I love this place to self wash my dog. Their tubs move up and down with a pedal which is nice as my dog weighs 86 pounds and is afraid of jumping, I have struggled getting him into high tubs before and this helps with your back as well. They supply you with everything, including shampoo, a towel, and a dryer which is so awesome. I always come on Wednesdays as the wash is only $10!! The self wash area could be a bit cleaner, but overall so worth it for the price. The employees are also always so friendly as well. read more

Nice grooming salon. Clean, parking is good. I just used the self wash. Tubs move up and down so you can adjust height. Also have a door for easy access for the dog. Liked the adjustable dryer. They provide shampoo. I would like a grate in the tub to keep the dogs from standing in water. That's my only suggestion. Also, the price is right. read more

Never coming my back here. They gave my dog an ear infection from ripping out her ear hair too rough and didn't even ask if it was okay that it was done! She is also cut all crooked and doesn't look good at all. It's also disgusting they have dogs fur on the walls and nasty nails that have been cut in baggies. That stuff holds so much dander. The place doesn't look very clean either. What a mistake and upset about the vet bill resulting from this ear infection. 500 dollar vet bill and vet advised us NOT to pull out ear hair as it helps prevent infection. ATTENTION FELLOW VETERANS AND FAMILIES: A disappointment in short, if only dogs could speak. The truths we would know. Dropped my westie, a proclaimed favorite of the owner, Mike, off for a grooming today. Short and sweet, her coat already set to a short length with the Westie skirt growing in. Should I also go to the length of mentioning my medical background and profession in cosmetology and barbering. So I can definitely tell a wound, and even more so an even haircut. The receptionist didn't even make eye contact upon entry in an empty shop, and the owner came up with another dog in hand, only to elbow me in the face upon the pass off of my dog, while he only has one free hand. Thanks for the apology, but still unprofessional. Who knows where she could have gone then. We were told an estimate of 2-3 hours and Mike stated it would be even shorter than that time. Needless to say it was done in 2, but she wasn't even started after 1, and left to hangout in a crate until her turn was up. Communication carries its weight in gold in a small business like this. A heads up that other dogs were waiting, would simply allow us to drop her off later on in the day. Cutting the wait time in half. However, upon the second hour passing, we came by and the haircut was finished. Of course, who wouldn't inspect to make sure there's no cuts or bruises on their dog. Mike definitely didn't greet us this time upon entering and even seemed frustrated, which pushed me to inspect even further. Not to mention she never snaps at me but, she did so when she was handed off to me. How my stomach dropped when I had seen fresh blood in her nails and around the base of the nail. Also dried into the fur of one paw and remnants of the other nails. "They were cut as short as I possibly could", you can tell that styptic was used, in fact he had an empty bottle. This was definitely cut way past the quick on a majority of the nails. I asked "is it normal for her to bleed", with no response, the receptionist had to grab him for me. He had then come out, picked her up by the collar with no respect to myself, WATCH OUT ANYONE with PTSD, and carried her back leash and all, to empty a bottle of styptic powder onto the nail. As she squirmed I asked kindly to put her down, "it's actually better if I do it like this", which I then stated to put her down, as she ran to me, and whoever's dog was on the table already, if you smell the powder. It was definitely because it was blown all over her. Imagine the feeling cutting your own nails too short and watching them bleed. He blamed this on "a mole" which then quickly became a "skin tag", maybe if you had been careful these things can be avoided. But from the inner base of the nail? I can guarantee that wasn't "just a skin tag, and not my fault", the exact words that would give away it was your own fault. I asked politely if there would be compensation, to be met by an attitude, and the receptionist who claimed not to be the boss, now having an opinion "we sped the time up as our cuts normally take 2-3 hours", guess what it was 2, so the exception put us exactly at the estimated time the service would take. Mike didn't explain, and definitely had no other option other than to say "I can't help you", no compensation short and sweet, who could later tell how much I care