Wow wow wow. This is a not just any yoga studio. It is a community. You don't find many studios like this, and I feel truly blessed for finding it. This studio lets their teachers lead the classes how they feel most comfortable, and it shows. There is no "set sequence" so you'll get a variety of poses in any class you take. This is important to me not only as a teacher myself, but as a student. I like variety, I like flavor, I like not knowing what is coming next. I've practiced for over 10 years, and this is the 1st studio that has felt like home. The teachers are all wonderful to chat with after class, and they love feedback. Jenny and Bobby, the owners, really know how to create a family like atmosphere and their cult following shows. They have created a true gem in OC. I love RA. And take Laurie's class. Seriously. Chelsea A is a terrible instructor. If she wants to have a "tough love" attitude and aggressively adjust people incessantly, she shouldn't be teaching at a yoga studio. People have different fitness levels, needs, and injuries that may not be apparent. This can turn people off to yoga and fitness in general. read more

I have tried to like this place and I really do not like it. The lady at the front desk has a horrible attitude. - I came in for my first class and spent a good 20 mins just trying to find parking (the parking lot is tiny) when I finally got in it was 5 mins before the class was supposed to start and the lady at the front desk (short Asian lady) told me I had to sign up for their rewards program; I asked if I could skip this so I could get to the class on time and she said it was "mandatory". I filled out the info and she said you're good to go - never showed me where to go or where to put my stuff down, I had to ask another girl who was putting her stuff away on where to go for the hot ra class. Very poor customer service for someone who is new. - Second time I went to the class the same rude lady at the front desk was there. I told her I was there for the 6:15 am hot ra class via classpass and she told me that the hot ra class was not on classpass and that I would have to pay for the class. When I showed her my phone with the reservation for the 6:15 am hot ra class she said "okay never mind" - SHADY! I won't be coming here ever again - your customer service is horrible! read more

This is a beautiful studio and all of the classes I have attended have been pretty great. The instructors are top notch and really know their stuff. My only quip is that parking is a nightmare. They literally do not have enough spaces to hold all the people who regularly attend their evening classes and the lines aren't even clear, so sometimes one car is taking up what could be two spots. Because of this I took a long break from Ra, but today the heavens opened and I suddenly had the ability to take a longer lunch break than normal, so I booked a class. Cory doesn't typically teach the 11:00 Hot Ra on Wednesdays but today he did and I feel so honored to have been a student in his class. He provided precise cues, plenty of modifications and carved out specific instruction just to focus on breath. I really feel like I got so much more out of the class other than a workout. I really hope to attend more sessions with him. read more

I LOVE any of Laurie's classes here! She is one of the best yoga/fitness instructors I have taken and the reason why I keep coming back :) This studio is located near a very busy intersection, parking is difficult and classes get really crowded - think your mat is right next to another person's mat and limbs are everywhere. If you can get past that, then this is the place for you for quality fitness and great amenities. I have taken: Yogalates, Strength 1, and Strength 2 at this location. You do not need to have taken yoga before to take these classes! If you do not feel comfortable, just look up the few basic yoga moves, come in, and you got it! Come early. All the instructors have different focuses and different strengths, just have to fine the ones you love the best. Also, I drink A LOT of water beforehand and during. There is a water fountain, but it is a little slow.. so bring your own just in case. Also bring a TOWEL. The sweat amount of sweat is wild. There are 4 showers here and mornings can get a little hectic, but everyone is so nice and fast with showers you can be in and out in a jiffy. Highly recommend! read more

I have been going here for years and absolutely love it. I live closer to the Newport one but this is the OG location and it is bigger so I usually go to the CM one. Honestly covid has made it logistically easier because there's always parking now and I don't have to get to class 30 min early to get a spot. I go to CorePower when I'm traveling for business and it's fairly similar style-wise but better. I tend to take Yogalates and Strength classes and my favorite instructors are Raquel, Chelsey, Laurie and Tanesha. Definitely recommend coming here if you're looking for a new studio! read more

Great classes - no space. It's like a sardine can in there - very uncomfortable when flowing with so many people. Stretching and being right behind someone's butt crack or feeling their sweat splash on you. A literal Petri dish and I never see them disinfect floors between each class or the props (yoga lates props and weights are touched and put right back). A great way to build your immune system I guess lol. The only tolerable class with space is the Yin Restore. If you're okay with all this, highly recommend Ra Strength and Vinyasa Level 2 for more experienced yogis. read more

