My wife and I had a great time on the sunset dinner cruise. The whole check in, boarding and seating process is handled very efficiently to reduce any stress around boarding and finding a place to sit. The crew was excellent. They were very friendly and kept things moving along at a nice pace. We had drinks in hand shortly after leaving the harbor (I recommend The Pink Drink), and I noticed that those who were quick drinkers (alcohol or no) didn't need to wait long for a refresh. We got the prime rib for dinner and it was slightly above par which, for this sort of trip, I consider perfect. No one should go on a sunset cruise expecting the finest of dining. The boat trip itself was beautiful and extremely relaxing with great views of both the island and the ocean (hot tip, if it's just you and another person, you'll likely get a front row table looking straight out with unobstructed views). The captain did a great job of swinging the boat around for a perfect view of the sunset, and even though there was some low cloud cover, it was still beautiful. We were back in the harbor by 7:30, and couldn't have asked for a better evening out on the water.

Chris the Manager messaged me back right away and gave me a full refund on the fish plates. I would give the staff five stars and Company as well. The food 1 star (fish). Hopefully they get a new caterer ASAP

We loved our experience. The staff is amazing and super friendly, the drinks are good, and the live music played while boating was just right. The food is just okay, but not terrible. We had the experience we were expecting and would do it again if we ever come back to Maui.

    Setting sun behind clouds.

We've never done a sunset dinner cruise before on Maui. We heard that it is an event you don't want to miss. You get on a boat, the boat floats around and you watch the sun setting behind clouds or Lanai. All the while you are on the boat you drink MaiTais and you have fresh veggie appetizers and then a multicourse dinner. It was easy to find the Quicksilver. The Maaalea harbor is where we started the cruise. You check in, sign a release form and come aboard. Find a good safe spot inside or outside. Then watch the crew perform their magic as they entertainingly provide drink service and maintain clean tables and dish up chocolate cake. A musician makes lots of music and one of our guests actually did a bit of karaoke to a favorite tune. It is time to get all the cameras and smart phones out as the sun is shining its final rays thru the clouds. This is the big moment we came to see. Our expectations we have were misguided. The clouds and the nearby silhouette of an island obscure any setting sun and there is no green flash. The captain advises that it is time to turn the boat back toward harbor and that it would be real windy. Definitely, now is the time to get everything that is not secured to you table to get them off, or the wind will do that. So how was dinner?,,,my Mahi Mahi was fine, and unfortunately the missus was not happy that the prime rib came well done. The boat came into the harbor none too soon as many guests are starting to feel the wrath of the wind and the ocean. Would we repeat doing a sunset dinner cruise the next time we are in Maui? We might if given a deep discount.

Sat for 1 hour and 45 minutes in the hot sun as we were instructed to be 15 minutes early. What a joke, do not get there early unless you want to sit around doing nothing and sweating. Finally...... The blonde/brunette told us to start a line , but after a while people started showing up and sitting, standing in front of us. Than the "first mate" the blond/brunette said line up, first come first serve. We were the first ones there but wound up being like 30 people back. Totally unorganized. Sat on top in the blazing sun hoping that when we took off there would be a breeze, not! First off noticed the napkin was thinner than McDonald's napkins and you only got one. And the flatware was so thin, it looked like a kids set. Originally I thought we had a choice between prime rib, teriyaki chicken or Maui Maui. Again, not.. you received all three, about two bites each. I thought lobster was and additional charge if you wanted it, but had to preorder which I was not made aware of. So be cautioned. The drinks were pretty much were without alcohol and they gave you tickets before you boarded to make sure you only get two. Boarding pass should have numbers so people would actually know who was first. I recommend skipping this cruise and spending a bit more on a better cruise. I do not recommend.

Sunset view aboard the Quicksilver. Not a bad way to spend a birthday date night!

Had a wonderful time out on the Quicksilver! Dinner cruise/Whale watch is what we got! Captain Eddie kept it fun and the live music was such a pleasure. The girls on staff were wonderful as well. I should've gotten the Lobster dinner that my husband had, as I did not care for the Trio. Fish was way FISHY and pineapple beurre blanc just didn't work. Chicken was a little dry and I wasn't expecting pot roast as the beef part of the trio. Nice little steak would've hit the spot. BUT, they do cater out, so I would rather leave a bad review for their caterer, not the cruise itself.

