Everything is so well crafted that we were so satisfied from presentation to taste!! 1/ Food: 9/10 We ordered (in order): - Masala chai: one of the best chai black tea I have had! Our favorites are the traditional samosas and the Delhi butter chicken. The service is very fast and the staff are wonderful. Have had some disappointing indian food in Minneapolis, and just as I was about to give up, Raag came along. The menu doesn't offer all the basic dishes I typically see, which I usually take as a good sign, and I've yet to be wrong. I had my order delivered, and the food came well packaged with good portions. The garlic naan was not the most memorable but still enjoyable (not garlicky enough), but the truffle mushroom naan was different, fluffy, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. The chicken tikka lababdar was both similar to tikka masala and yet distinctly different at the same time, but definitely the closest to best tikka masala I've tried in the city. The nargisi kofta was a dish I've never heard of before but the picture from the menu looked too good to miss! I normally find scotch eggs to taste too heavy, but I liked how Raag's had distinct aromatics that cut the meaty/bready outside, and I could not get enough of the vetiver pulao. Was disappointed based on other reviews. I ordered the lamb stew with rice. For $28 I was expecting something fairly substantial and amazing. What I got was about 8 small cubes of lamb swimming in a giant bowl of tomato-based sauce with nothing else. They start the table off with bringing a beautiful glass container with dry ice and pour hot, spiced laden water over it for a steamy cool scent-sory delight! After ordering a few craft cocktails, seeing a lovely I rain couple order and consume the Jal Tarang- I decided it would be a MUST have! A cool long wooden tray with 5 shot glasses filled with 5 different spices juices (think savory with Indian spices) and topped with a crunchy puffed semolina ball stuffed with bits of stuff. If we hadn't been spying on our neighboring dinners, we probably wouldn't have known what to do with these gorgeous little puff ball topped things. YOU POR THE JUICE IN THE BOWL OF THE BALL AND POP IT IN YOUR MOUTH. (You're welcome :) For the main course my daughter choose the Tandoori chicken breast. It was stuffed with a nicely balanced concoction that was perfectly spicy (I'm a bit wimpy on hot spices but love flavor of spices). I opted for the Raag Nargisi Kofta. A lamb scotch egg surrounded by beautifully cooked, delicate delicious rice (and I'm not normally a rice fan) and a curry gravy like sauce. The sauce had great flavor- the scotch egg was a bit dry. We ended with sharing the Gulab Jamun Creme Brûlée'. While I love a good Creme brûlée, it also takes a lot to impress me with it. This one did not did not make my list of a good brûlée. It arrived really cold. The top was not crunchy. The texture was a bit like bread pudding. I wouldn't order it again. Well the atmosphere, and a few of the fun experiences were five star, the wait staff could definitely use much improvement. None of them smiled or seemed to friendly. Plus we waited a long time after our main meal was finished and I even ended up going to ask about a desert menu- and that was after someone that cleared our table had asked if we were done (which we had replied we were desiring desert). read more

I can't say enough about this restaurant! I haven't tasted these flavors/spice combinations since the last time I was in Southern India a few years ago! It's hard to find good Southern Indian food in Minnesota, so when my husband and I came here for date night I was in heaven. This place is progressive as their name states, but don't underestimate the authenticity. For appetizers we ordered the Jal Tarang and the Traditional Punjjabi Aloo Masala Samosa. When the Jal Tarang came out, it wasn't quite what I was expecting. The concoctions were served in a shot class with puffed pooris with a hole on top. You're supposed to poor the liquid inside the ball and stuff it in your mouth! I honestly didn't love it because the liquid was watery...like a shot! It was odd to me that it was not a thicker consistency. My husband on the other hand absolutely loved it! The concoctions were very flavorful and the spices were amazing! The Aloo Masala samosa was amazing. Highly recommend getting this as an appetizer. My husband ordered the Raag Nargisi Kofta - Indian spiced lamb scotch egg, Awadhi gold gravy & vetiver pulao. I really liked this dish! The scotch egg as perfectly cooked with a golden, crispy outside! The sauce and rice on were the perfect side dishes to go with this meal. I ordered the Chicken Chettinad - Chennai style Malabar pepper and chicken stew with select spices, finished with coconut cream. This dish had such authentic Southern Indian spices. I told my husband I haven't tasted food like this since I was in India. HIGHLY recommend getting this dish. It has the perfect amount of heat as well! We ordered the garlic naan and the Wild Mushroom & Truffle Naan to go with our meal. If I had to do it all over again I would have just ordered the butter naan. I love just the traditional naan with my curries. For dessert we ordered the Puran Poli Boreks served with matcha ice cream and sour cherries. I don't know if it is, but the ice cream tasted home made. Also, there was only 1 cherry, but it was amazing...tasted like a homemade maraschino cherry. I didn't love this dish. It was a bit dry for my liking. The service was amazing at this restaurant. Our server was very attentive and did an amazing job. The manager of the restaurant was also extremely friendly and came in to check in on us multiple times throughout our meal. This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Minnesota. She still took to time to describe menu items to us. You can tell this place is family run because they had everyone checking on us and refilling water. It