RA Yoga is a community, and has become a part of my life! The Fantastic front desk staff is always so helpful with anything you may need...especially Matt, the Costa Mesa manager. You'll find a wide variety of instructors to guide you through your practice. They're moving to an online reservation system, which should help secure your spot in those popular classes. Thoughtful touches include complete locker rooms (with Deodorant, thanks!) it's a rare, hard to find local business that really cares and delivers a first class experience. Ra Yoga - Friday night flow! - Yoga Near Me - Costa Mesa, California

I'd give more stars if possible. I tried yoga (that wasn't Bikram) for the first time ever two weeks ago. I attended a free yoga class for healthcare workers led by Mari. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by Miriam with a warm and friendly demeanor. She showed me around the studio and the yoga room. When I walked into the room, I noticed the room was saged and the instructor greeted me. I emphasize on saging, because it's a natural antimicrobial. I also saw Miriam disinfect the floors, while Mari prepped the room. I felt soooooo relaxed. The only "bad part" was that it was a bit too hot, since the class prior to ours was a hot yoga class. BUT, THE PLACE DOES NOT SMELL LIKE A GYM OR HOW BIKRAM YOGA STUDIOS SMELL!!!!! During my first class, Mari was amazing. She offered supports for everyone who needed them. She made jokes to liven up the energy. I came back for a second class with the same instructor. This time I brought 3 friends from work! The front desk staff was there with a smile and, despite the line to sign in, she was kind and friendly with everyone. The class was beyond amazing. Mari really thought out everything, and ensured that there was a purpose for every movement. The class flowed so well. The play list was amazing, the room was cooler (so much cooler) today. Mari offered options for different ways to do the postures or options to take breaks when we needed, and also just allowed us to lay there and unplug and feel loved and appreciated. She was lighthearted and checked in with everyone throughout the class. At the end she gave each person a small gift as a thank you from Ra. As a healthcare worker I have felt overworked, unappreciated, and overwhelmed; Ra Yoga and Mari helped me feel appreciated. I feel so comfortable at this studio. From the moment you enter to the moment you leave; you feel at peace. Thank you for introducing me to yoga in such a pleasant way. I know that these classes for healthcare worker only go till the end of February, but I wish they stayed forever. Truly disappointing... I have been a long time yoga lover and have taught for many years ... Going to yoga has always been my therapy. Yoga studios are usually a place of love and are usually very welcoming . I had a 10 pack of classes at Ra yoga. And have only used 7. Tried to book a class today because I truly needed it and noticed my credits weren't there anymore. So I called the Costa Mesa studio and talked to paul. Paul was very rude, condescending and truly not the nicest person. For someone working at a yoga studio, it is truly heartbreaking... I was hoping to catch a class to make me feel better today Instead, I hope I never see this person. Paul needs to actually take some yoga. As a yoga teacher, in the back of my mind I've always thought about what 'my' future studio is going to look like. Two steps in the door I felt that Ra Yoga was my dream come true! Welcoming lobby, deli case with plenty of post-class lunch/dinner options, a 'karma exchange' mailbox system to communicate with teachers, two large yoga rooms equipped with heat and smaller studios/office suites including a kids room, and a well-stocked locker room to boot? I know Ra Yoga is right by South Coast Plaza, but DAMN this place has it all! Through Classpass I had signed up for the lunch flow class - which at 45 minutes was the perfect pick-me-up in the middle of a hectic day of business. The teacher was knowledgable, friendly and helped students modify with ease. I got in a good workout - freshened up in the locker room and was back in business by 1 p.m. and out the door. WONDERFUL studio! If I lived in OC I'd be here every day. Next time I travel for business I'll definitely drop in for class! PS - Get a free week of classes with your Yelp check-in! :) read more

I got a Groupon voucher to try out this place before covid but was paused because due to the knockdown. Now that I am back to Ra Yoga, there are some pros and cons during covid: (1) super easy parking, pull right in no need to keep circling/waiting. (2) smaller classes, people's sweat no longer drip on me or my mat, but it's harder to sign up for classes. So far I've taken yogalates with Miranda, Yami and Rosanna. Miranda is definitely my favorite instructor but too bad she doesn't teach evening yogalates. I am so tempted to get their membership but I am afraid that parking and class size will be an issue once things are back to normal, so I am still debating. Other than that, Ra Yoga is awesome!! read more

