Stopped by this morning looking for a quiet place to grab a bite and get some reading done. Parking nearby was pretty quiet on this day after Christmas, but given my experience of the neighborhood, I'd bet it's usually difficult. Got two of the more popular sandwiches and was pleasantly surprised! They were delish! Didn't get any coffee though, so can't speak to that. Service was friendly and quick. Honestly enjoyed having decent wi-fi and a dead quiet environment this morning. Other cafes are sometimes too noisy with cross-conversations and background music, so this was pleasant change of pace. Only thing that I'd like is a nicer visual environment-- decor and the environment seemed hodgepodge and like it wasn't a lot of intention done to make it a nice space for chatting or working. I was looking for a good spot to sit and get some work done with my manager. We struck out at Rival Bros with no seating available and made our way to B2. The pros: + Great wifi + Really massive menu with sandwiches, smoothies, coffees, breakfast, matcha, etc + Friendly staff + Plenty of seating The cons: + Unfortunately my latte was...pretty bad. I went with a strawberry almond latter and it was bitter and burnt espresso. Basically undrinkable. + Did not give the cleanest / most well-kept of vibes. Secondly, the new owner kept coffee supplier and some menu items, which is not a bad idea. Yes they changed a lot but also kept a lot of things the same. One downside that I wish they didn't change is they don't have any vegan pastries any more. Zero options. Otherwise I like coming here on occasions to work or just for coffee. read more

I've been really excited to try this spot for a while since their menu promotes having both gluten free bagels and rolls. I assumed (should have checked but still) that the gf roll would be baguette style since they were listed together and ordered the Brie honey on one... I got a soggy gluten free hamburger bun with a few slices of lukewarm Brie and honey slapped in the middle. When I asked to have it toasted in hopes of making it more palatable I was told it had been, which I'm still confused by. Giving 2 stars because the strawberry green tea was still good. read more

So I did so, guy picked up the phone and was literally like "idk what you're calling me for, you can just open the door" I open the door and place my order with him, he mumbles something, I can't understand him, I ask him to repeat himself and once again I couldn't hear him, so I told him to speak up please He yelled "CREDIT CARD, your CREDIT CARD" at me. It's AWESOME that they have diary-free cream cheese here! so nice to have the option not to resort to hummus, lol. The person who took my order was lovely. I think some parts of the ambience could use a revamp, but the mural is great. A lot of smoothie and juice options that I did not get the chance to try, but I'll be back. It's a well established fact that McThrill is hooked on indie coffeehouses (who knew?). And since I had already frequented Benn'as on a couple occasions, I've been interested in trying it's squared counterpart. So since Meredith's BBQ extravaganza brought me to the area anyway, I decided to give it a try along the way. Over aside from their being much more space nside, I couldn't see much that was different from Benna's, same artsy staff, same strong coffee, same variety of delectable treats, same price. which is normally good and worthy of the same review grade. However with Black n Brew not too far away, and hooking all of that up plus brunch and breakfast burrito I'm kind of inclined to lean toward them (and not just because I need to stop in and see if my friend Carly still works there!). But B2 was a grand place to sit and read a book in. And apparently I managed to miss out on things like veggie sandwiches and vegan soft serve ice cream. So it looks like I'm set for round two! read more

I like the Iced coffee sandwiches! Feel free to bring your dog in here too while you're ordering- dog friendly! Quaint little cafe. I got the avocado, tomato, cream cheese (I think this is #3) on a toasted white sandwich. The sandwiches are made to order so it takes like 20-30 minutes especially if they get busy just fyi. Slow Service. Iced coffee is average but I think the sandwiches are good quality and they give a decent amount of toppings. Sandwiches are about ~7. The bread makes it pretty filling. Cute spot to grab a bite to eat for lunch. It get kind of crowded inside but I saw some people with laptops doing work/studying. I think this is a good place if you're vegan. read more

