    Chiliquiles Rojo
    Rich M.

"Panchos and Gringos" has been on my "to-do" list in San Antonio for quite a while and I'm now sorry that I have waited so long to try it. This is a truly special addition to the San Antonio food scene. A breakfast place that knows how both american and mexican breakfast is supposed to be done. It is a rare day when the owner spends time to fully explain the menu and honestly chat with patrons. There is a passion and love of food happening here that is clearly apparent from his attitude toward customers and the product that comes from his small kitchen. This love affair is profound and genuine. I tried rojo chiliquiles and my companion tried verde chiliquiles. My gripe with so many mexican restaurants is their lack of care when ingredients are misaligned, presentation is haphazard, and tastes are boring. None of those gripes are associated with this restaurant. Take a chance. Go east of downtown. Try Panchos and Gringos. You won't be disappointed.

We visited Pancho's and Gringos on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The drink options are in a self serve area but the owner was so helpful he helped mix the perfect iced coffee for us to start. I chose breakfast tacos a la carts and the portions were so generous I am glad I did! The generous amounts of egg and meat on large tortillas was so filling and delicious. This place is a bit off the beaten path but a must try for a homemade breakfast if you happen to be in the area.

This place is such a gem. There's parking in the back, it's a cute old building. Inside you will find Sergio the owner working hard and being busy in a Sunday morning but still makes time say hello to everybody and connect with everybody . We ordered the chilaquiles with barbacoa and it's was soooood good. The flavor, the portion, quality are so good. If you want drinks it is self self and it feels like you're at home. Tip them well and thank you Sergio for the hospitality.

Probably one of the most welcoming local spots I've been too! Such an easy going vibe no music was able to enjoy the conversation with my wife! The winning dish was the menudo they serve it with 2 enchilada verdes and it sounded off but it was honestly an amazing combination! Come try it!!! (Also have pancakes for kids!)

At first glance it's a small place but the food is very big in taste. The owner, Sergio, greeted us very warmly and we had a very conversational. If you are in the mood for real, authentic Mexican breakfast for a very good price please check this out. We had 4 breakfast tacos and a plate of huevos rancheros with two coffees for $28.90

The go to breakfast & brunch spot ! Everything on the menu is carefully cooked and made with love! Service is always welcoming & joyful. An aesthetic here is that they have different types of coffee mugs that make you feel like you're home away from home. Highly recommend this spot if you're from SA or just passing through. 10/10

This is THAT place!!! Lots of spots here in San Antonio that are overpriced or wasn't "worth" the price. This spot here??? Phenomenal!!!! One of those neighborhood places that is a definite keeper. You hope never goes away. We were greeted warmly by Carlos and the "other guy" lol. The food was wonderful. Freshly made. Everything was spot on! If Carlos tells you it's spicy, LISTEN!!!!! lolol....and then they made a certain area that was setup for self-service coffee with your favorite creamers and milk!!!!. Wooooow. Take a look at the pics.......simply wonderful....

I love this spot. The service is always welcoming and the staff is friendly. What the restaurant lacks in ambiance it makes up for it with the food!!!! I've visited this restaurant a few times and have tried different dishes , all are delicious ! My father joined me for breakfast ; he is the pickiest person I know . He absolutely loved the food here and complimented the chef . ( I almost fell over!) I had the huevos a la mexicana w/ a side of bacon . It was perfect . Sergio gave us complimentary (Greek) soup to try and it was delicious . If you are in the area you need to try this spot ! Ask your server about the soups! They have four to choose from! Happy eating!!

It is a cozy mom and pops diner, the drinks are all self served and the owner is the one receiving the meal orders. I ordered the steak and egg sandwich and I have to say it was really, really good. My kid's dad ordered their pork chop plate that came recommended by the owner, it wasn't the best, it lacked seasoning and flavor. I do have to say, the owner was very receptive of the feedback and proceeded to give us a complimentary piece of cheesecakes which was indeed delicious. We will most likely be back and support this family owned restaurant.

Vintage style restaurant with down home atmosphere. Food was outstanding. Service was great and after you order you help yourself. Need a soda? Go get one out of the refrigerator. That's cool. Love this place but unfortunately we don't live in San Antonio anymore. Otherwise it would be my favorite breakfast restaurant.

They don't miss point blank period. My absolute favorite spot when my other half and I can't agree on American style breakfast or taqueria vibes. They've got all the classics enjoy a top notch stack of pancakes or the best chilaquiles you've ever had or even my personal favorite the happy waitress a grilled cheese with tomato sporting a perfectly fried egg in the AM! They often have rotating/seasonal offerings and specials. Not to mention they are a corner stone of this community! Please bring your patience during peak hours their staff is working hard to get us all our favs!

Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing, which is why I'm giving 3 stars. I ordered the veal Schnitzel with mushroom gravy (Jägerschnitzel) and red cabbage. The gravy had a strange gelatin-like consistency and lacked the rich flavor you'd expect from a proper Jäger sauce. The veal was extremely chewy and honestly made me feel ill afterward. The red cabbage was also very undercooked and completely lacked flavor. Overall, I personally did not find the food authentic or representative of true German cooking. What truly saved this experience was the outstanding customer service. Our server, Joseph, was attentive, professional, and genuinely kind throughout the meal. I also greatly appreciated Mr. Adam, the kitchen manager, who personally came out to discuss my concerns. He handled the constructive criticism with professionalism and openness, and I truly respected the fact that he listened carefully and considered my feedback regarding the sauce. Although I wouldn't personally return for the food, Joseph and Mr. Adam turned what could have been a terrible experience into one where I still felt valued as a customer. Their professionalism absolutely deserves recognition.

However, when we opened the windows, a blast of cigarette smoke wafted into the room because it is directly above their designated smoking area. We asked the front desk for help, and they said not to worry, hardly anyone smokes in that area. Meanwhile we watched several people out there smoking almost constantly. They offered no other accommodation or help. Not worth it. Very uncomfortable and upset because this will ruin our vacation. Edit: 1 to 3 stars.