I first heard of this place through a friend. Then it popped up again on Groupon. So I decided to try a week free. ..I've been a member for almost three months now and I never looked back! I love the options available all throughout the day. They cater to everyone. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The bathroom for the ladies is always clean. They offer little safes for personal belongings at no charge. Also have lockers for bigger personal items. Give it a try. I purchased a 10 class pack through Groupon for Ra Yoga a few months ago. I took a Ra Strength class and a Yin Rastore store back in March, and loved them both! The Ra Strength class was challenging since it incorporated weights in the yoga practice - definitely left me very sore the next day! The Yin RaStore class was the perfect end to a long week - it involved deep relaxation techniques that focused on holding stretches for extended periods of time and focusing on intentional breathing. Today is my birthday, and I wanted to use my day off to attend another yoga class. I went to book a class in the app, and unfortunately was not able to book a class since it said I had no classes left available. I had only used 2 of my 10 class pack, so I called the Costa Mesa location to see if I could book a class. A receptionist named Lexi answered the phone and was one of the most helpful and sweetest people I've had the pleasure of speaking to! She informed me that my Groupon class pack did expire in April, but she would be happy to add the additional 8 classes I had left to use back into my account. She went above and beyond to exceed my expectations and allow me to get the full use of my Groupon - even though I should've checked that my classes had expired! I will continue to attend Ra Yoga after my Groupon classes are used up due to her impeccable customer service! read more

Prior to coming here I had walked out of two yoga classes as I was very uncomfortable. The classes I took with Mari were the exact opposite experience. I loved every aspect - from the studio, the ambiance, and the flow of the class. The class is very inclusive for all levels, and you feel encouraged to try something that might be out of grasp. Mari is spectacular at what she does and I can't wait to have more classes with her. She's so good at explaining and moving around the classroom to support where necessary. ... TBH I'm not sure why my experience is soooo different from everyone else. My "yogi" friends LOVE it here. I.... just don't get it. I guess I find all of it a little too much-- the Camp and the entire attitude around the this area. I grew up in South Orange County and I'm used to this whole hippie thing so it's not out of line, but I just could never understand the appeal of the Target Buddha Statues and the Super Sustainable Succulents and the Reclaimed/Recycled Ecofriendly Wood Fixtures and the Totally Respectfully Appropriated Native American Dreamcatchers. The classes are fine; the ones I've been to are a little crowded for my taste. To be fair, I've only been to two- a hot yoga class and a free one. The free one was very crowded as expected, so that's fine. Studios are small though. I think the worst thing, honestly, is probably the smell. It just smells. My nose is almost always stuffed, but here even with my decidedly nonsensitive nose, I have trouble concentrating. They have showers! Hooray! Sadly they do not have mats in front of the sinks, so watch out. It's quite slippery in the women's restroom. Be careful. The instructors are generally nice, but not overly friendly. But again, everyone I know who actually loves and practices yoga constantly really, really like it here, so I assume I'm the one who just doesn't get it. Eh. I come here when my friends want to, but I really don't get the hype. read more

RA Yoga focuses a lot on the art of vinyasa. Vinyasa is a style of yoga that deals with stringing postures together so that you move from one pose to another in a flow while controlling your use of breath. For those of you looking to do more relaxation yoga, avoid the strength and a few yogalates classes - you will be sweating your butt off. Those classes are very tough and require a bit more physical activity. One thing that is cool is that each room/class is controlled temperature, hot or normal, so you may be drenched in your own sweat from the heat and from you moving so much. If you are at least familiar with the poses, you can take the level 2 classes - just take modifications on the poses and listen to what your body likes. The studio itself is really nice - very "costa mesa / new port" like. They have separate locker rooms for men and women with showers, lockers, etc. It's actually pretty clean! They have two studio rooms which are pretty roomy and can fit like 30 people in a room. After each class and before, they always wipe the floors of each room. The instructors and staff are really nice and welcoming - they tell you each class that practice is all about your flow and movement. The staff in front always greet you and take time to get to know you. There are times when I come in and they got me signed in already because they know me and I don't have to take out my bar code to enter. So far I've only tried yogalates, intro to vinyasa level 1 and 2, and strength yoga. They have a very organize system online showing all the times of the classes. Definitely use that for planning what class you want and which instructor and time. All the instructors are amazing but I highly recommend Tanesha, Amber, Raquel, and Madison. Each instructor is different in their own way and have their own style or approach to their class. Go to each one and find which instructor fits for you. RA Yoga is definitely a great workout for those new and seasoned to yoga. Their music selection is loud and very entertaining. It helps you get in the mood of moving your body, focusing on the right muscles. RA yoga is a no judgment zone. Just make sure you are having fun and working your body out the way you want to! Remember to include the soul and mind with yoga! P.S. Personally I would warn you about Tanesha because she will give you one crazy yogalates work out. Her class oh my god that class kicks everyone's butt and it will feel amazing!! Her class is usually full so come early. She is the reason why I go and keep coming back for more. read more

