinda a quandary. Great at first and tailed off to the point of seeking out the staff to pay the bill. A perfect experience from the first visit! Came here today after stopping by at a nearby animal shelter. I didn't know there was a Pupatella in this area too. They are everywhere these days! That's great. As soon as we found a spot to park, in one of maybe like 10 parking spots on the premises, I ordered online. It was 12:44pm. When I got inside to pick up at 1:00pm which they promised, the two pizza pies were ready and the arrancinis were just done. Perfect! We brought them home and enjoyed. Was craving pizza and this spot has the highest rating in the neighborhood, where apparently even Time Out has mentioned it as a top spot in Arlington (I'm new to Arlington haha). It's also hard to find a sit down pizza spot in the area so I was pleased that they have both indoor and outdoor seating. There isn't much to note on the "ambiance" besides that it's very neighborhood/community oriented with some screens showing pizza being made live in their open kitchen. The service was lukewarm, in that although they were adequately staffed, our server had to be tagged and I had to ask for water about 3 times because no one was really offering to refill our glasses (like a busser or the server themselves). I'm not sure if this is just poor staff training, but if a customer has an empty glass and you don't offer to refill it or just refill it, but come over and ask "if everything is okay"--the answer is that it's not okay. It's not okay because my glass is empty and has been empty and you don't seem to realize what you should do about it. Anyway, the saving grace is the food. I can see why it got such high reviews! The freshly hand spun pizza was excellent. The Margherita for me is always the standard--if you can make a basic pizza taste good then you've got fresh ingredients and a good recipe. I love the thin crust and the crispy edges. Would come back just for the pizza! We also ordered some other things like pizza balls (over a dollar for each tiny ball so value wise not great), fried risotto balls (my first time trying them!) and some liquor which I found too sweet and not cold enough (a chilled shot glass would've made it 10x better). read more

While I frequent the North Arlington location, this was my first time at this one. I visited Tuesday evening to take advantage of the Valentine's Day deal for 2. Before I get into the nitty-gritty, I do want to say that the restaurant was extremely understaffed-- especially for a night with such a popular deal-- and the employees were giving 120% and doing everything they could for how understaffed it was. I applaud them! That said, let's get into it. We arrived around 6:45pm and spent about 15 minutes waiting in line to order our food before sitting outside since there was a 30 min+ wait for inside. So far so good. After waiting for 45 minutes, only having receiving the limoncello we ordered, and no food, we approached a staff member to make sure we weren't forgotten. Turns out that the printer had broken and our order was seemingly lost. Our appetizer-- brussels sprouts-- was brought out almost immediately and we were told our pizzas were bumped to the top of the queue. We waited probably another 15 minutes for the pizzas. Then, our dessert never arrived. We followed up with two separate employees, and watched as other guests received the same dessert that we had ordered while waiting. Ultimately we didn't receive our dessert until around 8:30, and we asked for it to-go since we had already been waiting so long. Finally, some comments on the food itself. The pizza was fantastic as always-- we ordered the Margherita DOC and the Caivano. Both were incredibly fresh and tasty, the dough was perfection, and had a good amount of toppings. The limoncello was another standout for me. However, the brussels sprouts had too much balsamic dressing, to the point of burning when swallowing-- they were cooked perfectly otherwise-- and the angioletti fritti (fritters) we ordered for dessert were much too chewy. I rarely leave reviews but I just had to do so for Pupatella on South Walter Reed, especially after my most recent visit. First, the food is delicious!!!! My favorites are the Taglieri Charcuterie and Prosciutto Arugula pizza. I love having a charcuterie served on pizza crust and the flavors are just so good. The prosciutto arugula pizza convinces me that I'm eating healthy and the arugula is the perfect tang with the prosciutto. The PMT panino is my family's fave sandwich and the Nutella angioletti frittis are the perfect desert!!! They are light and airy and just soooo good. When I go with my friends, we always order round after round of their spritzes and when I go on my own, I love relaxing with a Peroni. But I really wanted to write this review because the service is just so good. The servers are always present and helpful and the managers swing by and care about our experience. They are perfectly solicitous, like not overbearing, just available and friendly. I love this neighborhood gem for both hanging out with friends and family or relaxing during a solo night out. read more
