I thought I knew ravioli, but Raffetto's large round spinach ravioli blows all others out of the water. It's so savory and delicious that it doesn't even need any sauce--I ended up eating mine plain (I know, I'm a barbarian). This place is a gem with its homemade pastas, sauces, sausages, and cheeses and has been around for over 100 years! I absolutely treasure Raffetto's -- amazing fresh pasta cut to order. There are so many flavors: spinach, squid ink, mushroom, lemon red pepper, just to name a few. The fresh pasta starts at $3.25 per pound. The cooking times for the various types of pasta are clearly posted, and the staff will gladly answer your questions about what sauces pair with the pasta flavors that you have selected. Also, if you tell them how many people are coming for dinner, they will tell you how much fresh pasta to order. The prices on cheeses and sausages are excellent. Although the store is small, you can usually find the Italian ingredients that you need, such as 00 flour, olive oil and Arborio rice. Raffetto's also sells several house-brand sauces, ravioli and prepared food. The staff is as nice as can be. Cash only, closed Mondays. While not following my better judgement I visited here today. I came because yes they have fresh products and the prices are reasonable. Then while there I remembered why I told myself never to go back there again. I am a person of color and they make sure you are aware of this by their attitudes and customer service. The little guy at the cash register is as probably as old as my granddaughter, and is rude as hell. The (2) woman there are no better. I worked as a public servant for the City of New York for 26yrs so I have seen my share of rude and disrespectful people. But when you are patronizing a place while many other shops are closing because of the pandemic you would expect a level of appreciation but not here. I am an essential worker and have been helping people of this city since this pandemic started in 2019. I am angry but more so hurt by the actions of the staff. Raffetto's is my favorite new place in the neighborhood. Can't believe it took me this long to "discover it" -- I always assumed it was one of those mythical hundred-year-old places in the Village that are more of a relic of its former mom-and-pop glory. Lo and hebold, Raffetto's is about as humble and straight-forward as they come--totally al dente. On my very first visit, I grabbed a loaf of whole wheat Italiab bread ($2!), a hunk of drunken goat cheese ($6!) and a generous cut of homemade meat lasagne ($7!) that we broke into 2 meals. Fantastic values abound--don't question it, just pile on your pastas, cheeses, sausage, ravioli, and every other Italian foodstuff your little heart might desire. The charming lady behind the counter, who could easily have come from almost any decade from the past 150 years, completed this total winner of a neighborhood Italian grocery. As I always tell the lovely ladies who are there, there are very few places in New York City that NEVER rip me off. Raffetto's is one of those places. I may be this historical institution's most ardent promoter. One friend of mine who I took last week told me they should charge admission just to be able to appreciate the spellbinding aroma of the roasted garlic and other ingredients that permeate the tomato sauce. And I'm not alone, because it would probably have been hard for them to stay in business for over a hundred years if a guy born in the 80s was their only customer.* What should you get? A pound of tortelloni or torellini (I got the mushroom and meat flavor). A pound of house-made pasta(I chose the squid linguine) a box of handcrafted ravioli(tomato based lobster ravioli) Pretty good deal for only 15 dollars!! Thanks GROUPON!! which is why I make you my 2nd favorite website compare to YELP. :P The lady in the shop was really friendly. She took her time and explain to me what's good and how should I mix and match the pasta. I even called before I cooked the pasta to ask for opinion.. I made the lobster ravioli toddy and it was EXTREMELY AWESOME!!! I know I have to give the credit to Raffetto.. What I did was just boiling the ravioli to make it cooked.. and I took her advice by using butter and scallion as the sauce. I added the white clam sauce too.. and some seafood to give it a twist!! I LOVE IT!!! They have variety flavors of house-made pasta. -plain -whole wheat -chestnut -squid -rosemary -CHOCOLATE!!!!! (for dessert) You choose and they will chop it for you with the machine (is pretty fun to watch), depends on what kind of pasta you want. Best all around ravioli store I've found so far in NYC. Located in what used to be Italian Greenwich Village, Rafetto's is the authentic target. Walking in, the place hasn't been updated too much over the last century; they even still have their old school pasta cutting machine, which they actually use. The staff are either