I'm a big fan of Spanish and Greek ethnic food and tapas. Putterham Grille was a great find! This local restaurant in Chestnut Hill is definitely worth a visit! To start, I would like to mention that the place is very clean and organized. Usually one of the main indicators to look out for are - wine glasses. What can I say - they were spotless! The entire place is very well maintained and managed. This Greek restaurant has great people working with them. Our server was very professional and very knowledgable about the menu and we took some of his tips on the list! Ethnic Greek food tasted unbelievable! I had a lamb kebab with rice pilaf and my wife got a delicious blue cheese sirloin steak. I could not refuse to have a slice of that :) Everything was reasonably priced and worth every penny. Moreover, 2 weeks since my first visit ny company had a corporate meeting and I was in search of a good place where I could order food for 30+ people. I called Putterham and spoke with the catering manager. The order was placed within 3 minutes. They delivered everything to our office location on time, nice console tables were installed and food, as always, was unbelievable. Tried Putterham Grill and was not dispointed. This is one of thebest veal parms i have ever had!! All the pasta is home made. if they have a special o butternut squash/pumpkin ravioli you must try it. We had two outstanding waitstaff, Archie and Kim. The dinner we had here didn't quite meet our expectations. We went for a special family dinner and were really expecting a great meal. The atmosphere seemed more diner than dinner and the server, although friendly, looked really sloppy and kind of threw the meal at us even though we were one of only two tables occupied. The food also was just so-so. My husband had the steak which was cooked to the right temperature but had very little flavor. I had beef short ribs with a sauce that was strangely too sweet. My daughter had vegetable ravioli that also had very little flavor. We were looking for a place that could be a neighborhood go-to restaurant but were disappointed. read more

Im loving this place.... a friend told me about it a few months ago. I went three times for dinner so far and the experience has been consistently GREAT. Nice place, cool music, and awesome food. I'm visiting the area from New Jersey, and my best friend brought me to Putterham Grille today for lunch, because it's one of her favorite places. I was really impressed. I had the Times Square sandwich -- essentially a Ruben with pastrami instead of corned beef -- and a cup of the Greek avgolemono soup. Everything was delicious, even the french fries that came with my sandwich. The service was wonderful (Archie is personable and friendly). I also really enjoyed the decor and ambiance of the restaurant. It was instantly inviting, and the smell of delicious food that hit my nose the second I walked in was good too. Fantastic little family run (I think) Greek/American restaurant. They make basic food but they do it REALLY well. The chicken parm I had last night was one of the best I've ever had, the meat was tender and not dry. The sauce and cheese were plentiful and very tasty. Also their avoglemone (lemon egg drop soup) was unreal, the best I've ever had. Their soups in general are always A+. What everyone wrote is spot on. This place is wonderful! I love the atmosphere, the people, and of course the food! I grew up in the Mediterranean area, and I can tell you that eating their is like going back home! The stuffed grape leaves were fantastic! the yogurt sauce was perfectly made. Beet Salad was also very well done.. Chicken Kabob was perfect, not dry, very yummy. BURGERRRR SOOO GOOD -bread for burger was a perfect choice. Food is healthy, well prepared, good value and delicious! I would like to make a few suggestions, and hopefully this reaches the owner/cook. 1) Candles on tables at night.... do it. 2) Beet salad slightly overdressed.... less dressing would be better. We dined at Putterham Grille this evening and it was less than stellar. The service was rushed and unpleasant. The waiter seemed like he was in a hurry to leave the table every time he came over, even though the restaurant only had 2 other tables finishing their meals. The waiter told us bread came with the meal, then charged us without letting us know that there would be an extra charge for additional bread. He refused to remove the charge. The food was bland and very tasteless. The dessert was very bland as well. I would not recommend this establishment to anyone. It is a horrible business practice to charge extra for an item without telling the customer before hand. read more