Sorry to report they've changed ownership fairly recently, and the formerly friendly and engaging series of baristas that I got to know over the years have been replaced with those of a more lackadaisical persuasion. Coffee not so remarkable, either. In the highly competitive So. Philly coffee-shop market, I'm afraid B2 is not going to be ranked very high. Homey kind of place now just seems grimy. I visited B2 the other day for the first time, and tried an interesting chai tea and yogurt smoothie. It was actually really delicious and filled my need for something spicy and a bit filling. The menu of food options looked really good, too, with many healthy / vegan choices, but I will have to return again in the future and get something to eat there! This place was very crowded around 5pm on a weeknight - most people taking up a table to read or use their laptop alone. The tables were a bit crammed together - so my conversation with my friend wasn't too "private" but I do think that the single people at the tables on either side of us were listening to their headphones while we were chatting! It's at a very convenient intersection of East Passyunk near the Acme and POPE, so they definitely get good business here... and it's easy to see why! The staff were overall very friendly, the warm atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed, and the options were all that you'd expect from a coffee shop like this! I'll be back. read more

Big fan of this little café! The atmosphere was really nice: 1) lots of natural light and plants, 2) soft music, 3) outdoor tables were cute and spacious. They have free wi-fi, so it's a good spot to sit down, grab a bite to eat, and focus on some work. My food came out in less than 5 minutes, which may just be because I was there on a Sunday afternoon. Still very happy about it! Food was delicious, I got a whole wheat bagel with brie and honey, plus an iced latte. The ladies working there were also super sweet. I saw them send off a woman and her baby with a free banana, and give a homeless man an iced coffee (it was ~90 degrees out). TL;DR, Give this place a chance!!! Alright so this review actually hurts me, because I love B2. It's a cute little cafe with great coffee where pups roam free. Unfortunately, their one barista has an attitude problem. He's so moody when asked to do absolutely anything. First, I ordered a certain bagel, and made a modification (no cream cheese or something but I wanted all the toppings). He sighed and rolled his eyes and said "so you don't really want a #7 then." The next time I came in, I changed it up, and just said the toppings I wanted on my bagel. He sighed and rolled his eyes and said "so basically a #7." I was getting mixed messages. On my third visit I said I wanted to do a create your own bagel, and told him my preferred topping. He literally gave me the toppings next to the bagel, so I legitimately had to make it myself. It's so crazy because the rest of the staff is delightful, I've had conversations with one guy who makes the drawings on the tip jars and he's lovely, and the girl with the short brown hair is a delight. It's just this one guy who continues to make my trips to B2 very unpleasant. I'll probably be back bc the food and the coffee is truly so good, I'll just have to check to make sure he's not on the schedule. read more

As this is my neighborhood coffeeshop and I have been somewhat of a regular, I am having a hard time writing this review. On the one hand, this coffeeshop is reasonably priced, has plenty options for snacks/fresh juices, as well as large tables for freelancers in the Passyunk area to work at. On the other hand, this is a working cafe- in my experience people come here during the day with their computers to be productive, not to socialize. It puzzles me how often the staff gets super loud. This is not only inconsiderate, but hindering the cafe's use. I really like this coffee shop but now that Passyunk is developing, thinking of moving to Chayya, Benna's or Plenty Cafe, all situated down the block, with better conditions to get work done. read more

I stopped into B2 after picking up a package at the Southwark Post Office. It was a Saturday morning and I wanted something to munch on and some coffee to sip. This place hit the spot. B2 was full of young people all doing their normal Saturday morning things and I was lucky to grab a seat at the bar. The three people working behind the counter were all very pleasant and before I could even finish my order, there was a hot mug of coffee in front of me. That's what I'm talking about. A few minutes later, a wonderful sandwich, neatly stacked and presented appeared in front of me. It was so good that I had to take a picture with my camera. I then proceeded to eat it. It was, delicious. I was told though that the sandwiches are not normally cut so fancy. I must have gotten lucky. Either way, this place is so great for a casual meal. They have a bar and a small seating area, a variety of foods from freshly made sandwiches to a host of vegan treats that looked really tempting. Decent outdoor seating space where you can get some sun or stare at people eating outside the PUB bar. B2 has cheap iced coffee for 16oz and decent food offerings. They also have soft serve ice cream! I do feel as though they only have two people working though because when it gets busy, it seems hard for the workers. Online ordering is a must - they never really took in person orders unless they were weren't too busy, or so it seems. Not convenient for everyone, but it's ok for me. Save your credit or debit on square space so you don't need to whip out your card to enter the info while trying to order from your phone. They don't have decaf, but at least they have decaf espresso... it's a good option. read more

