My pizza was very good and the service there was great. I was disappointed however with my to go order of a Caprese Salad. I did not open my salad in the restaurant like I usually do. Once I got to my friends home down the street I opened the salad and realized I had three little squiggles of basil and a little handful of sliced tomatoes. This salad was definitely not worth $13. I would not have complained unless I had seen the in house version of this salad while waiting for my pizza order. I called and asked for a manager and they informed me that I saw the Burrata Platter not the Caprese Salad! It all makes sense now! That cheese was phenomenal though and HUGE chunk! read more

We have always loved Reston's Pupatella, sadly on our most recent visit, while seated immediately, we had to leave after 20 minutes because no one waited on us. In this time of difficulty of finding help, we completely understand a need for patience. However, when you have four people standing at the bar talking with only three tables in the restaurant occupied, our patience ran out. Pupatella, please bring back the opportunity for those of us dining in to just order our own food at the counter vice waiting for wait staff to acknowledge us. read more

Please please please ignore the 1 star reviews from the haggard karens who don't understand how busy the restaurant was and that they simply ran out of dough on a couple nights during launch week because so many people were coming out. The fact that the restaurant was so busy it struggled while trying to train an all new staff is a really screwed up reason to leave a brand new business a 1 star review. My experiences have been the opposite of 1 star. The pizza is out of this world good, easily the best choice in Reston now. The service has been great, and they've handled a massive amount of business pretty damn well for a new team. I've not tried anything on their menu I haven't liked yet, and I've been there 3 times since it opened, loving every meal. It's hard to handle social distancing in a pandemic while doing a launch of an incredibly popular restaurant, so their efforts to do curbside pickup for up to 30 cars at a time is pretty admirable. Please ignore the karens whining about the absolutely normal speed bumps of a brand new restaurant who are trying to smear the reputation of a brand new business. My boyfriend and I decided to check this place out shortly after it opened after hearing good things online. Pupatella is a chain, but we'd never been before. We stopped by one night on the weekend, about an hour before close. Great outdoor seating area with pretty lights up. Before we could even walk inside to order (as they didn't take orders online or over the phone at that time) an employee stopped us saying that they were already an hour and a half behind, and to please come back later. He handed us some coupons for free pizzas which was very nice. We came back the next day and got a good amount of food. For apps we got the fresh fried mozzarella balls, which were very average - not much flavor. We also got the meatballs, which ended up being my favorite thing that I tried that night, though the cheese was a little hardened and without much flavor. The actual meat was super tender and a good flavor. The red sauce was a little bland and metallic, but the flavor of the meatballs made up for it. With a free pizza coupon, we decided to get 3 pizzas - the Margherita DOC, the onion tart, and the chorizo. All were subpar. I guess this is a particular style of pizza, but I really didn't like how thin the pizza was. And this is coming from someone who prefers their pizza be thin crust rather than thick! The pizza was also really moist and floppy. Nothing stood out about the pizza. The flavors were bland and I didn't even want to finish a slice. I was in the mood for pizza so I decided to try out Pupatella since I pass it every time I drive to the Reston metro! When you walk in you're greeted and asked how big your party is, then you seat yourself and browse through the menu. When you've decided what pizza you want, you order and pay at the ordering window. The process is super laid back and the interior of the restaurant is too! It's decorated with a ton of graffiti and cute seating. We chose to order the mushroom, prosciutto arugula, meatball, and capricciosa pizzas. The mushroom pizza was absolutely delicious and was definitely my favorite! The mushrooms were perfectly sautéed and the Brie added so much dimension to the slice. The prosciutto arugula is always a classic for me and I loved now much arugula they topped the pizza with. The meatballs on the meatball pizza were so juicy and the artichokes on the capricciosa pizza meshed so well with the red sauce. Overall all the pizzas were a bit thin, but I didn't mind it. The crust was so fluffy and crisp. A whole pizza was more than enough to make me feel stuffed. I would definitely come back to try different pizzas. read more

