I stopped at raceway diner a couple of weeks ago while visiting family in Yonkers, big mistake. They only get one star because the door was open. I ordered breakfast to go in the evening.....the only thing that was made fresh was the eggs. Microwaved sausage, old reheated fries and stale toast, threw it all in the garbage. The owner of this place should be embarrassed by the food that is served. Unless you are drunk and stumbling out of the casino, avoid this place. read more

Arrived at diner late night to have a coffee and cake. As advertised the baking is done on premise. So was looking forward. Entered diner and saw a group of employees at front desk. Waited. Then someone shouted out just sit anywhere. So I decided to walk left and sit at a booth. And I sat and waited. Was about 10 minutes when a waiter asked if we were being helped. We placed our order. I got the carrot cake and she got the almond cream cake. Her cake tasted like perfume. My cake was not moist. So mediocre deserts and poor service. When we left the hostess chased after us. And asked if we lost a cel phone which he was holding. We said no. Guess he felt guilty for the crappy service his establishment provided. read more

It was good seated as promptly as possible, friendly, fast, i ordered eggs Benedict...it was delicious, however one of my English muffins was slightly burnt over powering the delicious taste. I love the Raceway Diner too. I live in Riverdale the Bronx, so its a quick drive over there. There are alot of Diners near us, but what I like about Raceway is it still has that old Diner feel and service. Too many Diners today have changed ownership and hire new staff that are lazy and don't care about serving the customers (see Riverdale Diner on 238th st, and Broadway Diner in Yonkers) You sit there for 15 minutes at those places before someone comes to your table, and this is when they are not busy! Raceway the service is attentive and the food is above the regular diner fare. Lastly, their pastries are out of this world. Try the Napoleaon, Sinful. read more

I order the steak ad eggs and a milkshake everywhere I go for brunch. I ate there this morning with friends and the steak was great quality and prepared really well, very tasty. There were people in and out of there like it was Cheers, greeting the staff, even police officers came in (and paid), so the food must be good. I can attest for my steak and eggs and it was better than brunch I have had in restaurants all over Manhattan. The milkshake topped it off... you get tired of ordering the same thing every weekend and sometimes I try something new but today I am glad I ordered my staple at the Raceway Diner. The last star is because they smiled ad said "Thank You" as we left, although the place was busy. Good Job Guys, I'll see you again soon! Great menu selection, fast and friendly service, never had a bad meal. After a few visits the waitresses seem to know you (and not that I get the same one every time). Very generous with the coffee refills. No complaints at all. Not a bad seat in the house. read more

My husband and I felt a bit uneasy coming in but decided to give this diner a try anyway. Didn't feel very "welcoming" the food was was not great at all. Ridiculously over priced as well. What baffles me was that the owner (I know he was the owner because I asked our waitress) came around to every single table in the section we were seated asking if everything and everyone was ok and even proceeded to joke and make small talk with customers which is great but never once came to us. Maybe they were regulars or maybe it was the fact that they were all white......... I guess My Latina self and my African American husband's skin were a couple of shades a tad too dark.... I also noticed how one of these "privileged" Customers demanded coffee by yelling "more coffee" twice before the waiter came. No please no thank you. Just rude! Best burgers around, food is fresh, the staff is on point. As per diner norm, anything you want you get. Like as if it's your own kitchen but you don't have to cook. My only improvement would be the drinks. Sodas can be a bit flat and small. read more

We have frequent this diner for quite a few years; had a surprised yesterday. (When the servers know what you will be eating without a menu, that alone speaks for itself). The server took our order and never returned with the food until 40 minutes after when it was cold, dry and tasteless (the food was sitting on the kitchen counter all that time). And not only after another server brought it to her attention that two plates are waiting for her in the kitchen. Wow ... incompetent, incompetent!!!! Meanwhile, 3 big families came in and greedy for big tips she just completely ignored us and went ahead to take the orders for the big tables. The owner was less than remorseful and more defensive of her as she told him we didn't like the food and not the service from her. She didn't get a tip, and it will probably be a very looooooooong time if we ever will go there again. Sorry Raceway Diner, but you disappointed a customer for years. read more

Getting tired of overpriced crappy food. Went in and bought 2 Hamburger deluxe meals to go, and 2 milkshakes...28 dollars and change... are you ef-ing kidding me. I come here weekly and like the food, wait staff and atmosphere. What's disappointing and unfortunately the first thing you see when you come in is the miserable hostess (weekdays) she barely smiles and I have seen her roll her eyes when a customer requests something that they are entitled to. Stopped in for dinner after being at the Racetrack. Disappointing at best. The "chicken" soup had no chicken it but full of pasta shells, the green beans were mushy and tasteless, the "cesar salad" had a bottled dressing that was just poored on top. The Server, a young thin man with a beard, obviously new and obviously not trained was ignorant of the menu and what comes with your entree, at the end of the meal he held out his hand, he was standing right next to me, for me to hand him my plate, seriously? We are matured age people and he draws a smiley face with the whip cream on my husband's chocolate ice cream, come on already! My liver was tender but the onion slices were way too thick. My husband said his crabmeat stuffed flounder was good. What is with places today that they serve such inferior quality food with stupid servers and think that's perfectly fine. read more

