Management may want to consider character of the employees they hire. I left them with a backpack when I had an issue with my card, apparently that entitles them to ransack it. When I returned for for the bag it was brought out by management from behind the bar, so an employee is most certainly responsible. I don't want the $150 (value of the items stolen), just that this review remains. read more

The Quartyard is my favorite place downtown, being a local and living in downtown it's nice to have a comfortable relaxed place to hang out, enjoy a good craft beer. I'm actually a cider fan. Try the rose!!! The food is excellent for bar fair, hello Kobe sliders and the steak fries are insane!!! One star today because a "private" event has caused them to lock all the doors btwn the dog park and the business, causing dog owners to forfeit purchasing drinks. Most of the business here is generated by the regulars who are dog owners who drink while their pups play. No notice was giving and not even signs posted. Just padlocks on the gates. Not cool, bad business decision. read more

What an awesome concept--an outdoor area to eat, drink, listen to live entertainment, play with your dog, and hang with friends. I wish there were more places like this in SD. The dog area is small but I'm not complaining! There were tons of dogs and everyone was so darn happy. There were two food trucks there and we tried some tacos from one of them. It was a toss up whether to eat at the truck or at S&M meats. Next time, S&M. I can see this place getting a bit hot in the sun of the day, it IS in a parking lot after all--so I'd prefer to come after dark. read more

One of my new favorite spots in San Diego! With warmer nights approaching I can only assume this outdoor venue will become more popular. The bands chosen to play here are always amazing and because the venue is so open you don't feel jammed in like you would at a bar. The drinks and food are a little on the high end but you do get a great food truck selection and there are cheaper drink options like beer in cans. Great atmosphere and overall a nice concept to have in San Diego there should be more bars like this. read more

This place is pretty great. I've been here on multiple occasions. We came here originally thanks to a co-worker's recommendation and were able to take it in with some friends. Great place to grab a beer or drink with friends while in East Village. We came a second time for the Maker's market (i think that's what it was called) and I even brought my dad by to show it off. This is a great use of space. I heard it was a means of inspiration from students across the tracks at the design studio and it was a dream fully realized earlier this year. San Diego needs more spaces like this. They help make the city feel a bit more creative by taking an empty parking lot and make it useful. There's something here for everyone. Dog park- for the canine lovers, Bar - for the drinkers, and S&M (Sausage and Meat)/Food Trucks for those of us who are consistently hungry. I will also make a special mention to the Meshuggah Shack, whose caffeinated delights help me stay awake during all hours of the day. I highly recommend visiting during their Thursday Night markets and stick around for a bite, a drink and potentially some music. It's a fun place to meet great people that otherwise would only be standing in a deteriorating parking lot. Good Job Quartyard. read more

I was in the mood for a margarita so I gave it a try. Bad idea. It tasted like lemonade. First she filled the glass to the brim with ice. I asked her to take some of the ice out but she said that's how they measure. Why not just use a jigger I thought? Well of course, the old ice trick. Rip off alert right here folks! By using so much ice, the amount of alcohol is diluted. They charge you for a full drink and give you about half a drink. Ouch! And to top it off the bartender, with dark hair pulled up, had a sullen look on her face. She didn't even smile once and it was a beautiful Friday afternoon. C'mon at least be happy, make some small talk, you're a bartender after all! Disappointing straight up! read more

First time here, it was a Wed after a Padres game, so not really hopping. Cool concept: Completely outdoors, food and adult beverages. Dog Friendly (dog park next door in fact). There was a stage that had couches set up like a living room. And Wifi. Lost a star though because by bf ordered a margarita without realizing it was part of the "draft" menu, and did not like it. There were two cocktails on draft. The draft beers were good though. And they were pretty good about letting us taste before pouring our pint. read more

A mentor of mine started this concept in another State and city and I couldn't wait to see SD's version. I came from another private event and stopped over heading back to my car. So awesome to have this in the Gaslamp /East Village area. Right off the bat one of my quirky fun coffee shops greets me with their luv, the friendly security chats with me and gives me free swag. Awesome logo beer glass. The DJ was spinning music on stage. Even the security couldn't stop moving to the beat. I caught eyes with a hottie about 30 feet away and we lip synced along to the music until we were face to face dancing and grooving. Got to luv these Fun Diegan's! We were enjoying the summer weather although it's barely spring and not giving a damn who saw. This is the spot! Thank you for that awesomeness hottie! The ATM is housed in a London phone booth. So cute. People everywhere just enjoying themselves. The quality of food and local beer. There's a doggie park, a stage and all of the businesses are housed in recycled or is the correct term repurposed moving containers? Which ever. I even got hooked up by the cool gals on the way out for a free hour bike ride. Let's ride honey! Had a fantastic day and time here. Going back very soon read more

Thank goodness for more outdoor space downtown! Silo/Makers Quarter is nice, but a gal gets tired of wearing her practical shoes to a party just because of the dirt. Here, I can rock my best footwear and only need to watch out for puppy poops. BECAUSE DOG FRIENDLY! YEA! Team pup and suds all the way! They've got Sausage and Meat for snackies, some awesome brews of draft, and a stage for singing and preformin' and stuff ya'll. Picnic table for sittin' a fenced in dog yard for playin' and pretty much all the things that make lazy Sundays downtown the best. Can you see me gettin' a little country here. It's outdoorsy and all but still nice enough for my fancy kicks. Here's to hoping no one decides to put a high rise on top of this little lot, because the people man, they like it. read more