Wow! My new favorite restaurant! Authentic Neapolitan pizza; it's amazing. I'm told they fly their ingredients straight from Italy twice a week; their certification is hard to obtain. You can tell. The sauce is to die for-those tomatoes fresh from San Marzano! Pizza is fantastic and those zucchini fires are just heavenly. Staff is nice and you can tell they want everything to be just right. This was seriously good Neapolitan style pizza. We had been wanting to try Pupatella since it opened, but the wait times were always super long. So we finally got around to ordering early. It was still busy and our order wasn't ready yet, so I waited in my car with a number they gave me in the windshield- it actually was a fairly effective solution. The pizzas are all one size, basically slightly larger than a personal size. The crust was light and fluffy, with a good salty taste to it, the sauce was a great mix of sweet and savory, and plenty of cheese. We will definitely be going back! read more

Pupatella does it again! I seriously LOVE this place. My husband and I traveled to Italy a few years back, and were lucky enough to stay in Naples. We became obsessed with Neapolitan pizza and there are only a few "official" AVPN designed pizza restaurants in America - Pupatella is one of them! So when they came to Reston we were stoked to say the least. We've ordered Pupatella almost every Friday for the past 3 months - call it COVID survival - worth it every time! Their staff is very friendly and efficient. I love all the safety protocols - online ordering, sit in your car for pick up, and now they added Curbside. I'm sitting in the comfort of my car, salivating as I await my pizza prize!! Do yourself a favor - have an open mind, do some research, and consider this special style of pizza before you hate on it ;) and Hey, when it's safe, maybe you'll visit Naples and fall in love with true Neapolitan pizza! Edit to add: if you don't want to wait too long, place an online order. They only allow a few orders per time slot, so order early in the day (for 5:30 pickup Friday place my order at noon!). Pros: I'm not easy to please (just look at my other reviews) but the Pizza at Pupatella's is amazing. It's indeed authentic Neapolitan pizza and once you try it, it's hard to go back to Dominos!! Cons: The pizza only comes in one size, just barely enough for a hungry adult. I often buy 2, eat my fill, and take the rest home. Also this place is hugely popular with the 20's something crowd. Think a College Town bar on a Saturday night for the level of noise and chaos here. Other thoughts: The ordering is done up at the cash register area, then you take a number and your food is eventually brought to you. Truly incredible pizza! We've been eyeing this location as it has inched closer to opening, eagerly anticipating the chance to try Neapolitan pizza that's DOC certified (I.e. authentic in methods and ingredients), and Pupatella Reston did not disappoint! The Classica is the platonic ideal of a perfect pizza: a chewy crust with a sourdough-like taste that's just the right amount of charred on the bottom; a beautiful, unaccented tomato sauce with a hint of sweetness, and fresh mozzarella that provides a smidge of saltiness to balance the whole bite. We will definitely be ordering again! The only negative was how long it took from ordering online to our food being ready (75 minutes). Hopefully that time gets shorter as this location moves closer to their official opening. The pickup process itself was very easy; we went in, gave the name on our order, they gave us a laminated number to put on our car, and they brought the pizza to our car when it was ready. First things first, ignore the haters. Every time a new location of a popular business opens, it's gonna be busy. They've only been around a couple weeks, and opened during a pandemic, so give them some slack. I knew they were busy so I placed my order hours in advance for a scheduled pick up. I got there, food was ready, no problem! I absolutely love Neapolitan style pizza. My wife and I went to Italy in 2019 and I ate more than my fair share of pizza. This was some of the best pizza I've had since traveling back from Italy. I had the Mimosa, which was a white pizza with sweet corn and prosciutto (and I added some basil for flavor) and oh my gosh, it completely blew all of my expectations out of the water. The cheese was melty and savory, the corn was perfect consistency, and the prosciutto was better than I could've hoped. Stumbled upon this place while driving to a place close by. What a wonderful place. Not sure if is a family-run place, but it seems as warm and inviting as I expect a family-run place to be. In an informal manner, the young man that waited on us provided excellent service. We had the bruschetta, a mushroom pizza and a sausage pizza. All were delicious. I have given this place as high of a rating as I did, because at the end of the day, you can walk in, sit down, and get food. Outside of that, it's very much not worth it. The host staff are practically asleep, the dine-in experience is awkward & uncomfortable, the menu is too specialized, and the food is just not good enough for the prices. Phenomenal, authentic Neapolitan style Pizza! By far my favorite Pizza in all of N Virginia. The DOC Margarita, Diavola, and the Chorizo Pizzas are all personal favorites. The real differentiator for Pupatella is the Authentic Pizza crust -- 48 hour rise, soft and pillowy, and yet thin. My wife and I had our honeymoon in Naples and we can say with certainty that Pupatella is very authentic pizza, on par with the greats in Naples! Pupatella uses the best ingredients imported from Italy, and it shows. Even the bricks of their pizza oven are imported from the clay of Mt. Vesuvius! They also have very affordable wine with great savings ($10 off) when you buy 2 pizzas. Their outdoor area is very nice with great fire areas to keep you warm in the winter. The indoor decorations look great, and will be enjoyable for all in the post-COVID era. The Pupatella Reston location was a long time coming and is a Pizza promise land for those Pizza lovers who can't make it into Arlington on a regular basis. read more

