Nestled in Queen Village sits this fun and friendly cafe, perfect for a date night or friend group seeking common and rare games alike. In terms of casual activities for a day or night out, this spot is a must-stop! The walls are chocked full of board game classics, mixed with limited edition versions and specific ones you've likely forgotten about too. I visited with three other friends and we enjoyed our experience, with a small $7 entry per person for a 2.5 hour reservation. There's also arcade games available, although we opted to skip those for our visit. Queen and Rook also serves a full food and beverage menu with alcoholic options, but note that it's a vegetarian selection. The fries and beers were still a great supplement to eat and drink as you game.

Nice board game bar, friendly staff, clever Powerpuff Girl drinks. Fun place. Has a balcony patio, and multiple floors.

Came here on a busy Saturday afternoon and it only gets busier on Sat night. This place does well because they have some space, helpful staff, and enough working video games! The Star Trek the Next Generation pinball game lets you play with multiple balls at once!! So much fun. Apparently we were told the wrong prices for the board game and video game combo despite asking beforehand but my friends and I got the discount typically offered during the week only. Considering some of the games that seemed to be down, seemed like a fair price too. They didn't have enough staff but the ones there worked hard. I asked them if I should pay for my butter beer separately or combine with the bill and Q&R told me to combine. They didn't add it on and maybe because there was too much going on and my butter beer didn't seem as good as I "remember" at the prior location. I also asked for rosemary parmesan add on but the server surprisingly didn't have a notepad. They didn't add the rosemary on but they also didn't charge me for it. I didn't want to bother the service for this small change. It was a great experience for me and my friends despite the minor hiccups. I even wore a chess king belt and brought a chess board to talk smack to one of my friends! Thank you Q&R!!!

This place is so fun!! If you're looking for something different to do with your friends or cold day activities, put this on your list! Located in old city philly, this place looks straight out of a fantasy book. It's chock full of board games I didn't even know existed and can be a bit overwhelming your first visit but they had these game "sommeliers" who walk you through everything and pick out a few games your group may like. They have 2.5 hour booking times which you can easily kill and is a great way to spend a weekend with a big group. They also have food options to snack on while you're playing which can all be made vegan (really appreciated this).

Love the concept, the extensive menu, and the game options, but had some trouble with our service. I'm not sure if they were understaffed ahead of the holidays or what, but it took us multiple reminders to the bartender/servers every time we ordered something. For example, I asked about the tea options and I had to ask 3 separate times before someone brought them over because not all the working staff knew anything about their teas. We had a fun time, it was just super slow to order and get answers on certain things!

Queen & Rook is a cute board game spot to chill with friends, family, spouse, whatever. Their selection is preeetty extensive and it's cool that ultimately all of their staff are well versed in the games that they have to offer. Their drinks were okay and the same for the food. It was kinda like your local college bar food. The coolest part is their arcade in the basement. Cheap games and a very little bit of the classics. Somehow it smelled like feet down there but none of the games required you to take your shoes off? Eh well. It was a cool experience and something nice to have if you're near South street.

Fantastic start to finish! Made a reservation online, friendly greeter, friendly server, super knowledgable game helper. The vegan pizza was delicious, and we discovered a new fun game. The decor is fantastic. Highly recommend for families, couples, friends!

Wear your dancing shoes for the arcade. They have DDR!

The new location at 123 South St is buzzing with fun! Strongly making a reservation for the table/board games on the Queen and rook website to avoid the wait. The game master (Wesley) was extremely knowledgeable about the games and offered 5-6 various options based on our group's interests and ages. A wonderful place for families with kids who love to play new games. Upstairs board game and restaurant room: $7/person per hour. Scan the menu with QR code, order food and drinks from the servers and find the games you want to play along the wall with the help of the game master. Ask the servers for pens/pieces that might be removed from the games. Return all games to the table at the front for cleaning. Service for food was really friendly and the vegetarian and vegan food options were decent. Despite the Saturday night crowd, Jilian was unwaveringly kind, patient and helpful. Bartenders know what they're doing. The kids menu delivered for two picky 8/9 year olds. I can vouch for the kids Mac and Cheese (with dairy) and the crispy Brussel sprouts. Downstairs arcade was less crowded. At $15/adult and $10/child for 1 hour, you can get your fill of old school games from the 80s and 90s. Beverages are also offered here. Dance Dance Revolution Extreme is still fun and I have to say, there is some level of pride in showing my son how to dominate in Street Fighter II and the power of Chun Li! Four clean all-gender bathrooms available downstairs and one large one upstairs.

The main downstairs space. They also have a bar.

If a person wants one with cheese, they just need to order the The Pennsport Burger. This makes it fair for us lactose intolerant people, because we are not having to pay $16 for a burger that has cheese we cannot eat. Instead, we order a classic burger for $13 and it is quite good! Most places in philly have tried to get me to pay for the burger with cheese price and they become angry when I say "No thank you, I will not pay for cheese that I'm not going to eat, so I will refrain from ordering". Then I walk out. Some of them offer to refrain from adding the cheese, but they still want me to pay for the cheese. Outrageous. Anyhow, Moonshine has a new fan because they are not unethical. The vibe is horror movie chic, if ya know what I mean. We were greeted and seated promptly and immediately checked out the menu to see what we should try. We asked for the macaroni balls as an app, but they were sold out. A few minutes later, we were told we could order them bc the chef had made a new batch. Yay!! So, we started with the Mac balls and seitan Korean wings. Our apps arrived and I must admit. I enjoyed the seitan wings more than I did the Mac balls. The Korean BBQ (seitan) wings had an amazing sauce that truly made me forget I was at a vegan restaurant. They were crispy, savory, and just delicious. I decided to go with the gyro and my partner went with the cheese steak for his entree. My gyro was yummy! The impossible beef, lettuce and tomato were reminiscent of a regular gyro. I truly couldn't tell the difference. My partner loved his cheese steak too. Monster vegan is a HIT!! Would we try it again? Absolutely!!

The restaurant itself is super cute small, cozy, and BYOB (definitely bringing a bottle next time). It was pretty empty when we went, which we didn't mind at all. It gave a relaxed vibe, though the service was a little slow. That said, it worked out since we ordered a variety of dishes and weren't in a rush. Linda was our server--very nice and attentive. What we ordered: Spicy edamame: really good, great flavor to start Miso black cod two pieces, but thick, flaky, and buttery with a slightly sweet sauce and shredded carrots. Taste a piece of the fish with the carrots. Yummmm Oyster uni spoon: a standout. The roe bursts in your mouth and the flavor melted together! Made my taste buds happy! sooooo good!!! Fried oysters: nice and crunchy, really good. The sauce drizzled over the cabbage pulled it all together Tuna Tango roll - looked nice, but just okay. Didn't do much for my taste buds Sushi burger - delicious!!! Everything worked together and it looked really cool too! Drinks: Yuzu citrus sparkling drink - refreshing but just okay Green tea - very light, not bold at all, more like lightly flavored water We really enjoyed the experience and will definitely be back. Next time I'll try a different specialty roll since the Tuna Tango didn't hit for me.
