I was shocked at the service. I walked in and the server who was working whom I think is the owner was on the phone non stop. I had to go up to the counter before she was willing to sit me down. I ordered the sizzling plate during happy hour that came with the side of meat. She had her phone in one hand and took my order. I mentioned multiple times that I wanted pork and chicken with vermicelli. She even repeated it back without writing it down. She then yelled into the kitchen and went back talking on her phone. When my order came, it was beef and chicken. I called her over and told her that I ordered chicken and pork and not chicken and beef. The chicken was cooked so dry but what was worse was the noodle was not even cooked properly. I called her over the second and that was when she finally hung up her phone call. I told her the vermicelli was not even cooked properly and showed her a piece of the color and she tried to tell me that it is like that. I told her that I had it at other places and never had I ever had the vermicelli where pieces of it were hard (please see photo). She said she will make me another and I told her no need. The food was almost unedible. The service was aweful. This place is never busy. This made sense given how bad the food was. read more

Beetle Leaf wrapped beef, Fried Shrimp wrapped over sugarcane 14.95 Thought this was a side, it was actually an entree, 3 pieces of beef and 3 pieces of fried shrimp on a bed of salad and vermicelli. The meat in my chicken vermicelli bowl with spring roll, and the pork vermicelli bowl with spring roll was one of the best most flavourful meats we've had in Vietnamese dishes here! I loved my spring roll that came with my bowl, and overall the meal was really tasty. The restaurant was extremely busy with take out orders; luckily we had found a good window and got attentive service. I ordered the iced tropical dessert/ Che Ba Mau on the menu as something to cool down with which is maybe something unique to those who aren't familiar with this very famous combo. of treats: red bean, coconut milk, mung beans, bright green agar agar over milk. MMMMM! So good here for those who like this type of dessert. It was too hot for pho, but I'm excited to try that in the colder months. read more

Really disappointed to see they significantly raised their prices in the last couple of weeks. Pho that used to cost $14.50 is now $18.00, which is really expensive for what you get. Their prices have doubled in the last four years. Its understandable to pay $18 for a burger that contains 1/3 to 1/2 pound of beef, but it seems crazy for noodle soup that maybe contains 50g of meat. read more

If you want a spicy banh mi, you'll get one of the spiciest banh mi in town if you get the banh mi with siracha and peppers. If you the traditional banh mi (what they call special vietnamese ham), it's solid. Other dishes can be hit or miss. Lemongrass dishes are decent. Bun bo hue (called hue's spicy beef soup on the menu) is incredibly bland. Service seems quick and prices are pretty standard for the neighborhood. read more

One line review: Good food, uneven service. Took one of my staff here for lunch during an all day staff meeting. We had: -Chicken and spring roll vermicelli - Beef, shrimp, and pork sausage vermicelli The food was tasty. It was a slightly smaller portion than expected. I still got plenty to eat, but there were no leftovers (not like usual for me). Service was mediocre; we were ignored a couple of times, and the server seemed kind of unfriendly. He was busy, but... If I were breaking it down, I would give 4 for the food, 2 for the service. To be fair, I have had better service in this same restaurant, so it really is better sometimes. Really solid food at good value. I had the vegan Tropical Rice Dish: salad, lotus veggies, tofu, and spring roll with rice. The inclusion of the spring roll was what made me decide to get this particular item, and I'm really glad I did because this was one of the best spring rolls I've had. I'm not sure what they used as a meat substitute in the filling but it was delicious - it had a rich but not meaty flavour and gave the filling a hearty, chewy texture, and the wrapper was perfectly crispy. The tofu and lotus pieces were also tasty and cooked perfectly. The salad was very fresh. Even the plain rice was fantastic: there was nothing "special" about this, they just managed to get everything just right. The portion size was just right for me: I left feeling satisfied but not overly full. I also had the Iced Coconut Drink (coconut water and/or juice with pieces of coconut meat) and thought it was good - sweet but pleasant flavour and a lot of coconut meat, but not so much that it took away from the "drink" part of the drink. The only downside was that it took a really long time for us to get our food after ordering. I wasn't watching the clock, so I'm not sure of the exact time, but it was an unusually long wait considering the restaurant had only a modest crowd eating in and the flow of takeout was also pretty mild. Aside from the wait, the service was very polite, and the waitress did stop by to let us know our food was still in progress after we'd waited for a while. I liked the unpretentious atmosphere. It's nice to see they have so many vegan dishes, and I'd definitely go back to try more on occasion, but the wait time (if it's consistently this long) would prevent me from making myself a regular here. read more

