If I could give her zero stars I would. My medium hair length haircut (1 inch below my ear) took a total of three hours. I came into the salon on time, only to find that Paula had double booked me because she had just came back from Vegas.... But I had made an appointment a week prior. She said come back in 30 minutes and I'll be ready. Came back in 30 minutes and she was working with a new customer... then she apologized and said she will comp me for a conditioning treatment.... I said no, I was doing hair donation and it must be clean and dry (therefore I washed my hair before my appointment). She was nice and immediately said why don't I cut your hair for your donation first. She cut my hair then moved me to get my conditioning treatment, like an assembly line. She continued with her client, while I started with my treatment... after the treatment, they just left me there... hair half cut and wet... I waited and waited and no update on time, the guy that washed my hair came back to check up on me, he said not to worry just relax, Paula will be right with you.... Then he told me how hungry Paula was and how she didn't eat lunch... and he heated food for her and I had to wait for her to finish eating.... And after she was done, I still had to wait before she finally cut my hair.... In between the haircut she still answered the phone and etc (I understand as a small business that we all need to do that sometime but my time is also valuable). After the haircut she still have the nerve to charge me $75.00. Her rates were $45.00 to $60.00 for a medium cut and $15.00 for a wash. Firstly I declined the treatment, secondly I don't see how you can do the treatment without washing my hair. It was a good haircut but I'm never going back again. I wouldn't be as mad, if she had just rescheduled. *Update: I just want to clarify, I have been to other independently owned salon and understand the rates that I had agreed upon but time management is self chosen. I can understand waiting half an hour or so for someone to finish up with a customer, but I can't understand pausing in between a service for a long period of time and making the customer wait in a middle of a hair cut. This is an appointment based service, I had made an appointment a week prior, with a direct call to the business. If there were any issues with booking, I'm sure we could have mutually called each other to clarify and reschedule. Also, we pay more or less for a service because we are willing to pay for the customer service and goods along with it and I knew the expectations. I left my house around 3:30 and didn't get home till 7:30 ish for a medium cut. I don't think Q cuts works for me especially when I read the businesses response. read more

Q Cuts is the best!! I am new to the area and happened upon Q cuts in my internet search. I booked an appointment to get a haircut and a balayage. I am mother to a toddler and rarely do anything nice for myself, and I didn't think this hair appointment qualified as treating myself - but I can tell you right now- it was a 'treat myself' kind of day! They offered me tea and snacks, and they gave me the nicest head massage/shampoo experience I've ever had. Not only that, but while I waited for my color to set, I laid back in their massage chairs (yes they have massage chairs!), they dimmed the lights for me and allowed me to take a nap! How sweet is that?? Then Paula gave me one of the best hair color/haircuts I've ever had. I wanted a short cut with blonde balayage and I was worried I would get a 'soccer mom' cut. Not only did she NOT give me a soccer mom cut, but she managed to make me look hip and years younger. In addition, I have super thick hair. A lot of hair salons rush me through the cut/color process when they figure this out leading to not-so-great results, but Paula still took her time and managed to give me the hair style of my dreams. Paula suggested a more blunt cut as it was more fashionable now and turns out I really loved it! So I made my way in and was greeted by Paula, the owner of the shop. She took great care of me and explained the protocols in place for the salon. I felt safe and well taken care of throughout. So much so, that it's closing in on one year since my first trip, and I haven't gone anywhere else for my haircuts. It is extremely simple to book and confirm appointments at a convenient time online. Times are honored whenever I've arrived at the shop. Paula runs a clean, organized, and friendly shop. What works for me is the gift card option with a 20% discount. For $100 you get $120 worth of services, which means 6 haircuts for the price of 5. Highly recommend. Since living in Castro Valley for the past 14-15 years, I've visited 3 or 4 places to get haircuts, due to convenient location, maybe the price, or a job well done. I always ask for the same basic set of things with haircuts and Q cuts gets it right: 1. remove length only up to dead-ends 2. long/medium blended layers 3. front layer trim 4. remove teeny bit of end weight, and 5. NEVER too thinned out, no visibly demarcated layers I have long, fine-ish asian hair that is also pretty thick. Both hairstylists at Q cuts really listen and check in during the cut. Anyway, first haircut was great, it was neat, healthy and had a lot of longevity and grew out nicely for 4 months. Second cut today, feels fantastic (: Great place for routine cuts! You can tell these ladies are experienced. For my length (low back) and volume pricing was $70 which is totally reasonable for a great haircut. I got in, and was immediately greeted and got started on shampooing, and I was out of there in an hour feeling new! read more

This place relies on text messages to confirm appointments. I've received multiple texts asking me to confirm that I will be there on time. And when I got there on time, with two little kids, for a 20-minute kids' haircut appointment that I made in advance- the owner told me that she is running 30 minutes late, but I can go and get ice cream. This was very disrespectful of my time- she could have sent me a text message and asked me if I could come later, but instead, she thought that it was okay to waste my time, to have me drive there and wait with my little kids - or drive someplace else and eat ice cream and come back. It was my first time coming here and I thought the service was amazing:) I had faded purple and pink hair, and because I swim there were weird hints of greens, blues, and oranges on my hair. Paula had to do three different rounds of fading on my hair; the color would not budge, but neither would she!! I felt really bad because she stayed with me until after they already closed but I knew she wasn't going to give up on getting me the hair I wanted. I desperately needed a haircut after months of lockdown. Prior to coming in I had reached out to several other hair stylists, but Paula was the only one that answered my yelp message promptly. She was able to schedule me for a haircut that same day during the time I requested. Paula did an amazing job cutting my hair and explained what I should be doing for my already thin hair. It was very nice of her to give me that information. They also have a system in place where they leave a note on the type of cut you received so that the next time you were to go in they already know what haircut/style you got the last time.
