I'm giving Putterham Grille five stars for their takeout, which my family has had every few weeks during COVID. They literally became our comfort food of choice especially at the beginning. Their chicken dinner for four can't be beat. Their shrimp/lobster risotto-stuffed haddock is awesome- but be warned, one meal is more than enough for two! We seldom went before the pandemic (can't say I love the ambiance of the restaurant) but we get takeout there all the time and are so grateful they are there. Oh! And their hummus, which you can buy by the container, is the best I have had outside the Middle East. Their pita is also excellent. read more

Unbelievable BRUNCH!!!!! I don't know why these guys don't advertise, my friends told me to bring my family for brunch on Sunday. Highly recommend to try pancakes! A rare gem; quiet, comfortable ambiance with an interesting(!) YES! menu that challenges your taste buds preferences . . . What am I going to have? within reasonable limits! And allows me and my diner/partner spouse to look forward to "having a taste" but allowing the other his/her peculiarities! I had Putterham Grille cater a meeting today. Breakfast was a major hit with my team; the homemade yogurt (yogurt parfait cups with berries and granola) was the best yogurt they had ever had. The breakfast sandwiches were also so much better than all the other caterers we use. Even the coffee was a big hit. Lunch was a salad with cranberry/almonds/mandarin oranges/green apple slices with goat cheese and executive sandwiches. They even separated the vegetarian sandwiches in their own containers. The team LOVE this caterer and I do too. I will definitely be stopping in and getting food to bring home. Wow. So impressed! All was delivered on time ! I HIGHLY recommend!!!!! read more

After a long period of time, the waiter finally came to take our order. When the food finally arrived, everyone of the party received their order correctly except my wife. The waiter sent back to the kitchen and came back that my wife's meal would take at least 15 min. When the meal finally came, everyone was finished with their meal's.... while my wife was eating, the waiter took all the plates off of the table. My friend also ordered a beer and had to ask the waiter three times for hi beer until he finally got his beer. With all that said, they did not try to offer us anything to make the experience better. Ugh... I really wanted to like this place because it's so close to where I live, but my recent experience was nothing to brag about. I will start off by saying that the food was decent - the burger was tasty and the chicken pesto wrap is good too - and the homemade potato chips - really good. Unfortunately that's where the praise ends. The prices are ridiculously expensive. I guess I should have expected that in Brookline though. But I don't think local businesses should rip people off just because they are located in a wealthy area. I went online, so I knew what the prices were before I ordered, but when I showed up to pick up the food - the prices were completely different. Their excuse? "Oh - the online prices aren't correct." I find this to be a dishonest business practice. I already felt that the prices were a bit high and then to find out they were even more? I felt ripped off. The burger is listed as $8.99 and included fries. They didn't cook the burger to order and the price of that was more too - cheese, etc... but none of that was noted on the menu. The wrap alone was $8.99 and it didn't include chips or anything on the side. Chips were an extra $1.99, yet their menu says they are $1.25 when you order them with a wrap. They said that was a misprint. The wrap and chips just were not worth $11. When I read through their printed menu at the restaurant multiple items were crossed off and higher prices were written in. I finally took them to task on it since they were charging me extra dollars on almost every item on my order. They're response? They gave me a $1 off. That's not even what I wanted. I just wanted to pay the price that was listed. Honor the prices that you post or update your menu. Very unprofessional. read more

I went to Putterham Grille today 5/13/12 for a Mothers day/ to also celebrate 2 birthdays with my family. We had made reservations for 11 two weeks in advance. When we got the restaurant we were told that there was a prefixed menu for $50 a person. We were not informed of this and kind of was upset because we were looking forward to ordering off the menu. We let the hostess know our concerns and right away were told no problem you may order from the menu.We were relieved and instantly happy. I don't think any other restaurant would ever do that but I was grateful they made a exception for us. The food is delicious I had the chicken Kebob a few other had the salmon and chicken Marsala and I was told all of those were delicious as well. The costumer service here is awesome and I would definitely eat here again. I actually cannot wait to eat there again. :) read more

We had Putterham Grille for our office one day. Catering was great. Apparently, this place is owned by a Greek family and you could taste it. The hummus and tzatziki was the best I've ever had and I've had a lot! The roasted veggies were so perfect. The eggplant parm was amazing - great sauce! Even the toasted pita bread was delicious. We were the first couple for dinner at 4. They were not ready for business. Ordered an appetizer and baked haddock along with the eggplant dinner. No haddock after 10 minutes, pick something else please, no specials either. Apps took forever and chicken kabob was a leftover from the past weekend. Eggplant was awful and the pasta overdone and tasteless. Advice to anyone tempted to dine there wait till you see a few people there and don't order the kabob or eggplant! read more