Pleasant surprise! I live nearby and had been looking for a reason to try Putterham Grille. I was very glad I did! My swordfish on vegetable risotto and a bed of lightly sautéed spinach was superb! Service was delightful and attentive, not overly so. Staff knew the menu well and were quite helpful. The only negative was more of a distraction. A man was seated at a lone table near the entry. I observed two large beer cans on his table that appeared messy and unprofessional. Then I observed him talking with staff, some of whom were casually leaning and chatting nearby. Owners - you have a great location for what should be a very popular neighborhood restauant. I want you to be successful. Please move the family end ofbthings out of sight and let customers judge you by the wonderful food, wine, service, neighborly ambience, then trust and empower the team that you have facing the clientele. For a little place, the food here is very good, as is the service. There are a lot of Greek specialties, including gyros, which are different from other gyros in that they are actually chunks of high-quality meat, rather than pressed meat on a revolving spit. Finally a great place for dinner in my neighborhood. The food and service are both excellent. It has authentic Greek dishes and classic NY deli items. This is perfect for me because my wife is from Greece and I haven't been able to find a REAL chicken soup and stuffed cabbage in all of Boston. We just came home from a lovely dinner at Putterham Grille!! It was awesome and a must-visit! Perfect atmosphere after a long day at work - dim lights, live low-key jazz music (very impressive and friendly musicians), candle-lit tables, cozy and trendy. The food was amazing - I got the grilled salmon with garlic mashed potatoes and vegetable medley; my boyfriend got the chicken parmesean which was rich and delicious. The restaurant was not what I expected in terms of decor and atmosphere. That's not a bad thing! We had a late dinner so we missed out on the live band. Overall, it was great service. Our waitress was very attentive and patient as we waited for other people in our party to arrive. Food was deeeelicious! Lamb shank, beef bolognese and lobster ravioli are a MUST TRY. Also try their apple pie for dessert! You will not be disappointed. We didn't realize we stayed past their closing time but they did not at any point try to rush us out. Mega brownie points for that. I've been here a few times. Always easy to get a seat but don't let that sway your first impression. They have great food and friendly service. My very favorite menu item of theirs is the sweet and sour cabbage soup. The balance of flavor is outstanding. Not too sour, not too sweet, just right. Nice little chunks of brisket and the cabbage is cooked but not soggy. Goldilocks would be thrilled. Easy parking makes this an easy choice in parking-challenged greater Boston. read more

I saw a Groupon for this place and decided to give it a try. We were a little nervous since there were only two other people in the restaurant when we arrived, but it did end up filling up during the time we were there. The servers were great, very attentive and polite, they all seems to work well together. Both my boyfriend and I started with a bowl of French Onion which could have had a little more flavor and better croutons (they were very soggy). The bowl portion was pretty big, but at $10 each you would hope it to be. For entree's, I had the chicken marsala and my boyfriend had the veal marsala and it was a little sweeter than we had been expecting, but the meat in both was very good and the pasta was probably the best pasta I've ever had. I don't know if it was or not, but it tasted homemade. The prices were pretty high ($10 for french onion with soggy croutons?!)... but because of the nice staff and amazing pasta, if there was another Groupon I'd give it another try. read more

Food and service here was great. Very friendly, happy and accommodating waitress. The fried calamari was expertly cooked. Roast beef and buffalo chicken sandwiches were huge. Great food, not just mediterranean, but also american. They have the best deli meat in Boston. Not slimy, no weird preservatives. The staff are friendly. My only issue is that they take a fairly long time to get to go orders ready, so definitely call ahead. Overall, a great restaurant. read more

After reading some of the reviews, I didn't know what to expect last night. But we were very pleasantly surprised. Great appetizers, calimari, chicken fingers, and spinach and asparagus dip. The other diners all had salads, but I had the matzo ball soup and it was very good; alhough it could have been a bit hotter. Two of us got chicken parm and the other two got veal parm. The chicken was very moist and the sauce was good. When they first brought it out, I thought wow, that's a lot of food. That was just the side of pasta and then the entrees followed. Now it takes a lot for me to write a review, but the treatment my husband and I just received warrants a write up. Is there such a thing as negative stars? We walked in around 6:30 looking for a quick bite to eat at a neighborhood restaurant. Granted we didn't have a reservation but we didn't think it would be an issue since there were at least 3 open tables (out of the maybe 15 total.) we were greeted by a woman who without saying hello asked if we had a reservation. When we replied no we were given an eye roll and she walked away. She went to the deli counter from which came out another employee asked if we had a reservation and then rolled his eyes when we said no. A couple walked in right behind us and were seated even though their entire party wasn't there yet. Maybe ten minutes passed and she said she had a table for us as a party was paying. No fewer than 2 minutes later "our table" was given away to a couple that walked in ten minutes after us. Another 5 minutes passed, keep in mind that there are still two open tables. Finally the first eye roller comes and offers to set us up a table in the deli area by the drafty door. It took her twenty minutes to come up with such second hand treatment? I am the last person to throw the race card out but my husband is not white and the clientele was clearly white Jewish - which I am. I have never in my life felt like we were judged by our mixed couple status at this day in age especially in the neighborhood I grew up in and still live in. My husband is a chef and has worked at some very well known restaurants in the city and he was appalled that any proprietor would treat potential customers like this. Never ever will they see my business or any of my neighbors. read more
