We had: -Pot Stickers (8 for $10.85): This is a pretty reliable choice. -Pork & Green Onion fried buns (6 for $14.50): I wouldn't order this as takeout again because it was missing the texture from the signature crispy bottom. -Beef Chow Mein ($16.90): This was a pretty solid dish and was quite filling. -Green Beans with Garlic ($16.90): This was surprisingly the same price as the beef chow mein. Ordered: - Garlic Green Beans (4/5): solid but the beans were a little soggy - Beef Chow Mein (4/5): probably my favorite dish. We frequently get takeout from Joyee's. Love that they have online ordering. This Joyee's has a huge parking lot so it's easy to get in and out. The mapo tofu is one of my favorites. It's not spicy and super mala but it's very flavorful and delicious. And specifically, the beef fried rice is done very well here. Also, extremely flavorful. The dumplings are ok and we alternate between the other different veggies. Great place to get takeout if you don't feel like cooking. read more

What's not to like at Joyee's? Over the last several years, I have frequented their Poway location, their Vista location and most recently, this location, located in the 4S Ranch area. I have to admit, I stopped going to the other locations as I noticed a slight down turn in the quality of some of their dishes but I was pleasantly surprised at how much better their xiao long bao was here. Plump and juicy with lots of soup, just as it should be. We are always a fan of their bok choy entree which has thin slivers of garlic in a light sauce. The flavor is outstanding and really shines. I definitely became more of a bok choy fan after sampling this dish. Of course one of my go-to items is their wontons in chili oil...a favorite of mine, while my co-workers opt for their fish fillet with black bean sauce. So much umami flavor in that one. Prices are on par with most other Asian restaurants, typically under $20 per entree with the exception of their specialty dishes being a bit more in cost. The menu is vast so there is surely something for every palate here. Though this location is not as convenient, we will still make the trek out here the next time we are in the area. 5 stars! read more

Store was not too crowded and comfortable to sit in, and the server was pretty quick with the order-taking and bringing the foods out. Jian Bing (savoury pancake) with Chinese Donut is amazing! The crunchiness of the Chinese Donut mixes well with the softness of the pancake. Fish wonton soup has a variety of tastes. The soup reminds me of Korean seaweed soup, while the fish wonton tastes like mini bites of fish sticks (in a good way). Steam shrimp roll has similar consistency to Har Gow (Shrimp dumpling in Cantonese dim sum). Will order again if there is a craving. read more

Randomly stopped in this plaza & randomly chose this place, just sounded good. What a good deal for a quick little meal! Cucumbers were so fresh, lightly flavored and crunchy. Fried rice was massive! We love coming here for a quick Chinese comfort food fix. Our kids love the chicken and corn dumplings, it's delicious and freshly steamed. You can't go wrong with their noodle dishes as well, portions are large and shareable amongst 4-5 people. The chow mein can be a bit greasy but it's typical of stir fried noodles at restaurants. The beef wrap is also good but may not be packed with thinly sliced beef heel. We would definitely come back for our comfort food cravings. read more

