Checked this place out after a Hawthorne stroll. It's in a hip little food cart area, at the corner of a block. Parking's not bad, it's mainly the residential spots around the block. We tried this place out, because we've been on a pizza kick and heard good things about it. We both shared a Fennel Sausage pizza, and we thought it was good. It had the nice dark char all over from the wood-fire oven. It was definitely on the lighter end though, and we actually thought it was a bit thin. I wouldn't say I eat a lot in one sitting, but I even thought that one wasn't enough for myself. I wish it was a little thicker or bigger for the cost of $16+. But other than that, the flavors were good. I actually would recommend checking this place out if you like mostly vegetarian. I think only 2 of the options were meat. I'm a pizza aficionado and saw these gorgeous pizzas on Yelp and stopped by. I rate a good pizza place by their margheritas. Is the most basic pizza is good, everything should follow. The prices on their website says $11 but once I was there they list them at $13 which is very high for such small personal pizza. Overall. It was fine. The dough is perfectly cooked and chewy, slightly charred on the sides however it needed a tad of salt and that lil something something was missing. It also needed more tomato sauce and perhaps basil after cooking instead of cooked together. Not very memorable Overall ok pizza but lacked that oomph. read more

Five star wood fired pizza experience. I love wood fired pizza and this is one of the best -- or even the best - I've had anywhere in NYC, LA, Seattle or Tacoma. I had the Nonna and I don't doubt that the other pies are just as good. The dough was absolute chewy perfection with the lightest crisp of crust, the sauce was redolent of fresh fresh tomatos and the sharp herbal tang of the basil was so much more THERE than it usually is. I love basil and have always been puzzled why it's so easily overwhelmed on most pizzas. Pyro also serves fresh and sparkly tasting Portland sodas which are better than most. Food: I find that many Neapolitan pizzas are fairly similar and hard to differentiate amongst each other. I thought this was a very good pizza which a nicely crisped crust and not too much crust (that is one issue I occasionally see with Neapolitan pizza). On taste alone, would definitely recommend. Price: I thought the price was standard for a personal-sized Margherita pizza. You can find them a little cheaper after town, but for a normal price this was a fair price. I felt full enough after eating. Service: Food truck so walk up to the counter to order and bus your own tables. Pizza took about 12 minutes to be ready. Parking: Street parking. Great vegetarian options and decent prices. The food cart pods share a patio that included three fire pits and a heated tent area, which kept us ridiculously warm on a 48 degree evening. When taking my order, they were friendly and efficient with the timing of the order considering the pizza is cooked fresh in a pizza oven. Had the Nonna, which is very pretty, well charred and shaped. This type of pie usually has a thicker crust, and this was on the thin side, with a saggy tip. Despite the fine cooking on the outside, the outside seemed a little under-cooked.The tomatoes were flavorful, tangy, & salty. The provolone--one of the reasons I chose this pie--had fine texture. It didn't help that the worker game me the stink eye when I interrupted his pan washing to let him know I was there. Hope pies 99 and 100 live up to my expectations. read more

I gotta say, I found myself really disappointed after eating here. Before coming I was reading about the good pizza places in Portland and the name "Pyro Pizza" came up. While in line I was texting my friend about how good it looks, and how it's located in this well known food cart pod and the line for Pyro Pizza was longer than all of the other lines for other food carts combined. And then, the pizza wasn't actually good. Something about the pictures are deceptive. Parts of the dough were very cracker-like. Other parts were doughy and pretty good. It was inconsistent though. And the sauce was pretty bad. For whatever reason, salt was the main flavor that came through for me. I know, right? I was looking for some sweetness and acidity, but didn't really get either of those flavors in the tomato sauce. And the tomato sauce was really thin too. It needed some more. If you look closely enough at the picture, I think you'll be able to tell. There were bites that didn't really have any tomato sauce/the sauce was dried out, and the dough was crackery, and those bites just tasted crackery in a bad way. The cheese wasn't great either. I'm not sure how to explain that. The little bits of basil were nice though. Good color, and perfectly crisped. I was also a little disappointed by the soda. It was advertised as "Portland Craft Soda" so I was hoping for some sort of "above and beyond" type of flavor, but I didn't get that. It just tasted like normal, mediocre soda to me. I think it can depend on how wet the toppings are. Nice mix of fresh arugula topping to give it a nutty peppery taste and earthy tones from the fresh mushroom baked on the pizza. Rounds nicely with some acidity and sweetness from the tomatoes. We also had the Fennel and Sausage Pizza to get our meats. Nicely balanced as well with some crunch and texture from the fennel and red onions. Some mild spicy flavors that rounds out the pizza.
