As I walked into this shop, the aroma transported me all the way back to the east coast and decades. There were two people working and they were kind, friendly and fast! A few tables to have coffee and donuts. Drip coffee. Hot cocoa and ... fresh baked donuts. I ordered a cinnamon roll, a chocolate frosted and a coconut frosted, cost was about $5. Which was reasonable. I brought them home. And here is the real test. I had the cake donuts.... 10hrs after I got it. And it was soft, fresh and totally yummy!!! Saw this donut shop in the same plaza as Burma Place, my lunch destination, so decided to get dessert there. They have a large variety of classic as well as more artfully decorated donuts here. The lady behind the counter was friendly, and helped me decide on cronut instead of mini blueberry fritter. I also got a strawberry glazed French crueller. Both donuts were good. The strawberry crueller was light and eggy with a not too artificial tasting glaze. The cronut had plenty of layers and was also flavorful, with light vanilla and cinnamon notes. Our family has eaten donuts every Sunday since March 2020. It's been a routine and something we look forward to. Our favorite local shops are Donutopilos and Sesame Donuts. On Father's Day, my wife said she was referred to RB Donuts, as one of her coworkers said RB was much better than both. As I opened the box, initially, I was not impressed. One of the donuts halfway fell apart, but I remained hopeful. If you want to know how to wreck a breakfast treat - go to RB. The old fashion glazed, completely fell apart upon holding them, and tasted awful - similar to old grease all the way through. The chocolate cake donut was okay - the icing completely threw off the taste that made it unbearable. The apple fritter, again tasted like straight grease - awful! One thing about me, I love to eat...and I will typically eat anything! These donuts were so bad - I didn't even have the desire to finish them. The only reason I am leaving 2 stars instead of 0 (if it was possible), is because my 7 year old, ate hers. But when I asked how she liked hers...she put her thumb out and tilted it to the middle and said it was okay. 3.5 stars. This is probably the best place I've tried around Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Mountain, Rancho Penasquitos. I bought these on a Sunday morning so your mileage may vary on any given day/time. My gripes about most of the other shops around here are that the other shops donuts are generally to DENSE or DRY. Whereas at this shop the donuts were light and very moist. We tried several different types. However, they were a little TOO moist in that they had a LOT of oil. If they could change the recipe or the cooking method to reduce the oil by about 1/4 to 30%, then I think these would be just about perfect. read more

So, on 7/11/2021 I wrote a review of this place and I thought that it was time to give it another try to see if anything changed. I got the same donuts that I got last time so that I could try to be fair. The old fashion tasted stale and when I asked the man working if they were fresh, he said that they were made 30 minutes ago. What a load of crap! It was 12:30 in the afternoon and the kitchen area was dark. So, I stand by my first review and will not give this place a 3rd try and you should take a hard pass on this hole in the wall. read more

Very friendly owners, terrible donut shop. The decor, lighting, fixtures are all about twenty years old. The donuts were unbelievably stale, definitely not made fresh that day. We had a glazed old fashion, maple bar, and chocolate round with frosting and sprinkles. I found a long hair baked inside my donut, we threw out the whole bag to eat something else because they were all tasteless and hard. Here are my answers. - We have no idea why the donuts here are so delicious. There's a nice selection of donuts. Among my favorite are the croissants and blueberry apple fritters. The ham and cheese croissant I got had JALAPENOS, which was absolutely delicious. - The staff was nice. Unfortunately, when I try it at home sometimes the Puff Pastry is too thick in some areas. While a small bite of this very rich gooey dough is decadent, you'd barf if you ate a big piece of it.