about the service provided. A poor professional and less than tactful choice as he spoke disrespectful banter about my pregnant wife and I, as the receptionist, who we still don't know the name of, smiled and laughed upon our exit. What was once asked as a compensation, after the hiccup Mike performed on our poor dog's paws. I can't even bear the thought of how she felt. I didn't ask for it free, but he shoo'd me out and said to not charge us. There was no middle ground here apparently. Did you know?: That the quick Mike had cut, these blood vessels take weeks to actually heal properly? Have your fair share at trying this place out, this was my own experience, with pictures after the blood was dried amidst the rest of the experience. Seriously, best wishes and holiday's blessings to you and your family and your own dogs. As well as anyone else that took the time to review this place before trying it out. Your extensive background in petsmart, petco and education with the youth shows in other experiences on yelp. But definitely not mine. I dont appreciate being spoken to behind a wall, ignored or laughed at on the way out of a building. Truthfully, this experience could have gone much differently and I hope it does for someone else. Mike has been a godsend with our sweet but very scared 13 year old Pomeranian, who is a rescue and is hard to handle at the groomer. We are really really picky with who handles our dog. With that being said we are a proud owner of our rescue dog Mochi. He is awesome with us at home but is hard to groom because he is a very timid dog and runs out of patience. We have been to Pure Grooming a total of 3 times and each time we go not only does Mochi look fantastic.... he is getting much more comfortable (which is a huge win-win.) We book his appointments atleast a week ahead because they can book up pretty fast (which in my opinion is a great sign.) Each time we go we request Mike. Mike is AWESOME!! He takes his time, is very consistent, friendly, and is thorough if you have questions (first time dropping Mochi off, I was that nervous mom so trust me Mike is great!) Went here for the first time, and couldnt be happier. Mike did a great job on our Sheepadoodle (Old English Sheepdog / Poodle). We know she is not an easy dog to groom, between the coat itself and she can be a little fussy, but Mike's attitude and groom were great! he also seemed to know a lot of small details, like knowing to leave longer hair around her eyes if they were blue, or the symmetry of her face to make her more doodle, and less poodle. maybe those are all typical things groomers should know, but we've never had a groomer point out small details like that to us. Also, his pricing was very reasonable! the location was convenient, parking was easy, and the store was clean and professional. This was the second trip to Pure Grooming for little Hanna. She's a 1.2 y.o. Maltese shitzu mix and she has a very cautious personality. I love the job that Pure Grooming does and will definitely continue to take her here even though I love downtown and it's in Poway. But definitely worth the drive. They cut her hair beautifully and she smelled incredible afterwards and her fur was incredibly soft. Most importantly she was happy. It's rare for me to be able to walk away from Hanna without her freaking out. But she feels comfortable here and she doesn't get anxious at all which is great. This place is the best!!! My dog is impossible to groom - petco and regular groomers won't even take her, and we had to try to groom her at home before we found pure grooming. Mike at Pure grooming does such a good job with her, he is so experienced with difficult dogs and always manages to get the whole grooming done without any problems! when I've taken my dog to other places like petsmart she's come back with little nicks and scrapes - never had that with Pure grooming. This is our go to place now for our dog and we're so happy to have found it! I took my cat there for a bath service and it was a horrible experience. My cat just got a bath with nail trim and gland expression. When I came in to pick my cat up. I was told that he did not like blow dry so he was air dry in the cage. I could understand that because my cat did not like the sound of dryer. But I could blow dry him at home by myself. The worst part was that I found out one of his nails was bleeding. When I got home, I checked and found three bloody nails. This was the first time it happened to him. I have a short haired dachshund, so I haven't had the need for an amazing groomer, but after his disk surgery, I wasn't comfortable taking him to Petco. Petco has a $25 deal called the Pawdicure Plus which includes nail clipping, ear cleaning and teeth brushing. Since