Went for another wing night with the fellas. We had solid service again, wings came out a little slower than last time but was still good for the amount of people. Wong sauce variety is great. Consistency of sauce is kinda all over the place between orders and even if two of us had the same would would be dry and one got all the sauce. Walked into a classic car show in the parking lot. So fun. So many cool cars to check out. There was a DJ of sorts playing music too. Went inside and was immediately captivated by the car decor with gas pumps and cars hanging from the ceiling. The restaurant splits into two and we picked a side and sat at the bar. The bartender greeted us right away and brought our drinks. We checked out the menu and decided on mozzarella stick shifters and bone in wings. Chose the Parmesan pepper sauce. That was not to my liking - too rich. The wings themselves were fine. I had wanted a dry rub but there was only two kinds and I didn't feel like bbq sweetness or spicy. Not only was the food here very good; but the atmosphere is amazing. We loved looking at all the cars, motorcycles, etc. that adorned this place! What a novel idea for decoration. My ribs tasted good even though I had to use a knife to separate them. I would prefer "fall off the bone" tenderness; however, the sauce was just right. My wife loved the Smothered Steak Skillet! I gotta say the last few times i have been here i have had pretty good wings. This last visit by my picture the bone-in flats are huge as well as the other stumpies! They were nicely sauced instead of being dry in any section that is for sure. We all sat at the bar proper since it was pretty slow around the 230ish time. Tuesday night found us at Quaker Steak & Lube in Council Bluffs, lured in by their discounted $12.99 All-You-Can-Eat Wing Night for January. That price is absurdly good, so naturally, we had to take advantage before the calendar flipped. First off, this place is a visual buffet. The walls and ceilings are a chaotic shrine to Americana--Harleys, hubcaps, and God-knows-what else dangling above your head. It's quirky, it's fun, and if you don't occasionally wonder whether one of those bungeed motorcycles might become your last dining companion, are you even human? My dad started things off with a draft beer, which he promptly declared suspect. No foam head = improperly rinsed glass, according to Bar Rescue. He's 75, so I'll let you decide how much authority that carries. I, your humble beverage goblin, played it safe with water and a Diet Pepsi (sadly, the only diet soda option). My husband stuck with tea; thankfully, the service kept all glasses full. So, no complaints there! The food arrived hot and fast. My dad and husband both went for the AYCE wings. Dad kept it classic with extra-crispy flats and a side salad, while my husband had the Mango Habanero dusted. Fries came as a default side to the first order of wings. As someone who likes to live dangerously but not with bones, I ordered the grilled boneless "wings" with Mango Habanero dust. They arrived atop pita triangles and what can only be described as a sad little pile of lettuce with pico de gallo on it. Maybe I was supposed to MacGyver some kind of mini taco situation? Instead, I ate the chicken, nibbled on the soggy pita, and Frankensteined the lettuce into a ranch-drenched pseudo-salad. (I also paid an extra dollar for carrots and celery because, clearly, I like to splurge.) Was it the best meal of my life? Hardly. But it was fun, filling, and, most importantly, cheap. For $12.99 (it goes back to normal pricing in February), you get wings, fries, and a side of quirky décor-induced adrenaline. What more could you ask for? Maybe cleaner beer glasses? Would I go back? I got a pulled pork bbq sandwich, the bread surprised me, it didn't seem like your average bun, it made the sandwich better. Mac and cheese was good, I added some of the meat and bbq sauce to it. I ordered the street tacos, and our waiter suggested that I order 3 since they were really small. OMG, when they came out, I'm so glad he suggsted that because they really were small. They were smaller than taco truck tacos. Knowing I'd still be hungry, I had to order something else. Their menu stated that they were known for their chicken wings. I like chicken wings, so I ordered a basket. They were good. They were fine. Not bad, but not very memorable. The decor made it a cool place. The food was good, and my one drink was disappointing.
