Came here on a busy Saturday afternoon and it only gets busier on Sat night. This place does well because they have some space, helpful staff, and enough working video games! The Star Trek the Next Generation pinball game lets you play with multiple balls at once!! So much fun. Apparently we were told the wrong prices for the board game and video game combo despite asking beforehand but my friends and I got the discount typically offered during the week only. Considering some of the games that seemed to be down, seemed like a fair price too. They didn't have enough staff but the ones there worked hard. I asked them if I should pay for my butter beer separately or combine with the bill and Q&R told me to combine. They didn't add it on and maybe because there was too much going on and my butter beer didn't seem as good as I "remember" at the prior location. I also asked for rosemary parmesan add on but the server surprisingly didn't have a notepad. They didn't add the rosemary on but they also didn't charge me for it. I didn't want to bother the service for this small change. It was a great experience for me and my friends despite the minor hiccups. The game master (Wesley) was extremely knowledgeable about the games and offered 5-6 various options based on our group's interests and ages. A wonderful place for families with kids who love to play new games. Upstairs board game and restaurant room: $7/person per hour. Scan the menu with QR code, order food and drinks from the servers and find the games you want to play along the wall with the help of the game master. Ask the servers for pens/pieces that might be removed from the games. Return all games to the table at the front for cleaning. Service for food was really friendly and the vegetarian and vegan food options were decent. Despite the Saturday night crowd, Jilian was unwaveringly kind, patient and helpful. Bartenders know what they're doing. The kids menu delivered for two picky 8/9 year olds. I can vouch for the kids Mac and Cheese (with dairy) and the crispy Brussel sprouts. Downstairs arcade was less crowded. At $15/adult and $10/child for 1 hour, you can get your fill of old school games from the 80s and 90s. Beverages are also offered here. I've only came here a few times and enjoyed it. However in my last visit, I made a customer complaint of a strong unpleasant smell coming from one of the servers. This was back in summer. Afterwards, I didn't think much of it and months passed. I tried making a reservation this past week. I called on the day of to confirm it was still there. Everything was fine. Minutes later, I receive a call back from the manager telling me my reservation was cancelled and I was not allowed to come. The manager said I made a comment on the server's appearance. I did not, I made a comment on their smell, which greatly affected my experience. However they insisted they looked into it and said there was no smell. I didn't make a complaint just for the sake of making a complaint. My entire party smelled the terrible stench. However instead of considering my complaint is valid especially when you consider the server is handling your food and drinks!. I was instead punished by being banned and unable to make reservations at this establishment again. I tried to talk to the manager about it, but they refused to actually discuss it. They had no problem banning me but when it came to having an actual discussion of what occurred, they completely brushed off what I said. I felt this was an unprofessional response and disrespectful to me. Furthermore, they said the server had made complaints about me and my group before. We've never done anything wrong to any of the servers here. It felt like they held a grudge against me for making a complaint so many months ago back in summer. The complaint was made off on the side away from the general seating area. This establishment has shown its true colors. Under the laughs of board games and coffee, the people are unwilling to take valid complaints and will punish you for it and prevent you from trying to discuss the issue with them. They will make false complaints such as of me making a complaint on "appearance". You know it wasn't appearance, I clarified right away, I never said anything on how they look. It felt as if they wanted to push a certain narrative and didn't want to apologize. It was one genuine bad experience I brushed off months after, why couldn't you guys do the same? In additional to all that, a friend called after. I've already understood I won't be going, I told my friends to go without me. He called and gave them his name. Based off name alone and no other information, they made assumptions and asked if we were related. Both our names are Arab and similar. With no other information to go based off, you make an assumption like that based on names of middle eastern origin. I find this odd and question the integrity of the people at this establishment. Unbeknownst to my wife and I, the Queen and Rook is a vegan restaurant which came as a surprise when perusing the menu. No worries - the food looked and smelled delicious and we were going to be adventurous. We ordered the vegan chorizo nachos, blistered shishito peppers, and some of their French fries. The food ROCKED. You know what else rocked? Our service. The owner was on hand making drinks, our server was so welcoming and making suggestions, and all of the other staff had big smiles. We felt like we could have been regulars there. Their game library is expansive covering older games, family games, and modern strategy games. Took my grandson here yesterday for the first time as the place we used to go out in the burbs, nearer to where we live, is now permanently closed. We were welcomed and explained how things worked. The guy who helped us choose games was very knowledgeable and we were pleased with the choices. He did come by after we had played for awhile to see if we needed any other games, which was good timing as my grandson had just decided he wanted to play Battleship. As for food, we split 4 appetizers. We both were pleased with the fries and the mozzarella sticks. I didn't really like the breading on the fried mushrooms. The edamame came out considerably later than the other items. The dishes were cleared promptly, which left more space to play. We also lucked into street parking almost right outside the door, so I didn't have to explore any nearby lots. Though I love board games and had high hopes for the new location; there are a number of problems. Chiefly, there is no air conditioning. This is really not acceptable in a city where summer temperatures regularly are in the 90's, especially with no warning on their website. The four fans in the space were not sufficient. Secondly, their food is actively bad and always has been. I'd hoped the food would improve with the move to their new location but the menu hasn't changed and the food is exactly the same. Third problem is the service. The last time my partner asked for the sauce that was supposed to come with his meal 3 separate times and never got it. This time we had to ask for utensils after our food had already arrived, as well as refills of water, and the service overall was extremely slow. Fourth problem is the quality and state of the games. Many are extremely old and falling apart. We wanted to play exploding kittens but they only had the NSFW version because the original "got played so much it fell apart". Lo and behold, the NSFW instructions were literally in 4 pieces and the cards themselves were also ripping. This is one of the most popular games in the country and you are a board game cafe. Buy another few copies if you know they're getting played to death??? Meanwhile, the most popular modern board games (Wingspan, Ticket to Ride, Quacks, etc) are often in use because there is only one copy of them while the shelves are overtaken by things like Trivial Pursuit: Desperate Housewives that no one ever plays. The pictures of the shelves look amazing but people only actually want to play like 1/4 of them and the rest are junk, meanwhile they don't have many of the most popular modern board games. read more

But if you come in a group of 4-5 they have mock tatami rooms which would be cool to play games in. The cocktails are underwhelming and didn't seem like there was alcohol. I ordered the Patronus ($14) and It tasted not much of anything :( and I like elderflower gin drinks too. The butter beer wasn't good. It was just sugary, lacking any dimension. With a dash of cinnamon on the whipped cream to give it a "butter beer" touch to it. I would only order the beers there, they seem more worth your money than the cocktails. I think the food is lacking for what you're paying. The kimchi fries were $14. They were decked out in cheese sauce and Mayo. The kimchi and scallions were fine With the fries, but the flavor was hidden under all the cheese. The fries were soggy. Also I thought the waitress we had was pretty sketch. Like usually waiters say "would you like to add extra ___ for an additional price of $____" I've also been honest with customers about pricing when I waitered.
