Oh my goodness, if I could give 10 stars I would! Chef Susan created a custom plant-based gluten free 3-course dinner for me. Customer service was wonderful. I had a party of about 20 people and the majority of them are meat eaters. They ALL gobbled up the plant based items. Not a bit of it left. Nobody even cared that it was plant based... it's simply just delicious whether you eat meat or not! We had plant based pizza rolls and Greek rolls for appetizers. They were amazing! Then the main course was a garden veggie pasta. That was polished off in 2 seconds. Then, oh my gosh the fluffy coconut cream dinner rolls were sooo yummy!! One of the few places I have come across where their entire menu is gluten free. Located on Lusitana street, this is a small hole in the wall, grab and go type of eatery. There is normally always parking right in front. This is my second time coming here and I noticed that their lunch menu varies, so its kinda of a shot in the dark as to what they will offer. We tried calling several times before arriving to see what was on their lunch menu, but got no answer. I tried the turkey slider and it was good, the bread was sweet and they put a fair amount of turkey and filling inside. They have some free samples on the display case in these little black dishes, so be sure to check it out once you enter. My experience with them has been hit-or-miss, with mostly misses, but this bakery has beautiful and delicious sweet & savory treats regardless of how you feel about gluten. I tried several of the samples (ok, all of them - shhh) and was most impressed with the chocolate cupcake. Very moist & rich! Also liked the snowball/wedding cookies. I ordered a savory gorgonzola pastry, since it was about lunch time, but I would go back for cookies if it were walkable. This place is amazing!! My daughter has Celiac and she was so excited to try this bakery during our vacation in Hawaii. My daughter and the rest of my family loved everything. This small locally owned bakery is HEAVEN if you require gluten free, because the baked goods here are to die for! Cookies, scones, muffins, cakes, you can't go wrong any of it! And the savory offerings are just as good- smoked salmon quiche, artichoke and ham bake, homemade soups, and their signature ahi Chile stew. A lot of the items are made with fresh, local farmers' market fruits and veggies. Because of this, there's always something fresh and new on the menu. The owner is lovely and lately I see that she has some new employees. All the employees are lovely as well. Sometimes, the older woman can have some difficulty on the register, but she is delightful and just the sweetest, so just be patient with her. They open at 7:30, so stop by before work and grab your sweets and lunch to go, or just stop by during lunch. There's always parking right outside their door. We ordered a gender reveal cake through Pu'uwai Aloha Bakery and they did an incredible job. I gave minimal instructions, other than making sure the inside was pink and the outside writing. They were able to accommodate a very quick turnaround (24 hours!), and the cake turned out beautifully and tasted great. Omg...so yummy! Just got a chicken manapua this morning (which tastes like a delicious roll stuffed with chicken curry) and an iced coffee. My wife is gluten-free and dairy-free, but not vegan- hasn't had a birthday cake in a long long time. Susan made us a very tasty cake, and we picked up a couple of cookies when we got the cake. (Also tremendous) We tried some samples of vegan baked goods too (snowballs) which were also fabulous. Just specify what you need and they are accommodating. Susan could not have been more helpful and understanding. I could write a book on how important that is and lack of knowledge leads to awkward moments more often than not. For instance, buying plate lunches one time, we checked to see if the chicken could be made without shoyu- it was. OK. Then we had to convince the cashier that brown rice was going to be OK too- that it was not "wheat rice." You know- like how brown bread is wheat bread. Not at Pu'uwai though. However, if you are a gluten-free vegan who avoids processed foods and likes to eat loads of fruit and vegetables and home cooked stir fry and bean stews... The baked goods from this place will serve more of a rare "delicious junk food" option. For times you really want to splurge out. The items are certainly delicious. But if you eat more than a small piece you may notice how oily and heavy the items are. And the cinnamon rolls are SO scrumptious but also SO sweet. Lots and lots of sugar and oils. Which makes sense as that is the typical approach to gluten-free, vegan baking. Need to put something in it. The parking at the storefront is not very good, but also not impossible.