I'm not usually on this side of town, but after seeing their extensive vegan menu, we decided to grab take-out for lunch. My wife split the lemongrass tofu salad rolls ($6.95 plus tax) and each got the spicy noodle soup ($11.95 plus tax). The order was ready in ~10 mins. The salad rolls were very tasty, with nicely seasoned tofu and a well-done peanut sauce. Nothing extraordinary here, but these were definitely solid. 4/5 The soups were very plentiful: large serving of noodles, mixed veggies, and tofu, with the usual toppings (sprouts, lime, basil). The broth was very tasty and comes in a generous portion, being gently spicy, but on the pretty mild side as far as pho goes (even for a spicy version). These certainly left us quite full. Enjoyable. 4/5 I'd definitely return if on the far west side again. I might try their other noodle soups (the vegan crab and tomato, and the vegan curry & vermicelli noodle soups both look interesting). Reasonably priced, generous portion, and very tasty. My first visit. Guy sitting outside said it's his regular spot and food is great. I ordered 2 prawn slad rolls and lemongrass beef for take out. Got home and the salad rolls were completely different sizes, I tried to eat them and the rice wrapper was so hard in places that I had to spit it out. They seemed old and not freshly made. There was a 1 smelly prawn in each and just noodles and lettuce. I have made better at home. The other dis was ok, nothing spectacular, did nt have any lemon grass flavour. B.t.w my food looked nothing like the peoles eating at the this place. Left a message, someone called back and kept saying ok, ok, when I said are you listening....hung up on me. Very dissapointing. A good Pho joint doesn't need to be complicated. Just have really good soup, a few extras, and a humble atmosphere This place hits it out of the park in all those important parameters. Extremely hot inside the restaurant in the summer. I guess I'm done going to this restaurant. The size and quality of the spring rolls I ordered yesterday had gone downhill. Very skinny, hardly any filling, and disappointing. I've ordered the chicken noodle pho for about five times. It tastes fine, but they could improve it so much by cleaning the chicken of fat and what might have been cartilage, before serving it. There is nothing more disgusting than having to pick stuff out of your soup or mouth. Service is hit and miss. I had a gentleman server the other day that didn't say one word to me during my entire visit to the restaurant. Contrast that to the ladies, who are talkative and very nice. What a transformation! I wouldnt want to step foot in the old Vietnamese restaurant that used to be at this location, but Pure Delight has totally renovated and made this place into a great restaurant! I recommend the fried pork chop on rice (or vermicelli) with a fried egg. The pork chop (cut like LA ribs) is incredibly tender. The bit of sauce that rubs off onto the rice or vermicelli makes them taste amazing too. Add a perfectly fried egg and you're good to go! The meal also includes a fresh side salad with some pickled cucumber and carrots. The lemon grass chicken is also good, but definitely the pork chop is THE must try. P.S. Tried the pot stickers (they were deep fried unlike the photo on the menu). Taste was fine nothing mind blowing. read more

He regretted that since we were only looking for something vegan, he was unable to direct us to the more well received items on the menu. Cold September nights call for a giant bowl of pho! It was my first visit here, and calling in my order to go was easy and it was ready in 10 minutes. The space has lots of seating, is very clean and welcoming. The rare beef noodle pho was really good! The soup came piping hot (extra important when picking up to-go), and it came with all the standard add ons (basil, bean sprouts, lime, hoisin and sriracha). The broth was rich and flavorful, and not too salty like I found Japolo nearby to be. My only qualm was the beef was quite tough. Still good, just not very tender. Maybe it was on off cut. The veg were ok, but obvs the cheapest and not many and no tofu or even a mushroom swimmin around in there. This was a great experience for the whole family. The menu had plenty for omnivors and vegans, which is a real treat for us. The portions were large, one $10 plate can feed two people. Our kids (ages 8 and 10) devoured their food and want to return soon to try more dishes. The service was good. We had the vegan spring rolls, prawn summer rolls, popcorn mushrooms, grilled beef on vermicelli, grilled pork and prawns on vermicelli, lotus fried rice, and the vegan fried noodles. Way too many things wrong. Where do I even begin? This restaurant would be the perfect candidate for "Kitchen Nightmares." The top 10 are: 1) They're extremely under-staffed (one cook, one waiter); 2) Waited a full hour for my order (my parking meter expired); 3) Portion size was a third smaller than what it used to be (a year ago); 4) They gave me the wrong order, apologized, said it would take longer; 5) Adding insult to injury, I was charged full price for a meal I never got; 6) Their prices have since gone up (compared to last year), and pricey; 7) They've removed one of my most favourite dish off their menu; 8) Diners next to me were upset; they left their meal untouched and left; 9) Inconsistent food and service; 10) There's better Vietnamese restaurants elsewhere, just avoid this one. A pretty decent vietnamese restaurant. I was craving some hot pho in the cold weather and decided to go some where close to home. I got the large size, and instantly regretted it when it came because it was HUGE. My usual pho place had smaller portions so I guess I just got used to getting "large". The pho tai bo vien has your standard beef broth. It was very light and tasty but I felt that there was not enough beef flavor, it wasn't rich. The grilled lemon grass chicken and pork chop rice was pretty good. Meat was very tender and the outer layers were slightly crispy which adds a different texture to the dish. Overall, enjoyed the place, it didn't really "wow" me per se, but I would still come back again when my vietnamese food cravings come. read more

My co workers and I used to come here every week for lunch. Even when we moved to a further location we would still make the drive to come here. Portions for their rice plates are great; I always have left overs for dinner. However the quality of their broth is inconsistent, and the pho at times take way too long to come out. Especially during lunch we've only got an hour to spare. There has been times when my order came out after waiting 40 mins and I only had 5 mins to eat. There is always a shortage of staff and I always feel bad for the only person working especially during busy lunch hours. The last straw was when my co worker found a toothpick in his half eaten pho. Who knows if it was a used toothpick or not. That is a very serious safety hazard and could have choked him. The owner just apologized, brought out a new bowl, but didn't comp his meal. Extremely disappointing considering we are weekly customers. We don't come here anymore and drive further out to get our weekly pho fix. read more
