I have an older Triumph Bonneville T100 and used to use Dave O'Hanlon in SF before he moved back east and have been using the dealerships service which after several failed service attempts recommended I buy a new bike. Then I found Bill. He has worked on probably more than 20k bikes over the decades and has a tremendous wealth of knowledge and experience. He is logical and thorough to an extreme, reasonably priced, and can fix your bike by assessing and solving the actual problem. Electrical, mechanical, leaks, engine, or just the right tap, connection, or re-wiring, he can do it all. My bike is running better than it has in years. I can't recommend highly enough. You will probably need to buy your own parts and schedule service (no overnight storage) but don't let that dissuade you. read more

Besides being an excellent mechanic, Bill is just a good dude. Had perpetual issues with the carb on an older bike. What was supposed to be a quick run through turned into a 4 hour job. Love your bike? You need to take it to Bill at Quality Motorcycles. He's not dead and gone!!! Moved across the street. Now the same side of rode as Equator/Proof Lab, set back about 50ft. Keen eyes will spot the old sign. Just got off the phone with him and it seems folks don't know that he relocated. Appears business is too quiet, in a shop that one should have difficultly getting into, considering how good it is. Regarding the first statement, seriously, you cannot ask for a more attentive, considerate and thorough mechanic. Bill is the kind of wrench who's already diagnosed a few things between your turning off the main road and coasting to the roll-up door. Not pretentious or insistent, but in-tune and detail minded. Though the shop may not have the clinical sterility of a new bike dealers shop, do not be deterred from leaving your baby with Bill. Recently took in a recently acquired 2001 BMW f650GS , that I purchased in Park City, UT and rode home via Tonapaugh and Death Valley. Needed a battery and "safety check". Bill promptly ordered the batt, and called me in, the following day, upon its arrival. Was pleasant to sit at Equator for coffee while I did my work and he did his. Just over an hour later, the service was finished. More appreciated than the fair price, was the thoughtful assessment of my bike and it's condition. "Looks like the bike definitely hit something big, maybe a deer. But that's all aesthetic, the bike is straight and solid" he told me. "Chain was way too tight", I confessed to it being due to my overzealousness. No judgment from him. On the ride home over Tam, discovered that he had tweaked/tightened/adjusted way more than showed on the invoice. Feels like a new/old bike and that's just the way I like 'em. First I should say that I am a pretty handy home mechanic, which means I take my bike in to the shop only for tasks that I lack the tools or knowledge to do. As a result, I end up being one of those annoying customers who mostly stops by just to pick a mechanic's brain. Bill is just plain awesome, and he is always more than obliging. Bill is the proprietor, mechanic, cashier, and everything else in this one-man shop. He is very knowledgeable about all brands and models of bikes. In fact, he knows the technical theory behind the different systems on a motorcycle (like brakes, electrical, suspension, fuel) at a level that makes all bikes essentially the same except for the details. More importantly, he's a decent guy who respects his customer's ride, no matter what it is. I have seen some serious high-dollar top end sport bikes in his shop, but when I wheeled up on a 28-year-old beater he was enthusiastic to talk about the bike and its qualities. Not at all like the standoffish biker snobs you meet at some establishments, Bill is the real deal and he doesn't have to prove it to anyone. Bill regularly helps me keep my Honda Silverwing, aka, El Fuego, on the road. The Silverwing is a Maxi-Scooter, a motorcycle hiding behind a scooter facade, a "Wolf in sheep's clothing" if you will. Not only the Honda, but I have seen other Maxi-scooter brands and every other manner of motorcycle in his care. He is willing to accommodate me by doing weird modifications that I request. Almost everyone I spoke to told me I shouldn't have bought ANY older Triumph, particularly a 955. I fell taking a turn up Highway 1 towards Muir Woods. It was a relatively slow crash, and my bike wasn't damaged much. Bill was still working late on this Saturday, around 8:30, and was willing to stay open another 20 minutes and fix my motorcycle (he bent the mirrors back, added a missing screw, replaced the tail light, jump started it, filed the ends of the handlebars, and tested the steering alignment). He was incredibly knowledgeable, explaining that the engine had flooded after the crash, and the battery wasn't strong enough to crank the fluid out of it. He was thorough and careful. He saved me possibly $225 in towing fees, and a lot of trouble having to get myself around for $40. Thank you!!!! read more

Bill did a fantastic job on my Honda 650 XR dual purpose bike. It had a mystery issue with the carburetor and another mechanic could not figure it out. I called up Bill and even though he was extremely busy he took the job. He found the problem (a fuel blockage in an interior part of the carb and he had to use a high pressure air hose to clear it out). My motorcycle "broke down" just as I got in to Sausalito. I called these guys and when I explained the problem, they told me over the phone something to check before I brought it in. Mechanic Bill is almost a Marin icon and character....and knows motorcycles better than most I have ever met (my brother raced professionally so that is saying a lot). He is a biker's biker and a hoot to hang with to boot. He is far away from the fee gouging motorcycle shops which makes sense because his place is about as big as a small taco shop but well managed and organized...and he mostly works alone. I literally tell him what I know needs to be done and have signed off on him doing whatever he thinks I need to have done....he has NEVER taken advantage of that. bill is a real nice guy, if i did not work on my own bikes i would not go anywhere but to quality. instead, i will usually just bug this man for a random gasket for an old pos honda that i will never finish, he will spend tons of time looking trying to hunt one down for me and sell it for probably no profit to him he will also answer whatever dumb/smart questions you may have and always try to help you out at no cost to you. I'm not a regular Yelper, but after my third visit to his shop, I felt compelled to come here and give Bill and Quality Motocycles his props. When I move somewhere, I always try to find a mechanic that will tell you like it is, isn't just doing it to make as many $ as possible and knows his stuff. Bill is the embodiment of those traits. Last night he was pissed at me (only jokingly) that I tried fix-a-flat, as he said it'll make it more likely that he'll have to sell me a new tire instead of patching the one I have. He then proceeded to stay late (which he normally does, but he was trying to get out of town last night) so I could have my bike back to commute to work. If he ever gets anything but 5 stars (he's 9-for-9 right now), I'd be willing to bet that the submitter has some beef with him that isn't related to his ability to support you and your bike in the best way possible. read more

Great place for older bikes, but it looks like he works on his fair share of newer bikes as well. Bill resurrected my CB350 when I first got it and I've been riding it ever since. Fair, timely and always willing to help another biker out. Note that he's closed Sundays and Mondays, but the rest of the week he's in there long after the sun goes down. read more
