R place was legendary with their Hubcap -Porkchops , and massive pancakes, my favorite was the R place challenge- a burger which was about 3 lbs of meat, 1lb of condiments, and 1lb bun which was fresh baked daily on site. A few people conquered it, but not I. A friend & I went and split it once, and we couldn't finish. The server drops it off, and glanced at my buddy who had a funny look on his face.... And says: whats wrong sir? My pal deadpans and looks at this Massive burger which is about spilling over a full size dinner plate and says : Looks kinda skimpy, dont ya think?? The waitress and I roared with laughter. The burger was fabulous, fresh condiments, great bun, and meat was tops! Ahhh those were the days... They've fallen on hard times and closed. Shame. Breakfast is really good everything seems like it's made fresh and it comes out hot. Lunch and dinner are a little different. Many of the options I've tried seemed like the food was made from frozen or were left o er from the day before. I had a Rueben sandwich and the meat was chewy and the bread was very dry. They were nice enough but so busy running around taking orders, bringing food and drinks, running the cash register, bussing tables, they missed normal waitress duties. We never did get any drink refills, the salad bar had all the good food stuff empty and all the crap nobody wanted was overflowing. My daughter's pancakes were over cooked and too dark brown. She hated them. My chicken pot pie was so salty i couldn't finish it. Couldn't complain because there was no one to complain to. This place has gone down hill so much since COVID and never recovered. What a nightmare. R's Place has been at that location since as far back as I can remember. Good food with good prices is all anyone wants, and R's Place was a "given" here. You knew exactly what to expect. Hell, the items on the salad bar were the same for 40 years! It was a fixture, and the lines were long during peak hours. We hadn't been for awhile, and knew "something was up" when we walked in. It was pretty much empty of people. All the toys were gone. That's fine, but then we got the menu. The tiny, little menu. The prices shocked us. But okay, everything is going up, but going up THAT much? A burger and fries, $17.00? And a "Hearty" entre that had chicken and broccoli for $18.00 and that's it?? No potato? Rice? Those two starches are 6 bucks a ton. C'mon! Anyway, we ordered, reluctantly. My wife got pork chops, I got the Southern BBQ burger. The chops were what I call a "mystery cut". (See pic) It's like the deal you get at Jewel where the "good" chops are on top, hiding the chops that perhaps came from a pig with horrible birth defects. The "fresh" green beans were anything but. She said they tasted okay, but they were obviously cooked on a flattop. I told her they looked boiled. My burger was actually delicious but looking at it when delivered you'd likely not think that (see pic). I'd give it an 7 out of 10. The fries were crinkle-cut from frozen, and that's not only lazy, but it's a terrible way to make a profit. The waitress was nice, but seemed hurried, even though she only had two other tables. Slapping down tea or napkins while buzzing by kind of irritates me. I'll give the place one star for the burger, but that's all it deserves. Will we ever go again? Not a chance. Boy has this place changed. The online menu was all wrong. Chicken Tenders consisted of 6 tiny pieces of chicken and French fries for $12.99. Nothing else with it no garnishes at all. They tasted fine but definitely not worth the price. We ordered kids penne pasta $6.99 with a very small bowl of pasta no bread nothing else. The buttermilk chicken sandwich was $13.99 again with fries but no garnishes. A small Diet Pepsi was an additional $2.69 no refill. For the total of $36.66 we took no food home and had barely enough that we ate. The dinner's had the salad bar available. Not any more. The service was very slow but courteous. The senior citizen menu was not available like it always was. They didn't offer it. This place was always packed especially with seniors and truck drivers. With the ridiculously high prices and small amount of food given I would bet that's why they were so empty. This is the last time I will be eating there. It's not worth the price at all. read more

R-Place is the definition of a 3-star spot. It was plenty good, but nothing special. It is located in a large gas station and is basically your modern-day truck stop diner. I went with a group to grab brunch one Saturday morning and it was uneventful. We got our food, we ate, we paid, we left. I went with the chicken fried steak, eggs, and hash browns. You get a ton of food and it's reasonably priced but none of it really stood out. It was all "fine". I left full and satisfied but the quality of the food was nothing to note. Close to the bathrooms and showers so it smells bad when you sit near the doors in the restaurant. Looks like they didn't vacuum my the carpet for weeks. My table was dirty and sticky. I normally would consider buying a bakery item but it seems really unsanitary now. It wasn't busy there but still took a long time to get my drink and appetizer. The pretzels were burnt. The cheese was sitting out got cold and tasted like Velveeta not regular cheese sauce. Overall our experience was nice. 4 out of 5 stars only because the Chicken Pot Pie on special was not tasty & overpriced. My Pork Tenderloin was excellent. I always try & find a good one & theirs was breaded nice, not super thin & cooked well. We called ahead to assure there was room for 7. We also celebrated my birthday & Anthony was the person we spoke with on the phone. He also was there when we arrived. Very friendly service & he went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Our server Pika was good with our table. We had 2 littles with us under 6. She brought us what we needed, refills etc... At no point did we feel like we were inconveniencing the server, she was very helpful. She also brought the birthday cake out & sang happy birthday. On 2023-May-17, as we travelled to a family funeral in Iowa, we stopped for breakfast. It was a disappointing experience. My wife ordered an egg white omelet and crispy hash browns with onion. The omelet was so tough that a knife was required to cut it. And the hash browns were far from crispy. I ordered the ham and cheese omelet made with egg whites and added mushrooms. I also ordered crispy hash browns with onion. Here too, the omelet was so tough that a knife was required to cut it. And in this omelet the mushrooms were nowhere to be found. The bad it took them over a hour to get my food. The rest of the table had all eaten. There was only 6 tables in there that need a waitress. The service here is solid (and very friendly and welcoming) The only thing that I do not really like is all of those little dolls in cases that are showcased. They kind of creep me out. This place must have changed ownership after it was closed for Covid. Whatever the change, it's not for the better. A few of us went for breakfast, hoping that it would be like it once was. The first sign contradicting that hope was the menu. It was like the Cliffs Notes version of the former menu. To my surprise, though, my favorite omelette (California) from the old days was at least on it. My choice was made. The others ordered eggs, toast, and hash browns. The toast was barely toasted and their hash browns were light in color. I was happy that I ordered well done. My omelette was almost nothing like I remembered. The advertised "green sauce" that was mentioned on the menu was nowhere to be found. Most of it was cheese along with lots nad lots of cold chopped tomatoes and a tiny amount of avocado. Not much egg at all! The waitress (who was very good) commented that I hadn't eaten much yet clearly knew better than to ask what the issue was. To that end, when one in our party went to pay the $42 bill for 3 people, the hostess didn't ask the typical "How was everything?" question. I think I know why! It's located off I-80 in a truck stop and the place has a nostalgic feel to it. Love the marionette puppet show near the front. That's been around since I was a kid Food is decent. Very big variety of a menu. I ordered the Salmon fillet plain and it came with a trip to salad bar and a side of mixed veggies. The salad bar was just meh. Iceberg lettuce and standard toppings. Nothing great. The salmon was undercooked in the middle. I should have sent it back but I was so hungry I didn't want to wait. (Mistake) but it was tasty and I ate every last bite. The veggies were not good - overlooked so much they had no taste. My auntie had a steak quesadilla and loved it. Mom ordered a burger and fries and I tasted a fry- it was very crisp and tasty.