Writing this review after several visits. The Quartyard is a great new concept of using underdeveloped downtown/urban sites instead of just letting them become underutilized parking lots. They've done a nice job of using shipping containers for bar/food/stage as well as bathrooms. The site is largely asphalt, with some gravel spaces for food trucks as well as a sometimes used area off to the side with AstroTurf/artificial grass. The on site vendor, Sausage and Meat provides quality beers and food and the nearby bar container provides a full bar and quality craft beers at downtown prices. 5 trees and 6 umbrellas provide all the shade you're gonna get unless you happen to be caught by the edge of the stage roof. Almost forgot, there's a coffee shop at the entrance too, though I haven't tried it out yet. Bottom line, this place gives you everything you need to have a great time! Enjoy! read more

I really liked the old Quartyard, but the new location is very disappointing. It's much smaller, has limited alcohol selection, and the neighborhood leaves a lot to be desired. 2 stars are for the good service at the bar, but I won't pay those prices to sit on a bench when I can go down the street, get table service and a better atmosphere. read more

We went in expecting happy hour since many Yelp posts indicated a good happy hour. Evidently they have moved from another location, and have not established a happy hour menu yet. Dog friendly!! There's even a dog park you can have your drinks while the dog plays!! Great beer selection, nice outdoor space. We were there on a week night with a big group & quart yard was the perfect spot!! Free Parking is tough, especially if you go during a Padres game. There is a pay lot there though. The dog park is great! Although it would be nice to have some cleaning products on hand. The park is easy turf teas not real grass & the smell of dog waste was pretty strong when we there. After many months, I finally made my way to East Village to check out Quartyard. To be quite honest, considering I went on a Saturday night, I expected just a little bit more out of it. I get that it's likely that the majority of people in Downtown San Diego are probably hitting the bars or clubs rather than chillin at Quartyard. In addition, I am not one of those people who are interested in that sort of nightlife (Grandma at heart, lol!!) While I wasn't expecting a high-energy environment, I was sort of hoping for more selection in food and/or drink vendors. My friends told me food trucks were parked out front when they went in the past, so maybe I just went on the wrong night. It did get pretty cold as the night went on, some heat lamps would be greatly appreciated! I noticed they plan to host live music at the venue, so I am looking forward to that :) All in all, my Saturday night was well spent with friends at Quartyard. I liked how there was cornhole and other games set up for people to use. I do plan to come back, hoping at least one of my notes are fulfilled by then! read more

This is a fun concept: think outdoor concert venue plus craft beer bar plus cornhole plus dog park plus food trucks. When we visited, there was no concert and it was later in the evening, so the venue was mostly empty. But we had fun playing corn hole and enjoying a solid draft list of local SD beers. Since it was off-peak hours, the Sausage & Meat food stall wasn't open, but it was later in the evening and we had already eaten, so it wasn't an issue. I think the concept is unique and will continue to do well. For those wondering, this is closed during the winter and opens back up for the summer. read more

The new venue is nothing that it used to be. Its 1/4 the size that it use to be and now it's farther down in the rough part of town. The security guard patting me and the other guys in line made everyone really uncomfortable by aggressively grabbing all of us and saying weird stuff. There's barely any seating anymore which made for an even worse experience having to stand the whole time. read more

This urban renewal concept is pretty damn brilliant. There's a lot to like about it. Here's the deal: There used to be an abandoned, neglected old parking lot on the corker of Park & Market -- which is obviously prime real estate, and nobody wants to see it go to waste. Enter some creative artists and architects, who obtain permission from the city to clean up the site, artfully stack shipping containers all over the place, and build a beautiful new stage. All of a sudden, the old parking lot is a busting dining, drinking, and entertainment venue called The Quartyard, with all the bells and whistles. (By "bells and whistles", I actually mean clean restrooms.) Currently, S&M (Sausage & Meat) has opened a new satellite outpost of their Hillcrest location. Meshuggah Shack is also serving coffee. There were also a bunch of food trucks whose names I didn't catch -- but I would imagine that these rotate in and out. Also: booze spilled everywhere (because this is downtown San Diego, duh). I'm crossing my fingers that the Quartyard ultimately becomes a permanent fixture of the San Diego landscape. read more

What a cool idea! The people at quartyard think outside the box, and cook/deliver drinks from inside the box (shipping containers)!! We went to Quartyard with some good friends and found a music venue, bar taps, great food, food trucks, and a dog park I was left wondering WHAT MORE COULD ANYONE WANT?!?! We had a great time, had some yummy tacos from the food truck, my buddy had a really good looking sandwich and his girlfriend had a salad she said was great. I tried hard root beer for the first time and was blown away, and everyone else found great beers on the many taps. Very cool venue in a location where I am hoping it will help improve the area! I ended up at this place on the Saturday evening and was excited that we had ended up here because I have been meaning to want to try this place. I didn't get to try any of the food trucks, although I think there was probably one or two that evening, but I did get to enjoy a drink with great company. I really liked that they have corn hole here and that it's an outdoor space. On warm summer nights like the ones we have been having recently this is seems like a great place to go to! I was the only one in the dog park and some weird guy with no dog came inside the park and picked up my dog and started talking to me and would not leave me alone. Really bothered that security was there and they didn't realize the situation and ask if I was okay or for him to step out since he had no dog. I really wish someone had came and helped me to get out of that uncomfortable situation because I just felt paralyzed and I couldn't tell if this guy was homeless or not. He was maybe 6'4 and old with long ear length brown and grey hair and green eyes. Very crooked teeth and fit like he worked out but was carrying a weird box that looked like a router in two ties.
