    Blackened Catfish + Spanish Paella

Last evening, we dined here early about 530 to 630 pm. It was around 70° so we ate outside, which was a great place to enjoy the sun setting over the Belmar marina. We brought our own wine. Can't beat BYOBs - you save so much money. We skipped the appetizers, though by the descriptions, the selections seemed inviting. Anyway, it was probably better not to fill up on an appetizer because I had the huge Spanish Paella, which was not simply quantity but quality - all seafood, chicken, etc. very fresh and deliciously prepared. My dining companion had Blackened Catfish, which was also scrumptious. Service was prompt and friendly. We will be back soon.

Went to the Ragin Cajun with a very dear friend of mine and we had a stupendous meal. We ended up here because the original restaurant we wanted to go to that night was no longer accepting reservations (to be fair, we were trying to make a reservation VERY last minute which basically undermines the purpose of restaurant reservations in the first place). I don't live super close to the shore (~35 minutes away) and Ragin Cajun was well worth the trek. The little pre-meal thingy they do is bread rolls with butter and roasted (?) garlic. My friend had the genius idea to make a little sandwich out of these three ingredients plus the clams we ordered as our appetizer -- so yummy. The jambalaya was awesome and the portion was MASSIVE. The blackened catfish was awe-inspiring, easily the star of the meal. The sauce (tartar, I think) they paired with the fish was perfect. The service was excellent -- warm, friendly, and charismatic. The ambiance was cozy and unassuming, really reminded you that this restaurant is inside of a gutted home.

I'm really torn between 2 or 3 stars for this review... my friends and I came on a Friday evening and asked to be seated on the porch (I sat right next to the entrance of the restaurant). They have a screen door that slams shut every time it's opened (unless you're very careful). Even the wait staff were careless.. If you sit inside next to the doors, or on the porch - keep this in mind. I'm regards to the actual meal, we got mac and cheese w/ lobster, coconut shrimp, and asparagus for appetizers. For mains, we got the jambalaya (seafood), Etouffee (steak and shrimp), blackened shrimp and pasta. This is where I'm torn - everything was okay. Nothing amazed us but there were some highlights. The scallops and shrimps on the blackened shrimp and pasta were really good, the pasta was eh though. The Etoufee was unique but nothing to brag about & the beef was way over done. The jambalaya had a kick to it and mussels were pretty good. Why I'm doing a 2 star review and not a 3 is that my friends and I have a strong intuition there's a lot of imitation seafood used & not specified. For example, the lobster on the Mac & cheese w/ lobster had lots of lobster pieces that are most likely imitation meat. For a seafood restaurant to serve low quality seafood or even imitation meat, we were pretty disappointed and felt cheated by the end of the meal.

Definitely not Creole cooking.. I ordered Blackened Chicken Bites ... full of grease and no seasoning... also had the red beans and rice which is soggy rice and a can of kidney beans... very disappointed

Friendly service but mediocre food quality. I wouldn't recommend going here, but it's not bad.

Food is ok but if you planning to sit outside you will be basically right on route 35, which wasn't very appealing to me.

Huge portions and many options if you don't eat meat. Ambience is very quaint and BYOB. Great spot.

They were barely half full and the noise was not extremely loud. I had the New England clam chowder and as usual it was a great start to the meal. Plenty of clams and potatos in a creamy white sauce. To start the meal they also provided bread sticks with sesame seeds which is a real nice alternative to dinner rolls. With the sticks they also providing a dipping sauce that really tasted great. This the only place I can remember having breadsticks during dinner and loved it. For dinner I had stuffed flounder with rice and vegetables. The fish was prepared real well and came with plenty of crabmeat and stuffing. Inside it was real moist and tasted great. Along with that was rice and mixed vegetables. In the restaraunt the vegetables were a bit harder then I would prefer but when I reheated the meal at home they were perfect. But if you you are an al dente vegetable they would be fine for you. My wife picked something off the specials of the day. Shrimp, Mahi, broccoli, mushrooms, pine nuts all over rice. She felt this was a great meal and would definitely get it again. It was a nice blend of a bunch of tastes and textures, and the pine nuts are always a great addition to a meal. With less people to deal with the service was right on point, with several returns to our table to make sure everything was well. I feel you will always have a great meal here. But at times there will be a wait to get a table and it will be a bit loud... But in my mind you will always walk out smiling

Almost every night there is entertainment which is the draw for us. Big selection of brews on tap as well as bottles. Really good wings and if you like a barbecue sauce their Dr. Pepper is a sweet version. Nachos is a good share. A little disappointed that they changed their pirogies to just a potato/cheese served with onions and sour cream, they used to have 3diffent versions which you can add kielbasa to. Still good though. The patio is covered on top and can be covered on the sides to stay open during chillier weather. There is a lot of seating and TV's to watch the game. We love that the garage doors open up, so you feel like you are part of the main restaurant. This is great for listening to live music, which is featured almost every night. We enjoyed a couple of drinks at this neighborhood restaurant and they had at least 6 local breweries on tap and a bunch more selections in bottles and cans. There is also wine, cocktails, and a full bar. An American food menu features salads, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, steaks, and more. Next time we visit, we are trying their soft pretzel. Happy Hour is Monday-Friday 11:30am-4:00pm. $3 domestic drafts, $5 house wines, $5 well drinks, and buy 1 get 1 half off appetizers. The staff is very friendly and shout out to our server, Gianna, for being so sweet.
