My family is not afraid to share so we sampled a lit bit of everything. My chilean sea bass had a nice light broth - not too heavy but if you want something hearty, it will leave you wanting more. Filet mignon and lobster tails were fab - juicy, fresh, good flavor. The mashed potatoes and mac and cheese were my favorite sides - both creamy and filling. The desserts are MASSIVE. Came here for a birthday dinner, it was delicious!! Only outdoor seating at the moment but they made it really comfortable and a bunch of fans so the heat wasn't an issue. The seafood tower was pricey but amazing. Perfect app to not get stuffed and still hungry enough for your main entree. The seafood was fresh and high quality. My main entree was filet mignon and that was also great. They had roasted garlic on the side and that was a perfect touch. Something to note, the desserts are great but huge. The place was not bad, the service and waitress were good, however the valet company that Rails employs is less than responsible., Chris the owner of the valet company took a month to get back after several phone calls..Was at Rails on 8-19-23 for a friends birthday celebration and valet my vehicle sometime around 11:00pm i left and asked for my vehicle and went home and parked in my driveway. The next morning I notice a dent in the rear bumper of my vehicle which I immediately called Rails and explained what had happen, I did get the run around, a month later I finally spoke with Chris promised to review the video, he acknowledges seeing my vehicle come in and leaving, but did not take responsibility for the damage that his valet kids did.. which till today I cannot understand how they hit the bumper because the vehicle has rear view camera and as you get close to an object it beeps constantly. Gave this place another try in the past few months and it's worse than ever. I got sick from my meal. Had the tuna tartare and was sick for days. No longer serving lunch and no valet parking.. with all the time on their hands you would think the place would perfect their food and menu. Originally had reservations with the Capital Grille in Paramus. CG is a personal favorite, but when some close friends and family recommended rails so highly I decided to swap out my reservation for the night. I have some customers in the area so I would often drive by, to put it plainly it is just a cool looking little spot. Went with the girlfriend and got in around 6-7 on a weekday night. We were seated quickly and ordered some drinks. We ordered 3 sides (lobster mashed, Brussel sprouts, and truffle fries). All great although I was not a fan of the cranberries with the sprouts. I had done some research and decided that I would not go with my usual filet order, but with the short rib in its place. The short rib itself was amazing, but the risotto cake it sat on left a lot to be desired. It was extremely tough and the flavor seemed off. Girlfriend got the espresso rubbed strip. She likes her steak medium rare, I'm a medium well guy so I did not get a chance to take a shot at it. She said it was excellent and struggled to finish the large portion. The real star of the night was the GIGANTIC slice of carrot cake. My brother raved about it so I had to try it. Problem was we were extremely full so I ordered a slice to go. I was shocked when I lifted the bag on our way out, I was convinced they made a mistake and bagged our leftovers as well. Threw the cake in the fridge that night and forgot about it as I headed off to work the following day. When I got home I laid eyes upon the mammoth slice and busted out a spoon to give it a shot. Wow, just wow it not only met my expectations but far succeeded them. I have never been a huge fan of cream cheese frosting but it was done so well that I didn't think twice. It's not a place to go on a regular basis. Returned a week later for specials that were on there site. Got there with 4 people . Waitress said they were out of lobsters and can't honor specials. Manager came over to apologize. Did not even say I can offer you something else. We ended up ordering stuff we did not want. Tipped 20% and did not order any extras. Very disappointed. We ordered the short rib ravioli in truffle cream sauce - delish, kids' petit filet mignon - they ate it ALL, scallops, crab cakes, loaded potato, T-bone steak - all to die for! I ironically made a reservation for June 27 (anniversary) as a joke at the beginning of quarantine (March) because it was so hard to get a reservation before lockdown .. we ended up never canceling. It was my second time coming to Rails and it's still great for outdoor dining! We sat right under fan (not in the parking lot) so we never got hot and the food was great. Never waited long -- didn't even wait for our table to be ready. It was my boyfriend's first time and called it his new favorite steakhouse on the east Coast. So this was actually my third time dining at rails but first as a date night with my boyfriend. The others were with a large bday party and then for a baby's first bday so didn't feel fair to rate until now. Anyway I made reservations two weeks in advance but they were for a Saturday night so I should have realized something may be up that I got a 7:45. Well we get there and we have this little tiny two person high top table stuck on the side right over the bar downstairs. The whole time we thought we were going to drop something on the bar below. I think the restaurant should let you know when u are booking and spending $100 a person for a meal that they are giving you a high top tiny table on the side. Anyway I digress, overall the ambience here I think is the main draw to this place. It's a very large beautiful space. Would give 5 stars if only based on that. As for the service I would say it's spotty. Our waiter was nice but he forgot to tell us the specials until we asked. Also I had a dirty wine glass and he told the bartender. I saw her roll her eyes since we were right there. I'm sorry but this place is expensive and I'm not keeping