The baristas are complete assholes. I stopped in to have a coffee with a friend and was waiting for them to arrive. I just so happen to have had a cup from another coffee shop with me (no label and no rivalry) and planned to ask to have my coffee put in the already used cup so that I could save on waste. Within a few minutes of being there a man approached me and started to address that they have a "no cup policy". I had no idea what that meant so asked him "do you mean this cup?" He kept just saying "we have a no cup policy". I explained to him that I planned to purchase coffee along with my friend and he proceeds to ask me to leave. I'm shocked and was like "it's just a cup, I don't understand if I'm buying coffee from you what the big deal was". I even asked if I could discard the cup. He proceed to tell me "we have a no cup policy aNd you need to leave, I don't make the rules". What a psycho path. This place is great, and for a variety of reasons I will list short-hand. 1) relaxed atmosphere. 2) window seats. I love them & they make for great reading nooks with excellent sunlight. 3) dog friendly. I love dogs, and was so happy to find another place in the city that welcomes our furry friends. 4) juices and sandwiches. I've had three different sandwiches so far and all excellent. Their juices are amazing too. Pick what you want and they juice right in front of you. I'm also a big chai latte gal, and their chai is delicious. 5) plenty of seating. They have tables, window nooks, and bar seating. Final Notes: -It is cash only, so a heads up. -staff has always been super friendly to me, so cannot relate to other experiences mentioned in reviews. -I also see an ice cream machine and am looking forward to returning when it's warm out to grab a cone. read more

The new ownership at B2 is tanking the business. I just witnessed the owner come in and start a dispute with one of the baristas over the register being $60 short. It was ugly and accusatory and it was the employee that had to ask her if they could continue speaking in the back, not in front of customers. I think these employees are kind and friendly, they play good jams, and create a positive, laidback environment. Any operator who doesn't acknowledge that their employees are the key to their business do not deserve my money. Drawer shortages happen; and there are much more professional, reasonable ways to deal with it when they do. read more

I absolutely love to come here every single day of the week. The staff is incredibly nice and fast even when there's a long line. Everything is always fresh and tastes great. I ordered a chai latte here a few days ago and was immediately disappointed when the barista opened the fridge only to see her pouring the same chai concentrate that I purchase at Giant Grocery (Oregon Chai). I've been going to B2 for a long time. Years. It used to be a place I liked. I don't what happened from then to now, but the staff there (with some exceptions) is just terrible. They're so rude it's startling, treating you as if you've wronged them by coming in. What's crazy is that I start believing that I must have (because why else would they act that way?) and find myself becoming apologetic for my trespasses against them and tipping heavily to make up for my sins. But I'm just a friendly neighborhood person who comes in, asks how their day's going, order my coffee, say thanks, and leave. I don't get it! I work on the avenue and my customers complain to me about B2 (not knowing the resentment I too harbor) and my boyfriend recently was so sorely mistreated by a short haired female barista that he ranted and raved about it for a week. He now calls the barista who worked that day his nemesis (which is hilarious btw). He and I have started calling the place S2, short for "SUCK 2", because B2 seriously sucks (and we are immature with our jokes). Immature as we are in private, in public, in B2, we are very nice, we tip well, and we say please and thank you, so man, I don't know. There's a stink hanging over this place. I've been in here several times over the past year. My boyfriend lives nearby and I love espresso, but unless I am severely hungover and desperate for caffeine, I doubt I will set foot in here again. The coffee is just OK. It's too expensive and usually lukewarm. Honestly, I can make better at home for free on my own espresso machine. I do have a soft spot for their lox cream cheese, but it is not worth it to deal with the horrendous service. Dear god, the service. The staff here are so cool that you should feel honored when they decide to acknowledge you and take your money. After all, that means that they had to stop talking to each other/dancing around/making cutesy ironic signs for their vegan cupcakes. "Rude" only begins to describe the attitude here. They're so busy being so cool and special, in fact, that they rarely seem to wash their clothes and shower. The last time I came, it was 8:30 on a Saturday morning. This has nothing to do with the cell phone incident. I'm a south philly native (not one of the transplants who thinks they're cooler than thou for living in the neighborhood I was born and raised in). Lived on the avenue for years and I avoided this place always. I once asked a barista if they could make a certain drink with soy and he curtly said "you can look at the menu on the wall". A simple yes or no would have been sufficient. They never made conversation. And beyond Yelp, other people in the neighborhood have lamented "the people who work in there suck." And maybe these aren't generational people using a computer to write reviews or watch footage of events transpiring. These are community people who have felt like the people working in the shop are rude, inconsiderate, self-absorbed. Get over yourself b2. read more