I spotted this restaurant a while back while we ate at Chef Zhu (in the same plaza) and decided to finally try as I was craving for some Chinese breakfast. Immediately I noticed the price of each item is higher than average compared to similar restaurants. I was also worried about the 15% surcharge noticed at the bottom (to not include tip). The salted soy bean milk was 3/5 - large portion. Great for 2 people to share. Not my favorite though. Thin pork trout - 3/5. A bit dry but overall not bad. I recommend charging less and offering smaller portion. By the 6th slice I was already no longer enjoying it. Sticky Rice Shu Mai - 3.5/5. 6 pieces and I would order this again. Sticky rice was enjoyable and tasted fresh. The tea had a weird medicine taste for $2.50 a cup I say skip! There was no choice for which tea leaf or flavor we want. I typically like strong black tea. At the end of the meal we were anticipating that 15% surcharge but luckily they did not charge us that. Not sure if they forgot or no longer enforced. This review is specifically for the weekend chinese breakfast. We have been to the Joyee in Poway.. it was tasty.. but not one that we frequent. I was surprised to see this location in Torrey Highlands in the Vons plaza. Tucked away near the pita and new shabu place it is ready to find (Vons plaza off the 56) with plenty of parking. Restaurant isn't huge but it's big enough.. we were quickly seated and there is a special limited menu for the breakfast service. We ordered lots but the jian bing but perfect. Add in pork floss..or donut.. or other toppings for a charge.. they are big and easy to share. Warm soy milk with donut was delicious and something I miss from a distant past. Noodle soup was ok.. and shrimp rice dumpling was generous. They do takeout and I definitely will be coming by again for more jian bing. Delicious!! The Popcorn Chicken and Boba Milk Tea (they use crystal boba here) are AWFUL. Some of the worst I've had anywhere. Chicken itself is rubbery and the flat battered coating doesn't have the signature crispy bubbles of authentic Taiwanese chicken. The Boba Milk Tea is definitely one of my worst, if not The Worst, milk tea experiences to date due to the sour taste and the crystal (not tapioca) boba with which it is paired. Disgusting combo! By comparison, the Passion Fruit Green Tea is a familiar syrup-based staple you find at most boba shops but delightfully refreshing. The Chicken and Corn Dumplings weren't bad, either. Went to this location since the one near our place closed. Was so incredibly disappointed by this location. First - The popcorn chicken was SOFT. Second - the popcorn chicken was in a different container and NOT full. For the price we paid, it's ridiculous.. The other location used to have the popcorn chicken in the same container and vent it so the chicken wouldn't get soft. Seems like common sense to me that you'd do that but I guess i was wrong. The best I could describe this place as is amazing service and great ambience and look, the food served was not as great as I expected it to be.. The shrimp Shumai tasted exactly like the frozen ones from ranch 99 The dumplings we got pork and chive were a bit too salty, and there was too much tendon in the meat. I will say that the potstickers skin was done very well and chewy. The best of our meal was probably the chow mein because the chicken was tender, and the flavor was spot on, so overall Joyee gets stars for the look the service and the noodles. We first ordered takeout from here and quite enjoyed it and decided to come in and try their dumplings. The Chinese food we ordered to go was mapo tofu, cumin lamb, and the beef wrap. We enjoyed all three of them to give them a shot in person and try their dumplings fresh. The food we tried today was xiaolongbao, pork and chive dumplings, popcorn chicken, and tofu and seafood pot. Both dumplings were mediocre to be honest. The xiaolongbao was honestly a disappointment because half of them had no soup. The pork and chive dumplings were better but nothing too crazy to write home about or rave about. The popcorn chicken was also not very crispy but it was a good serving size. The best dish was the seafood and tofu pot. It had good flavor and was also generous serving size. The more traditional Chinese food on the menu is good aside from the dumplings and I probably wouldn't get the popcorn chicken again. Parking is easy because it's in a big parking lot. The pan-fried pork buns, unfortunately, were a bit off. Instead of having a juicy sauce inside, the juice from the pork was more like a thick gravy. That's not the way it should be; the buns are supposed to be filled with a savory, juicy sauce that bursts out when you bite into them. The stewed pork belly with tofu was just alright. The dish was somewhat one-dimensional in flavor. Stopped in for lunch and it was the best choice!! The service was incredibly warm and friendly and the food came quickly and was delicious! I waited a long time at the counter to get my order taken and I was the only one in line. The guy was in such a rush he barely looked up at me. I have never been to this restaurant before. I did not know how the food was but I could instantly tell the service was horrible. If I have to walk up and place my order, my habit is to tip after my meal and leave money on the table based on the service and quality of the food. When I was rung up at the counter, I did not write in a tip. I then sat down. When the rude server noticed I didn't leave a tip, he came to where I had sat down and said, "You have to give a tip to dine in. If you want to eat here, you have to tip." I instantly said, "Well then let's make it to go." I waited a very long time for my to go order. A tip is based on the quality of the food and the service. We had previously tried the Joyee in 4S Ranch and it was terrible, so, coming to this Joyee at first was fraught with a little concern, . . . . . .BUT, it excelled and exceeded all my expectations. The staff at this Joyee is marvelous and friendly and they remember you and your favorites and welcome you like family!! Their Xiao Long Bao is really wonderful and having an option of something besides Din Tai Fang and their wait and prices - I would always pick this Joyee!! They have wonderful selections from all over China - their Cumin Lamb is as authentic as I have had in Inner Mongolia, their Dou Miao (snowpea leaves with garlic) remind me of my trips to Beijing, their Sichuan La Zi Ji (Spicy Crispy Chicken) is as authentic as I've had in Chengdu. And my wife loves their Shu Mai. We also love their Beef with Rice Noodles, their Beef Noodle Soup, their WonTon Soup! I would estimate that we first discovered this Joyee, we would eat there probably 2-3 times every week. And now I would estimate 3-6 time a month. Interestingly, they are just around the corner from Chef Zhu, . . . . .but in my humble opinion, well, okay, I'm not that humble because I've spent decades in China, the majority of Joyees dishes are better! We ordered: -Braised beef noodle soup: the flavor of the broth and the noodles are cooked great. -Beef wrap: this tasted dry and was not the best beef wrap I have ever tried. I do not recommend getting this. -Spicy Crispy Chicken: Definitely spicy and crispy, but the chicken was pretty dry. Now I don't know if this is the restaurants fault or the delivery person's, but when the food arrived, it was NOT packaged well. My braised beef noodle soup spilled all over the bag and made the noodle bowl soggy? We had to pour the soup from the plastic bag into a bowl and add the noodles from the ruined take out container. Luckily, the restaurant did put the braised beef noodle dish in a different plastic bag, which protected our other items. I do like their take out utensils though, these were great. From the moment we entered, the fast and friendly service here made our visit really enjoyable and memorable. We were celebrating my dad's birthday and the waiter really kindly provided us a lighter for our candles, offered to take photos for us, and gave us some delicious sesame balls! From start to finish, the staff was super nice and engaging the whole time. The noodles, corn and chicken dumplings, Xiao long Bao, and fried fish were all delicious, too. I purposely drove out here so I could eat the soup in a normal bowl rather than having the hot soup in a plastic container. Zero apology from the staff. Then multiple laughs and looks from inside. I ask for them to remake it and then when it comes back out it is luck warm/cold so they either didn't remake it and just let it sit there before brining it out or didn't heat the food before bringing it to me. When I went back in to ask for a Togo container (at this point after a few bites it was basically cold) - the woman did not say one single word to me and just handed my the to go container. I love Joyee dumpling house. I've been to each location and this one is my favorite by far. Nice quiet location that is not too busy. It is super bright and clean, and the staff is super helpful and quick. This last trip I ordered the Mongolian beef, Chinese sausage fried rice and shrimp and pork dumplings. The Mongolian beef was nice and tender with a mild kick of spice. The onions and peppers on it were a great touch as well. The Chinese sausage fried rice is my favorite. Not overly salty and the rice nice and fluffy with the sweet and savory Chinese sausage. Lastly the dumplings are always on point here, hand made, never overcooked or mushy and the mix or seasoning they use for the filling is flavorful and cooked to perfection. Price is moderate but the portion size of each dish more than makes up for it. read more