okay, so ive been to this diner enough times to write a fair review. Its only a hop, skip, and jump away from my house; its aesthetically pleasing and overall clean. The food, however, is nothing to rave about. I wouldve said it's average diner food, but last night's order of shrimp scampi was sooooo horrid that it erased all my memories of any "average" tasting food i have ever consumed at raceway diner. It was BLAND, and tasted like flour...raw flour; there was no scampi flavor ( that i so craved being 8 months pregnant). And the spaghetti that came with it was topped with the same unsalted, unseasoned, floury sauce that the shrimp was in. There was absolutely no marrying of the shrimp and the sauce. It tasted like frozen shrimp, thawed and thrown into the flour...stir, stir, stir, and serve. Took the food back, and demanded our money back, although they agreed it was awful tasting im still VERY DISAPPOINTED in them. Will not be ordering from them again. read more

Way back in the day, this place used to have awesome food (for a diner).. Not sure what has happened in the past 10 years, but i now find the food there to almost be inedible. The gravy is orange and burns your throat, all the portions got cut in half, etc.. The last and final time i ordered from there, i ordered and eggwhite omelette and when i got home there was just a pile of white soupy substance that resembled a liquified pool of snot... I went back immediately , and they brought it back, and came out with it again, and it was the same way again! 3 times the charm? Not really.. I saw it for the 3rd time, almost the same way, and the manager apologized and said "sorry we have a new cook this week". They hire a cook that doesn't already know how to make eggwhites? The only thing good I can say about this place is that the staff is friendly. We ordered mozzarella sticks that the first time they came out were still cold. We sent those back. Also ordered a bacon grilled cheese and a hamburger with pastrami on it. Worst grilled cheese EVER! The bacon was like card board, took that off which was real easy considering the cheese was cold! I mean how do you screw up a grilled cheese? Next was the hamburger with pastrami... except they didn't put a hamburger on the bun. And apparently they get a lot of complaints about the late night guy in the kitchen, I guess they figure it's mostly people drinking so why make quality food? Gross just gross! Thankfully the manager let us leave without having to pay for the food we didn't eat. read more

not sure exactly when the chicken was cooked but it was no where near recently cooked, was cooked days ago and just heated up and barbque sauce dumped on it. wasn't even warmed up completely should have kn itown better than to take my mom there for dinner on her visit to see me in yonkers. The Central Raceway Diner is on Yonkers Avenue across from Empire City Casino & Yonkers Raceway. One day a couple of years ago I went there and had the eggplant dinner, which reminded me of the store bought frozen eggplant dinners I occasionally had as a child. They have a wide variety of pastries. The staff is attentive and professional. One of the two owners are usually at the entrance checkout counter to greet customers. The diner is large with plenty of seating to accommodate parties of most sizes. read more

This diner has been around for over 30 years and it still has the best breakfast at the best price! My favorite is the Challah bread french toast, always cooked to perfection...NEVER soggy like most other diners make it. And the Challah bread is baked fresh in-house as are all their danishes, muffins, cakes etc. I do wish they had warm maple syrup to go with it though, but the syrup packets do just fine especially since the price is right :) My husband absolutely loves the steak and eggs since they don't skimp on the quality. The steaks are TOP quality and well worth it. With such great food, there's no wonder why there's a line out the door on weekends! Always a friendly environment...keep up the good work! read more

I should have listened to the other reviews before going!!! The meat was so fatty you couldn't find any meat on the lamb chops. When I complained the waitress sad the chef said the fat added flavor to the meat.The manager said there was nothing wrong and rudely ignored my request for a change of food. I only put 1 star cause I can't put anything less. If I could I would've. I will never ever understand how this establishment got voted "best diner". EVERYTHING was wrong with this place. The hostess was not very welcoming. While ordering our food, the waitress didn't even ask if we wanted wheat or white toast. Upon the arrival of our food which was a simple order of pancakes/eggs and bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, and eggs, we noticed the bacon and sausage was hard and dry as if it was from the day before. The pancakes were thin and the hasbrowns were terrible. The only halfway decent part of the meal was the OJ , water, eggs. The waitress never checked on us, and the only time she did return, was with the check rudely slamming it on the table! She didn't even bother to ask if we wanted or needed anything else prior to printing out the check. And to our amazement, everything totaled $30!! Are you kidding me? For that simple meal. Worst service and food I've ever had. We were completely disgusted with EVERYTHING. Rest assure they will NEVER get my business again. NEVER. read more

ive been coming here my entire life and in the last year or 2 its gotten pretty bad but the last few times and especially this one in particular have really taken the cake... in short ... the food sucks the service is a joke ... laziest waitresses ever... dirty plates left on the table and drinks never refilled ... nothing u ever request is given to you upon first ask... mostly because they are watching some show on the tv or visibly texting and facebooking while your trying to get there attention... all in front of the owner mind you... i know your probably thinking "why go back than a$$hole" and youd be right i am an a$$hole for going back but i work nights and its close to my house and open 24hrs plus the argonaut is the same only more expensive and the clairmont aka the roach motel got so bad they stopped being 24hrs .. so its the lesser of 3 evils i suppose and i guess they know that because their effort to be even marginally better is minimal at best read more
