I was recommended this restaurant by a colleague. I was told they are quick, cheap and good. They are certainly quick and affordable but the jury is out on the quality. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken and cream cheese won tons. The won tons were pretty good but it is hard to screw up fried cream cheese. The Kung Pao was interesting... The flavor wasn't that bad but it came with about 2 McDonald's chicken nuggets worth of chicken. Definitely not worth $10. Perhaps it was an error on their part. I intend to revisit this place soon to give them a second chance but as for now they are remarkably mediocre bordering on bad. read more

We tried this restaurant last night. I didn't feel like supporting the big American Chinese chain restaurant. I'll break out my review by the 5 things we ordered: Egg rolls: being vegetarian, I found these a little similar to what other restaurants called "fried vegetarian spring rolls" but that was exactly what we wanted. Perfect with the sweet dipping sauce. Wor Wonton Soup: I'm still confused if there was a miscommunication in the ordering, because we ended up with 2 large deli containers of soup (so 2 quarts). The soup was a little peppery, but not overwhelming. Everything else about the soup was great. Sesame Chicken: Not much to say here, chicken pieces, fried and coated in a sweet sauce. Everyone enjoyed it. Some pieces were a little tough, but I don't see that as a bad thing, just more texture. House Special Pan Fried Noodles: on the menu, I was hoping this was something like a Chow Fun, but the person on the phone told me it wasn't. It's more like a crispy fried noodle pillow that you pour the thick mixture of meat/vegetable/sauce over. I still ordered it and found it to be very tasty. Buddha's Feast: I wanted some vegetables to go with all the meat and starch, so I got this. My family and I have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed! We always order the usual: House Special Chicken (deliciously sweet yet salty soy sauced chicken with a touch of crispyness), Orange Chicken (I can honestly say this is the best orange chicken I have had in SD- it's perfectly crunchy and sweet), Hot & Sour Soup, and sometimes we get the shrimp crispy noodles if we are feeling extra hungry! Other notable dishes are the chow mein (super fresh off the wok!) and honey walnut shrimp (although portioning for this is pretty small relative to the other dishes). The restaurant is tucked away in a small plaza and has very limited seating. This place is HOPPIN for lunch as they have amazing lunch specials (cheap and tasty!) and quieter at night with mostly to-go orders. Quick report: Quick Wok is fast and tasty American Chinese food. When I say fast I mean dinner for the fam ordered and picked up on the regular within 15 minutes. This is the physically nearest take out to our place so I feel like we were lucky when we came to the neighborhood that its good! We like the Almond Chicken, the Honey Walnut Shrimp and the soups. We always order the cream cheese WonTons and toss them straight in to whatever soup we get. #Hack It's delicious. Feel free to try it and then thank me later. Local Chinese food place ran by a family. I got the orange peel chicken while my bf got the fish fillet in black bean sauce. AMAZING! the chicken was so crispy and they flavor on the fish was on point. We also tried the cream cheese Wonton and those were good too. I left ordering five more entrees to bring home to my family. I really wanted to like Quick Wok as the Yelp reviews looked promising and I'm always on the hunt for good Chinese food. Oddly enough, my boyfriend actually did like his vegetarian dish better here than at most Chinese restaurants but I was less impressed with my lo mein with chicken and beef. I couldn't tell the difference between the two meats so either I only got one of them or they're ridiculously similar. The meat had a coating, kind of like a breading but not as thick, and it was odd as the chicken and beef that I usually find in my lo mein at other places is just cooked in a sauce and mixed with the noodles. I also ordered an egg fried rice and it was a good filler but nothing special. My boyfriend did, however, really enjoy his Szechuan tofu and said he'd get it again. I'll have to try another dish if I return though since the lo mein just didn't live up to my expectations. read more

