Horrible for 1950's Ford. I've had my 1955 Thunderbird there three times, each time an issue. One visit, had the master cylinder replaced, had plenty of brake pressure upon leaving it. I pick it up, and lots of pedal travel before any stopping power. Prior it was excellent. Last visit they rebuilt the Alternator, even though I provided a freshly built one. Reminded them multiple, multiple times to replace the belt. Did they do it? Nope! Returned the car to me not charging at all, same as when I brought it in. Charged me $1000!!! What a total waste of time, this place obviously isn't fluent in 50's Fords. I totally wasted $1000. This garage is the fine example of why it's best to service your own vehicle. I got to know Mark and crew through the MNMG Club. Recently I bought my 1962 MGA in for front end work due to a vibration issue. They took a close look and determined it was not the expensive total front end rebuild I was expecting. They called me to discuss, and then simply rebalanced the front tires and it was fixed. While they did replace the water pump and find the exhaust leak, the repair left more work for me and took entirely too long. I made an appointment and the car sat for 4 weeks before it was looked at, then sat for 4 more before repairs were started. I picked it up 9 weeks - 1 day from when it was dropped off. I park my car in the garage, so there are no bird droppings on it. There were when I picked it up! When they changed the exhaust gasket on the drivers side, it loosened the dipstick tube. I cannot even drive my car until I figure out how to fix it. I would take it back, but I don't have another 9 weeks to wait. Do not expect to get good customer service. And it will cost you. I have never been pleasantly surprised at a bill from them. They can probably fix your car though. They must be interested in more expensive cars than I have, but it is hard to find a place to get a 30 year old car worked on. read more

We have taken our cars to Quality Coaches for the past year. The first time was to fix a repair on our Volvo Cross Country that another shop had badly messed up. Quality Coaches was able to diagnose the issue and successfully make the repair. Another repair was to fix an electrical issue on a collector car. They have been great with regular maintenance. I so wanted to give them a rave review. But in good conscience I can't. Why I wanted to - Mark, the owner, has done an admirable thing, create a thriving small business catering to classic car owners. He followed his passion and has been doing his thing now for 30 years. By all accounts he has a loyal and passionate customer base. And from what I saw he treats his workers well and employs good talent. I'm embarrassed to say I own 7 classic cars, so was excited to bring my 61 sunbeam alpine in for some brake work, with plans to bring in the rest. Up front I should say that delays and cost overruns are more common when working on the oldies, and I'm used to them. The estimate Mark gave me was $600. While on vacation about 3 weeks after dropping the car off - 3 weeks without any communication - I got a call from Mark asking for an ASAP payment of $1500 due to more serious issues they'd found. He said he didn't think the total would be much more than that, so I paid and they carried on. $1500 still seemed reasonable enough for brake repairs on a car like that. No communication until two days' ago, over 6 weeks into the work, when Mark left me a message saying they'd finished the original brake work and that he'd started in on some unrequested electrical work. Turned out the total for the initial work was $3200, 5 times the original estimate! And with no communication in between other than to say it would be closer to $1500. Aside from that, starting in on unrequested work, whether I needed it or not, is just plain dishonest and a classic way of running up a bill since it put me in the position of being the bad guy and calling back asap to say what the heck, you gotta stop! It would be like if a lawyer you hired to set up a company for you then started drafting your will without asking because he thought you needed one. Plus after the initial 5x overrun, I couldn't trust the price he quoted me for the additional work. I patronize mechanics who know how to communicate and are up front about costs. In my experience, this place just isn't one of them, and that's a disappointment. So much of a mechanic's work - the markup on parts and the amount of time they spend on labor - is on the honor system since customer's have no way of verifying. Maybe I was just unlucky - some review are the opposite of mine and 30 years in business is a testament to doing things right at least some of the time. As far as I can tell, the work that was done is good - it just cost a barrel of gold. If Mark were providing a premium service at a premium price and was up front about that I wouldn't complain. But $3200 for brake work, even on a car like mine, is a lot. (He shaved off a bit when I got vocal - about $100.) Plus the lack of communication about how much it would really be. The real deal killer for me was undertaking new work I didn't request without my ok. read more

Great experience! bought a car on "bring-a -trailer" that Mark was handling for the owner. Car was described perfectly, no surprises, they packaged up the car for shipment, met the carrier....all went very smoothly! Buying a car sight unseen can be a scary proposition...Mark made this an excellent experience! I have had my cranky and quirky VW towed into their shop several times this summer. Bill and his mechanics always attended to my car right away and the bill was always fair. It is wonderful to have trustworthy mechanics in the neighborhood! They have a nice waiting area with coffee and lots of old memorabilia to look at too. Glad I found them. We will be bringing our other more reliable :) autos for service here in the future too. read more

It pains me to give only one star, as in the 90's, I had a great relationship with this auto repair shop. Several months ago, I had Quality Coaches perform a pre-purchase inspection on a car I was considering buying. The "results" came back in the form of a quote on work needing to be done ~ no report on the condition of the vehicle. One item seemed way overpriced, so I opted out of that. I paid for the rest to be done, not an insignificant amount. My original To Do list included a reference to a resonator / muffler issue. To my dismay, I picked up the car, and the noise, vibration, and exhaust issues had not changed one iota. I was told, "Oh, yeah, there's a hole in your muffler." What?! And this was not reported after the inspection?? Furthermore, they said that QC refers out muffler issues. Yet they half did some muffler repair and charged a lot for it. Wouldn't it make more sense to refer all the muffler issue out? I had to pay for that elsewhere. Furthermore, there were a handful of issues I had asked about that either did not get fixed or were completely ignored. They did refund the inspection cost after I wrote a letter, but said I would have to confer with the owner if I wanted to make things right. I wrote him another letter, and his response added insult to injury. It was insensitive; his demeanor, pompous. I was chided for not originally asking for what should have been a no-brainer finding at QC's inspection. I can no longer use their service, recommend it to others as I did in the past, or trust the quality or ethics of Quality Coaches. read more

I've been taking several cars - an old Ford Explorer, a 2002 Camry, a 2010 Prius, and now a 2015 Crosstrek - to these guys for 20 years. They consistently charge me less & tell me I need less than the dealers or chain shops like Valvoline, and the cars have worked great. Recently used them for a pre-purchase inspection where they caught some body damage I'd missed, but also told me the guts of the car was fine. The owner, Mark, is a character, but he runs a trustworthy repair shop in our long acquaintance. read more

These guys are great! My dad's been taking his classic cars here for years, and I always thought of this shop as a classic cars only type place and never really considered taking my 6 year old car there in the past. My car had been sitting idle in a garage for the past 12 months, so I knew that it would need fairly extensive work in order to get it up and running again. I called my regular mechanic, and they were booked due to all the accidents on the road after the first significant snow fall of the year. My dad suggested quality coaches, and sure enough I was able to get my car in right away. They did a thorough check, and even though my car needed a lot of work (as I expected) they had it finished a full 2 days faster than I would have guessed. And my car runs great! Way better than it did even before it sat idle for a year. This will definitely be my number 1 mechanic now! read more
