I just stopped in at que vida for the first time. I had to grab a cake next door so thought I would grab some tacos. I haven't even tried the tacos yet but I'm already leaving a review purely based on the service.... It was phenomenal. I dealt with a man named Anthony. He was amazing. Just wanted to give a shout-out to the veggie burrito here so that it never gets discontinued! I'm always on the hunt for a good veggie burrito that has actual vegetables in it, not just a bean, rice and guacamole combo. This burrito was so flavorful and tasty and creamy with avocado and sautéed veggies! I finally found the spot I'm going to when I want a god veg burrito! Out of towners: The service was ok and the people were friendly. Stopped in and was told it was Taco Tuesday. So we did the three taco plate special $11.99 we tried the Asada, Al pastor, shrimp, fish and carnitas. The Al pastor and fish were really good! Asada and carnitas were ok and the shrimp tasted like more of the batter than anything. We also ordered birria fries from the happy hour menu. They brought us two birria tacos instead, we sent them back and asked for the birria fries we ordered. Took a while and then we got Asada fries. Not what we ordered but we weren't gonna send them back for a third time so we ate them. They were nothing to write home about. Definitely wouldn't order them again. Not authentic street tacos but the tacos were good but not filling. Over priced for what they were and no rice and beans. read more

A new favorite! I have now eaten here many times and would go back every day! The tacos are exceptional! Honestly, I've been working through the menu and each one is a perfect blend of ingredients. My favorites are the fish and shrimp. My husband said the mulita is one of the best he has ever eaten. My one year old loves their rice and beans. The owner is very kind and shared a lot about the menu. He took time to chat, which was nice. Seating area is nice and clean. You order at the counter and bring it to the table. We will very likely go back within the next few days and love recommending Que Vida whenever someone asks for a good spot to try. read more

Delicious tacos! All of them were delicious! The breaded fish taco was a little too breaded but still yummy! My favorite was the cochinita pibil, so flavorful and filling. We sat at the bar and big shout out to Johnny who was busy as the bar was packed but always made time to refresh margaritas for everyone. Ambiance was busy on Tuesday. I visited this location in Costa Mesa, which was I believe relatively new. The menu has a lot on it, so I decided to try three of their tacos: 1. The Carne Asada taco: I was looking forward to this taco, but it had no flavor. I was anticipating the salty garlicky flavor of a good carne asada meat, and this specific taco tasted more like boiled beef. It was a good size, just lacking flavor. 2. The Baja Fish taco--Of the three, this was the best I had. It had a nice crunch and was served on a corn tortilla with cabbage, lime, and a mayo-based sauce. 3. The Chicken taco: Gross. Just flavorless, with a watery sauce that made the entire taco fall apart before I could even take a bite. Seemed like only the boiled chicken and the watery clear/milky sauce in this poor choice of a taco. The pricing was high for what you get here. There are other, more authentic options nearby. read more

I was visiting friends in Orange County and practically dragged them to this restaurant for lunch because of the good reviews. It was Cinco de Mayo, so they had a few specials on offer. I ordered the taco plate with refried black beans. I enjoyed the Al pastor taco the most. I also ordered a piña flavored aquas frescas. It was tasty with a perfect amount of pulp. The thing that made this visit subpar was the fact that I found a twist tie (like something you'd tie a bread bag or something closed with) in my refried black beans. I was lucky that I didn't end up swallowing it. I immediately walked the bean container up to the counter and showed them the twist tie. The man apologized and asked if I wanted more beans, but after finding that in them, I wasn't interested in more. That's it. I would have expected them to offer a refund on the beans or an offer for a discount next time, but after I turned down a refill of beans, nothing else was said. I felt like the situation should have been taken more seriously. That whole situation really put a damper on what could have been a great meal. read more

First visit here, and it lived up to its hype. We took recommendation from manager Tony, and had fish taco, Al pastor taco, carnitas taco , chips and salsa with guacamole and finally churros. Absolutely delicious! Everything tasted fresh and their chips and tortillas were made in house, and really pulled all the flavors in for me. On the street that didn't need another restaurant, Que Vida seems to be settling in quite nicely and getting a reputation as one of the go-to Mexican food spots in the neighborhood. I had two different friends recommend it this week so I popped in for some takeout today. Since taking over the space from previous tenant Caliente's, they've expanded into the space next door, tripling their dining space in a great way. Chairs looked comfy, music was a good level - I could see settling in for a great meal with friends. Since I ordered takeout, the 4 stars is a reflection on the food itself. Really good overall. Ingredients were fresh and well packaged. I had the birria tacos, which came with a side of au jus, making it the taco version of a French dip which felt well thought out. Great flavor. It was a lot of meat! One taco would have been plenty - I'd rather have had the meat of one taco divided between two for balance. Salsa flight was a yummy side - loved the red and green salsa, the bright red-orange pureed one was a little spicy for me. Churros was where they lost me - they were more like French toast sticks, very doughy, rather than my expectation of airy inside and crispy sugary outside. I like a churro that is delicious on its own - these needed the dipping sauces (which were good). Service was friendly and food was ready on time based on my online order. Would I make a return visit? Sure. But I also might find another Mexican place down the street at a more moderate price point. read more

We got two breakfast burritos, one with bacon and one with no meat (no protein) they came out quickly however both were drenched with an odd Chipotle mayo type sauce to the point that you couldn't taste anything else, the potatoes in one of the two burritos were grossly under cooked by about 3 minutes, there was maybe 1/4 of an egg added to each burrito so much so that it was hard to find any egg in each and the bacon burrito seemed to only have 1 single slice of bacon. One of the weakest breakfast burritos we've had recently. As for the ambiance it was rather dark and cold on the inside. Spacious but not too well decorated. Overall they're 1.5 to me but giving them a 2 for service and Tortilla quaility. read more