was so great to see and well appreciated. The food! I've never seen such beautiful Indian food plates! So many colors! Each item had so much flavor! Nothing was overpowering and nothing was too salty! Drinks. The mister had old fashioned, which was good enough to have another. I had the blue caracao drink that was so pretty and tasty! Apps. Lamb chops and crab cakes for apps. Smokey presentation and curry marinated chops were good but nothing compared to the crab cakes in a filo dough style crust, the sauce underneath was where the action was! Main course. Mushroom curry, lamb scotch eggs and garlic naan. Both entrees came with lots of basmati rice. Mushrooms had the perfect texture with a LOT of extra sauce for the naan. The lamb scotch egg had all the great parts of a scotch egg with lots of spice and flavor in the crust and a separate curry sauce. Dessert. We didn't have time for the dessert I wanted, it was a 20 min wait. So for sure have to try that next time. We had the creme brûlée that had all the great parts of a creme brûlée but with light Indian flare. There's so much more I have to try on this extensive menu. First time here celebrating mom's night out with a great friend and Christmas Eve. The place is modern for an Indian restaurant as it is very westernized in the setup with done traditional decor. The painting on the main wall facing opposite the bar is amazing! The service is very attentive in that the table space is at a premium because if you plan to share all dishes ordered there wouldn't be enough room in the table even if it's just a party of two. The staff could gently asked if they could take away some of the plates that are empty instead of asking if we are still working on it when there's nothing else on the plate to eats. It nice that the manager came by to ask how was the food so far and such. The food was great except for the lamb samosas. I didn't care for it very much so I had a lot of the dipping sauce on it to masked the lamb taste because there wasn't anything else besides ground lamb and I guess I'm not big on strong lamb taste. I prefer goat meat to lamb meat now when it comes Indian cuisine. Otherwise, the rest of our order were tasty and flavorful with a mild spice level in the chicken curry dish we had. We had an ordered of the traditional Indian bread basket with a trio selections of garlic naan, multigrain naan bread and parmesan cheese naan. We didn't know that the curry dish came with basmati rice but it was good. The curry was good with both the naan and rice. The shrimp skewers were tasty and not too overpowering with spices. I wish there were more seafood options available besides two shrimp dishes and a salmon dish. The dessert was a little perplexed since I can't remember what all came with it besides the poached pear. It was good with a little savory and sweet so not too overwhelmingly sweet! The masala chai was good. Not too strong of spices and you add your own sugar for how sweet you want it. Overall, a good first time experience and I feel it would be a good date night place. I thought it was good that they have a feedback sheet for you to fill out but I wasn't sure if we had to compete the form or not. My friend wanted me to fill it out so I did it on the spot. We love authentic Indian food, my boyfriend is from South India and we like to explore and find food that reminds him of home. Unfortunately this was not it. We did not make reservations ( not required) and host said tables were very limited. Yet when arriving and leaving, the restaurant was 80% empty. Food and drinks...not very authentic. I had a margarita and my boyfriend had an old fashion. It was disappointing, too sweet with syrup and spices and barely any alcohol. The dips and chutney were great. For main course, we ordered fig kofta and truffle naan. The kofta was fantastic. The naan definitely lacked the taste and flavor of the truffle oil. Nevertheless , it was perfectly cooked, buttery and soft. We ordered dragonfruit rasmalai. We really liked it, the dragonfruit complemented the taste and texture of the rasmalai really well. I have a mixed view of this restaurant after visiting twice. I have to say that i find the decor to be a bit odd, almost like eating in a modern hotel restaurant with music I did not enjoy. Nice but a little sterile and soulless. But we had fantastic service at the bar and food came out hot and quick. Drinks are priced well and parking is easy in this part of town. I also really liked the appetizers we got: chips/cracker basket, samosas, charcoal chicken. Actually all of the food was high quality, flavorful, and not greasy or unhealthy feeling. The downside is that the entrees are TINY. We got a seafood entree that had maybe 4 pieces of seafood (think clams, scallops) for about $32 in a big bowl of sauce. The butter chicken was a "sharing main" but it was about half the size of butter chicken at our normal Indian place. The thing that bothered me was the tiny protein portions came with a ton of amazing sauce that mostly went to waste (there was only so much I wanted to eat with rice or bread). I wish they would add some veggies to bulk out these dishes a bit. Even if the meat portion didn't change, I would have loved cauliflower or zucchini or something to make it feel like an entree. For 2 people we got 2 apps, 2 entrees, and dessert and we were just at the comfortably full point. Overall this would be a fun place to go in a group of 4-6 and eat tapas style, trying different foods. read more

My Fiancé has struggled to find really good, inventive and flavorful Indian food in a great atmosphere since we moved from NYC two years ago. We came here and he was instantly excited. We have been for dinner and brunch numerous times. We are obsessed with the Pani Pooris (especially during the Holi Brunch, we were embarrassed how often we went back to the line!), Koftas, Kashmiri Rogan Josh, Delhi Butter Chicken and more..it's all just so good!