Iced tea glass was delivered by slamming it and spilling..the oil and vinegar delivered the same way. My wife and I had only been in the Putterham Grille for a reception for a local photographer but the hors d'oeuvres were quite good so we thought we try it for dinner. And now we're glad we did. We cleverly went at 5:45 on a Tuesday so it was relatively quiet (although it filled up a good bit while we were there). While waiting for our app, we enjoyed the bread dipped in olive oil. It seemed to be almost a lightly grilled pita but, whatever it was, it was very good. We shared the calamari appetizer and, as a calamari fan, it was outstanding - one of the best I've ever had. Lightly battered and perfectly fried, they were accompanied by a very tasty sauce with just the right amount of zip. My wife had the haddock special with risotto and it was rich and delicious. I had the lamb shank with risotto - also rich and delicious. We had plenty of leftovers for the next day. The wine, a nice tempranillo, was a generous pour - I'd guess 6 oz or so. Service was attentive and friendly - kudos to Victor - and we will most certainly be back. Our only regret is that we waited so long to discover this gem. read more

Came in on a Friday night. Service was slooooowwwwww. The waitress did not seem on top of it. Asked for a manager and they sent the person that was working the counter at the deli. Went here for a nice Sunday lunch. Not very busy at all. Waitstaff was very friendly and attentive. Lunch menu was good sized and our table each got different sandwiches as they looked really appetizing. We also had a soup (forgot which one). we stopped at the Putterham after visiting the Larz Anderson auto museum. It was late for lunch and before dinner so we had the place to ourselves. all four of us enjoyed our meals. The pastrami was extremely tender, the BLT was loaded with bacon and the Chicken finger appetizer was plentiful and tasty. It is rare to find a location where all four of us enjoy our meals. I had a wonderful meal at Putterham Grille. The greek salad was one of the best I've ever had - The feta cheese is outstanding! I had a special with fish and shrimp with breaded topping and a squash risotto with lobster sauce. My friend had the Veal Marsala - she said it was one of the best she's ever had (she's a bit of a Marsala connoisseur). The warm rice pudding with cinnamon was excellent. Finally, we selected Putterham as our spot for dinner because we were looking for a restaurant in the chestnut hill area with good reviews and that was "kid friendly." We dined with my friend's 3 year old. We ate early (5:30p) and saw one baby when we were there. Come prepared with crayons (etc) to keep little ones engaged! read more

We have been to the Putterham Circle Shops many times but have never been to the Putterham Grille. So we decided to try it based on other people's suggestions. I read a few reviews stating that the food was excellent with maybe a touch of attitude by the staff. We were greeted promptly and seated quickly. There were about 4 other parties already seated when we arrived. My wife ordered a Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken (extra) and I had The Times Square sandwich, basically a Reuben but with hot pastrami instead of corned beef. We also split a bowl of the Avgolemono soup and shared a plate of Galaktoboureko for dessert. Everything was excellent, the food, the service, but no attitude by the staff. We were not rushed and our waitress fully answered our many questions. What were people talking about? We found nothing wrong! We're ready to go back again to try their dinner menu. But things fell apart when the check came. We were overcharged for the chicken on my wife's salad by $2.00 AND another $2.00 for the dessert. We called the waitress to have the bill corrected and she apologized for the error, but another staff member came over with her and tried to tell us that we were given the wrong menus (one for the lunch and another for the dessert) and that was after he tried to blame the error on the computer. ("The computer did it" excuse is just so 1990s or government). The guy that accompanied our waitress did not like my attitude when I reminded him that the price on the menu is the price that must be charged. Will we go back? Probably. Maybe. We have enjoyed Putterham Grille as a neighborhood restaurant for years, but tonight we had an extraordinary experience. We ordered delivery. I don't usually like take-out and delivery tends to be worse. Food arrives late, is no longer hot and simply not as good as home cooking or eating at the restaurant. Not true for Putterham! Our food arrived quickly and was hot, fresh and delicious. It is the best take out or delivery by far that we have had anytime from any place. This will now be our go-to restaurant when I don't feel like cooking. read more

