Few days later came to pick up the car with zero work done, he was not able to properly diagnose the issue. His claims were misleading just so you could pay him more money. I swiped a credit card for $8600 to have my classic mustang engine rebuilt as well as upgraded other parts like transmission rear end driveline suspension and more. The car sat for quite some time in the end it never ran good when he said he was finished had no speed no power timing off ok overheating as well, I had to pay for two radiators two sets of fans, I left a cup of coffee or a soda when I dropped the car off in the cup holder only to come back to it being spilt on my passenger seat as well as oil stains everywhere, my spoiler was scratched really bad paint chipped the size of my thumb maybe bigger they never informed me of any extra damage or issues I always find it and try to keep my cool. I picked the car up so many times and broke down all my aaa tows would get used up each year this going on 18 months of dealing with this shop, i agreed to tow it to a Performace shop since he couldn't get it running right they charge me me $3,600 had the car 3 weeks I get a ride up in traffic took almost 3 hours to get there to pick up car only for it to overheat 5 min out of the shop which has nothing to do with new shop, so I tow it back to old shop who did the rebuild and a month later I pick it up to make room for my other classic and overheats again 5 min down the road left me stranded till 1am because I'm out of tows again trying to jump the car a small electrical fire happened I was able to put it out but my clutch cable burned and so did my emergency brake cable. There is so much more to this story but I have to tell you about my 1964 impala he recent changed all the locks on that car and the driver lock doesn't work well he scratched the trunk area around the trunk lock worth the drill this car has also left me stranded after picking it up from shop from overheating issues to car almost killing me because things where missed, to fans not working always on the side of the road after picking up car from shop. He's so busy he gets upset and won't answer phone because he's stressed out about other cars always taking too many projects on and rushing through them, and I hate to say it but it's effecting his work and me and I don't play that shit I've text him over and over and got no response so here we go, it's small claims court coming.... read more

One word summary for Jay: HONEST !!! We were recommended to Jay by a colleague who swore by him. And after having known him for couple of years, so do I. Hes very knowledgeable about cars, and is surprisingly honest and casual. And he does not push you to fix this and that and spend money. He will tell you exactly what the issue is and how long you can live with it, or what the options are, some of which can save u a lot of $$ Just praising Jay is not enough. I should give examples of what I have seen from him so far. 1. first time i had gone to him was for the smallest car issue possible: nail in tire. now i had shown it to firestone first and they "explained" to me how the nail was on the side and so could not be removed and tire needed to be replaced. and how they had a "special offer" on tire in their store running for some $150 a tire (mine is 16"). I went to Jay. He fixed the nail. I paid him $10. tires good after 1.5 yrs! 2. next my transmission failed (my car is 10 yrs old). Dealer asked for $2500. When I took it to Jay, he first told me not to worry and that I can keep driving for some more time! I was surprised that he actually sent me home where as some other auto repair place would take that opportunity to sell me some serious damage to my wallet. anyway as the problem persisted, I took it back. Jay rebuilt it with a new transmission kit for $1500. 1 yr since that and no issues. 3. most recent. i took my car for smog inspection in some other smog test station. emission was ok.. but the PCV hose had some cracks on the exterior and so it failed the test. Since I had already taken the morning off from work, I was eager to resolve this the same day. Also I had a free retest at the smog station. So I went over to Jay. He looked at the hose.. took it off. went into his garage.. got another hose, cut a small length equal to the older one and fit it in.. all in some 15 mins. When I asked him how much I owed him he said "nothing.. its just a hose". I went back to the smog station and all tests passed this time. What can i say... any other auto mechanic would have charged me at least $10 or more for that "quick fix". So as it stands, I trust my car with Jay completely and shall never go anywhere else. read more

Tried to pull some crap with my wife. She calls me up and says that the guy says she is out of all fluids. Oil, coolant and transmission. I start laughing and she is not amused. I ask if she was towed there. She says no, still not amused. So I tell her to please letme talk to the guy. Suprisingly he tells me the same crap. I ask him to explain as that is a pretty cray list of things to just be gone from the car. It is not terribly far from my house so I head over since I can't believe it. Magically, when I arrive, they had filled the coolant and the transmission oil "for free". They then proceeded to do the oil change she went for. Such a scam. My family van recently failed CA smog check. Being an old car (1994 Toyota Previa), it was subject to the new STAR-certified check requirement, where only accredited smog stations could do the smogging for me. Since the system is pretty new still, they charge and arm and a leg for the same type of service that every other smog shop does. And unlike most smog stations that offer free re-test if you happen to fail the initial test, these STAR stations are ripping people off by making them pay again, albeit at 50% off the original price. I wasn't sure what was wrong with our van, so I took it to Jay and Kao @ Quality Auto and they quoted me EXTREMELY fair prices on replacing my van's EGR valve, EGR temperature sensor, EGR piping system cleaning, and a new primary O2 sensor as well. The van passed smog thereafter, and we can peacefully drive our van for another two years to come, thanks to these guys and their great service! :) I will continue coming here for my family car needs, as well as for my own racing/track cars ^_^ read more