family or have been around forever, and they're the among best I've found in any Italian shop anywhere. Always very friendly and helpful. And of course, beyond the service and atmosphere, the food is consistently great. Homemade ravioli options are large and varied, although you have to stake them out a bit to get one of the more unique combos fresh (like truffle). My favorites are the seafood (shrimp, crayfish, scallops, crab), the pesto, the chicken and smoked mozzarella, and the classic cheese and spinach. Those give you serious options for pairing with sauces, and the staff is happy to make some great suggestions if you need guidance. In general I've gotten the medium sized ravioli, which seem to be the perfect size. I haven't tried their fresh pasta, but given what I've seen with the ravioli, it has to be great. They also sell their sauces and a variety of Italian goods in the store as well; in particular, their vodka sauce and rice pudding are killer. In general, whatever you buy here, it's doubtful you'll be disappointed. Don't be like me, living nearby and just walking past for years. So much time wasted buying mediocre ravioli. Come here and get the best. Oh, did I mention that their prices are cheap? It's like $6 for a box of 48 on average , which is good for 3-4 meals. Do the math. I recently visited Raffetto's for the first time with my husband. We arrived about 15 minutes before closing and rushed to choose what we wanted, but the staff was so friendly and helpful that it wasn't a problem whatsoever. We instantly decided that we wanted some frozen ravioli from the freezer. We chose lobster ravioli and goat cheese ravioli. Next time, I plan to pick up pumpkin as well as cheese with spinach. Then, my husband ordered black squid ink pasta. We didn't know what cut to choose and a really nice woman behind the counter overheard us and told us that that type of pasta would be best as a tagliatelle or a fettuccine. Any thicker, and it would be difficult to handle. Then she asked if it was just for the two of us, which it was. She suggested about 3/4 of a lb. for the both of us. Done! Tagliatelle black squid ink pasta it is! As she put in our fresh pasta order, my husband perused the open fridge and looked at the pasta sauces and chose one for our lobster ravioli. He picked up a pink pasta sauce and threw in a small package of meat tortellini for good measure. I had an expired Groupon, which they accepted without any problems. In fact, hardly any explanation was needed. The place is small but very home-y and easy to navigate. There's a lot of food products up along the walls, shelves, and in the fridges, which can seem overwhelming but they're super organized and the staff knows where everything is. When explaining the cuts of pasta, they had a card behind the counter with a picture that easily explained what they could offer us. We were never made to feel dumb for not knowing that fettuccine is narrower than tagliatelle, and I really appreciated that. They made our shopping experience really easy and relaxed and were very friendly to us despite it being just a few minutes from closing. Most other people at other places would be pushing us out the door at that time. But since they're so efficient and good at their jobs, we were out with probably 5 minutes to spare skipping along with our bags of Italian treats! read more

I used to walk by this place all the time on my way to tenoverten (a few doors down) and never really noticed it to think to stop in. It wasn't until I saw the name mentioned in another review as a place to get great gnocchi, that I figured I had to stop by. I actually made a special trip here and got a few things to make it worth my while. The gnocchi was fine (but nowhere as phenomenal or varied as the specialty place I prefer), but the true stars were the sage butter and jumbo raviolis I tried in mushroom and pumpkin. Outstanding....and I got the frozen raviolis! Will definitely be back for more of those....and likely try a few other flavors. Of course the prices are great as everyone has mentioned. read more

I tried green tortellini and basil pesto sauce that I bought the other day. It was easy and yum yum yum! The tortellini bag is enough for two and 1/4 container pesto sauce was enough to coat all tortellini. I didn't need anything. It only took about 9 minutes and came out delicious! Like many others have said, this place is amazing! I got their lobster ravioli and clam sauce, I think it would be good enough to just put the ravioli in the sauce but I put mushroom and heavy cream in the clam sauce to make it richer, it went with the ravioli very well! Whenever I found out that they had Pumpkin Ravioli's I knew I needed to make a visit! The first time I went they were closed. But I finally made it over the weekend while my parents were in town visiting. It's a rather small shop but don't let that put you off. Once you walk in it's