it is a short service, they allow walk-ins for it, which I like. Though they have always done a fine job and have been friendly, I do feel as though they are a bit rough with the animals in order to get them in and out quick. Two months post surgery and now considered a senior dog, my pup is a bit fragile so I wanted to go to more of a "homey" shop. I noticed the Pure Grooming sign while going to Starbucks and decided to give them a call. The woman on the phone informed me that they do in fact have a similar package called The Healthy Pet Package for $27, which includes everything that the Pawdicure Plus does as well as a 15 minute hair brushing. Even better is that they too, accept walk ins. I informed her of my dog's surgery and she assured me that the groomers are very kind and having worked with dogs of all ages and health statuses. I took him in the following weekend and was greeted by two men working, who were both very outgoing and friendly. They took my dog right away and had no problem using only his harness and not the usual collar as he cannot wear those anymore due to the surgery. It was fast and painless. Very NICE! It took a week to get an appointment, but worth the wait! Historically speaking, taking my dog, Mika, to the groomer has been a very stressful experience for everyone involved. When I called to schedule the appointment, I briefed them on Mika's behaviors and preferences. I explained that Mika's vet had given us sedatives for times like this. I was told, "Mike", was great with dogs like mine and that a sedative was not necessary. Hmmmm okay! Our little Mika isn't the easiest to get along with...ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A GROOMER. Mika's anxiety is through the roof! The second she figures out she is headed to the groomer, she morphs into a gremlin of sorts. Shivering, shaking, giving mean looks, twitching upper lip, showing her teeth, wiggling out of her harness, trying to escape...It's a scene. When we entered Pure Grooming, it was quiet, no other dogs around, no loud dryers going off. We were greeted by Mr. Mike himself! Mr. Mike was friendly, calm guy who wasn't the least bit rattled by Mika's fit. Immediately impressed! Mike took his time letting Mika become comfortable with him and the new surroundings. Mika was suspicious at first, but stopped the temper tantrum before we left the store. AGAIN, we were impressed! Mike taking his time with Mika was brilliant! Later in the grooming process, Mika was pulling attitude with another groomer...Mike walked over and POOF! Mika was willing to do whatever Mike wanted. THANK THE HEAVENS ABOVE! I have to say, Mike is the best! He's knowledgeable, honest and really cares about your four legged baby. I made an appointment for full service groom for our golden retriever and when Mike saw her, he made a couple recommendations. He wasn't pushy or persistent, but explained why he recommended a few things. He was upfront about the cost so we knew what to expect. After a couple hours we picked up our girl and she had one of the better cuts we've seen! What I loved most is how she felt at home. I found this groomer thru Yelp and I'm happy I did. I have 2 Maltese/Yorkie mix dogs and so far I've been very pleased with their care and haircuts. My littlest puppy it 7 months old and is completely crazy and can't sit still. I always worry that they'll have a hard time and they won't be able to cut his hair right, but they always manage to make him look so good! The workers are all friendly and excellent at what they do. The shop always looks clean and smells good. I'd definitely recommend this place! Update: I've now taken my dogs there about 5 times and still very pleased with this place! I have a six toed (polydactyl) cat. I used to trim her claws (she hates it) but cut them too short once and hurt her :-( now I'm afraid to do it and they grow thick and curly. My vet charges $20 to do them and is about half an hour away. (I don't know who is more traumatized, her or me!) Enter this place. A guy from Petco referred me since Petco doesn't do cats. So when I saw the ad in a local Poway advertisement, I knew that I had to take our pup there! Sierra greeted me this morning and guided me throughout the entire process. As it was Sammie's first public washing...she was nervous at first, but was so grateful when I got done. I did the self-wash ($15). They have 2 tubs and all the supplies you need; a leash to hold them in place, the tub is on hydraulics to go down & up as needed, spray washer with multiple settings, 3 different types of pre-diluted shampoos (which work amazing!), a blow dryer, brushes, treats to keep your pet happy, a variety of post-shampoo sprays and an apron and cubbie for your stuff!