Does anyone know how are the Quicksilver Sunset Cruise is located from the Marriott in Maui? I think its on the other side of the island, but curious if its a nice drive.

Quicksilver leave from Lahaina, very close to the Marriott. The dinner cruise is a perfect activity from that location.

There were only about 30 people the day we went but I believe they have up to 100, so a more crowded day may have a different experience. Despite being in November, we ended up seeing several whales coming to the surface (apparently they are in abundance come January). They provide snorkel gear and fins, but you are more than welcome to bring your own (we borrow fins only as we brought our own masks). They provide a simple anti fog spray which worked great. They let us snorkel for about 2 hours in the surrounding area asking us to stay within 50 yards of the boat with a buddy. The staff answered all our questions about what fish we were seeing and recommendation for how to see the best fish. There is also a glass bottom that you can climb down a ladder in the boat to see the fish without going in the water. They served lunch while docked so you could eat while you took a break from snorkeling. It was fish tacos with a selection of fish, pork or being burger meat. They had a slaw and quinoa side and some chips. Nothing fancy but o found it delicious after working up an appetite snorkeling. They had cameras for rent (extremely expensive so I'd bring your own), a photographer that took picture you could purchase for a fee ($80 for all the pictures she took of us, again a little pricey), wet suit tops for rent ($10 each) and special snorkel masks if you are near sighted (I believe this had no additional charge). The boat was pretty new, clean and open which was nice. I would 100% go out with this company again.

They always had Eddie keeping an eye on everyone in the water and helping people that dropped things that sank to the bottom. Eddie made sure you didn't get too far away. I appreciated the free mineral based coral safe sunblock. The hour at the crater and turtle town went by so quickly. Definitely try to be the first one off the boat if you can to maximize your time. They provide wetsuits for rentals if you need it. They also have a lady that is an underwater photographer and she did a nice job of trying to get photos of everyone which I think is the most difficult job on the ship. I liked her photos but thought $45 for a single photo was a bit too steep. I appreciate the fruits and pastures from Whole Foods and the coffee and also the sandwiches and potato salad and juice for lunch. They were delicious. There is something about snorkeling that makes you hungrier than normal. I always felt safe on the boat. A couple of things to point out, the boat gets pretty full so if you want to a covered seat get there early and if you want to sit in the very front you will get wet from the waves coming through the netting. Also the parking there was much more than I thought and read. It was $18ish dollars for 5.5 hrs I was parked there. The parking on the parking only goes up to 3 hours so don't risk getting a ticket even that parking is like $1/hr. The only other thing g which is totally out of the control of Malolo is the amount of tour companies to contend with when you get to the crater. It felt too crowded and too many people there. At Turtle Town there were hardly any turtles on the day we went unfortunately. I had seen more turtles on our own at other beaches than at turtle town, but I did see a couple of turtles. In general, people aren't aware of snorkeling etiquette and oblivious to their surroundings. I had snorkelers cut me off, crash into me, and taking their sweet time getting on and off the boat with the single stairs. Overall a good trip if you want to get out to the crater, but as for turtles, go to a beach on west Maui and you won't really have any issues.

The evening before my tour, I called to confirm everything. During that call, the representative noticed what appeared to be a duplicate reservation and assured me she would cancel the duplicate booking. She also recommended that I contact GetYourGuide to verify I would not be double charged. GetYourGuide confirmed that my reservation had always been for only one person and that I had only been charged once. Despite this, approximately two hours before my scheduled departure, I received a call informing me that my tour was being canceled because there were not enough passengers. I even offered to purchase a second seat so the tour could proceed, but that offer was declined. What is most frustrating is not simply that the tour was canceled, but that this issue could have been communicated much earlier. If the company knew they were unlikely to meet their minimum passenger requirement, there was no reason to wait until two hours before departure. By that point, I had already arranged transportation, incurred cancellation fees on my ride, and lost the opportunity to book another snorkeling excursion during my vacation. Yes, I was refunded, but a refund is the bare minimum when a company cancels a service for reasons entirely within its control. The last-minute cancellation created unnecessary inconvenience and wasted valuable vacation time. If you're booking with Hawaii Nautical, especially as a solo traveler, be aware that your reservation may be canceled at the last minute if they don't have enough passengers.