My rear tail light kept going out, and I basically found out the pricier European auto idiots didn't do it right (no wonder they didn't charge). I know tail lights are not a big deal, but it's really annoying to find out when mechanics cut corners. It's definitely a sign they cut corners elsewhere, which I have found to be true. I recall a research that put me in a reality check...two of the places that consumers hate to go are: number 1, the dentist; number 2, auto repair. But the reasons why people are reluctant to visit these places are different. Personally, I don't like going to the dentist because I don't know what they're going to do to my teeth, and I don't like going to auto repair shops because I don't know what they're going to charge me. Now, for some people both reasons may apply to both places, but the reason why I'm not really worried about the work being performed on my car is because I'm one of those guys that looks over the mechanic's shoulder with my arms crossed. In other words, I know if the guy is doing a poor job or a good job. So, why the five stars? I needed some struts on my car. I was referred here by a friend of mine. But I still called around for some pricing anyway...to find out nobody wants to give you a price upfront! Everybody was a like uh...uh...let me take a look at it. I mean sure, if it was some sort of engine diagnostic, you'd have a take a look at it, but I mean, I am telling these clowns what I want with the year make and model but they need to take a look at it to give me an estimate? Please... Come on now. Well, a few places gave me a rough idea of what it would cost, but this place was firm over the phone. Price was fair, lower than most corporate and franchises and in line with most local mechanics. So with my buddy's recommendation, I decided to bring my car here. I shopped the price and it was fair, which is a big plus for me. I checked the parts and it was OEM, which is another big plus for me. My 2011 bmw angel light bulb needed to be replace but I couldnt find them from the parts store like autozone. I called few shops around my house to get a quote and they didnt even understand What I need or I had to wait for few days.. I didnt understand why it is so hard to just replacing the bulb... Pros: Great prices. Took care of my Mini cooper and did the service I asked. Up front and honest about services needed. Really fast service. Cons: Not much parking. Had to drop off my car in another auto centers parking spot. Not clear if there is a night key drop or it's just a mail drop in the garage. Extremely difficult to get ahold of anyone with questions. Never was called with an update on my car- had to call them. Office hours are posted as 9am-6pm. Never able to get ahold of anyone before 10am. No message system- tried emailing qualityauto@giddesign.com. Bottom line: Good and honest services at great prices, but no administrative support in their office and not available for customers during hours that are posted on Yelp. I had a long list of things I needed to be done on my car: O2 sensor, cam sensor, tune up, spark plugs, wires, PCV valve, transmission fluid, differential fluid, radiator. Jay was helpful with all my questions. I asked if I needed other things needed to be done, and he gave honest answers and recommendations, but never told me additional work must be done. Referred by my co-worker. I have been having my car to them since the factory warranty was over. It's a tiny mechanic shop. Do not expect a hot coffee service counter or cozy waiting room. However, at least for me it's not a big deal but "Quality" of the service. On my first visit, I asked them to check if there's any issue on my 2006 Audi A6, since I haven't got any scheduled maintenance for years except oil changes. Jay, the owner of the shop, checked the car and advised me to do a few works, which I was expecting for sure. I had them replace the brakes, spark plugs and another minor works. He order the right parts and fixed/update issues. Satisfied. Later, the check engine light came up. At the first visit, Jay replaced the vaccum sensor. The light went off, but after a while the light came back. Took the car there again. This time, he performed intensive investigation. He also did some research to find out the issue. Finally he found a very tiny tear on the cable and fixed the problem. I understand there's no mechanic who knows all the models in the market. Even technicians in dealer shops are missing someting and keep getting trained with new knowledges. I was impressed on his effort. He tried to fix the issue by studying and researching something he's not familiar with. And he did job perfectly. Only downside is, as one of reviewer mentioned, they are not active until 10 or 11 am. And it makes not easy to communicate with them and schedule any works. Plus, very good prices considering their work and services. I even felt sorry when they didn't charge any for some minor works and updates. Had a terrifying experiences driving to his shop (and other places) multiple times in car with a NON FUNCTIONING CLUTCH PEDAL. When I called and asked for his help to bring my car to his shop, Jay hung up on me. By the way, the mechanic at San Jose Autoworks in downtown San Jose did a perfect job of replacing the clutch on his first try. I have been going here for about five years now and I will not change. When Jay tells you what is wrong with your car you can believe it. He is not one to over charge you. . I recently took my mother car into him she had work done elsewere and her car was still not fixed, I took it to Jay and within two hours he knew what was wrong. What she needed was a major tune up Jay fixed it and she has had no problems since. my mother now says that she is not going anywere else. I live in the East Bay now and I will take my car into him when I need work done. I just recently took my car to him to have some work done and I made the drive to him from the East Bay.