like the lights are shining down from heaven on all of their delicious homemade goods. They have a cooler case filled with sauces, pestos ... I mean you name it they have it. Two things that caught my eye that I will be going back for, is the walnut cream sauce and the mushroom pesto. Now let's get on to what I think was the most important part. The pasta. As I said the shop might look small and that's because they've got an enormous section in the back of staff making homemade pasta. And not just any pasta, they have all different flavors of pasta and they will make it for you right then and there. They also had numerous types of dry pasta that you are able to choose from. But the item that caught my eye the most was the ravioli's. They have homemade PUMPKIN ravs!! Ah!! They also had spinach, sun dried tomato and goat cheese ... I mean the list goes on. And I'm sure if there was something you wanted and you didn't see it there they quite possibly would do it up for you. They even had a sample out of this black pasta in a warm marinara sauce ... you could taste the freshness!! Now Eataly is cool in all, but Raffeto's is a world of its own. I love their fresh pasta! They can even cut it to your preferred width! Warning: pasta must be cooked within 2-3 days otherwise it will go bad. There are no preservatives. It is fresh! I got the red pepper, mozzarella, and basil ravioli's, rosemary pappardelle pasta, puttenesca sauce, and turkey bolognese sauce. Everything tasted amazing and delicious! The ladies at the front desk were also very, very friendly and helpful! They also carry cheeses, olive oil and other flavors of pasta. Read the NYTimes article about this place and have been dying to try it. Made a special trip into the city to get my fill of fresh pasta. I loaded up on radiatore, tortellini, sausage, and their meatballs and a big hunk of spinach lasagne. I bought a ton of other Italian specialties that are hard to find. I devoured the lasagna and meatballs last night and tonight. The lasagna was spectacular. It was light and perfectly seasoned and I wish I had more of it. I'm wary of prepared lasagna as it can be overly cheesy and gummy. This piece was heaven. The meatballs were very good too. As an Italian, I give this an A rating. I was brought here by a great Groupon. For 15 I got: 2 house-made sauces ( I picked pink sauce & white clam sauce). A pound of tortelloni or torellini (I got one bag of cheese, and one meat). Besides the groupon, we also bought meatballs (quite good) and chocolate noodle pudding (very good, fun). I think that when I'm planning dinner parties I'm going to save myself a lot of time and come in here for the pasta and sauces. To celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph's Day (Mar 19) which fell on a Saturday this year, we wanted to do something extra special in preparing the meal. Making a special entree seemed the most appropriate. Andrew Raffetto donated 40 lbs of freshly made spinach lasagna pasta sheets to St. Joseph's Soup Kitchen. Our volunteers and our homeless customers were very pleased with the freshness and taste of the lasagna. We served 433 meals--we actually ran out of food! We're so thankful to Raffetto's for helping us do something special for the homeless (serving the needy is a St. Joseph's day tradition) and we highly recommend Raffetto's. read more

Lobster ravioli - 5/5, the jumbo ones are full of lobster meat and incredibly delicious! Saffron was great, squid ink was flavorful, look forward to trying spinach and tomato! Sauces - 4/5 - I use it as a base vs. ready made pasta, it is a fantastic starter but always needs more (clam sauce needs cheese/salt otherwise a bit bland, same as red and pink). I grabbed the pale looking lasagna from the prepared section, expecting something mediocre, but a couple of microwaved minutes later, the lasagna was absolutely vibrant and lovely. (That must've been how Prince Charming felt when Snow White awakened after his epic kiss.) The lasagna has the perfect ratio of noodles and filling, tangy tomato, savory sausage and pancetta flavor, and soft, melty, beautiful cheese. It's a touch oily, but I don't really see it, since my eyes are too busy rolling to the back of my head. I love this lasagna. You could make four frugal meals out of this, or two super hearty ones, or just one monstrous feast (you go, girl!). I've tried the mini pumpkin ravioli. Not a fan. The black squid ink pasta was outstanding with their 'pink sauce' as was the lobster ravioli with real lobster you can see stuffed inside. Sarah helped me with choosing the pink sauce for the ravioli and kept my items in the fridge in the back until I came back after work(because I work with really inconsiderate vultures who will steal anything left in the community fridge). All the women behind the counter were fantastic. A couple of people came on the last day when many items were sold out so what do they do?