The Reston-Herndon area didn't really have a place for DOC-style pizza. Now it does. The light, crispy made to order pies here are authentic, tasty and fun. The gelato and interesting Italian-influenced bar selection add to the charm. The large patio is a simply delightful place to eat even if the views--a parking lot--aren't that special. Our first visit last night will be our last. The prices are way out of line with the quantity/quality of the pizza. In fairness, the menu (warns) diners that the pizza is about 11" (average dinner plate size) and advises each person order their own. But $14+ is way too much $ to pay for a tiny pepperoni pizza whose inner crust thickness is no thicker than a saltine cracker and soggy/limp at that! And despite coming to the table straight out of the oven piping hot,our pizzas seemed cold after about 5 minutes. The 'vibe' in this once-busy Pizza Hut location was a little weird too. Very slow service, took quite some time to be acknowledged at the entrance. After being seated, we were forgotten about until one of us mentioned it to a worker. Absolutely awful. The customer service here is pitiful. I never yelp, but this place should close the doors. Order wasn't started when was ordered. Had to wait. Pizza came very undercooked to chewy and barely any cheese. We definitely were shorted on the meatballs on the pie. We decided against the tiramisu and the manger rolled his eyes at us as we were inconveniencing him. There were 10 employees in there, zero customers and they still screwed it up. This was my first time and last time there. Horrible. Wouldn't recommend if I was starving. However, the gelato was excellent, but when wanted to cancel the tiramisu it was already paid for. The manager or employee rolled his eyes and actually said it was a 2 dollar difference. He actually wanted to refund the tiramisu on my credit card and make us pay for the another pint of gelato. We already had purchased one. The manager literally put 2 scoops on a cup and said this about 7 dollars worth and handed it to us with no cover on it. I first ate here when this restaurant first opened, and service was chaotic at best. However, we have gone there an average of once a month since then, and I'm very happy to say things have really turned around. Pizzas are made and delivered to tables quickly, they are quite tasty, and their lemonade is excellent as well. My husband is a fan of their beer selection. Overall not bad, but very uneven in terms of quality across four different take-out visits over a three month period -- and expensive. First visit I got the "gold standard" for Neapolitan pizza; the Margherita DOC which was good, but not good enough for the price so next time tried the Classica DOC. It tasted pretty much the same -- to the point I wondered if they even used Mozzarella di Buffala for the Margherita. Next trip out I tried the Capricciosa and was extremely disappointed. Very bland and sauteed mushrooms on Neapolitan (or any) pizza? Come on! Third choice was the Meatball Pizza, and again, disappointed -- bland, even the meatballs -- and burnt. Not a few yummy charred dough blisters, but the entire crust looked like charcoal. Suspect that if this had been an eat-in order it never would have made it out of the kitchen. My son's pizza was basically raw in the middle so thinking they had their "B Team" on the oven that night. Also have tried the Arancini and Mozzarella Ball appetizers, and again, not bad but nothing special, certainly not for the price. And before saying "Well you just don't understand Neapolitan pizza," full disclosure: I lived in Campania for three years with a Water Buffalo pasture practically in my back yard, and bought fresh mozzarella from the guy that milked the buffalo that morning...