I love the classes I've attended at Ra. The staff, patrons and especially the instructors are friendly. It's a great little spot for hot yoga if you are new to hot yoga. I wished some classes were a little warmer but no complaints really. There's enough variety to the classes which keep me interested. I tried the class that was inspired by martial arts. That was probably the most interesting yoga class that I've been too and the choreography was a bit challenging for a nonyogi and nonmartial arts person. I'll stick to the traditional classes. I'd say the only downside to this studio is the parking. Very limited. read more

I used to come here all the time then had a succession of injuries and a major surgery. I finally psyched myself to go to class again only to encounter the WORST receptionist EVER. I get that there is a new system but to essentially send someone home to figure out their account before you even let them attend class is ridiculous. Their parking is bad, which is especially bad when you're new to the place. Their back lot was 90% reserved for other businesses and all of the non reserved spots were already taken. When I called to ask, I was told that there is overflow parking in the hotel parking lot two business centers down. I finally found this information on their website after the fact; it's hidden under their studio guidelines. This information should be more accessible so first timers aren't late to class. read more

Such a great place to practice yoga. The owners of RA are some of the nicest individuals I have met. They love their staff and invest in them. The front desk staff are great. Always greeting you with a smile and if you go often, they'll sign you into class before you even walk completely into the studio. Each instructor has their unique way of teaching. For vinyasa, this is great because you'll experience a new class each time with each instructor. Although this is their first location dating back to 2011, the space is beautiful and often getting renovated. Definitely come in and check out this studio. Parking is nice and easy in the back or at the crowne plaza hotel parking structure, which is almost the same short walk if I were to park in the back lot. They have a lock room with three showers as well. The class schedule is very diverse with a lot of times throughout the day. read more

When I think yoga I think RA Yoga, they're essentially synonymous. RA Yoga is all about community and bringing together like minded human beings. That's why they offer free classes Friday through Sunday. I joined their free community class last night and Kathy was teaching. It has been 9 months since my last class. Kathy was AMAZING and REFRESHING! I invited two friends to join and was concerned about their comfort level in a new environment. But Kathy knew how to unite everyone and took the time to correct their postures and movements. At the end during our final pose there was lavender essential oils amidst in the air which led to a relaxing and mindful experience. Thank you, Kathy, for being genuine and open to feedback! This is why I keep coming back to RA after 6-7 years. Their talent is top notch and phenomenal. Can't wait for your next class, whether it be during a forum or regular class! read more

Ra is a lovely yoga studio in a chill, inviting space. Their classes push you outside comfort zones while maintaining inclusivity. Sometimes it's hard to choose between the great classes on the daily schedule. The amenities are top-notch. Always clean and it's hard not to be tempted by their dangerously well-stocked retail shop. I could bang on, but at the end of the day, it's the people of Ra who are the real superstars. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I'm not a monthly member but Matt & co. have gone above and beyond more than once. In the small handful of times I've visited, they didn't have to. I would say if you're new to yoga and hoping to be turned on to it, DON'T start here! The last few years of my life were very hard as I lost my entire family one after the other during that time; I have worked hard to stay emotionally and spiritually strong and was hoping that a combination of therapy, meditation, and yoga might help me feel whole again, and I was excited when I first went into the costa mesa location to sign up. The over-the-counter staff are very young and friendly but not very knowledgeable about their company, enter information incorrectly in the computer, and rarely have answers to questions or a supervisor available when issues arise. In error, the company created two accounts for me, entered my membership plan and price inaccurately, and never entered my account into their website so I was not able to sign up for classes without paying even more. When I called to explain the issue I was told by the young counter person that she was seeing TWO memberships in the computer and to e-mail their membership department (I think SHE should have contacted them, not me) ... but I did as she said and got a very blunt response from someone named Rachel R. who worded her e-mail so as to blame me and told me to e-mail another department to fix the problem ... no apologies, no willingness to correct the situation, just more work for ME to do. I wrote back that she was rude rather than accommodating. I ended up on the phone with the owner who was very apologetic and refunded all my money and cancelled my membership(s). So just letting you all know: if you're new to yoga or looking for a new studio and hoping to be treated with friendliness and helpfulness, Ra Yoga in Costa Mesa is NOT the place! read more