My family and I have moved into the area 3 years ago. After we ordered from this location, the food tastes homemade and it's delicious. We order food once a month and have tried just about everything on the menu. The staff is friendly and the woman we see there recognizes my husband's voice over the phone. They have made one mistake by not packing noodles for our soup, but fixed the problem the next time we visted. The house chicken, house beef, and walnut shrimp is our must haves. I happened to be in this shopping center for another reason and decided to check out the menu for QW. After seeing something that caught my eye, I figured I should give this place a try. I ended up going with their Chicken and Mushrooms. This dish is what it says....chicken and mushrooms served with sliced carrot, snow peas and zucchini. Me, being the type that isn't all that crazy about vegetables, was pleasantly surprised at the amount of chicken that was in this dish. Unlike other places, QW doesn't try to give you an over abundance of vegetables and leave out the protein. That was a huge plus for me. The dish was served with a side of steamed rice however you could upgrade to something else if you chose to do so. I was also offered to go with either the full order or the regular order. I chose to go with the regular order and there was enough food for two. The interior is pretty basic. There is maybe a dozen or so tables along with chairs set up along the counter that overlooks the kitchen area. There are also a couple of tables outside if you'd rather eat on their sidewalk area. Granted, when I went in there were very few people inside although I went in late and I'm certain that the lunch crowd had passed. Regardless, the server was very friendly and the service was excellent. I paid $19 for a SIDE of white rice, vegetable chow mein and Orange chicken!! The chicken was lackluster to say the least. Dry, tiny pieces of chicken and not what I expect to see for a dinner size. Chow mein: no flavor WHATSOEVER, although I did like the texture/consistency of the thick noodles, but you can get that at most walk in Chinese food places. (I like the thick noodle, not thin). I'll definitely be back to try other menu items. It didn't get more stars because it's a bit on the pricey side for a 'hole in the wall' type of place ($8-$9 basic entrée). That may not seem like very much, but i can get cheaper chinese food elsewhere for the same quality if not a tad bit better. My spouse and I were very disappointed with our experience at Quick Wok. I was intrigued to try their food when I walked by the restaurant the day prior and the food of the people sitting outside smelled really good. When we came in the next day, I should have taken note of the first red flag being that the soda machine was filthy and the ice had black specs in it. When we had our food delivered to us at the table outside there was a dead bug on the bag as I opened it. I let this all go, in the hope that the food would be good (I had the aroma in my mind from the day prior). The assorted appetizer was not fresh, and I could only take a bite out of each before I threw it out. I cannot give a review of the wonton soup flavor because the smell of it was what I considered to be too close to how a cow farm smells (I am trying to be nice, and feel bad for saying that--but it did not smell good and was not close to the wonton soup that I have eaten, most of my life, at other locations)---so I threw it out. I also had the Kung Pao Shrimp and it was ok. I had read a review before we went to Quick Wok that the person had "too many water chestnuts" in their kung pao, but I had originally thought that was impossible (I love water chestnuts--and there usually is never enough). Their water chestnuts in the sauce were actually really good, but it was practically the entire dish with very little peanuts and about 9 -10 shrimp. My spouse thought the Szechuan chicken was only ok, and was not spicy as it is intended to be, and there was very little chicken in it. My soda was flat. We ended up throwing most of the food away and went up the street to another restaurant. Maybe this was an off day for them, because the aroma the day prior and the previous reviews gave us a different expectation than what we experienced at Quick Wok off Rancho Carmel Drive. read more

Never disappoints! I have yet to have something bad and I have been all over this menu. Hot and sour soup is my absolute favorite

Okaaaaay why did I JUST NOW discover this place!!!! My family and I decided to stop here after picking up from beauty supplies next store and omg are we so stoked that we did. First off all, the mom and pop vibes are real and greatly appreciated. The owners were so sweet and they loved on my daughter! We ordered the Garlic Tofu, Szechuan chicken, and egg flower soup. The portions were filling and the sauces were so damn on point that I'm actually drooling for more. My daughter LOVED her soup and it tasted like real home cooked soup that my mom would make. There's no doubt that we'll be back and making this our family staple for Chinese take out! He had brought home the House Special Beef & Orange Chicken (made extra spicy). Especially from a place called Quick Wok....I was expecting heat lamp junk that might make me sick I was pleasantly surprised. Is this the best Chinese food out there? I'm not sure, but I have been disappointed in each place I've tried in the past until now. We've gotten take out a couple times now and I met my husband there for lunch one day during the week.
