He then called and asked if it was a good time for him to head over and gave his ETA. When Brenden arrived he was friendly, warm, and so professional. He was able to easily see what was going on, explain to me in a way I could understand what was going on, and assured me if we still continued to hear the noise to call back. He said ge would not service it because it will only make it a couple of weeks. They charged me $89 anyways. I called and got a refund since they refused to service it. Nice that they refunded money for service they never performed. They gave me an estimate of over 10k to replace it. I called clean air act. They serviced it up and said it's still has a lot of life left. Now 2026 Chris is texting me wanting to service it on a special of $49. Why? So they can refuse to service it again? Then sometime in February Conrad texted me about a promotion they had for a tune-up and maintenance service. Happy to accept and Leo came and performed the verification. I then asked him directly, "Have I done business with you before?" No response. So I asked again. No response. It turns out, I have no record of doing business with Conrad Heating & Cooling, because we have never done business with this company! I told him I would not be scheduling anything with Conrad. This representative didn't even know what type of unit we have, confirming there was no prior relationship. The familiar tone of the initial text was a deliberate tactic to create a false sense of trust. And I find that very offensive! I'd encourage other homeowners, especially seniors who are frequently targeted by this kind of approach, to read unsolicited texts carefully. If a company implies they've worked with you before, ask specific questions before agreeing to anything. In this case, the deception became obvious very quickly.

Their quote came in the lowest and Brandon was extremely helpful on the phone, so I ended up choosing them. - The quote process was great: I submitted their online form, they gave me a call asking for more details, I sent them a few pictures, and they gave me another call with solutions and a quote. The quote also happened to be the cheapest of the 3 companies I got bids from. - The installation went very smoothly. I understand that direct vent water heaters are a little tricky to install, but Brandon installed perfectly. He arrived on time, got rid of our old water heater, and added a new water heater with several fixes: the overflow pipe now runs to the sink, he used a "flex vent" kit so the water heater can sit on the ground, and he put the water heater in a tray to reduce issues from slow leaks since I don't have a basement drain. - After the install, Brandon taught me how to change the temp / turn the water heater off / how to flush it / how to change the anode rod. Very pleased with the work and my new water heater is working flawlessly. The only downside was that there was no permit. I'm no expert on permits. Portland's website says that water heater changes require a permit. Brandon said it's a "gray area" for residential. I am not planning on selling the house and things looked good to me, so I don't mind too much.

I did not use the unit until it got cold last October and when I turned it on, I noted several cracks in the glass. I had other work being done and got the opinion of two contractors , both who stated it was due to how the glass was replaced. The cracks were like those of when a rock hits the car windshield, and travel, right where the pressure points that hold the glass in place are. I had NW Gas come out for other reasons and look at it as well. That worker stated the same opinion. I contacted the company and it was several attempts before I got a response. I was asked to send photos, which I did and for more than 3 months, no one responded to my concerns. After leaving several more messages, I got a call from someone who said the employee who did the repair was no longer with them and the cracks probably happened due to a build up of pressure from fumes?? I challenged this because it was never used after they did the work and no buildup of anything would have happened if the previous work was done correctly. After another call, I was told they wanted $120.00 to come and look at it. AT this point, I felt the avoidance of embracing my concerns would lead to no where and the lack of responsibility and the manner in which this was handled demonstrated a total lack of responsibility and clearly sabotaged the first impression of them being a quality company. The cost of a glass replacement is dear and the continuous avoidance of even looking natural it demonstrated the integrity of this company. The positive reviews are only half of what tells if a company is professional and one that can be trusted. Experiencing what I did makes Central Heating and Cooling the worst I have even hired. When the flip side of the coin is played out like it did with me, it shows the integrity, which is the backbone of worth.