The Chicken Saltimbocca, Pumpkin ravioli, Sausage Pepper and Onions, Antipasti and Caesar Salad were absolutely fabulous. Sean's suggestions and knowledge as to how much to order is always on the spot! Never too much or too little, perfect. The staff works like clockwork having everything ready on time and with proper instructions. I've had 2 weddings and 1 eightieth birthday catered by Putterham Grille and am looking forward to booking a 3rd wedding soon. My husband and I love the gluten free offerings and have dinner there once or twice a week because of the extensive offerings and supurb quality of the food served. We are never disappointed. My only wish is that I lived closer, I am about 20 miles away but it's worth it. If I lived closer I would never cook again. Oh, did I mention the Balsamic Glazed Salmon, Braised American Lamb Shank, etc. etc. and the fact that I can have a glass of wine with my fab meal. Did I die and go to heaven? My brother recommended this restaurant for a birthday dinner and we were all a little hesitant based on the fact that it was quiet on a Saturday night - but this is literally the definition of a hidden gem! The lemon chicken soup was probably the best soup I've ever had! I think I would come back here for this soup alone! We also had amazing stuffed mushroom appetizers! We were a party of 7 - I had lamb tips and others had lamb shank, country fried chicken, baked haddock and chicken parmesan! All were delicious. They are disrespectful and treat their wen workers badly. Terrible restaurant. I ordered from the gluten free menu and inquired about gluten in menu items, but they fed me wheat pasta anyway! It was orzo so I thought it was rice, and I ate a good amount before asking about it. When I did ask, the server had the nerve to claim that I had not asked about gluten free. why would they put the dish on the gluten free menu if it was not gluten free? Our server was also apparently the manager, and I saw him being really creepy to the hostess, grabbing and touching her without asking, as well as being generally rude to her for no reason I could see. I don't want to eat at a restaurant that treats its women employees like that. Disgusting. read more

I went with a party of eight last Friday, and had the veal marsla. The veal was mediocre at best, but the sauce and pasta were good. However, the service was horrendous! First of all, two of our friends got there a little earlier, but were not served water or offered bread until the whole party arrived. Even after we arrived, we had to wait a long time before bread was given, even though the neighboring party got theirs (but they were seated after). While we were waiting for the meal to come, our waitress came by and asked if we would like water refills, but did not bring a water jug with her. After some people said yes, she went away to get water for us. It was a little strange, but no big deal. Half way through the meal, I picked up my water glass and noticed visible grease on the inside. When I shook the glass a little, the water easily moved the blobs of grease around. It was disgusting!! I showed this to a waiter, who went ahead and said something along the lines of oh yikes, but did not offer me a new glass. I had to share one with my bf for the remaining meal. The same waiter came by at another time and asked my friend if he would like his food packed up. This would have been ok if we were done eating, but several of us, including this particular friend, were still working on their meals. It was rude and completely out of place. We felt like we were being rushed out of there, but there were multiple empty tables in the restaurant at the time. Over all, the meal was mediocre and the service was the worst I've seen to date. And oh, they add on an automatic 20% gratuity, but they do not have that written anywhere on their menu or on their website. Maybe it was an off night, but I would never go back again, and my friends left with the same impression. I want to like a local place, but this was just a terrible experience. read more

I had dinner here about 2 weeks ago and found my dining experience to be nothing more than "okay". The atmosphere is homey and quaint. The menu isn't that large but I was able to find something that I thought suited my adventurous taste. Most of the appetizers/entrees in here were not really representative of the Greek lunch menu. I was looking for authentic Greek food but it seemed as though this was more of an Italian/American grille. My friend had an entree that she enjoyed it was some kind of chicken dish. I did not however like the flatbread pizza I had-- I found it to be nothing special and bland. Our server was extremely attentive and helpful although I probably would not dine here again due to this "eh"experience. The takeout here is fabulous but it is an entirely different menu. They have no personality and act like they can't wait to get out of the place. One of the male waiters roamed the room looking downright hostile. The kitchen is on one side of the dining area and the cleanup area is on the other side. Wait staff hustle between the two. No kidding - going between tables with large bins of food waste and dirty dishes. Our table was next to the cleanup room. It's behind a sloppily-closed curtain revealing a rather nasty looking sink and counter. Extremely unappetizing. The food is way overpriced. My chicken kabob dish ($15.95) consisted of overdone chicken and a few pieces of green pepper and onion, none of it on a skewer. It was served on what certainly appeared to be plain white rice, although the menu proclaimed it to be homemade pilaf. My husband got one of the "specials," "country-fried chicken," ($19.95). Fried-to-death chicken is what we called it. It was served with a mangy grilled cob of corn and a large bowl of cranberry sauce that probably came from a can. Won't be going there again. Too bad, because we can walk there from our house. We were there last night, a Friday. It was about half full. That's surprising, considering how awful the place is. read more