a glass that has lint and maybe soap or something in it. As for the food we had the burrata appetizer and it was good. For dinner I had the braised short ribs and my boyfriend had a whiskey glazed steak special. We both thought they were good and cooked to our liking. We shard the double baked potato, sautéd spinach and short rib Mac and cheese. All were just ok. For dessert we had the half baked brownie and a scoop of gelato. It was really overly sweet. Can I just say, wow. We were referred to this place by another local elite and I can't say enough. The place is GORGEOUS and was a great way to top our night. Three floors and the place looks like a log cabin, great food and a nice atmosphere. We sat outside and were taken care of by John, the bartender. He directed us to try the specials but didn't persuade us to order the filet mignon. The filet mignon was perfectly cooked and we liked that we can taste the meat not like some steakhouses were they sear & burn the outside. I'm not a fan of that. Mashed potatoes were just my only negative, little too bland and needed to be hotter. We added the roasted garlic they gave us for the steak and that helped. It was as my husband said "delicious". John smiled the entire time we were there, he was happy to have us and gave us a great experience even giving us a personal tour of the location. We Loved the cave downstairs! For me, when you visit a place and the servers & bartenders are happy that can make a restaurant. We were invited to go to a birthday dinner there. While the food and atmosphere was pleasant we got charged for the whole bill. We split the bill between 3 couple, however we got charged for the full amount. We have called several times, have spoken to several "managers" and this still has not been taken care of. We went there on the 3rd of August for birthday dinner, called with the problem of the charge on the 7th of August, we left a message for the manager who never called. Called again on August 10th spoke to "Donna" who said she would review and get back to us, she said this happens often because of the way the waitress closed the bill at the end of the night. It is now the 18th and we had to go there to physically to speak to someone. Spoke to Pat who said she would call us by 5 pm. It is now 7pm and there is no call or text from anyone. This is getting tiring!! For a high end place as they like to think they are...this is very unprofessional. However truffle fries missed the mark, I tasted no truffle oil at all. My man Soft She'll Crab tempura style got High mark. It came 2 pc on plate with arugula salad. The food left me speechless. They actually age and butcher their steaks in house and the difference in quality comparing to other restaurants is noticeable. I can't find anything to critique when it comes to the food. The valet was complimentary (but we still tipped of course) and very efficient. I was a bit disappointed with the drinks. Rhubarb martini was irresponsibly strong. I had half of it and my chest and face were flushed red from how much alcohol was in the drink (this could be unique to me though as I'm a lightweight). For main entrees I got the cola infused ribeye which was unbelievable! Extremely juicy and tender. On to the desert.... butter cake, carrot cake (7 layers), lemon squares, pineapple cake- all were unbelievable! I've been here a handful of times for lunch/dinner and am yet to be disappointed. Whether it's for a special occasion or just a night out with friends, Rails is the place to go. From appetizers to dessert, I've never had a dish I didn't like. Everything is fresh and prepared with care. My steaks have been cooked perfectly every time, and they have a great wine list/awesome cocktails to compliment your meal! I try to try something new every time I come, and so far the only things I wouldn't repeat are the kale and cauliflower sides, just because they have so many better options. Vallet parking is complimentary and you can text them so your car will be ready by the time you come out. Atmosphere is unique and fitting. Rustic chic with a twist of 1930's glamour, that's my impression of Rails Steakhouse. It has three floors of diverse dining experiences with a 1930's Speakeasy, an upstairs fireplace and a warm friendly lounge atmosphere with tables and chairs with a backing. Choose your fantasy and let fantasy set you free. The formal dining room is on the main floor while the Speakeasy is downstairs. Yeah, there is a dress code mounted outside. No baseball caps, sportswear, tank tops or torn clothing. I am not sure about Meghan Markle torn jeans. Basically, it's dressy casual or if your in the mood once every decade, formal attire. There is valet parking which is not entirely necessary due to the fact the parking areas are adjacent to the restaurant. If you can't park your car maybe you should surrender your drivers license at your local DMV. It's the kind of atmosphere that most dates will be impressed with. I love shallow women. I did not have an appetizer but would have enjoyed a bottle of wine if the markup was not so high. My main course was the Cowboy Steak. I like my steak medium rare and it was cooked just right. Nothing fancy just salt and pepper. It was 20 ounces and $39 or $2.00 a bite. Personally I have had 20 ounce steaks for a lot less and they were just as good. The butter cake was delicious with a shell that was flaky with a warm center. We went here after hearing about it often from friends over the last year. It was tough to make a reservation, so I definitely recommend that you plan ahead to visit. We very much enjoyed our filets and the blue cheese potatoes were great. Not big fans of their creamed spinach or bread. Having their amazing carrot cake for dessert was a great choice and definitely one of the best we have ever eaten. The price was GREAT! Not usually something you would imagine for an upscale steakhouse, but it was significantly cheaper than our go to Roots. Where they fell short was with service, it was really sub par.