We arrived about 7:20PM on a Tuesday night. Once walked in, the waiter informed us that the restaurant would close at 8PM and order first before the kitchen closes. Appreciate the heads up. We got an order of each: eggplant with Szechuan sauce, XLB, walnut shrimp and a bowl of rice. The food was delivered to table pipping hot. Walnut and shrimp were fried crunchy. Eggplant was seasoned and cooked well with spicy sauce. Portion was good. Interior of restaurant is clean with cute decoration. It is good that there is a Chinese restaurant nearby. We normally go to the Poway location, but tonight had delivery from 4S location. It was delicious as always! We had the meatball with tofu and vegtables soup. I did not realize it was soup when ordering. But was very happy with the flavorful broth, with 4 large tender ( not leaden) meatballs, with cabbage and mushroom. We also had beef buns that were nice and gingery. Dan Dan noodles that had the spicy sauce on the side..which was nice for people that might not be huge fire eaters. Very authetic and tasty food! Joyee's Dumpling House is one of faster growing Chinese restaurants in San Diego! They now have 4 stores in the San Diego area, locating mostly outside the typical "Asian" hubs, such as Convoy or Mira Mesa areas. I visited two of their stores and really enjoyed their food. I would say the food here is authentically Chinese and has good quality just as the popular restaurants in Convoy or Mira Mesa. However, they have almost no wait time and have great service. We came in and sat down right the way. We ordered a few of the dishes we like, Shredded Pork with Baked Tofu and steam pork belly with preserved vegetables. Both dishes were excellent. The rice cake with pork and vegetables was okay. Bok Choy with garlic was exactly what you would expect. I highly recommend the dessert, ricecake with brown sugar! It was really good. It surprised me because that's not what a typical dessert but was great at the end of the meal. The portions here are huge, so we took quite a lot home and still enjoyed it. In the 626 this would be a solid 4 to 4.5 but for SD this is hands down a 5 and a gem. Every dish we had was delicious. Garlic green beans had a lot of flavor and wok hei. Xiao long baos didn't break and had good soup and good flavor and the dan dan mein had the mala (numbing spice flavor) on lock. If I had to pick at it, I wish the ginger was thin julienned ginger instead of the red pickled ginger and that the dan dan mein had more sesame flavor and peanuts. The shengjian bao while good in breading texture and meat lacked soup which was absorbed into the bread. Still good, but slight miss on this. The restaurant itself is small, but they do have outdoor seating, catchy kpop and a clean bathroom. Service is also good. Our waters were always full and they were attentive. If you're looking for quality Chinese food of dumpling and noodle variety, look no further than Joyee! read more