Year 2 and its as good as ever! Just finished my usual lunch-time flow with Melissa C. Everyone seems to be holding to their NY res to work out as it was wall to wall yogis today! Melissa likes to change it up. So don't expect to do the usual sun A routine from her.. We were balancing on those foam yoga blocks and then twisting and then for extra points into warrior 3 pose.. Then for grins she has us balance the blocks on our feet as we lie on out mats.. Im not flexible, so just attempting to put my feet straight up is a feat in itself.. Thats where i just what i can and not take myself too seriously. - always a good way to break up the day and get your yoga in! read more

UUUUGHHHH. Crowded hot mess. 1) I was so upset after listening to the series on Bikram that I thought I'd try hot yoga without the brand. NO!! I was listening to about five different music genres in this hour long class. Who plays rock music during yoga?!! I felt like a heavy, dirty, wet blanket was thrown on my soul. Eww. 2) What in the world are we doing serious ab work for?! It's 110 degrees, our bodies are working to calm and regulate themselves. Weird. 3) Shocking how different these reviews are. I can't understand how the range is basically this place BLOWS or OMG LOVE! It's kinda odd to read multiple reviews with the same key words and tone (cute, Laurie, bite me, bla bla). Very disappointed by this place. I was a core power regular in Denver and I had heard great things about this place. So, I purchased a month membership to try it out. I found that parking was extremely difficult here and that I would end up circling several times or parking at businesses in the area in order to get a spot. Additionally, there is no limit to the number of students that can attend each class. I often found myself within a palms land of my fellow yogis. This doesn't work well in the hot sweaty classes. For certain classes, student show up 30 minutes earlier then if you happen to not get there in time, not only will you not find parking for your car, it will be impossible to get into the class. So, for a one hour class, you end up spending nearly 2 hours to be able to make the class. They have a good variety of classes, however their strength classes are not like what CorePower offers in terms of them being well integrated with flow sequences. I would describe them more as group cardio and weights fitness class rather than a yoga fusion weight classes. Needless to say, all of these things combined was a huge turn off. I won't be going back there! read more

I signed up for the free week of classes, attended 1 class, and didn't return. I took the yogalates class with my sister on a Saturday morning. The class was PACKED. We walked in right before the class started and the entire room was maxed out with people touching mat to mat throughout the entire room. We managed to squeeze in towards the back. It was both our first time taking yogalates, so we didn't really know what to expect. The class was heated, dark, and crowded. The instructor was in the front of the room just speaking the movements and we were so lost. We just followed along with the other people in the class, but was difficult because we could barely see the front and were so close to the people next to us. I was constantly checking my surroundings to make sure I had enough space, which took away from my workout a lot. Usually when I take classes you have to sign up and there's a max number of people in the class, but this one they just let anyone join even if there's barely any room. If there was more space and the instructor was more informative and attentive, then we would have been fine. But the experience for a first timer in the class and studio was really bad. read more

I have been going to the Spectrum location, which is new and not yet overcrowded. They don't have much of a variety of classes or times yet, so I thought I'd try the Costa Mesa location out. It's pretty bad on several levels. 1. Parking is a pain 2. The walls inside the practices rooms are disgusting. They are badly in need of refinishing, and I don't just mean a new coat of paint 3. The air vents look like they haven't been cleaned in years, which is really nauseating when you are on your back looking up at the ceiling 4. There are dead bugs in the ceiling light fixtures 5. The floors are incredibly dirty 6. The practice rooms smell I am regretting purchasing the multi-studio membership, as I will not be returning to Costa Mesa unless they renovate it. read more
