In my way to mammoth lake I was looking for something nice and quick to eat, everything was unexpectedly delicious!! Thanks guys !

The establishment was warm and welcoming to my friend and i as we first entered the coffee shop. its advertised that the shop is pet friendly, so we brought our little dog with us. we preceded to lounge in the shop when an Asian family came in with their dog. a woman behind the bar was incredibly rude to the family about their dog, questioning whether or not it was a service animal. our experience with our dog was the complete opposite...so we couldn't help but to wonder why she was discriminating against the family (their dog was perfectly mannered). in a short, stern tone, she then tells us to put our dog on the ground. we felt it was rude, but respected her request. she then continues to bicker with the Asian family about their dog, making the whole room uncomfortable. we had just gotten our coffee and started a game of chess, but decided to leave due to the uncomfortable environment. i think we all understand health codes and rules, but to communicate them so poorly by the woman behind the bar is a real shame, because this "dog friendly" environment was definitely far from friendly. read more

I'm a local who has used Pupfish for large events, and individual meals as well. Everything I have tried has been delicious. My go to is the tuna melt panini- to die for! The staff is welcoming and friendly. The outdoor seating is shaded and lovely! read more

Stopped at this spot on our drive back to LA. The food was delicious and the service was great! I ordered a tuna sandwich and it came with a side salad and the dressing was really good. We also ordered the waffle sandwiches and coffee cake. We will definitely be back next year. read more

This is such a great find tucked away behind Spellbinder books! DELICIOUS coffees and the BEST gluten free bread I've had in a long time! Their bread comes from a local bakery in mammoth, so we stopped there and got a loaf to bring back homeWe stopped in for breakfast on a Tuesday and again for lunch on Friday. Service was great both times. It is a small cafe and it can get busy but it's worth the wait. We will be back! read more

We stopped by here a few weeks ago during our backpacking trip, twice. This is an excellent coffee shop! We also got different food items here along with hot and cold coffee drinks. The service is great and food is excellent. Definitely our go to place every time we will be in that area. The outside seating is very nice. We really enjoyed the food and coffee here in the outside patio. Our dogs also appreciated the shade outside. read more

Tasty, but pricey. We stopped here on the way to Mammoth Lake for lunch. The place is TINY and not good for groups, although the four of us managed to cram around a little table. The food and awesome cafe vibe make up for it, though. The food is fresh and delicious and accommodates many different diets (including Whole30). I had the paleo breakfast with two eggs, adding avocado and salmon (maybe that's why it was so pricey, haha). It came over a bed of greens and a tasty pesto like sauce. For dessert, I opted for their signature dessert waffle which was crispy, with walnuts and strawberries and what tasted like house made whipped cream. My friends had some soups, sandwiches and an avocado/salmon toast which looked phenomenal, probably was because they didn't share. Coffee was good too. If you can't find the place, just go inside the bookstore and keep walking. read more

One woman show doing everything made me think I was watching the Tournament of champions cooking show! A local cafe in the backside of Spellbinder bookstore, you can either enter from the bookstore from the Main Street or directly enter from the rear the parking lot. The cafe has a very plain interior which is fine with me. Staffs here are very friendly. Cappuccino $3 is decent while Toasted Coconut Chocolate Chips Bar $4 is hearty, homemade and rich in every bite (high calories : XD) However, I can't recommend on their popular Mediterranean Avocado Toast $7.5. They use regular toast (I couldn't even taste it's Sourdough) and it's just toaster toasted. My ideal Avocado Toast should have well-toasted bread that has a crisp contrast against the creamy avocado. Toast on the cast iron with sprinkled olive oil is basic. Olives didn't help much with the flat taste. They told me I can add condiments like salt, pepper and sriracha at the counter but that's not how I like my Avocado toast. Perhaps the Avo toast is too healthy for my taste but I have to agree it's a quiet, friendly place for a cup of coffee or grab some homemade snacks. read more

This is a super neat find in Bishop! It is right off of Main Street and is connected to a book shop. The prices are great and there is a huge selection--even for picky eaters or those who are gluten free! I absolutely loved the breakfast waffle which comes with two liége waffles, an egg, and sausages. We stopped in for breakfast after several days camping and was delighted with every part of our experience. I had the Paleo Salad and cuppa good joe and hubby had the salmon toast and orange juice. We both enjoyed every bite. Heading back to the OC and wanted a cup of tea for the ride. They filled our personal mugs with hot water and our tea bags without a charge and let us brew our own with a little milk. I also popped into the bookshop at the front of their establishment and got some great gifts. So worth the stop. The last minute purchase of a few cookies were the perfect road snack. I make my own salad dressings, quiche, and bake with the best ingredients...only to find that this places uses all the same ingredients and more that I use. They make high quality food and gave me a few tips on what I can add to my own similar recipies to make them good as Pupfish. Once we found the place, we loved it. We're heading North into Bishop, and we are always looking for new fun places. Yelp came through again, and I'd encourage you to find this place and enjoy a meal of fresh ingredients and creative preparations. We had one of the avocado toasts and loved it. Ours had an Italian bent, served with strawberries and balsamic. We also had one of the house waffles, and you should check those out. While waiting to order, we noticed a Greek Salad, and it looked great. We had that too. While in line, we also noticed the coconut chocolate chip bar....and who are we to resist. We took those to go. Mine didn't make it to the end of town, gone, tasty, and, yep, i'm feeling guilty. Where exactly is the Pupfish Café. It's in the back of a bookstore, and we parked around the corner and up one block as we attempted to find it (where we used to stop when we were going to Raymond's, now gone). It was worth the effort and we will consider it on our future trips up and down HWY 395. read more

Sometimes there is an art to keeping it simple. That is when you find a hidden gem (yep, really hidden when you aren't a local) in the back of a bookstore in a small town. Once you find this place, it is definitely worth a stop in. It caters to the locals as well as those of us passing through. The menu here is on the smaller side, but it is absolutely perfect and covers all the basics. They only serve breakfast and lunch. There is a slightly more extensive menu for coffees in comparison. If you get there early enough you must try the waffle. It is so delicious (the plain one is almost dessert like) and the flavor is cooked right in. I am serious when I say get there early because they do sell out of the waffle. Not only was the food fresh and flavorful, but they have a wall of games. Now, that is how you complete a perfect breakfast. Indoor and outdoor seating when the weather is nice is available. There is a small parking lot behind the bookstore where the entrance is for the cafe. read more

Fun walking around the Spell Binder store with all the arts and crafts, than ordering up and eating out back..
