"Maddox" was GREAT--emphasis (sadly) on "was." Mr. Tony Maddox has sold the shop-per the website, to Pure Auto Repair (By the way, I live locally here in GA, not in San Franciso CA--not sure why Yelp is saying that!) I had not known the shop was sold, and took my car in 12/12/22 for a repair I'd scheduled with Tony last week. Discovered shop was sold Friday and opened under new management today. Didn't take them long to show how VERY different they were from the honest, efficient, reasonably-priced, honest, straight-shooting, and did I say honest? business that Tony has run for years! I had described my problem to Tony last week--he said it sounded like my window needed a new switch. Said he had a switch in stock. Said bring it first of week. I call today--and now Tony is an EMPLOYEE of the new owner. THEIR CSR Garret told me it WASN'T the switch--it was the regulator. Said (when I asked couldn't we just "TRY" putting in a new switch first, since I KNEW that the switch was broken) the new guy said the regulator was "cheaper" than the switch so we should try that first. Said it was the regulator that wasn't working because he could 'hear' the regulator 'clicking' when they used the passenger-side switch (Odd--it did NOT make ANY sound for me, last week, when the main drivers' side switch broke off, and it if isn't working, then why would it make any noise at all? Plus the window was functioning just FINE that morning UNTIL the switch literally broke on my driver's-side door!?) So (like a fool) I let them put in a regulator. Then the guy calls me back--oh, sorry ma'am, it WAS the switch after all--but I found a cheaper one so now it'll just be another $215 (on top of the $288 already being charged so NOW total is over $500!!!). In other words--the switch WAS CHEAPER than the regulator to begin with! They're now contradicting themselves, but "oh, no, ma'am, you really did need the regulator too"--even though the window had been working perfectly UNTIL the switch broke! And now he tells me "no we DON'T have the switch in stock" (even though Tony told me last week he DID have one in stock!) so not ready till tomorrow. At first I agreed to this, but then thinking better of it I decided to just get my car out of there, so asked them to get the window up and closed again and I'd have the repair done when I can better afford it. I know from experience with Tony it would have ONLY been a couple hundred dollars AT MOST, and ready the same day! Then when my husband came to pick it up, the CSR was trying to blame everything on TONY and say Tony had "worked it out with me to do the regulator"--when I spoke only to GARRET about what repairs that Garret said it needed! I am mourning for the GREAT auto mechanic I had found in Tony, and whose honest and professional service I was only able to enjoy such a short time. Seems all the GOOD mechanics are growing older and retiring--leaving us fewer and fewer choices to replace them! It's taken many years to find an honest, reputable local mechanic. But Tony & Tony (father-son team,) and their crew are just that. Obviously, I should have asked for friend recommendations sooner! Tony replaced the timing belt, serpentine, and water pump on my 2007 Honda Odyssey for less than half what the dealership quoted, and several hundred less than the local Goodyear. And Mr. Maddox didn't try to upsell me with unnecessary services. HIGHLY recommend Maddox Tire & Automotive for all your auto-mechanical needs. read more

Tony & Tony are frickin awesome! I've looked all of my life to find an honest mechanic and this father son duo and their crew are just that. When I take my car for an oil change, I get just that and not all of this mumbo jumbo bs as to how I need to get my 50,000 mile check up or this and that. If I need something repaired, they tell me honestly and show me why! They shoot me straight and sometimes teach me about my car. The price was reasonable and I felt comfortable talking with the mechanics as sometimes it proves challenging when you're a woman going into an auto repair shop, but not with these guys. I have used them twice. The first time seemed okay but two weeks after fixing my car the same problem started again so I used another mechanic. A part went bad on the work Maddox had done so I went back since should be under warranty. They would not honor the warranty. They next told me something was over working only to an hour later telling me it wasn't working at all. I took they car somewhere else and what Maddox said wasn't working the other mechanic tested and said it was fine. Nice bunch of people but wouldn't go there again. I did a tune up a couple weeks back with an independent mechanic (works for a dealer but this is his side hustle) who I felt did not do a good job plus the service light came on a week after that tune up. I took the car to Maddox since it was highly recommended and I was told they are "honest". I explained to them what happens and Tony said he will check it out and let me know. Tony calls me when at work and tells me that the tune up was good, however, what it needs is timing belt, o2 sensors and that should fix the problem. The cost will be $1200.00. I was hesitant but agreed since I believe they are honest. I go pick up the car and he assures me all is well.I drive out and make a right out of the parking lot and the car drives worse than I when I took it in. I turned around and returned the car back to the shop. Tony took my car for another test drive and admits the car is running rough. They take it into the shop and Tony comes back and tells me the car MIGHT NEED an ADDITIONAL $1200 because it appears what was replaced, did not fix the problem but was needed repairs. I informed him that I do not have an additional $1200 and I ended up leaving with a car worse than when I took it (misfiring now). I'm definitely going to file all kinds of complaints because I feel duped after I paid all that money. My car is running worse than when i took it in. read more

My timing belt broke on the way to work yesterday morning. I called Maddox about 10AM and they sent a tow truck to pick the car up immediately. By 1PM I received a call to confirm the belt was broken and a quote for repair. They also suggested I get a new water pump and serpentine belt while they were in there, but they weren't pushy about it. I was happy with the suggestion and the price and told them to proceed. They said since it was before 2PM they could probably have it done that day. I was skeptical, but said I'd be pleased if that were really possible. At 5PM they called again to say it was ready for pick-up. I arrived, chatted with the younger Tony about what they found, looked at the damaged parts, and was out the door before 6PM. To say I was extremely relieved and pleased to have my car back the same day would be an understatement. If you need your car worked on I can definitely recommend Maddox. read more
